We had a fantastic wine tasting session with Jonny for a big group (20+). We learned a lot about the wines with lots of useful information and the relaxed, interactive approach was perfect for our group. Would definitely recommend this to anyone and would like to do it again in future!

We attended the Cheese and Wine pairing Course and truly enjoyed it. Jonny has been clear and gave lots of information and tips on how to enjoy wine accompanying it with food.
I would definitely recommend Sussex Wine School and their courses!!

Our son gave my wife and myself a tasting session as a Christmas present, and we were really impressed with the experience. It's a relatively small and sociable group of people (max 14) who have come together to enjoy and be educated about wine. John is an expert guide, with a light touch, that prompts really exploring the taste and experience as your smell some rather lovely wines. Highly reommenced

Really enjoyed the introductory tasting course last week. Jonny gave a great overview of all the basics - relaxed but clearly very knowledgeable. It was good to get out for an fun evening together, with the excuse that it was all about self-improvement! We hope to be back for more before long.

First experience of Sussex Wine School. I decided to go with a wine enthusiast friend as the topic was Tuscan wines of which I’m fond. Had a great time and learned a lot about the region and how wine is classified in Italy. Couldn’t recommend the school more! I will certainly be going again.

A very enjoyable and informative evening. The presenter, Jonny, was relaxed and friendly and keen to answer any question. I would highly recommend Sussex Wine School for wine enthusiasts or anybody wanting to know more about wine

I went on the Introduction course and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Great venue at the Hotel Du Vin and Jonny was a great host and teacher who really conveyed his passion and knowledge well. I learnt so many things in the 2 hour session and will definitely be looking to attend other events. Thank you.

I took my WSET Level 1 in Wines (online), with West London Wine School, Sarah, the Office manager was great, and really supportive, the level of teaching was outstanding, and I passed my Level one with 100%, (never has this ever happened to me when it comes to exams)! I am now taking my WSET Level 2 with Sussex Wine School, and Jonny was only too pleased to give me his time over the phone. to talk through some things that I couldn't understand. I am hoping for a similar result with my Level 2, and as the teaching and support I am getting I have full confidence that I can achieve this. Thank you to all at Sussex Wine School. You are Fab, keep up the good work!.

Really enjoyed the WSET level 2 and level 3 courses. Jonny is a fantastic tutor, extremely professional and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Sussex Wine School and their WSET courses!

Good price, great venue, six sparkling wines from around the world, clearly chosen with care. There was small plates, to demonstrate food and wine comparing. Small powerpoint presentation, nothing overwhelming, but enough information to make it interesting. All in all the evening was excellent - informal, friendly, relaxed - and as such, I have no hesitation in recommending this to other. Go yourself or buy for a friend....

I was very impressed with our cheese and wine pairing session. Jonny was extremely knowledgeable and it was interesting to learn about all the wine regions in France. The selection of wines was good and the majority of pairings worked well. I would definitely recommend this event.

Sussex Wine School did not disappoint, we had a fun Gin tasting afternoon. Jonny was a fab host, not easy controlling 10 enthusiastic lads but he did a great job. I would recommend to others.

Savouring fine wines and delicious cheeses? What's not to like? Jonny hosted an event that was informative and fun for all. The wines and cheese pairings were carefully and expertly chosen and I learned some subtle tips on their appreciation

We thoroughly enjoyed the Sparkling Wine evening with Sussex Wine School. We learnt a lot and really enjoyed the wines, the company and Jonny's excellent hosting.

We went to an English sparkling wines night, which was just as fabulous as all the other events we've been to. Jonny is extremely knowledgeable but presents the information in a very accessible way. You don't need to know anything about wine to have fun, and it really isn't daunting or snobbish. All you need is to enjoy wine. Of course Jonny's wine choices are always excellent, and the cheese and nibbles are provided are very welcome.

A fun and informative evening tasting 3 different Madeiras and 3 Ports.
Jonny was extremely knowledgeable and shared a wealth of facts throughout the eve.
A great eve for Port lovers.

I wanted to do a course of some kind whilst on furlough and decided to do WSET Level 2 in Wines with Sussex Wine School. Such an amazing course! Loved learning something new, trying new wines and actually understanding wines better! Jonny is a brilliant tutor and all the sessions were great fun. Worked really well via Zoom and great service from their wine supplier, with all quickly delivered straight to my door! Couldn't recommend highly enough - everyone should do a course with them!

If you think a wine tasting session may be pretentious, these are certainly not. The event was fun, interesting and very well presented. A great way to spend a couple of hours and learn some interesting facts, oh and try some interesting wines.

Been lots of times - Jonny is incredibly knowledgeable and creates a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Enjoyed recent session on wines of Chile and Argentina, which also included great cheeses from Cucolo in Heathfield as pairings!

Had an enjoyable and informative evening at the Sussex Wine School private cellar tasting evening. We had a selection of 8 wines (4 white and 4 red) of varying styles, countries and tastes which we tasted blind. Johnny was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and made the everyone feel welcome, relaxed and had a great evening. This was my first evening tasting with the SWS and I've already signed up for more!

Excellent on-line wine tastings. Informative, clear and fun.Three good wines to taste along with an introduction to growing conditions , weather, geography of area. Suggested food matchings for each wine. Good value at £30 (+cost of vino) for 2 evenings. Recommended.

Just completed the 4 Week course on France Vs New World. I found the course very informative and am certainly better equipped now to make educated selections at both restaurants and shops- which I am already putting into practise. I’d recommend a Sussex Wine School course to anyone wanting to learn more about their favourite tipple.

Great night and brilliantly hosted
Jonny was really informative and offered some great tips on things to add to the various gins to suit individual palates
Would definitely try any of their other themed tastings

To date, I've been doing courses since September 2017 with Sussex Wine School and I have been most impressed with their efforts in organisation, knowledge of trainers and choice of venue for wine-tasting events. The ethos seems to be one of informality yet with an emphasis of acquiring new knowledge for those who like myself knew little about wine, except for a rudimentary preference for certain wines over others.
There are so many courses people can do and I did my first exam in wine which was delivered very well by Lisana who has a wonderful manner and has so much knowledge like Jonny the owner.
It's a professional outfit yet is unpretentious. I look forward to doing more courses.

I cannot recommend Sussex Wine School more highly. Jonny Gibson immediately makes you feel welcome into the group, you meet lovely new friends, you learn (and more importantly taste) some fantastic, readily available and value-for-money wines in a relaxed, non-snobish environment. I went along by myself, but straight away felt comfortable and chatted to the others who were there. The wines Jonny chooses are generally available to purchase locally or online and are always sensibly priced.
Jonny's huge knowledge of wine is supported by maps, notes, pictures & information on PowerPoint slides, with along tasting notes to take away with you. Charcuterie, cheeses, breads, olives are provided to match the with wines.
I started on the 8 Week World of Wine Tour, which gave me a fantastic base to learn from, then I moved onto the 4 week France, Italy & Spanish courses and now I enjoy attending the special "one-off" nights such as Weird Grapes, Wine & Chocolate and particularly the Fine Wine nights, such as Bordeaux or Burgundy.
I've learnt a huge amount from attending these evenings, I've made some firm friends and miss the evenings, when I have to wait for the next one I've booked.
Like I said at the beginning I couldn't recommend Sussex Wine School highly enough!

I completed the level 2 WSET with Sussex Wine School, and am now dipping in and out of the huge selection of evening classes on offer (natural wines was a personal fave) before level 3. Can't recommend it enough. Jonny's teaching style is brilliant, with a touch of history, geography and science between tasting the actual wines (the important bit!). His incredible palate – 'can you all get the green pepper notes from that cabernet blend, and the tobacco smoke from the merlot?' – helps you develop your nose and palate (or, like me, realise that you drink too much coffee and it has dulled your taste buds!). Always nice people in each class, and plenty of people turn up alone.

I studied at Sussex Wine School for WSET 2 which was a fantastic course, the teacher, Jonny was fantastic and would be there to answer any questions leading up to the exam via email. Then I studied WSET 3 with Sussex Wine School, unfortunately it was a bad time for me I could hardly make it to the classroom sessions because of work commitments and then I didn't make it to the exam on the last day. When I spoke to Jonny about this, he very kindly said he would still be able to help tutor me and mark any homework that I got over to him, outside of the course period. This is above and beyond any kind of service I ever thought I would get from the Sussex Wine School and any educational body what so ever for that matter. Definitely worth the 5 stars and definitely the best place to learn about wine in Sussex.

Jonny's wine tastings masterfully juggle the balance between providing a huge amount of information in a straightforward and accessible way and ensuring a relaxed and sociable evening. Wines are always carefully selected, venues are well chosen and tasting notes are provided.Food and wine matching evenings and fine wine nights are especially welcome.

Did (and passed) WSET Level 3 with Jonny during the November 2020 lockdown. Great teacher who really prepared us well for all elements of our exams. Will be doing more courses with him for sure.

This was a very enjoyable evening and very informative about the Provence Rose. Having been brought up in the South of France it was particularly good to see several areas that I know well, properly described.
The wine was good too although much of it probably hard to find as most of the producers are small. The difference between the different areas was noticeable and the group were very clear as to which the liked least and which they preferred.
It was a friendly and chatty evening and the 'bonne hommie' around the table excellent, helped no doubt by generous helpings of what we were tasting!
The setting at the Hotel du Vin is excellent for such an occasion.
Thank you

Great tuition, very focused but also relaxed, friendly and unpretentious. Really enjoyed the course (WSET Level 2).
