Reviews of Aberystwyth Arts Centre
F. S.
Love going to see everything I can in the Arts Centre. There's always something for everyone as there's so many spaces inside. A recent highlight was the comedy festival, but I also love the cosy atmosphere in the cinema! If you're ever bored in Aber, one of the best things you can do is check their website to see what's on!
L. M.
Came to see Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and was so impressed by every member of staff - cheerful, friendly and super professional!
Venue was clean and well organised. Enjoyed every aspect of my visit 😁😁
H. C.
Our Son & Daughter really loved your Pottery Workshop yesterday 😀! We will definitely bring them back another time. I am only leaving one star off because the University is very short on Parking that isn't for Students or Staff; (there are Parking Company Signs pretty much everywhere that say permit holders only).
I appreciate that this is beyond the usual responsibilities of the Arts Centre, however I would strongly suggest that if Arts Centre Staff can relay my message onto the appropriate team, that, that would be great please. There needs to be designated Public Parking that's easy to find on site. It must be specifically for site visitors.

Great venue. Always able to find something interesting to see and do here. Nice bar area with pleasant outlook. Many memorable evenings spent here with friends.
S. C.
Really understaffed and struggling on the first day of uni. If you are patient though, the pastries are fab and the hot chocolate to die for.
M. C.
I really lovely place very unique looking everything was great apart from the vegan sandwich was a bit dry like it had been there for a few days coffees are really good and a good price for the quality I'll be going back for another show 😀
a. h.
Excellent West Wales venue for comedy, attracting some big acts that we'd normally expect to travel to Swansea/Cardiff to see.
We'll return as often as possible!
S. C.
We went to the cinema in the art centre. Comfy seats, good audio and picture. Had a drink in the cafe, reasonably priced & friendly staff. Also the bonus of the xmas craft fair to browse.
T.
Always friendly service, beautiful cinema, lovely shop with unique little gifts and a delightful Christmas fayre showcasing local artists of all kinds.
i.
The art centre's good cafe was not doing meals so quick drink, 10 minute drive to Mama Fay's always great Caribbean, quick pork loin jerk and chicken jerk , quick drink, back to arts centre, quick drink live theatre with live audience, albeit about 40 people, can't beat it. Quick drink in interval then second half. Home before midnight , quick drink and bedtime. Perfect day ?
C. N.
Terrific arts centre, with concert hall, theatre and cinema, 2 bards, one serving food and wonderful events. Tonight it was as storytelling festival. Brilliant!
R. J. S.
Nice arts facility for dance, performance, sculpture and painting. A thought provoking collection on display when visited, based on the Salon des Refusés linked to the Eisteddfod event the first week of August 2022 (see upstairs display poster for details). A well stocked gift shop and what looked like an enjoyable eatery.
K.
Great venue with a wide range of events to suit most tastes.
E. H.
Went to watch Sgarmes, and everything was perfect.
No parking problems and no longer queues.
R. T.
Well designed exhibition centre at the heart of the University campus. Overlooks the town and provides some great views of Cardigan Bay.
H. C.
Great venue for music, theatre and film or just some where to sit and have a coffee looking out towards Cardigan Bay. Staff are all super friendly
B. S.
Great little theatre, nice bright and airy bars, friendly staff and plenty of parking.
R. T.
Had a great evening watching James Acaster. Staff were great and were very understanding when my wife requested we move seats as we were sat behind a giant of a man. The security staff put us on the front row 👍🏼 great stuff.
B. L.
My timing was unfortunate in terms of both exhibitions and food availability, but that was no fault of the Arts Centre, just poor research on my part 🤦🏻 a very pleasant visit.
M. J.
This is a great venue, ticket prices are affordable and they do have great concerts. The cinema is small cosy and comfortable.
T. P.
Lovely lively theatre and arts complex with tasty snack in the bar and a great performance of a brilliant new rock musical Operation Julie.
L. H.
Good venue. Not enough bar staff serving at busy times.
G. H.
I visited the Aberystwyth arts centre on a pretty wet day in August. I has a fine view over the bay which must be stunning when the sun is shining. It was an interesting building including changing displays of art work which made you think. It wasn't expensive and service was quick and efficient. The only criticism I have is the echo's that the building generates. It a hard structure without any soft furnishings which deaden or absorb the sounds that buzz around a lively building. It was clean and inviting though.
A. P.
I went to a live music event here and I was upset because it was way too over-loud. The sound engineer couldn't see (hear?) what the problem was, but the manager and security guard (whether I know them or not) were really nice about it and I was provided with hearing protection and allowed to sit upstairs, after I declined the offer of a refund after I had mentioned one. The Great Hall with the seats put away (as they were) becomes quite small, yet the system was turned up to a dangerously high level where hearing protection was required to avoid hearing damage. Worryingly, it seemed everyone else (or so it seemed), because they didn't seem to perceive the situation as a problem and therefore didn't wear hearing protection, quite possibly had their hearing damaged. Why use such dangerously high sound levels that can cause upset, require hearing protection to avoid hearing damage which muffles the sound, and I also question how they are legal? It would make much more sense to use appropriate sound levels. I remember when you used to put "this event uses amplified sound", but the event I went to had more like over-amplified sound. I know it's a problem in many places around the world, but I'm disappointed that it's a thing here. One thing I did notice was that the sound system was smaller than the one in the specification document (which hadn't been updated for five years), and I'm wondering if it was therefore having to work harder, reproducing the sound in a way that was harder on the ears. There are some really nice people working here, but I just don't get the use of dangerously high sound levels, which you lose a star for.
G. D.
Nice theatre with good views of the stage.
Seats could perhaps be a little deeper and softer?
N. R.
Good view in the auditorium. Seats a bit snug for my posterior but ok 👍
g. m.
Went to see Bon Jovi Experience perform in the "Great Hall". Smooth and efficient entrance and seating. A very good performance, by a top tribute band. There is ample free parking, coffee shop, bar, cafe and restaurant facilities en site. The place is spacious , clean, with comfortable seating and hosts many different events, including films too.
W. J.
Aberystwyth Arts centre is a marvellous place to visit the cinema and theatre or attend a concert or comedy show. There is also a cafe with a great view over Aberystwyth and the sea from the elevated position on the Aberystwyth University campus on Penglais, the main North road out of Aberystwyth.
L. B.
Went to the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Plenty of parking spaces there.

It was a great night out, and if Robert Plant is playing in your area go and see hiim, You won't regret it!!!

Lovely staff and a great and comfortable cinema. A great movie going experience.
G. E.
As always a pleasant visit to the Arts Centre which hasn't changed much in 30 years and I like it that way 😀

The Arts Centre on the uni campus is celebrating its 50th year and has an exhibition upstairs, well worth a look.
Offering a variety of classes in dance, arts and stage school to name a few.
Plenty of theatre and performances and a cinema. Check out the what's on guide.
A cafe (cakes, light bites and drinks) I prefer the café food pre covid though.
A theatre bar, shop and box office.
Great friendly helpful staff.
P. J.
A wonderful place with so much going on for everyone to enjoy.
S. H.
A smaller, more intimate venue where you can really feel more connected to the performer.
Very friendly staff.
Reasonably priced bar.
E. T.

G. J.

In the University campus good place to fi d those unusual items and a coffee shop as well

Vibrant arts venue with a varied program of events throughout the year

It was amazing to go and see the panto all the actors and actresses put a lot of effort in to it.It was a great experience i recommend it to anyone who comes to Aberystwyth
K. P.
Excellent day. Graduation 2020 for our youngest daughter. All organised.
S. C.
What a lovely place with so much to see and do - live theatre, cinema and art/photo exhibitions not to mention the great food in the cafe
T. E. (.
Went up to see a play which was fantastic. It was set up so that seats were tiered on all sides and actors performed in the middle and as we were in front row we felt like we were almost part of it - exciting stuff. Ideal venue for it although cafe is a rip off so be careful what you buy and people working there don't seem happy.
T. C.
Lovely work by students and locals. Includes gift shop and cafe. Large indoor and outdoor seating areas.
d. r.
Great, watched an awesome show- Operation Julie. ❤️
S. N.
Great University, brilliant ethos and our daughter loves the town.

B. N.
Easily accessible and good parking. Good coffee and view of the bay
D. W.
This is an excellent place to either just visit or go to a concert, theatre or film. There are lovely gift shops and a fabulous inexpensive eatery serving great hot and cold foods and meals. They host top class artists and stars as well as fabulous plays, films and dance. This is a must place if you are staying in Aberystwyth or near by
N.
What a wonderful place this is, wish I had discovered it sooner. I only got to see it as part of the Uni Open Day, but loved it at first sight.
Really enjoyed the little exhibition space, the cafe is fabulous and you can sit by the window and watch the sea changing colour, while sipping really good strong coffee and eating one of the many scrumptious cakes.
I had a look at the programme and there's so much going on!
The Art Centre shop has a lovely range of gifts, many handmade by local artists.
Definitely recommend visiting it.
A. O.
Interesting selection of modern paintings and sculpture. Bit freaked out by a model of a student /girl in an animal cage in on of he sculpture groups... Cafe was busy so we gave it a miss.
L. F.
The cafe located in the Arts centre has a large variety of lunch food and cakes. Their coffee is very good and the facilities are excellent. The staff were friendly and I will definitely be back for some lunch. There are also a number of shops to browse for some welsh souvenirs.
C. R.
Great venue. The great hall is big enough for the atmoaphere but also small enough to remain personal. The gifts in the shop are outstanding. Some really nice artisan pieces there. Highly recommend
D. S.
Been here 2 years in a row for the music festival. Great variety of events happening throughout the year and has a reasonably priced bar with a fair selection of gins. Overall a lovely venue.
m. j.

b. a.
Good day out to this place as it was for my daughter graduation day.. lovely welcome from staff
G. T.
I attended a funeral gathering in the upstairs bar. Delicious food was laid on. Plenty of room for everyone, the bar serving alcoholic, soft drinks and hot beverages too. Very friendly atmosphere.
L. B.
Always nice to go here for food, the pancakes are delicious, I think I out 10lb on that day, but we'll worth it
P. H.
It's got everything the art lover or cultural lover can want.
Amazing views over the town and sea.
Great cafe and gift shop.
Cinema and Theatre are awesome.
Plus the best bookshop in Wales
F. T.
This theatre is so well laid out that you have a good view of the stage wherever you sit. The sound is consistently good. I visit here often and it's one of my favourite theatres.
E. J.
Great venue! We were there for an outdoor film screening- which was well organised. Good to have a vegan hot dog option! Great gift shop, coffee shop and bar here too.
M. S.
Has some great talent and some surprisingly great, shows. Seen a number of high profile comedians. Lovely cinema and shop, activities for kids and a nice cafe selling a variety of healthy dishes.
J. O.
Went to see Footloose musical. Nice venue, better than the Grand Theatre in Swansea for being able to see the entire show and not have your view restricted regardless of where you sit. Alcohol on the slightly more expensive side but to be expected.
H. H.
Part of the main university site. 3 performance spaces with good acoustics. Parking free in the evening but can be busy if 3 shows are running. Nice modern building, decent bar & cafe for refreshments.
A. l. b. o. e.
open till late, lovely cafe and bar areas with happy hour on weekly and a cafe serving tea and cakes. lovely place to come to if you feel okay with students hustle and bustle. affordable with a lovely view to the sea.
A. B.
Great service very polite staff lovely location
H. E.
A major mid Wales cultural venue. The food is great, good prices with plenty of events going on between the craft gallery and bookshop. There’s an awesome Ceramic gallery with a major collection. Also two galleries that have a busy schedule, haven’t mentioned the many live events the Centre hosts.
J. B.
Went to see Operation Julie- it was fantastic 👏 👌 🙌
E. E.
Great venue. Helpful staff. Loved the concert from the Uproar orchestra.
T. D.
Jack Savoretti concert was awesome
D. B. I.
Beautiful location
S.
Really cool place to do a lot of different stuff. Very relaxed atmosphere. Plenty to see. Good events and movies shown here. There's a bar and cafe, ample seating, toilets and wheelchair access.
K. D.
Constantly at the art centre with the children's courses. It offers such a wide range of activities for children and adults such as ballet, pottery, screen painting and drama.
I enjoy attending the cinema here as it is small and cosy.
There is always wide range of shows on and I have enjoyed many over the years.
The comedy and music nights are aplenty so there really is something for everyone.
Although there is plenty of parking it is often difficult to park due to the lack of space markings in certain areas.
N. W.
Fantastic building, amazing place. Went to the carol service which was very good. Staff very friendly. Could spend an hour or two just looking round! Amazed what is catered for here, ie, theatre, cinema, dance studio, shopping, cafe and much more.
C. L.
Fab helpful friendly staff and great facilities
C.
Just a lovey relaxed environment .
L. D.
Lovely and lively local arts hub with a plethora of things to do. Their website has details of current and future programs of cinema, performance and workshops. The entire site is accessible to those with mobility issues and wheelchair users and they also do cinema screenings for those who find the traditional dark, loud cinema experience stressful. Look out for "relaxed screening" films for those with sensory or cognitive issues that would often be a barrier to participating. 10/10 for their inclusivity work
J.
Nice place to go for coffee, good view out of the large windows. Strange tables though and some parts could do with some renovation, but this is Aberystwyth, so this is cutting edge. Some of the photos attatched to this listing are innaccurate though.
As for the cinema, it seems pretty decent but is small, so get there early when there's a new release.
Occasionally you can catch other entertainment, the hall is fairly underwhelming, but plenty if seating and good quality stuff comes here, for the area.
G. B.
Never felt more welcome, the staff were all so friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and a fantastic 4k cinema experience.
L. P.
We take our children to various activities here, throughout the year supporting local groups and clubs (such as stage school), also we use the excellent cinema and see touring acts, however emphasis is placed on students snd visitors with the upstairs Bar area closed most weekend mornings unless there is a large event on (university open day for example).
This is dissapointing, a place this size should have no trouble catering to the needs of the local population - it is certainly busy enough.
S. G.
Came from Swansea to see Dave Gorman live and he was absolutely brilliant. It's a beautiful building and a great staff. Would recommend watching any show here.
J. M.
We visited the centre to see the musical Annie performed by the centre's junior stage school and providing transport for one of the performers (our granddaughter) had 90 minutes to kill between arriving and showtime. We had a couple of glasses of wine in the bar which has a terrace overlooking a grassed and wooded area. (The pleasure of this was enhanced by the relative rarity of Mediterranean warmth and sunshine in West Wales!). We then had a fairly light but substantial evening meal which wasn't fine dining but very good value and produced by charming and helpful staff.
V. G.
Went to see Oliver with my 5 year old granddaughter they were more than helpful supplying a bumper seat so she could see the whole stage the production fantastic as always looking forward to next year great afternoon out facilities clean and well kept staff really helpful
V. J.
Needs a spring clean but overall it a good place
S. K.

Excellent facility for locals and visitors with so much going on. The theatre and cinema are favourites of mine. Excellent food at the restaurant with stunning views overlooking Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay. Excellent book shop and gift shop too.
H. D.
Brilliant band. Could have done with some Aircon though.
S. T.
Always interesting and varied programme. Comfortable arts Cinema and great exhibitions. Try a class and don't miss the bookshop, stop for a cuppa but the hot food isn't always the best choice of the day.
M. A.
Friendly service. Good variety and so very different to the mainstream of the town. Bookshop there is nicely laid out and child friendly for promotion of reading, and a good variety of board games
J. E.
Lovely place. Nice views. Shop and cafe, toilets, cinema, bookshop, two theatre spaces all excellent. Always find the exhibitions disappointing though.
P. J. (.
Fantastic place to walk around loads of interesting architecture. There some buildings round the back that are shiny space ships. The cinema is cosy, there always is always something worth going there for
C. I.
Excellent we used the electric Charging point, all good then had food over at the arts center. Food and service was great. Lovely to see the local art work as well.
C. C.

M. N.
Decent cafe with good veggie (and other) food. Great view. Good selection of shows by acts from the local area and worldwide.
M. M.
Lovely place. Cinema was lovely and you felt very safe as social distancing is still in place
R. F.
The perfect place for students and familiy. Beautiful view outside and excellent customer service. A lot of worthseeing shows and high quality of serving stuff.
A. A.
Lots of classes, shows and things on for children. The cafe is really expensive and doesn't have much for children
T. P.
Attended a Jack Savoretti concert here. A good venue for loads of different entertainment. Always something happening, worth checking out the website.
M. P.
If you're up on Aberystwyth University campus, the art centre is the best place to get food and drink. The bar offers cheap paninis, whilst the cafe has a large selection of hot food.
G. B.
Great exhibitions, good food and a nice place to hang out.
There is normally at least one photography exhibition and they have a good ceramics collection too.
A. M.
We have had many a nice evening at the Arts Centre , ie :- the food is good, and good shows in the theatres , we went to the cinema to see Yesterday a very good night with a drink in the bar to finish off fantastic
J. B.
Very comfortable theatre. Easy parking close by.
R. O. G.
Very nice shop. Quiet and clean. Very quiet people behind the counter!!
M. S.
The comfiest seats. Oh my buttocks were encapsulated in a red hug of velour. The rest of the stuff is alright too. Many bars. Nice place. But oh the seats. Mmm
P. E.
Good experience, we saw a Fleetwood Mac tribute band
A. M.
Friendly open space with a gift shop and coffee shop. Not a lot of seating around though. Lots of upcoming gigs in the great hall that looked excellent.
R. G.
Very good venue for the arts and local culture. Deacent canteen food and coffee. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean and well maintained public facilities. Top marks all round!
S. B.
Love the Arts Centre in Aberystwyth. There are always different and interesting things to do for young and old. Whatever interests. Lovely cafe too, great food and helpful staff.
K. E.
Always a nice atmosphere in here and the cinema is great. Would recommend.
T. G.
I'm biased as I was involved when it opened in 1972! İt is still a wonderful cultural centre which had gone from strength to strength in the intervening years. İf you are anywhere in the vicinity make sure you pay a visit.
A. F.
Excellent venue, well staffed, all very helpful.
Well recommended....
N. J. H.
The cafe downstairs is nicest. Decent grumpy mule coffee too. Bar at theatre.upstairs is a nice place to unwind also

Great location, really friendly university with lots of Welsh pride. Good choice for the Arts. Good facilities. Graduation went like clockwork.
W. C. (.
The cinema is quite small for Aberyswyth citizen but I found it is treated well by welcoming people. The price of tickets is quite high that's the reason for 3 🌟 given
B. T. P.
Nice place with a couple of cafés on the University campus. A shop to buy local produce and Aberystwyth University brandes memorabilia and a cinema focused on artistic movies
T. M.
An ever changing variety of theatre and music events and films to choose from, many are also in Welsh, great food, craft and book shops, parking and very close to the town of Aberystwyth.
I. T. (.
This is probably one of the best regional arts centres in the UK. A very varied programme in English and Welsh at reasonable prices. Check it out - you may be surprised at what is on offer.
S. M.
I went to see an art exhibition here and was pleasantly surprised at how big and well laid out the space was. I was a lovely exhibition in a lovely building.
T. P.
