I've had a couple of quotes for the work needed, some were cheaper but received without even coming to have a look at the property. I did feel Energize Electrical had a better expertise and services to install my EV charger. They sent an engineer to have a look at things and find the best way to get cables through and give me an accurate quote. Then, on the day they came to do the work and did a great job. They really care about their customer experience. I would use them again.

Absolutely first class experience from a superb company: with excellent communication by the office team and a very thorough survey and outstanding workmanship by the team on the ground, Loft Boarding Scotland went above and beyond and did a fantastic job. We wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who wants high quality work with peace of mind carried out in their home. Our loft was not the easiest one to work with but the team dealt with it expertly and patiently. We had our loft fully floored with a custom made hatch and aluminium ladder installed along with LED lighting. The team were the tidiest tradespeople we have come across and and every single member of the company we spoke to was friendly, courteous and informative. Already one of our neighbours has approached them about an installation. We are delighted with our new flooring and all the space we now have. We recently had seven windows replaced by Mark Smith Glazing. This is our third time using them. The team installing the windows were fantastic and the customer service is always very friendly. We are very happy with the windows. There was a very slight issue with the hinge on one of the windows and a replacement part was quickly organised and fitted without any question. A really excellent piece of craftsmanship. The front courtyard required a number of masonry repairs, and the stonework now looks as good as new - or at least as good as 1832, when the house was built! Wonderful hand dressing of the stonework and very careful lime mortar application have both improved the look of the courtyard and very much reduced the likelihood of any ingress of damp. Heritage Masonry are a very friendly and expert firm, and I would not hesitate to recommend them again.

I have now been in the property a number of weeks so i gave the guys at Aspen Joinery and Glazing who were very professional and helpful with all the different choices. I would highly recommend them. An before you go paying through the nose from your builder please give these guys a call. I promise you they wont let you down.

We moved into a new house just before the pandemic and it turned out the entire roof, and skylight, quickly needed replacing. Compass came to do the emergency patch before the first lockdown, and had to stop work, but we were impressed the patch lasted six months without re-leaking. And though Compass were limited in what they were allowed to do, they came to do another emergency patch after the storms. After everything the skylight has been replaced and it is more modern, double glazed and leta in light beautifully. the hall is filled with light and it looks beautiful. The roof is also watertight and has been replaced with great car, especially impressed as its a conservation area. The work is top quality and the customer service, at such a stressful time, was remarkable. Thanks especially to Scott who had us constantly updated!

Company - Garage Door and Gate. Spent a long time researching garage door companies in Edinburgh to replace our old and worn garage door. Had 3 quotes from different companies as recommended. 2 stood out offering basically the same product, so opted for the (significantly) cheaper price. Colin from Garage Door and Gate, turned up to quote and fit, when he said on time, was smart, knowledgeable and highly professional. Advice and guidance offered by Colin was spot on, honest, fair and reasonable. Emailed quote arrived on time and Colin was happy to answer lots of questions, patiently and professionally. 2nd site visit to confirm final dimensions - excellent! On the day Colin and his team fitted the garage door, again on time and by mutual agreement, they arrived with all materials and equipment necessary. It was clear they were highly competent from the moment they began removing the old door, protecting my property, the garage and surrounding area as they worked. The new install went like a dream and they work calmly, methodically and professionally at all times, with no fuss. They were happy to answer even more questions as they worked. Left me with a beautiful garage door as promised, cleared away all the rubbish (leaving it spotless) and I even paid by credit card - so double protection - if it were ever needed! Lumen installed some new electric heaters for me last year, and I was very happy with their work then. So when I had a small list of electrical problems to deal with as 2020 arrived, it felt like a no brainer to ask them to come and sort said problems. Once again, they've fixed the problems promptly and efficiently. Craig arrived as expected and set about fixing my electrical sockets, wiring in some new ceiling lampshades, fixing the bathroom ceiling light, and doing a few other small fixes. He was friendly and tidy, and dealt with all the issues on the list perfectly. Andrew was, as always, quick and polite in responding to emails to arrange the visit. I always feel confident that Lumen will be there for me with electric problems, be they emergencies or not. I thoroughly recommend Lumen, and I will continue to use them as my go-to electrical company.

I recently took on the responsibility for organising shared repairs in our block, and I knew nothing of the unique issues involved in common stair lighting in Edinburgh. Keith was really helpful from the start, dealing with my many queries by phone or email. We have used Keith twice now, first to get the lights working as almost all of them had failed, then to replace the timer clock. His prices for this work beat all other estimates by a country mile. I was really impressed when I called him one afternoon, to say I had finally obtained the funds from all the other owners and we would like to go ahead with the repair. This was several weeks after our last contact. He came round first thing next morning and got it all fixed! Also for the second job, we had only limited times available to gain access to the block, he was very flexible about this and again got the job done very quickly. So fantastic, efficient service and great prices too. I highly recommend Keith and we will be using his services again in the future.

Trusted trader is not like Google because they discourage people from posting critical or negative reviews. Although negative reviews can be unfair at times, and sometimes competitors use them to gain advantage, making it difficult to post a negative or critical review undermines the credibility of the Trusted Trader scheme. When I said I wanted to post a review of a company so that others did not experience the same problem that I did, I was told by Trusted Trader's representative "Please be aware also that we have never had a complaint such as this before for this company so if you are leaving a review in order to ‘make others aware’ then I really don’t think this is necessary." I thought the whole point of leaving reviews was to make others aware of your experience. Why wouldn't that principle apply to leaving positive reviews? The representative also emphasised to me that a critical or negative review could have an unduly bad effect on a company's business. I beg to differ. I think that one critical (but fair and factually accurate) review among 200+ uncritical glowing reviews actually makes the scheme look more credible. I am suspicious when there are only positive reviews and I always take critical reviews with a grain of salt. Edinburgh people need a reliable service like the Trusted Trader scheme to avoid being scammed by unscrupulous traders, but I think the Google model is probably a better one overall.

Going on my own experience over the summer of 2019 I would say that I am not entirely convinced by all the traders on this website. I have tried different categories: roofers, joiners, plumbers. The category letting down their colleagues are joiners. A number of trades people simply didn't bother to respond to voicemail or did not phone back when they said they would. At least one has an unobtainable phone number advertised. I understand that people are busy. So am I! But communication is the first measure of 'trust' (this is a Trusted Traders' website isn't it?) and I have to say that I feel let down.
