Reviews of Labour and Wait
J. S.
A LOT of pretty little things are there. Every products are so nice, and staffs are friendly as well. I got few items there and they are my favourite ever.
S. F.
Great shop for home and gifts. Really nice selection of items with a bouji handmade feel.
S. S.
Have only ordered twice through the website - but will definitely be ordering again in the future! I had a problem with the second order (this week) and the level and speed of customer service has been very impressive. Name check for William who sorted out the problem for me. Would definitely recommend to prospective purchasers.
B. A.
Very interesting shop with lots to see. They have the original Brown Betty teapot (new edition), which unlike its imitations uses red clay. I will definitely return. Also their wrapping service is spot-on. Precision folding, that :)
T. C.
Such a lovely shop! Assistants were really friendly and helpful too.

Nothing better. I am in London every year the second week of December and Labour and Wait is a must stop. The smartest, most thoughtful utilities, trinkets and items you didn't know you really needed. Until you wanted them so badly you left with them.
P. D.
One of my favourite stores.

This is a fantastic home supply shop featuring traditional / old school supplies. The shop is cozy and spares no details in creating an authentic environment for selling a unique variety of cleaning supplies and other unique trinkets. Highly recommended for anybody who cares about the supplies they use when taking care of their home.

I absolutely love my new coffee maker and jars I got from this place. I had an idea of adding some vintage charm to my newly renovated kitchen and am I glad I found this place. So many beautiful details, took me ages to settle on something to buy. I will definitely be coming back for more unique pieces to adorn the house with. It is also a great place for gift ideas.

I've followed the online inventory of this store for a year or two.
I'm a big fan of functional products and generally keep my abode as minimal as possible.
Great for gifts, great for a home. I picked up so many items I could have bought for different occasions and people.
From the outside it's one of the best looking stores around.
J. V.
Charming home goods store selling a well curated selection of useful (and sometimes a tad indulgent) objects from around the world. Plenty of thoughtfully designed items from Japan mixed in with some traditional British brands. Plenty of enamel and wood give the place an eco/earthy vibe with muted natural colours the overriding palate. It's a great place to pick up a 'functional' gift for the minimalist/traditionalist design lover in your life. If you can't make it to the store they have everything here and a little more online.
Z. P.
Full of beautiful practical things you need (clipboards, boxes of chalk, combs) and lots of beautiful practical things you don't really need but still kind of want anyway (jam pots and fancy looking bulbs). The exterior of the shop, with its glorious deep green tiles and retro font, makes you feel like you're stepping back in time somehow. Be warned though, this shop will dent your wallet!
R. C.
A brilliant selection of household goods, personal goods, clothes and gardening things. It is one of my favourite shops and the online shop is really good and efficient.
j. b.
Robust, functional and durable retro-styled household goods, gadgets and bits 'n bobs.
Here you find the toilet brush or dustbin that will probably outlast you.
Commendable quality and maxed-out stylishness for the cognoscenti of household things.
Where shopping is...a feeling.
K. G.
Oh gosh, what a lovely place! I kinda hate myself for liking this place, because it's a typically hip Shoreditch homeware store, but it's so full of wonderful bits and bobs. From gorgeous old-school bottles to useful sewing kits and minimalist stationery, there's so many things in here which should take you years of trailing round car boot sales to find — but they're all here waiting for you to buy them instead!
D. N.
This is a great store for essentials of the home. I love the classic design principles - it's very difficult to find items like this. The store echoes time gone by but in a very modern way. If in the area, pop in - you'll buy something for sure.
V. S.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I wanted to tell you how marvellous your online service was. Quick and easy to use and I received the product the next day, and I didn't order until Friday afternoon. Packaged perfectly it arrived in perfect order. Excellent service without a doubt. I look forward to ordering again, you have some fantastic products.
K. D.
Great shop curated with stuff that you know will last and can depend on. Mostly garden equipment, but not short on homewares that look great and serves simple purposes. This shop breathes quality through each and every item.
L. G. B.
Adorable. Quaint. Over priced but oh so worth the experience. Watching the shop keeper wrap my purchases into a beautifully considered parcel is the highlight of my visits - even though it causes a bit of anxiety and forces me to take note of a bygone era.
K. C.
I will always love this shop. The styling outside is first rate as are the products inside. Good quality products that will last at not bad a price. I just want to buy everything.
H. L.
Loved it brilliant shop!
J. A.
I love this shop! It has an awesomely curated collection of goods for the home. Lots of wonderful enamelware, tools for the kitchen, blankets, textiles, and more.
c. r.
Super customer service! Delighted with my purchase. Staff super friendly over the phone and assisted me wonderfully! Thank you so much!
J. A.
Gorgeous curated shop. Helpful knowledgable staff and really interesting selection of goods. Always find something to treat myself to!

The name of this shop is taken from the last line of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem 'A Psalm of Life':
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait.
And that pretty much sums up their whole attitude to selling things that won’t go out of fashion. Labour and Wait specialises in timeless homewares, traditional and simple, right down to the enamel lampshades and unbleached cotton oven gloves. But rest assured, the shop comes with all the mod cons of an East London establishment like being served by a gentleman with a well-kept moustache.
Tired of buying cheap disposable items destined for the garbage after only a few uses, the owners decided to compile and sell everything you need for your home – useful things that will last, probably outlasting you. So cast aside those B&Q household items that won’t last longer than a fizzy cola bottle in a fat kid's mouth. And stock up on the real stuff, everyday classics that aren’t retro or nostalgic but just sustainable and honest.
With a cool calm atmosphere and shelves stacked with an art gallery minimalist aesthetic, from enamel coffee pots and bread tins to horsehair brooms, linen dishtowels and old-fashioned school notebooks you can come back time and again, safe in the knowledge that you will always find what you saw last time you were there. Bear in mind though that it's only open Saturdays and Sundays (and on Fridays by appointment) so you might just have to do exactly as the shop's name suggests.
A. S.
Labour and Wait sell traditional bits and bobs for the home at fairly reasonable prices. Expect enamel milk saucepans, elaborate watering cans, brown paper labels, aluminium dustpans and more in an attractive, dinky shop. Obviously don't expect to go and find a bargain. Labour and Wait may not be over-priced, but it isn't cheap. And the retro tweeness does get a bit tiresome at times (who needs a rotary apple peeler or iron nutcracker in 2011?). But I can't deny that they sell some very attractive pieces - I'm still dreaming of the mint green enamel milk pan.

An amazing shop to find thing that you might or might not need. They specialise in stuff for the kitchen, but there's a ton of other stuff to look at too. Definitely worth a visit even if you don't have anything in mind.
S. H.
I have nothing but praise for L&W. I made a purchase over the phone as I live outside of London and am unable to recall ever having such friendly and helpful service.
Thank you very much indeed!
J. P.
Fantastic collection and service. We went in twice on the same day! Can't wait to go back. Reasonable prices too in a sea of overpriced homeware stores.
R. C.

(Translated) Housewares made of plastic will be looked for in vain in this shop, instead there are such wonderful things as enamel teapots, brushes made of wood and natural fibers, glass jugs or a duster made of genuine ostrich feathers to acquire.
The store is very nicely decorated. You can quickly forget the time while browsing and feel transported back into grandmother's kitchen.
At the latest at the box office you will be overtaken by reality again. For my feeling a bit overpriced.

(Translated) I wanted to buy a lot of things, especially the dishes in email which is very beautiful. I found very cool items including a reissue of an old cookbook for the poor. Otherwise it's not given, too.

J'ai eu envie d'acheter pas mal de choses, notamment la vaisselle en email qui est très belle. J'y ai trouvé des objets très cool notamment une réédition d'un vieux livre de recettes pour les classes pauvres. Sinon c'est pas donné, aussi.
