While my experience of dealing with people at Yell has always been positive and helpful. I am not happy about the way their star rating works. Our business has more than 30 excellent 5 Star reviews but just two less positive reviews giving us a rating of 4.6 stars when there are several companies listed on the same search results with 5 Stars and they only have one review. I believe that the star rating is the first thing that customers are drawn to and the number of reviews is shown in very small print below the star rating.

We have just updated our website which is through Yell. We have had such support and help through our personal account manager Pam. She has spent several hours showing us how to edit and upload new photos to our website but also making a lot of the alterations/changes herself on our behalf. Cannot praise her enough. She is always at the end of the telephone to contact at anytime to discuss anything to do with our Yell Account. This is a new service being offered, that we haven't used before but have found brilliant. Well done Yell.

The company offers a wide range variety of advertising. I awarded just 4 stars, because the sales staff can be more oriented to get money from the customer, not to actually help the customer to improve their business. After a few times trying to sort out my advertising, I was called by my account manager helped me to put the advertising in order and to improve my website quality content. He was amazing. Yell is a good company. We have our moments but basically they are alright. Hopefully things will improve for everyone once the current covid 19 problems ease. I am very pleased with the latest updates to my website giving me a store called TRAXX ONLINE E STORE using the Paypal system. We can update the products in it with ease and hopefully within a few short months will upgrade to a full 1500 item store. However our clients can already get plently of product information both technical and commercial from us already which helps to promote the business which is coming up for 10 years old in JULY 2020 now.

I am happy about the costumer service for now. My only concern is one year contract. Their service is not cheap. I read the comments and it looks like it's the biggest problem with the 'real' costumers. If they change the one year no cancellation policy they wouldn't only have happy customers but they would have more customers because it gives a change to try and shows confidence as a company.
For me I have to wait for a few months to see if it's working or not.

Some poor staff, some very good ones.
I had to contact them recently about the costs of my advertising and the nil return it was generating. After several ping pong like referrals I was eventually put through to the Retentions team where I was very well treated.
A few days ago I needed advice from Yell and ended up being passed from Philipines (I assume) to USA, to probably the surface of Mars for all the good they were, and in the end I said to an operative, "I am far from happy, I need to consider whether or not I want to leave" whereupon the female operative said, "Thats up to you, goodbye", and hung up.
I rang retentions again, spoke to a male, who was very good, patient, listened and advised and then sorted my problem on the spot.
Yell, get your staff to adopt this attitude, excellent service from 2 individuals, useless from the rest.

Very mixed experience. I worked at Yell for many years. They *could* be great. They have some awesome people. Most of the people I met there were great and a lot of them had amazing skills. But the reason everyone ultimately moves on, and the reason they have such a bad reputation, is that despite constant u-turns they never seem to be going in the right direction. Obviously I won't go into details because that would be unfair, but the decision making at the top is belief-beggaringly bad. So much resource wasted on an outdated, rogue sales force who lie, bully and intimidate (I remember when one of the particularly bad charlatans was awarded for his failure and the amazement we all felt). They get potentially good ideas and then their ego gets in the way and they implement them in the worst conceivable way. Trust me, if you're one of the business owners raging here, I feel you. Just be aware that most of the actual skilled people there feel the same, even down to the poor person who has to respond to these reviews. To Yell I would say: you have the people, and if you just used them right your systems would be fine for the task. Replace the people in charge with actual leaders and you could still be great. But do it fast.
Edit: To be fair to Yell, a good portion of the customers were... not entirely professional individuals.

With most online advertising when you go live there is an upsurge of traffic and I get quite a lot of calls. After awhile the calls drop because website isn't being updated. When this happens why not put in a minimum number if in the month that amount of enquiries hasn't reached it then flags up to customer another personnel review to change things to lift us back up rankings again. Apart from this all is going well.

Matt at yell was great, not only did he clarify which of yells services would suit us best, they have generated us a great new website and always shown a professional service. As slightly surprised that there are 1 or 2 not so good reviews on here, as we have found quite the opposite. We have many calls each week from companies over the world wanting and stating how they can get us Great SEO coverage. The 1st page story. 99% of these have never even looked at our website or even seen the stats. We know this because we have done a lot of our own SEO in the past and have a 1st page ranking. (an all the others start the conversation with, how they can get us first page, blah blah, bull, bull, bull,) Yell never did that, they had the stats, they knew exactly how we ranked, and only offered a service that could improve on the good positioning we had, and revise our website and SEO to make good, even better. No hard sell, no bull, no blah,blah, just good honest professional experience.
