It is important to read the terms of the agreement carefully when going through your application.
if Co-Ownership didn't exist I wouldn't have been able to "own" my own home at the age of 22.
We took a 50% deal and we knew what we were getting into.
The yearly price increase of your rent is a given, every company needs to match inflation.
In the long run it does cost you more that buying a house yourself, but without the means of saving for a deposit it is an important lifeline that can get you on the ladder sooner.
If you get lucky and the market dips you can buy out what you borrowed in the first place, if not its the same percentage of the current house value.
We got unlucky and they valued our house above the bank valuation, which in turn cost us extra money in the long run.
The buying out process is simple as long as the bank and co ownership agree on the value (which they didn't in my case) again just unlucky.
Your valuation is only valid for 3 months; so make sure you have the ball rolling and everything in place prior to paying for it.
But; this is all laid out for you when you apply. house prices are always flocculating and you need to take this into consideration when applying.
Keep receipts of any home improvements you make prior to buying out and it will taken into consideration.
We got £1000 taken off what we needed to pay back for this.
All in all; they did what we needed them to do.
If you can afford rent but don't have a deposit for a house, then this is for you.
4* As I feel they over valued the house.

We would still be stuck renting without them. In an ideal world services like Co-Own wouldn't be needed, but when your rent is so high that you can't afford to save a deposit - Co-Own play a valuable role
