We contacted Carrie having read the online reviews and looked at her website. We are considering having our 20 year old conservatory(built by former owners) demolished and a relatively large extension built in its place. Along with some internal remodelling the aim is to give ourselves a large kitchen/dining room/family area with separate utility room and addition snug. Communication was prompt and courteous advising there would be a fair wait before she could visit should we wish to proceed due to the busy home improvement sector at the moment. We decided to wait as she clearly specialised in the kind of project we had in mind and said as much. When Carrie visited she was easy to talk to and genuinely seemed to want us to make our home better. She quickly understood our ideas around the work we were considering undertaking and whilst taking this into account wasn’t shy in suggesting changes for budgetary, practical or aesthetic reasons. At the time of writing this review we have had our initial sketches and budget costings through. These have captured perfectly what was discussed and agreed whilst offering a plethora of options and professional advice. Carrie’s experience and expertise was clear from the outset and, perhaps most importantly we felt like she was listening and understanding us whilst using her skills to guide the eventual design. We’re just deciding whether to proceed with the build as the estimate is more than our initial budget but are very happy with the service provided and will, if we go ahead be sticking closely to the design.

She came to our home, involved us in the process, ensuring our requirements were met but in addition suggested other options we hadn't thought of to add value to the project. She made a number of valuable suggestions and provided outline costings for the project which has enabled us to decide on the feasibility of it. Carolyn was very helpful, looking at these with fresh eyes and bringing them up to date, listening and responding to various worries I had about the build. I was mightily impressed with Carolyn’s professionalism and levels of organisation. Ahead of the design consultation I had sent Carolyn a proposed brief and a high level description of the work, which included a planning application reference number submitted by the the previous homeowner. Carolyn arrived for the design consultation with a briefing pack, including print outs of the previous plans so that we could design on top of them. I had been running dozens of design permutations through my head over the past year as I refined my ‘vision’; how Carolyn was able to understand my ideas so quickly and sketch them out on paper whilst coming up with many improvements that I hadn’t even considered during all those hours of contemplation is beyond me. The sketches were excellent and I look forward to taking them forward over the coming months. Carolyn even sent me some links to 1930s interior design books to that I might be interested in. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Carolyn.

I cannot stress enough, how important my initial appointment with Carolyn was. It's easy to to be swayed by companies offering 'free' consultations but they don't really 'do' the job. Carolyn came up with ideas I hadn't considered, opened my eyes to alternative possibilities, created a visual both for my extension and it's impact on the house as a whole. It was like seeing its evolution occur before my eyes. I had initially only planned to pay for the first hour, but it was clear how valuable her service was even after 10 minutes! We spent a couple of hours creating the perfect space to compliment our home and family needs. After that, the next steps were clearly signposted, and it was a smooth and easy process from drawing to building. Take my advice, don't skimp on getting the best, professional input at the start of a project or you'll regret it down the line. I highly recommend Hampshire Architect and will be using again!
