Reviews of Peterborough Cathedral
K. B.
First time to Peterborough and visited the Cathedral - the guide we spoke to was incredibly helpful and so passionate about sharing the stories and history with us, she also recommended other places to visit nearby. Well worth a visit! Reminded me of York Minster.
C. D.
A super exhibition, with information brief enough but also informative. Moving displays with good sound effects. A great setting and on a hot day good choice to take young children out of the sun to see "real size dinosaurs ".
J. C.
A beautiful cathedral which encourages people to enjoy the space. Great that contributions rather than an entrance fee are given, allowing everyone to be able to enjoy it. Good information all around.
Staff/volunteers are welcoming and helpful.
m. d.
Beautiful place with amazing architecture. Free entry but I suggest to leave a donation for the up keep of this historical building. Gift shop and toilets inside.
D.
A beautiful and awesome house of prayer. Very peaceful and also a stunning magnificent west front, and some nice stained glass. Well worth a visit.
T. D.
Peterborough cathedral is good and heritage architecture. It looks beautiful at Christmas. I have attended Christmas payers and fell the peace of the place. It conducts multiple events throughout the year. You should visit if you are in Peterborough.
D. W.
A very impressive building, the gentleman who greeted us was very pleasant and took his time explaining where we could go, beautiful stained glass windows, Queen Katherine of Aragons resting place was humble but displayed with respect and dignity.
A. “.
Beautiful, majestic cathedral. I have been here 8 years ago, and beauty is mesmerizing like the first time.
P. S.
A very nice place with a marvellous cathedral. Quite and peaceful with an important historic atmosphere inside. Worth a visit in Peterborough
M. P.
I have never been to Peterborough, did not know it was a city! Very easy parking a short walk (500 MTRS) from the cathedral. The impressive central square of the city has a European feal, looming over the surrounding buildings are the upper elements of the magnificent cathedral. You approach through a super arch, and there it stands in all its medieval glory. No entrance fee, you can make a donation, then just wonder around. A Dinosaur exhibit was being installed the day we visited. Some of these photos are of St John the Baptist church.
J. B.
A beautiful place which seemed less crowded than some other cathedrals. There is no entrance fee, although donations are gratefully received. Be sure to visit the touching memorials to two queens buried here: Catherine of Aragon; and Mary Queen of Scots (whose remains were later moved to Westminster Abbey). There is also a sunny, sheltered cloister on the south side of the cathedral nave which we stumbled on by accident. Well worth making a detour off the A1(M) to see!
C. S.
Such welcoming staff. Very informative history. Must see if you ever visit Peterborough
S. C.
Fantastic visited the tomb of Katherine of Aragon and where Mary Queen of Scots was first laid to rest. Dinosaur exhibition on when we visited. Found the volunteers very helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely be visiting again.
K. G.
Stunning architecture - especially for a building that has its origins 900 yrs ago. Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII's first wife, and Mary Queen of Scots are buried here. Well worth seeing. The brass eagle upon which the Bible is placed during services is over 500 years old!
L. S. T.
I do not use the word awesome in it's current guise of "quite interesting" but as in utterly astonishing. A must visit whether or not you are a regular visitor to churches
M. S.
If you're visiting Peterborough I would highly recommend including this! Lots of very interesting history and some amazing architecture. Staff were pleasant and welcoming. Entry is free but they ask for a donation. Toilets were clean and well equipped. If you like history or architecture it is a must!
O. F.
Amazing cathedral with a lovely walk around museum and display.
Integral part of this city bustling with life and history.
Optional small donation upon entry which is well worth doing ad it's clear to see what the money goes towards.
I have also never quite seen stained glass windows quite like it before; extremely intricate designs from the original build.
Would recommend a visit.
A. P.
Really enjoyed our visit here - the architecture is brilliant to see up close, the attention to detail. The kid loved the depiction of the moon's surface within the cathedral - spent a lot of time pretending they were astronauts.
Then there was also a Tear and Repair area which showcased textiles created by five women and you could add to this in your own way. We spent longer inside than we had intended to - a lovely peaceful place.
S. -. L. S.
What an absolutely beautiful building.
Highly recommended the Guided tour
M. K.
A beautiful piece of architecture, sadly I didn’t get to go inside as a wedding was taking place. I will go again though. It’s always nice to see such an old building kept to a good standard.
G. S.
Visited for the TRex exhibit. Was great, really enjoyed it. Have also been for previous events too like Tim Peake and craft fairs
J. R.
Its an OK city that has suffered like most thanks to C-19, the cathedral is very nice entrance is by donation so don't be a mean so n so.
K. E.
Great architecture and history here. Mary Queen of Scots was buried here originally, but moved to Westminster Abbey in 1612; Katharine Queen of England is still buried here. There is a tour available to visit the 2nd floor at £6/pp, which I find a bit steep in price : don't know if there's any history given in the tour as I did not take it.
H. S.
Visited with children and we all loved it. The staff there were friendly and knowledgeable. We visited while the "lockdown" exibit was showing and it was incredible! Would definitely return!
C. A.
I had recently paid a visit to a wonderful Peterborough Cathedral where the 1st wife of Henry VIII Catherine of Aragon laid to rest. I have admired their stories. I spoke to the staff and I was overwhelmed with her vast historical information she shared with me and my wife. She's a gem at the Cathedral.
J. J.
Went to an evening DOT performance of Pygmalia, in the cloisters. Took our own chairs, picnic (byob). Really fortunate with the weather. Toilet facilities were stretched during the 15 minute interval.
G. M.
Charity concert evening supporting Prostrate Cancer UK. Very enjoyable.
T. M.
Very impressive building. Friendly and helpful volunteers. Well worth visiting.
A. H.
Lovely Cathedral right in the heart of the city. Impressive architecture inside and outside. Well worth a visit
J. V.
This is a spectacular cathedral with lots of history. I would recommend the tour. This was an hour and cost five pounds. The tour guide Peter was very engaging. There is so much we would have missed walking around on our own.
M. M.
What an amazing place to visit. Absolutely loved our day and we plan on going back to do the walk around the top. The cafe is also very nice and everywhere was so tranquil it felt like we had stepped into another world. Really beautiful place
L. L.
Very beautiful, spectacular cathedral set in some lovely grounds with room to sit on the grass. Interesting information around the building about the different dates of parts of the building. Amazing tombs of past bishops and dignitaries. Friendly welcome - donations not compulsory (but encouraged 😜)
A. C.
As Cathedrals go, it's pretty impressive - and also, unlike some they haven't put a hefty price tag to walk through the door for a wonder, they just encourage donations. We went whilst the lunar landscape was in place which also helped keep the kids accoupied whilst we looked round. Lovely place!
D. S.
Clean and comfortable hotel set in a beautiful area ideal for walking. Good choice of food at reasonable prices. Staff helpful and pleasant. Don't forget to register your car for free parking.
o. o.
Very nice place however beautiful however In the cafe in the front very poor toilets over filled bins slow service to busy chatting unhygienic staff members as well
M. J.
What an absolutely stunning place steeped in history and beautiful architecture. It’s well worth the visit and make it the centre of your day out with the Nene Valley Railway and excellent local shopping nearby. Lots of local history. A great place to visit.
k. m.
You cannot gauge the depth of history, by seeing this place in photos, you need to walk through this magnificent mediaeval treasure.
S. G.
Free place on which we made a donation, help keeps with the costs of such an amazing building. Stunning place which is really inline with York Minster and Winchester. Stunning ceiling and the entrance is stunning. Grounds are clean signs which tell the history of the place.
L. C.
Absolutely beautiful cathedral inside and out. We have planned this visit for a long time - one of the highlights was going to be visiting Katherine of Aragon's final resting place so imagine my disappointment when her tomb is in a restricted area because of a dinosaur display and if we want to see it we have to pay £32. Whilst I appreciate the need to raise funds for the upkeep of the building, this was genuinely upsetting and very disappointing.
G. D.
Beautiful facade. Small, but perfectly formed. Katherine of Aragon's remains buried here
G. M.
Wonderful place to visit
Full of history , including two Tudor age queens. Took two Ukrainian refugees we are hosting and they loved it. Staff and clergy almost unbelievably helpful and informative.
J. R.
Great rooftop tour on Aug 1 2022. Special thanks to all the docents who took the time to show me around after the tour! Top notch staff and volunteers.
J. E.
Magnificent architecture, located in town with plenty of nearby places to park the go around the high street and shop
l. G.
A Dinosaur exhibition on at the time, so Cathedral full of people, saw Katherine of Arragons tomb.
An outstanding place to visit, we'll laid out exhibits and the building just mind blowing.
Must point out the staff are excellent, very professional
P. E.
Fantastic place to visit. Breathing.
A. M.
Beautiful place and it's free to visit. You can donate something.
W. R.
I love cathedrals, and this one does not disappoint. First you are struck by the height of the place, and some wonderful stain-glass window. A must to see
A. a. S.
Must visit heritage in Peterborough.. can visit for free..truly an architectural marvel..also a good spiritual experience..staff are very friendly and helpful..a souvenir shop is inside to take when u go to remember Peterborough visit..premises are also very good to sit down and enjoy the experience..situated at the heart of city centre..
P. E.
Went to the animatronic dinosaur exhibition. It was fantastic. Excellent, realistic displays with amazing sounds. Well worth the entrance fee. Highly recommended.
m. s.
The cathedral and the Square surrounding is beautiful with a really special atmosphere. Well worth taking some time out if in the area, always amazes me how places like this were built, beautiful.
C. W.
We went on the guided tour £15 each and right up on to the roof, wow what a beautiful building and fantastic view, the guides were very knowledgeable and friendly,it lasted 2 hours, well worth the money.
J.
Beautiful architecture
Must visit place in Peterborough
P. H.
Our 3 year old grandson really enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs.
G. D.
Worth taking a tour as you get the history and the detail of this magnificent cathedral. Highlights for me are the incredible wooden painted ceiling, Catherine of Aragon's resting place and the dedication to Edith Cavell. Mary Queen of Scots also laid to rest here following execution, before removal to London.
A. H.
What a magnificent cathedral. Love to have spent more time there. We'll worth a visit.
T. L.
Visited the Dino exhibit with my grandchildren, they loved it and went round twice. First they were still a bit scared as exhibits are noisy and very realistic
L. T.
Went on school trip it was very well organised x learnt more about the history of the cathedral and its secrets x children were able to sit outside for their lunch x thoroughly enjoyed the time spent there and shall be going again with the husband and not 30 children although they did enjoy it 👍
R. K.
Very detailed, beautifully maintained Cathedral. I would highly recommend visiting it, even if on a short trip to Peterborough.
K. B.
We went to see the T Rex exhibition which my grandsons throughly enjoyed , I did too !. Amazing experience, visually captivating and educational at the same time.
m. m.
Cathederal was ok, went to see the dinousaur exhibit which was a bit pricey for what it was. Building is nice, staff friendly enough, shame about the rest of the area, could do with a litter pick and the hobos in the square could do with somewhere else to go.
P. T.
This is a vast, historical and architectural gem and mistakenly past-by by many. I was very warmly welcomed by the stewards. I had a wonderful, friendly and highly informative tour with Mary - thank you so much for your time and welcome.
N. D.
Fantastic fun for all the family, very educational and interesting for dinasauer enthusiastic children, could be scary for the younger one's, life like models with some interesting facts placed around for you to absorb and take in,
S. C.
We had a brilliant day at cathedral we all enjoyed the dinosaur display and also looking around the cathedral very interesting
D. G. M.
I have been to a number of Cathedrals, across England, and found Peterborough Cathedral to be an incredibly historic place, with amazing grounds.
The architecture is incredible and the building, itself, is warm and inviting, but it didn't hold the wonder for me, like St. Albans Cathedral, for instance.
It is still a wonderful place to visit even if, for me, it left me feeling slightly underwhelmed.
R. F.
A very beautiful Cathedral, that me and my daughter visit all the time, very peaceful atmosphere
S.
If you are in Peterborough never miss this amazing cathedral. So much of history and art entangled in the purest form of christianity. You can learn a lot about the church of England and its magnificent history. The best thing is it is FREE. Please make sure to be generous by donating a quid or two.
L.
This Free to enter Cathedral is absolutely stunning and we were lucky enough to visit on an occasion where they had an art installation of the earth.
The detail in this building is breathtaking and we were grateful for one of the many seats available, in order to be able to sit down in awe. Even from the outside of the Cathedral, I defy anyone not to be blown away by its beauty. The grounds are also extremely popular with people sitting in the grass.
There is a lot of history associated with this amazing place and there are also famous historical figures buried here.
If you plan to visit Peterborough, then the cathedral is a definite must.
M. B.
I'm not a Catholic, nor a cathedral sort of tourist/visitor. I only went here to kill some time, and O Boy it was worth it. This place is amazing, jaw dropping from the very first sight, first of all it's overwhelmingly big, sculptured stone facades make outstanding first impression. And inside it only gets better, ceilings must be seen through provided mirrors as they look much closer this way, and the choir is simply masterpiece. I absolutely recommend visiting Peterborough cathedral, you'll be amazed by craftsmanship and history of this place. Admission is free, but donations are highly advisable.
L. H.
The animatronic dinosaur display is brilliant! Only until September though, then they all go off elsewhere separately!
J.
An absolute stunning place
L. M.
Beautiful cathedral, fascinating place to walk around. Some gorgeous stained glass windows and ceiling work. Pleasantly surprised they've added little contactless card stands to donate as I never have any change on me!
D. H.
Magnificent - there is no other word to describe the Peterborough Cathedral.
As an atheist, my feelings are not spiritual, but rather of amazement at the work that had gone into this beautiful cathedral.
J. C.
Peterborough Cathedral is a magnificent building, a gem at the heart of the city. Our most recent visit was to view Luke Jerram's art installation called Gaia, and the beautiful backdrop of the cathedral made it a breathtaking experience. The cathedral itself, even without extra attractions and incentives to visit, is stunning, and absolutely stuffed with history. The volunteers are always welcoming, friendly and helpful which is a bonus. Set within the peaceful precincts, the cathedral is a haven, offering an atmosphere of tranquility - well worth a visit to escape the bustle beyond the Norman arch!
R. B.
Free entry, just put some money in the box if you want, very nice inside and out and don't forget to walk around the grounds and lots of shops and market on certain days nearby.
A. K.
Looking forward to seeing the lovely stained glass windows hopefully this time I will be able to get a decent picture of them
D. S.
Beautiful 12th century cathedral full of Norman architecture set in stone walled grounds in the very heart of Peterborough. A stunning place to attend an event (the annual Gin Festival is very popular) and plenty of unusual things to take pictures of.
r. a.
First time to great Yarmouth after 15 years. Live in London, great place to visit. Free entry and you can take pictures inside but if there are children performing a choir inside, staff ask you in a friendly manner not to take pics of the children performing but you can still take photos while the children are singing but not of the children. Staff are very friendly and warm as well as kind and informative.
S. B.
Amazing. The detail of the building itself makes you look in awe at how it was originally constructed without present day technology. Truly worth a visit
J. J.
I booked to do the roof & tower tour last weekend (12th Feb) & it was fantastic. The guides, Paul & Phil were extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the history & architecture of the building. The 2 hour tour was extremely informative & a real insight into the history of the city. Lots of spiral staircases to climb rewarded by a great view of Peterborough from the roof. Highly recommended
M. S.
With one of the most dramatic West Fronts in the country, an extraordinary creation of medieval architecture, it would be easy for the interior to be an anticlimax, but it is not. The dramatic Romanesque interior is little altered since its completion 800 years ago and the whole building has recently undergone cleaning and restoration following the dramatic fire of November 2001.
With over 1350 years of Christian worship on the site this is a treasure-house of religious and historic artefacts. Highlights of any visit include Saxon carvings from the earlier buildings on this site, the unique painted nave ceiling, amazing fan vaulting in the 'new' building, elaborately carved Victorian Choir stalls and the burial place of two queens, Katharine of Aragon and Mary Queen of Scots. There is an excellent exhibition in the North Nave Aisle, telling of the history of the Abbey and Cathedral with details of its building and its functioning as a major medieval abbey.
C. D.
Well worth a visit. Free admission (although donations are welcomed) with plenty of architecture and history to examine. The story of how the building has developed from an abbey to a cathedral is set out around the building. Also has a well stocked gift shop. The grounds outside merit a stroll around as well.
T. B.
A jewel of a place! Such a wonderful group of historical monuments in so tiny a city. Not only were two queens buried here in Tudor times, but Edith Cavell, the First World War nurse, murdered by the Germans, is commemorated here, too.
M. L. B.
Really beautiful cathedral and interesting to walk round
Y. S.
Excellent Tudor tour with lots of info but prepare to be standing and walking for an hour.
N. J.
A place that welcomes all people. Whilst on holiday I was made to feel welcome at this place. Done especially well during the covid 19 changes in Church of England Policy.
Neill (Head Server Leicester Cathedral)
M. L.
Went to the evening silent disco and what a great time we had, in such beutiful surroundings....
p. s.
Wonderful place. Peaceful reflective. Lots to enjoy and see. Such a massive building. Well worth it visit.
L. K.
Dinosaurs good, coolness of interior very welcome in 30 degrees heat. Not much else positive
J. R.
Great Cathedral, not huge but very peaceful and beautiful.
V. H.
Such an interesting place to visit. Very peaceful and plenty to look at. Helpful volunteers on hand for any questions.
T. B.
What an amazing place to visit... Very humbling. The staff were very helpful and really kind. Loved the tiny gift shop.
J. J.
Stunningly beautiful cathedral, which is the final resting place of many notable historical figures; in particular Katharine of Aragon, and Mary Queen of Scots (who was later moved by her son James Vl of Scotland, l of England). The Cathedral is nice and warm inside, thanks to giant heaters, and I was heartened to discover that they run an outreach programme for the homeless of the city, bringing many in to sleep inside.
A. W.
A wonderfully peaceful place, the architecture is stunning. A wealth of Englands history. Well worth a visit
G. G.
Nice to see. Catherine of Aragon is buried here. There is a plaque in memory of Edith Cavell. There is a tea shop but not open until June 21.
N. H.
If you love history & places of interest you'll love it... I totally recommend it. Not my first visit and won't be my last.
a. “. 2.
Nice architecture, free to enter. Worth 10 mins of your time. Small gift shop.
Tip: Give a donation as it's a kind thing to do.
A. O.
Went to the cathedral to check out Earth Artwork that was on show - one word description: amazing. Sorry if you missed out on it - I'd you get the chance to see it in another city I would recommend you go 😀
A. G.
If youve an hour or two to spare, and have an interest in medieval history the cathedral and immediate area including the town square are a worth the effort
S. O.
I was in awe of this gorgeous building. It is more impressive than Notre Dame! The interior is just as beautiful. My favorite part of the castle is the grave of Katherine of Aragon, first wife of Henry VIII. A woman who volunteers there told me about the history of the building and was very friendly. It is definitely worth a visit.
A. S.
We went to a candlelight concert of Baroque music. Also Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Absolutely amazing night.
N. A.
Beautiful beautiful cathedral. So calm and peaceful, love sitting and having lunch in its grounds and looking up at this historical building. All staff are so so lovely. Some great amazing things always taking place here for example Tim Peaks space ship. Every time I visit I never get bored or tired looking around this magnificent place.
K.
Absolutely beautiful Cathedral located in my girlfriend's hometown. A stunning walk through the grounds, highly advising anyone who can to visit it!
S. S.
The choir that sang while I was there enjoying the architecture just took me to another time and dimension. Insanely beautiful
J. L. A.
Amazing cathedral. Amiable and helpful staff. The guided tour by Brian was brilliant. Lots of interesting stories.
G. B.
Not religious but the building architecture is fabulous the amount of history inside and out people buried there is educational staff good been for carol service before which is amazing worth a visit
I. Y.
The interior and exterior of the cathedral are simply wonderful. The stone is of a very pleasing colour and looked magnificent on the sunny day I visited. Staff were very friendly and the scale and simplicity of the interior left me feeling very emotional. The absence of crowds helped to give the visitor an opportunity to think and reflect on 900 years of history of this jewel of the Middle Ages.
T. S.
Amazing few hours spent in the garden behind the Bishop's Palace. Attended the annual Heritage Festival. Not usually accessible.
G. P.
Didn't like Peterborough much but this Cathedral and its surroundings are amazing, definitely worth a visit.
You have plenty of car parks close but all paid
D. F.
I'm not usually into Christian things (as I'm not a Christian), but old buildings like these and their history are amazing! Love the place, staff and scenery
M. T.
Very nice cathedral with lots of history. Was pleasantly surprised to hear about the 900 years of history that it has.
P. S.
If you live in Peterborough or are just visiting I fully recommend you go to the cathedral.
So much history and art it's easy to lose an afternoon (even if you have no real interest in either)
T. C.
One of the great cathedrals a must see
a. j.
St. Peter's cathedral in Peterborough isThe best Cathedral in the hole of United kingdom peterborough peterboroughshire 2022 over 900 years old
S. T.
First time going lovely cathedral and its free to enter with donation points throughout the cathedral
J. L.
What a lovely cathedral this is... I am a amateur Photographer so a beautiful building like this is a must for me. There was a £3 photographers fee to pay at the main entrance, but that was nothing compared to the beauty inside. I got talking with a lovely elderly lady who works/volunteers there (Lady from Holland I think) and she was very helpful and polite and really knew her stuff about the cathedral. A very much loved experience and I would strongly recommend a visit and don't forget to have a walk around the grounds outside. I was heartbroken to read that some idiot tried to set fire to the cathedral in November 2001. Anyone who would want to destroy such beauty, really must have no soul!
C. P.
Such an amazing piece of history, great to see such an amazing atmosphere, the staff are also very welcoming and friendly!
G. E.
Heaps of history here. Beautiful building and exceptional gardens plus t rex too
D. m.
There for a school Christmas concert. What a wonderful setting. A very impressive exterior with lovely well kept grounds. Inside is absolutely beautiful.. the architecture is very impressive and as it is generally open to public viewing there is plenty of information about the history of the place available.
M. C.
Rare, old and majestic building that deserves to spend hours and hours to get to know it and admire! Real masterpiece! I was amazed to find out the age of the stones and the capacity of builders to create that sharp and hi towers, but not only them...Amazing,worthy place to book a visit!
D. S.
The cathedral is a beautiful building, both inside and out. Guided tours are available, or you can just wander and enjoy the magnificent architecture.
For the more adventurous, the tower tours take you into the upper floors and onto the roof, which offers great views of the city.
Well worth a visit.
S.
Spectacular historical building in a quiet garden setting just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the shops.
S. A.
One of my favourite places to be. Rich in history, from many different perspectives, well maintained and lots to see.
Hard to imagine such a verity of interesting things gathered under one roof, music, religion, history, culture and the sheer awesomeness of the building itself.
j.
Peterborough Cathedral is well worth a visit. I spent several hours inside and had a tour which was wonderful. Sue was my tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and had her own insights which she shared. The Cathedral has it's original ceiling which is rare and the original ceiling paintings, which escaped destruction due to being unnoticed as covered in dirt. The Cathedral currently has an art installation inside which will travel the country. It's about the impact of Covid 19 and is worth a look.
A. S.
Fabulous models of dinosaurs....our 18mth old was completely enthralled.
R. P.
Really good large cathedral lovely ceilings and a lot to see.
C. C.
Definetly a must-go when you are in Peterborough. Very famous due to the fact it is one of the oldest cathedrals in Britain.
A large range of events and interesting heritage inside.
C. B.
What a ceiling this cathedral has ! But I was there for the dinosaurs which were good !
M. B.
Came for the Katherine of Aragon festival. Beautiful building and rich history! I highly recommend the upper levels and tower tour and the Tudor cathedral tour.
s. s.
Light show was amazing, well worth the money
T. C.
Beautiful building currently home to the Dinosaur display from Nat. History Museum
s. p.
Lovely place! Atmosphere is fantastic! Cathedral is amazing!! I recommend this place!
M. L.
Wonderful Gothic West facade. Free entry, although donation recommended. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in history as Catherine of Aragon (first wife of Henry VIII) is buried here.
L. L.
Lovely building. What more can I say.
A. J.
Beautiful architecture and location is amazing, its within the town centre.
T. E.
Peterborough Cathedral is lovely with so much history. The staff in there are very dedicated and very helpful. They have a small gift section over to the right as you enter as a bigger gift shop is currently being fitted where the older one was. I visited to light a candle for my late Dad and bought a few items in the gift shop. A visit to this beautiful Cathedral is a must.
Y. U. N.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, no entry fee, plenty of space, not too busy, polite request for donations.
Ideal public attraction for maturer visitors.
C. K.
A lovely welcoming and explanation of the cathedral
B. R.
One of our great cathedrals and some wonderful Tudor history. We'll worth a couple of hours at least.
G. F.
England's most majestic and staggering cathedral. Gothic architecture and incredible arches shoot above you, with amazing stained glass windows, details surrounding. The final resting place of Katharine of Aragon is breathtaking. Well worth a visit, and entry is free.
V. G.
The Cathedral is a lovely monument...... A lovely place to visit
N. S.
Want for the Dinosaur exhibition, wad pretty good.
B. S.
Space exhibition was interesting. But the cathedral and its displays never seem to be updated. There is little new to see or learn. It's made very clear that the place asks for donations! Historical but not informative.
H. A.
This place was absolutely awesome the architecture was just so awesome and the thing is huge
M.
Beautiful & impressive building, fantastic roof & added bonus with Tim Peakes exhibition, the virtual reality show was great!
B. F.
We had lots of fun exploring and learning about the cathedral in a Tower Tour. The guide was awesome. The views were exceptional inside and outside the cathedral. We felt very privileged throughout to get to witness different times in history that have shaped this magnificent cathedral but also to go through the rooms and staircases in the background and upper levels.
Thank you so much to all the staff there, so welcoming!
R. L.
Very enjoyable. Friendly welcome, informative staff. Cathedral clean, looked well cared for. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
D. M.
Oh my golly gosh. Cathedral. Stand tall my old pal. I could stare at you all day. Not in a pervy way. Just admiring from a distance. Some git shouted "perv" at me once. Someone. Ironically. Wearing a Justin Beaver t shirt. Oh the youth of today. Pervs were outcasts back in my day. Out of sight. Out of mind. Kept themselves to themsleves. Michael Budd, my old pal, used to be a perv. But retired back in 92'. Now he just drinks too much and kicks pigeons. Genius bloke though. Knows 2 languages and can cry underwater. Love to chat but ipad battery running loww ////..//.,/.,. byts. Deereak

Very nice building of interest.. Very nice detail, very big and a really nice eye opener for its architectural wonder.

The Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Andrew in Peterborough is easily recognisable with its unusual triple gabled West front portico.
The original church, founded in 655 was one of the first centres of Christianity in England. The large and wealthy monastic community that developed drew the attention of the invading Danes. The Hedda Stone commemorates the destruction of the first church by Vikings in the 860s.
A Benedictine abbey was formed in 966 from what remained of that earlier church. Minor damage was inflicted during Norman invasion and the abbey was developed further before destruction by accidental fire in 1116.
The new cathedral was built in the Norman style, completed in 1193. It is one of the most important 12th century buildings in Britain. Apart from the 16th century New Building wrapped around the sanctuary, the cathedral has been changed little since it's completion.
The wooden ceiling of the nave was completed by 1250 is unique in Britain. It was over-painted in 1745 and 1834 but still retains its original character and design.
The cathedral is the final resting place of Katherine of Aragon, 1st wife of Henry VIII. Mary, Queen of Scots was buried here initially before being moved to Westminster Abbey.
The cathedral was struck again by fire in November 2001. Oily smoke from burning plastic chairs coated much of the interior. Damage from the fire and the water to extinguish it ruined the organ and the whole instrument was rebuilt.

Wonderful historic cathedral with very friendly and helpful cathedral staff
T. C.
Beautiful cathedral and grounds. We went to visit the art exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed it
J. D.
One of the most beautiful building, absolutely fantastic. Well worth a visit to take in the architecture. The team at the Cathedral are friendly and welcoming. A lot of information displayed throughout the Cathedral. The "One Step" moon art installation was on a much bigger scale than I expected, it was fun to take photos of our feet on the moon! It is such a beautiful building, I wish it was more well known, to acknowledge the beauty of the building.

Lovely place to go and look at
P. M.
Lovely space and amazing roof. Look for the monkey riding a goat!

Nice lady on the door. I know the cathedral and would highly recommend it. Active as well as interesting. Visited a side chapel, famous for housing St.Oswald,s arm. A soothing generous place to pray.
E. H.
What a great piece of architecture!
Guides and staff members are very informative and nice. We took the tower tour, the shorter one, for £6 and the view was spectacular from above. Some nice bits of information along the way as well. Quite steep and narrow steps though but you are shown pictures and warned well before by the lovely staff.
R. Y.
Absolutely lovely place and very peaceful too love visiting its somewhere u can go to relieve ur stress
G. I.
A breath taking place to spend a little time in Peterborough.
Plenty to see, take in and appreciate both outside and in.
Large enough to find those pockets of peace and tranquility even with a lovely and lively baptism going on within the cathedral.
If you appreciate architecture and history then take a little time to visit and enjoy.
W. H.
A very nice and interesting historical Anglo-Saxon Cathedral 1001 years old.
T. M.
Beautiful Cathedral inside and outside. Was great when I visited as the choir was rehearsing.
S. S.
What a great experience, we completed the Tower Tour of the Cathedral, it was amazing.
J.
Amazing and beautiful building! Tim Peake spacecraft being there was an added bonus. Great experience, highly recommended.

Last year, the Cathedral celebrated its nine hundredth anniversary. For visitors to Peterborough it should be a must visit , whether one is religious or not. It used to house the tomb of Mary Queen of Scots until it was moved, sadly. If still there it would have provided more attraction for visiting a city that has been over modernised. At least the tomb of Henry VIII’s first wife , Katherine of Aragon is still here . There is always something to discover here. The beautiful eagle lectern is 500 years old and was almost destroyed by Oliver Cromwell who mistakenly thought it was gold . The ninth century Hedda Stone is here, the oldest object in the Cathedral . There are many fascinating things to see here, each with an intriguing story. Last year the Cathedral staged the Museum of the Moon exhibit, for which I have provided a photo. Around the same time, Tim Peake’s Soyuz space capsule was also exhibited . There’s always something well worth seeing here.
b. H.
Fabulous place. Interesting old faceless clock, nice stain glass windows and an interesting history
B. C.
Impressive cathedral with interesting architecture. Nice way to spend a few hours if in Peterborough.
G. G.
A lovely greeting and chat upon entry. Good to be able to donate with the tap of a card. A cathedral filled with history. It wasn't all old dusty history, there was an interesting photo of the moon on the floor for children to enjoy( also the not so young too).
A. V.
If you have a free weekend and you want to spend it away from London or any big city, this is a perfect place for you
J. D.
Lovely cathedral. I didn't realise how significant is used to be. Katherine of Aragon is buried here.
G. W.
Stunning building, especially worthwhile visiting before November 2018 as there is a free exhibition showing Tim Peake's landing craft. This thing landed in Kazakhstan in 2016
R. A.
Just a quick look see with the Wife as we were in the general area, very nice well worth the visit.
J. T.
Had a lovely hour or so beautiful church as you can see worth a visit.
B. V.
Quite a massive and nicely ornamented cathedral. Definitely a place to visit if you're passing by Peterborough.
S. H.
A beautiful building with a stunning ceiling and the added bonus of having Catherine of Aragon's grave.
A. M.
Time to kill and how pleased I was to visit this glorious building and its associated precinct. Walking around the building you can't but help feel overwhelmed by its size. The effect 900 years ago must have been terrifying. Inside the sense of scale is even greater and the Romanesque decoration in evidence. A must see building on a national even internstionsl basis.
J. S.
The best cathedral for miles around. In a wonderful setting.
B. G.
Rememberance Sunday service in Peterborough was serene. The service in the Cathedral was magnificently created to give thanks, especially to all the people who sacrificed their lives throughout the wars🙏
A. K.
Tranquillity in a busy city. Worth the visit for the building or just to sit in peace for a bit.
K. M.
Beautiful Cathedral, absolutely stunning work!
d. w.
Lovely to pop in for a few minutes.
c. g.
Its amazing medieval structure and the size is what you don't realise how big the inside. Built for the centuries and I question all mordern architecture will survive the test of time?
The History and Archaeology of Peterborough Cathedral Square - Peterborough Archaeology check it out!
A. P.
Well worth a visit. So good that payment is voluntary. I don't believe it's right to pay to enter the House of God. Well done and God bless the leadership for leaving it to the discretion of the visitors.
E. H.
This is breathtaking and amazing just to think its almost dubbed as old as south Africa and still its breathtaking beautiful
F. C.
Beautiful! The EARTH/Gaia exhibition is well worth a visit! Thoroughly enjoyed the talk and films of nenescape given by Judi and Andrew from One To One development Trust. Excellent. Five stars.

A beautiful building filled with history
J. B.
Very happy I made the trip. Unfortunately the full roof tour was full (book online), but it gives me a good reason to return.
Lots of run looking around the grounds, the cloisters was lovely sun trap, and the surrounding areas provided a few surprises.
m. b.
We have visited the cathedral many times & we enjoyed today's visit. It was quiet, the organist played great music. We out candles for our departed family & friends & visited the resting place of Anne Boleyn. Another very pleasant visit & my wife purchased a rosary for her own requirement. Thanks.
L. M.
Great place steeped in history. Went to see the Moon display expecting a giant model of the moon that I had seen advertised before now in various places...but on arrival it was a floor display of the Moon's surface that you could walk on....human error.
R. A.
Remarkable place to visit. Architecturally pleasing and space around the place is great too.
We just happend to have landed on on rhe heritage festival in and around the cathedral and loved every minute of it.
It was bustling with people and stalls..with enactments of early century to modern times. Lots of history and 'try your hands' at stuff such as creating spindles from wood, leather belt making etc.
Worth a trip and easily found inside Pboro.
r. c.
Beautiful cathedral. Lovely gardens around and quaint square in front.
W. B.
I ended up coming here ironically for the Gin and Rum Festival and the grounds were absolutely stunning. The few parts of the inside of the cathedral that I saw absolutely blew me away and I can't wait to go back another time and see it in full glory. I definitely recommend for a small trip for those who are interested in cathedrals or older buildings or anything of the sort. It's beautiful here.
A. R.
An iconic place of historical importance in Peterborough; it's colored glass work is beautiful.
S. C.
Couldn't ask for a more tranquil spot in a busy town centre. Stunning views of the cathedral coupled with excellent coffee and cakes from Sundays. Well done everyone looking forward to our next visit.
M. P.
The current moon surface exhibition is great. Plenty of tombs to marvel at. Catherine of Aragon for example.
A. B.
Amazing piece of architecture. Adapted well for community use and visits from members of the public. Meeting place for local dignitaries. Resting place for Queen Katherine of Aragon.
E. M. B.
Alot of valuable history. It's amazing how they have preserved the history of this monument too. Good facilities!
g. b.
Beautiful building, visited to see Catherine of Aragon's tomb as my wife is very interested in the Tudors. Lady guide at entrance was very helpful and friendly.
P. R.
Architecture comparable to most famous similar buildings in Europe. Reformation which led to lack of internal ornaments, makes it less aytractive than European counterparts. Nonetheless, a must see for livers of architecture. A real artpiece.
C. L.
Was invited to ring the bells at the cathedral , everyone was very friendly. It was amazing going up but photos aren't great
S. F.
Free entry with really interesting history, and a lovely cathedral close
C. G.
This Cathedral is amazing. The outside is impressive & imposing as you approach through the archway into the grounds. Inside you are treated to an awesome spectacular display of architecture. The entry is free & worthy of a visit.
K. P.

Peterborough Cathedral is excellent. I really enjoyed my visit. Marvellous medieval building!
T. W.
Beautiful building, lovely to see and visit. Shame it's in Peterborough.
S. B.
Beautiful place. Historic well maintained
G. J.
Beautiful place. Sometimes has sick expeditions. Great to visit with family.
J. P.
Always worth visiting for the impressive wooden ceiling, apparently the only one of its type in Britain.
Currently worth visiting to view Tim Peake's descent module which is on display.
E. B.
Very pleasant, donation entry I think. I left that to my husband. We're always interested in the round radiators, similar to the ones in Ely. Photo of the ceiling attached.
D. L. S.
absolutely beautiful place to visit, would highly recommend that you wait when there a exhibition going on.
9/10

lovely building that must not be destroyed, recomended magnificent Gothic architecture, Romanesque architecture, Norman architecture, and English Gothic architecture. Give generously as the upkeep is enormous

Beautiful cathedral - the choir and ceiling warranting particular attention.
Katherine of Aragon’s tomb was an unexpected and moving discovery
Staff were welcoming and knowledgeable- well worth a visit!

Beautiful Cathedral, well worth a visit
P. E.
Lovely cathedral. Always something extra to see like Tim Peake's space capsule display or recently the Gaia exhibition. Carol service, not to be missed and more.
J. R.
Loved the cathedral made me feel safe and grateful for getting to see such wonderful architecture. We even got a mini service before we left
J. M.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Upoer Levels and Towers! Knowledgeable and fun tour guides that made the climb interesting, historical, and fascinating. So glad we did it!
s. b.
The exterior gives the illusion of a relatively modest scale by cathedral standards, but walk in the door and the interior appears cavernous. It really is a very impressive space, not to mention fine in features and detailing. The children and I were given attentive treatment by staff who showed us enlarged images of ceiling paintings and historical facts of the building's history over the ages. I was fascinated to learn that it was a former Abbey which changed status to avoid demolition at the hands of Henry VIII. How anybody could be motivated to destroy such a thing is a puzzle to me. This is exactly what happened to nearby Leicester Abbey and we mused what it might have looked as we stood with our necks craned upwards.
M. M.
A fantastic Cathedral and worth a visit
s. r.
Beautiful

Very good guided tour of the Tower for £6 per person. Dizzying heights. The cathedral is stunning. Worth a trip to Peterborough to see it.

Such a wonderful Cathedral set in the heart of Peterborough. Friendly, helpful staff and beautiful stained glass windows and informative displays. Well worth a visit if you are up that way. My partner does not usually 'do' Cathedrals - but even he was impressed!!
M.
When ancient buildings look as admirable as the cathedral is when we truly appreciate the history behind it. Peterborough is lucky to have such a masterpiece
S. H.
Wonderful experience. Everyone showed a covid pass before entering. I felt really safe and had a lovely evening.
R. C.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Peterborough. Would definitely recommend paying it a visit when around the area.
D. M.

A very nice and historical Cathedral where lie the remains of a great queen who preserve her faith in front of her schismatic husband, King Henry VIII.
A. C.
Brilliant. Well worth a visit. Laid a pomegranate on Katherine of Aragon tomb. Free guided tour was excellent.

Showing a friend the sights of Peterborough, our hidden gem.
Beautiful and very quiet, also very warm considering it was cold and stormy outside. We both enjoyed out time there. Would highly recommend.
K. K.
Beautiful cathedral with massive historical heritage set in a beautiful environment. The entrance was free on Sunday which was bonus and the lack and surprisingly, there is always someone to explain you the rich history of the cathedral. Overall, wholeheartedly recommended ;)
H. P.
Fab art exhibition
C. P.
Absolutely gorgeous place to visit
J. B.
Been coming here since I was a kid. Back then I used to love listening to the choir practice and sitting on the grounds to eat lunch. It seemed so tranquil back then. It's still a wonderful place to visit, a beautiful example of these historic buildings, but perhaps less tranquil.
J. S.
Wonderful calming place be feel at peace away from the rat race world. Beautiful architecture and gardens to relax and read a book or hear the choir singing practising in their separate building.
L. R.
The big skeleton of the dinosaur was great
C. D.
It's a beautiful cathedral with the resting place of Katherine of Aragone and the 1st resting place of Mary Queen of Scots
N. H.
The Cathedral is a wonderful building, with some parts dating back over 700 years. It is well worth a walk around inside and a stroll through the gardens and surrounding buildings. There is nice cafe in the grounds too.
M. H.
Firstly you don't have to pay to get in which for a welcome makes a change compared to most attractions in the UK. The cathedral is grand and has a real genuine feel. The outside of the cathedral is also very interesting to walk around.
As a tourist i preferred it to Windsor Castle!
R. B.
A great display that we really enjoyed.
G. L.
A wonderful place to contemplate and relax and just have a walk around looking at the amazing stone and woodwork, I've lived in Peterborough six years and this was my first visit, shame on me! Not religious in the slightest but you just can't deny it beauty and majesty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you all for looking after this historic gem.
F. b.
Amazing historical place. Well worth a visit
E. O.
Beautiful Cathedral, helpful volunteers as well as the canon who wanted us to appreciate our visit. Mary, Queen of Scots was originally buried there and Catherine of Aragon is buried there. Due to an astute Abbott - who became the first Bishop - the building was saved from Henry VIII's desecration.
C. J.
Lovely old cathedral, with an extraordinary ceiling. It was also lovely to hear a slightly modern concert being rehearsed with the amazing acoustics. I also like how the grounds host festivals & events, making it very 'accessible' for us "ordinary" folk!!
B. E.
A wonderful Norman Cathedral, very friendly staff. A lovely place for quiet contemplation
L. S.
Beautiful building housing Katherine of Aragon's remaIns
S. W.

Amazing Cathedral,
The lighting inside is amazing for taking pictures. Do take permission if you can.
It has service quite a few times, so best to be quiet and not get in the way.
J. R.
A stunning venue. One of the nicest places to visit in Peterborough.
P. S.
Fantastic cathedral, lots of history. Tower tour very good. We'll worth a visit
K. (.
I love cathedrals, and this one is exceptional. You don't have to be religious to appreciate the breathtaking architecture involved with a cathedral. I was in awe at how beautiful this one is. They often hold exhibitions and events so check the website. There is a toilet but it's not in the cathedral, it's in an associated cafe a few hundred yards away. Well worth a visit, a beautiful place.
G. P.
Came for Carol Service with Salvation Army. All of Cathedral was open for exploring. Fascinating history panels and important persons buried there. Gorgeous architecture. Great music with energy. Friendly leaders.
l. l.
More Impressive building than i would expect in a city of this size . Well maintained and the guides wereveruhelpful and friendly. Pity there is not a coffee stop.
P. L.
Love this 900 year old cathedral. There are free guided tours and also option to climb the tower. Some interesting history behind and a few masonic symbols to spot for fans of conspiracy theories. Lovely to lie down on the grass nearby if the weather allows to.
A. M.
Always a pleasure to see the detail that is carved into the walls
Its a beautiful cathedral. Sat and had some lunch on the grounds with my son.
A. C.
The first thing that I can say about this stunning piece of architecture is... wow.
I came here with my boyfriend and unfortunately this was just before the quarantine of COVID so it was a little on edge with not touching things and staying away from people etc but they were still very happy for us to come in and view the cathedral. However, this also meant that there were a few things not open so we only saw the cathedral. However, that shouldn't take away how absolutely stunningly beautiful this place is. The stain glass works are breathtaking and each one of them are different and tells a story. For those history buffs out there, here is where Catherine of Aragon was buried. So here is a good place for us history nerds.
In any case, I would recommend people visiting Peterborough to make the cathedral one of there spots for visiting.
M. H.
Fabulous cathedral with many interesting features. Tours up the Tower are available.
v. s.
Interesting place to visit.
I. L.
An aweinspiring art exhibition from lockdown local sufferers is well worth a visit.
L. M.
Wonderful Easter vigil and confirmation service yesterday.
z. s.
One of the best Cathedrals I have visited. The facade is absolutely beautiful and the inside is just incredible. The ancient architecture is breath taking. I spent 2 hours just wondering round taking it all in. It is also the burial place of Catherine of Aragon, though it's quite modest, it is definitely well worth seing. Amazing place, and the garden out front is a lovely place to sit and have a picnic.
J. S.
Christingle service is lovely, great to see so many children. Very busy but ticketed admission for the service.
A. S.
If you are in Peterborough this is a must go place. This cathedral is almost 800 years old and nicely maintained by the fellow authorities. Don't forget to see the old clock which is inside the cathedral. Surprisingly those old heaters still works. A wonderful cathedral. I would recommend this place to everyone.
M. J. L.
Brilliant.
Amazing history, whether social, economic, political or even contemporary.
Full of activities and information and well worth a visit.
Always welcoming. Glorious surroundings.
Be in awe of the building now 900 years.
A gem.
A. H.
Directions lead you to the back side of the cathedral. You have to drive around to find parking. Park at ASDA or Queensgate mall and walk the 1-2min to cathedral.
J. W.
Beautiful historic building with nice surrounding buildings. You can buy a snack, hot and cold beverages and even a roast beef dinner at a reasonable price in their coffee shop called 'The Sunday'.
T. S.
Heaped in history and a fantastic day out!
B. W.
We visited this beautiful cathedral and attended choral evening. Extremely welcoming. The area around the apse chapel and altar is serene. Katherine of Aragon tomb is real history
P. T.
One of the most beautiful cathedrals in the UK. They regularly hold a variety of events such as a gin festival, heritage festival and Christmas Concert. A lot of history is contained within these walls.
R. A.
Stunning cathedral, helpful staff and volunteers. If you love cathedrals you will adore this. Several phases of building, right back to Norman architecture through to fan vaulting. Visitors centre very informative about the building of the cathedral.
S. I.
Epic building, great bits like the interesting statues and tombs headers but the pressure to donate, the fact things have been built half over tomb stones in the flooe and the cafe has changed from having epic in theme seats to lame normal seats and is rarely staffed/or they're hiding out back (same on two seperate visits) all puts me off. As does the price of food in there. Still worth a visit if you like cathedrals
D. S.
I love that it was free entry but can still do donations through card. The shop is fantastic and my daughter spent pretty much all of her birthday money there. Its just stunning and the people welcoming you are so inviting and helpful. My only downside was the parking issue and the satnav location was confusing, may be advisable that not all car access and bo parking at site but thats more of satnav than the place itself. The spot outside is beautiful and when we go next time would like for it to be in better weather to truly appreciate the grounds
M.
Such a beautiful character piece in Peterborough. So quiet and peaceful. The lawn is always well kept. The groundmen is rude but the actual cathedral itself is beautiful. Go and have a look inside you will be amazed.
K. E.
Great display, could have made more of it as it was summer holidays and there wasn't anything for the children
c. i.
Fantastic. So pleased I made it.. Cathedral with 900 years story/history. Malta to London to Peterborough. Do not miss a day

Absolutely amazing! Beautiful place to visit .
R.
Had a good time out here ,brilliant historical building, looks magnificent!
A. M.
A gem with so much history attached. I was here December 2017 and it was a memorable visit. This is another example of beautiful Romanesque Gothic style building. I was struck by its magnificent spires and impressive towers! The nave is even more spectacular with its Norman and medieval architectural designs. The Choir and the impressive fan vaulting of the "new part" of the Cathedral are unbelievably beautiful! And of course you mustn't miss the burial graves of famous and well known people like Catherine of Aragon, and Mary, Queen of Scots who was buried here before being disinterred and reinterred in Westminster Abbey. A must visit. Doable as I was staying in Lincoln and caught the train here.
D. S.
Absolutely beautiful building, friendly guides an amazing place for a quick visit.
J. G.
Such a lovely place to visit if you want an oasis of peace, calm and tranquility + bags of history/spirituality. I was on a mobility scooter and had no trouble getting around. Kind helpers took time to chat and make me feel welcome.
M. M.
Beautiful cathedral so much history in one place, guides were very knowledgeable, well worth a visit! Excellent food in the cafe if you get peckish.
L. W.
Fascinating place to visit - very friendly and welcoming hosts, and a beautiful interior with intricate sandstone and wood carvings. Some interesting quirks too - see if you can find the monkey riding the goat!

Nice place to visit.
N. D.
Interesting building. Pricey to enter though
A. B. (.
What a nice welcome in the Peterborough Cathedral, got met by a person on entrance to quickly show things around. Tower tour is not just a tower tour, but much of the cathedral one, including going on top of central tower, upper levels, under the roof and bell tower. Was a pleasure to talk to people who know so much about this wonderful place! Highly recommend tower tour for architecture lovers.
H. R.
Beautiful cathedral - 900 years of history. Warms the heart to walk around. Catherine of Aragon (first wife of Henry VII) is buried here.
Go and be amazed. Free but try and leave a donation. Worth preserving such a wonderful place for another 900 years!
S. M.
As an American, I am in awe of the architecture of these beautiful cathedrals. The ceilings and wooden screens are magnificent! Can't hardly wrap my brain around the construction, up to 100yrs to build this masterpiece! Then let's add the history of kings, queens, and treachery and you have a true page turner of life! Peterborough did not disappoint!
L. K.
Great to visit. No fees
E.
I wouldn't consider myself religious or anything, but I just love seeing these majestic buildings. The amount of time and effort people put into this over the years is just amazing. The picture I uploaded of the chairs for the choir just shows this in every way. All these little carvings, the little figures etc. someone must have spent ages making these. Another fine example is the ceiling or the floor. The amount of marble just perfectly shows how much money the church had back then. Very stunning.
A. P.
Beautiful cathedral in the heart of Peterborough. Entrance is free although they naturally welcome a donation. There's a small garden burial grounds on the outskirts. Mary Queen of Scots was buried here as well as many other notible historical figures. A short walk to the town square with all the shopping amenities near by.
R. H.
Wonderful old cathedral in central on town must see

J. C.
Fascinating history - lots of info panels inside and a friendly tour guide. Good cafe on site too!
Cost a bit to enter, but you can access the back of the nave for free.
G. T.
Worth a walk around, has information boards and a gift shop.
K. D.
Beautiful cathedral, staff very welcoming
A. B.
Beautiful cathedral in the centre of Peterborough. We visited for a performance by the local choir and the sound was phenomenal. Lots of parking options, shops and restaurants available nearby
S. O.
Thy kingdom come service was inspiring, energetic and full of the holy spirit. Wonderful music group and song choice well chosen for the style of worship. Wonderful historic building. A beautiful place to meet with God.
J. S.
Absolutely beautiful and stunning. If you ever go to Peterborough and have some time you must visit just breathtaking to look at. If your a tudor fan then you can see the resting place of Catherine of aragon and the former resting place of Mary Queen of Scots. I have only been at one service and the place sounded amazing.
C. S.
Everything an English Cathedral is. History, Grandeur, Awe, Spiritual. Deffo visit.
C. C.
We love visiting Peterborough Cathedral, its one of the most beautiful spots in the city and always has a very welcoming atmosphere. The Gaia exhibition currently on in the Cathedral till 15 Sept 2019 is definitely worth a visit as well!
N. G.
A lovely Cathedral on the outside and well kept grounds. It was a pleasant walk around it with the better half.
V. J.
Exellent inside and outside. Ladies, who are working in Cathedral are super nice.
T.
Get a view of the cathedral (albeit through a tree) from my office everyday. Probably the best thing about Peterborough.
S. W.
Fabulous cathedral and extremely interesting to explore
K. K.
Dinosaur expo was good.
M. H.
An absolutely incredible cathedral. First of all, it's huge. It took over 100 years to build and it's easy to see why. The stained glass windows all have a lot of thought put into the scenes chosen, and the architecture of the building itself is magnificent. I visited during Covid and so it wasn't quite as open as perhaps it used to be, with sections cordoned off, but there was lots of information around and a thoughtful booklet to guide you round. Really recommend.
M. D.
Stunning cathedral with thousands of years of history on one site. The staff are also very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend this cathedral to anyone with a love of history.
A. C.
A regular visitor to the Cathedral, as although I worship nearby at St Mary's, I ring the bells at the Cathedral.
Excellent value if you take a rooftop tower tour and if interesting in bellringing please get in touch.
R. B.
A long visit lasting about 90 minutes. The only disappointment was that the guided tour schedule for 1100 did not take place. Most of the architecture is Norman Romanesque but the entire west front was added later. Interesting historical connections with Catherine of Aragon who is buried here and with Mary,Queen of Scots who was buried here for about 25 years until her son moved her body to Westminster Abbey.

Very big cathedral welcoming staff. Have started to put on shows like a giant moon. Earth. Next summer having life size dinosaurs on show

Very grand Cathederal. The outside is incredible and there is a lot of information about its history. There is a monument to Katherine of Aragon at her resting place, and Mary Queen of Scots too.
In the grounds there is a monastery with lots of interesting signs as you walk around. There is also a lovely tea room at the front with a little garden where you can sit.
Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Lovely Cathedral but very cold after two and half hours

Beautiful place. Peterborough's most precious jewel!
C. A.
Beautiful building, friendly and welcoming staff. Non-commercial photography permitted free of charge. Look up, the ceiling is awesone. Favourite fact: the new bit was completed in 1500.

With Durham this is the most complete great church in England built in the Romanesque style. Free guided tours (donation requested) are offered in the morning and afternoon and in the summer tower tours and specialist tours are also available on some days. All staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It is probably one of the less well known cathedrals but it is easily reached from the London area and the Midlands and East Anglia and is eminently worth a visit. Entrance is free and there is an interesting Visitor Centre. Don't mind as the West front, the medieval painted nave ceiling, Katharine of Aragon's tomb and the fan vault in the New Building

Beautiful site, visitor friendly, level access inviting atmosphere, helpful staff, seating everywhere, reasonably priced gift shop

Attended the Silent Disco which is always good fun. Kids loved the tuck shop.

Fantastic place to visit if in Peterbrough, or even as part of a day trip to Peterborough you should visit this wonderful building, not only is the building of huge historic value, it is so much more.
The cathedral offers anyone who visits a wonderful opportunity to stand in the shadows of Kings and Queens of England's history, find out how the cathedral was save from the breakaway from Rome and how civil War came to the cathedral, anyone who has an interest in history will be taken in by all it has to offer
People interested in art will also find much to interest you.
Apart from the above the cathedral is also open Dailly for people of all faith's and those who have no faith, it offers a place to take a few moments to reflect and appreciate what we have in life, it offers the visitor so much more than what can be written down, it's one place you will be glad you visited, finally you can also @ different points inside the cathedral light candles for whatever your reasons maybe. The cathedral also has small collection points dotted around inside and you will understand how important funds are to the cathedral.
Enjoy your visit, and maybe after walk across the road and visit the museum 😉

Stunning architecture. Beautiful stainglass, woodwork and ceilings. Such a rich history. The information boards tell you about the monastic life, the building of the Abbey and the cathedral and why this area was so important. They also inform you about Henry VIII's 1st wife Katherine of Aragon as well as other famous people such as Edith Cavell. Well worth a visit if you are interested in history. The tea room is excellent, roast meat rolls, baked potatoes, cakes, soup, sandwiches and roast dinners. It is worth a visit in its own right. Tea and cake £5!

Went to see the Gaia Earth exhibit. Worth seeing , perhaps night time better. Cathedral does well in its efforts to attract visitors and does have a good feel to it

My favourite buildings are Cathedrals. I love this 900 year old building. Amazing intricate details all over it. No wonder it took 120 years to build.

Clearly have loads of money and gold stuff yet are asking for donations. If you can dodge them then architecturally it's good for a 20min wander but a bit freaky what some people will force slaves to do for their imaginary friends.
Overall impression, big in'it.

This cathedral was beautiful and was just a short train ride from London (about an hour). Most tourists probably won't leave London and that's what made this place so nice, no crowds! This is the burial location of Katherine of Aragon and the original burial location of Mary Queen of Scots (before she was moved to Westminster Abbey). It's free to enter and explore at your own pace. It is one of the few cathedrals that will let you take photos inside but they do require a 3 pound donation for each camera. There are a lot of places to grab a bite around the area as well.

Fantastic places to go.

Good atmosphere, amazing architecture

Just completed a tower tour of Peterborough Cathedral. Very interesting and thoroughly recommended especially to residents of the city who don't appreciate what a wonderful asset they have.

Stunning historic cathedral, a link to some very important times in British history well worth a visit. Did not however like the bombardment by 'sales staff' as you walk through the cathedral door. "Entrance free but we except donations. 3GBP for a photograph permit and 3GBP for a guide book!!

I highly recommend Upper levels and tower tour - wonderful time, incredible sights, and great guides!

Worth a visit, with really intresting history, and beautiful building and architecture. Free entry with a donation if you wish. Small gift shop with individually made items,.

H and I have visited this wonderful Cathedral many times. We found peace and quiet and a deep sense of history. The vast, echoing space is quite awe-inspiring and - whether you're a believer or not - you can't help feeling a spiritual presence here. Entrance to this Cathedral is free and no-one is in-your-face for money however, on your way out, you will want to give a donation to keep this building available to all of us.
We hadn't visited it for a few years when we saw that Tim Peake's re-entry craft was going to be on display so we decided to have a look. I am so glad that we did. The juxtaposition between science and religion is something that Peterborough Cathedral does so well.
I'm glad that we revisited this beautiful building and we won't leave it so long next time.

Very nice Cathedral, beautiful.

Very beautiful place ! The staff was nice :)

The most beautiful cathedral I've seen in UK so far.
I'm a big fan of cathedrals, I've visited a number of them in several countries and each style is unique. But this particular one is really touching. The light was just incredible, coning from different angles, having widows all over the place. The open view of the main space gives a feeling of freedom and you really feel the peace and faith pouring in every stone.
Then the simple but simbolic tomb of Catalina de Aragon gives an understanding of the live expressed by a people that does not forget her fidelity and coherence in a very dramatic period.
A really worthwhile visit!

Visited for evening City Praise service.

Magnificent and steeped in history

Lovely cathedral full of interesting artifacts and useful guides.

A fascinating cathedral to visit. Catherine of Aragon is buried here. Also Mary Queen of Scots was buried here but her remains were later moved to London on the order of James I (VI of Scotland), her son.

I only had a short time to visit the cathedral, but what I saw made me want to go back and spend more time visiting it. It is truly admirable.

We used the almoners hall for a business event recently. It was a stunningly beautiful venue, but the Almoners Hall was extremely cold, and though there clearly is heating with some large radiators, these weren’t on. It was a cold but sunny day and the room has thick stone walls and floors. No one checked we were ok or offered to provide heat. There’s no long stay parking close by and you need to go into town for lunch, so I can’t recommend as a venue for a business meeting, sadly.

Great place to visit! Lots of history and information. We booked a tour of the Cathedral and it was fantastic!

Great architecture, history & acoustics when the choir sang at evensong. Not a fan of the sermon's message that went with it, but the choir sounded fabulous.
A. E.
Magnificent stonework and space
Beautiful roof.Attended Sunday Choral Evening Song. The choir was superb with delicate handling of Byrd etc. Catharine of Arragon's tomb was simple and moving.

The closest cathedral to where we lived in England, it's fun to visit, and see the Queen's grave and monument. It's easy to pop in when shopping in Peterborough. In the midst of the shops. Right by the mall. If you can, attend an event where Henry the 8th and his wives will be present. I attended a talk by popular author Allison Wier and was lucky enough to find the court there.

Peterborough Cathedral, properly the Cathedral Church of St Peter, St Paul and St Andrew – also known as Saint Peter's Cathedral in the United Kingdom – is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Peterborough, dedicated to Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint Andrew, whose statues look down from the three high gables of the famous West Front. Although it was founded in the Anglo-Saxon period, its architecture is mainly Norman, following a rebuilding in the 12th century. With Durham and Ely cathedrals, it is one of the most important 12th-century buildings in England to have remained largely intact, despite extensions and restoration.

Had a fantastic time
I had visited today for the first time, as a person who is very interested in history I will definitely be going back.
Had to pay £3 each for a photograpy permit , and got a collection of lovely shots
R. O.
Fantastic structure on external part of building . Inside is truely a beautiful work of art. Lots of points of interest inside relating to the cathedral and history. Staff very helpful.
A. M.
Stunning architecture and a full on history lesson. Exactly what you want from a place like this. It's also free entry. A nice little stop if you are shoppi g in peterborough

I have now been to Peterborough cathedral twice once to see the Tim peake's space craft exhibitions and once to learn of the cathedrals rich history. As a history fanatic it has defiantly increased my knowledge of the city and the church and kept me entertand for some time. The Tim peake's exhibition was interesting as well and made for a fun day especially with the edition of the virtual reality experience.

An outstanding cathedral with stunning architecture, monuments, stained glass windows and welcoming cathedral staff. Again no entry fee. Take note York Minster.
T. T.
Had a lovely look around the cathedral. Although I think charging to take pictures inside is a bit much. Takes about an hour to walk around and read most of the info.
B. K.
Enjoy the ancient architecture.
A. N.
Wonderful place... Historian place. In city centre.
P. S.
A superb Norman cathedral offering a warm welcome. The 2pm free tour is a wonderful introduction to it's history and art.

Go there and be seriously impressed by this wonderful example of architecture! It's amazing!

Wow! It's as imposing from a distance as it is inside. Catherine of Aragon rests here.

Lovely Cathedral in the heart of Peterborough. Well worth a visit even if it is to just sit on the green at the front of the cathedral and admire the architecture.

Peterborough cathedral is a really beautiful building which took 120 years to build, the building work started in the year 1118, the perfect place to be for those interested in the history of Peterborough.
