I was apprehensive about being colour matched for a new foundation and concealer. I was drawn to the Bobbi Brown counter from reviews of the brand, and the lady there did not disappoint! My skin tone is notoriously hard to match, and she made me feel comfortable, found a perfect product formula for my skin AND colour matched me in about 5 mins! highly recommend for staff friendliness and knowledge on cosmetics/skin care!

We had lunch in the ground floor cafe. It was table service and the servers were polite and friendly without being overbearing. The food was delicious, very well presented and the prices were good value for what we had.

Not a bad store. Plenty of choice, nice products from shoes to settees. Food ok in cafe. Only let download - toilets! Decor dated & needs replacing. 4 toilets - 1 door doesn't close, 1 door doesn't lock. Loose tiles. Looks tatty.

On a weekend visit to York, went into Browns. Wanted an eyeliner pencil so went to the Estée Lauder stall. Dealt with an amazing lady called Sandra. She gave me and my sister loads of make up tips, applied products and we came away very happy with our purchases. Recommend Sandra to anyone looking for help with make up.

Nice store was looking at handbags the assistant was pleasant but little too enthusiastic as I wanted to have a browse not be given detail on every bag I was looking at she probably thought she was doing a good job but I like to be left alone to browse and if I need help il ask for it.

The staff of both the York and Gainsborough branch have gone out of their way to help me and my partner find the perfect outfits for a wedding. Nice variety of concessions and a good selection of clothing in each. Certainly gives John Lewis and Fenwicks a run for their money. Also make a morning of it and eat in the restaurant, which is a lovely treat (York)

exemplary service. I have recently purchased a mattress from Browns of York. There was plenty of choice in store with friendly helpful staff. On ordering, I was expecting a delivery time of many weeks. Browns has the mattress available within a few days. They offered free delivery and turned up half an hour earlier than scheduled. As a department store, it's great, but the experience in the cafe was dire. I popped in for a quick coffee and a sandwich, the coffee came, drank and 40mins later still no sandwich! One poor lady who ordered coffee and a tea cake long before me, got her Coffee and no tea cake. I spoke to staff member and left. Couldn't wait any longer!!

Loads of interesting items but sadly some of them don't fit someone like me. But that's usually the case with the ready made suits, blazers and trousers. Browns Tea Room came to the rescue today after we were let down by Patisserie Valerie where we had booked for afternoon tea for a hen do. Unfortunately on arrival Pat Val turned us away due to being short staffed, so we ended up at Browns. We were really well looked after by the team who quickly rearranged some tables to accommodate our group of 7. The food was lovely, very fresh, plentiful and excellent value for money! Most importantly the bride to be had a lovely time. Thank you so much to Matteus and the team for saving the day!

Friendly staff. Nice selection of things but they forgot to remove the security tag off the wallet I bought. Their alarm didn't set off when I left so I only realized when I arrived in the hotel. Well regarded old fashioned department store. It can be a bit hit or miss on the service front some staff seem dismissive if you ask for something that's not in thier department however this is balanced by other staff who are really knowledgeable in their product area. Good range of products and while not the cheapest place to shop in York its competitive with similar shops.

Always been a Fenwick's guy, until Saturday when I went for something that had sold out, I was told if we are sold out here everywhere else will be, I even asked where else I could go. No idea . Sales was praying for me to say ok, do you have anything else..... I went to Browns, had what I wanted, had a browse round, bought a couple more bits, was having a good laugh with the sales staff. I would go back, in fact I will go back no doubt about it.

The Bobbi Brown staff went above and beyond and spoke to my 9 year old as an grown up and made her fell extra special. By far the best Latte my partner has had. There scones are by far the best too. This beautiful cafe was recommended to us by family. It boasts a lovely menu and the smells surrounding us are delightful. Tea and a scone is £4.25 and is certainly worth the money! It's a lovely little place to sit and enjoy a tea and watch the world go by.
