Family History Research facility Dundas Search room was easy to use. If you have a Scotland's People account you can log into that so your searches are saved and if you want to order certificates it can be done at the same time.
No printing on site. No tea coffee facilities available because of Covid restrictions. Search room places limited because of same issue. Have to book a seat ahead online. No access otherwise. Toilet facilities on site along a corridor but well signposted.
Spacious desks and plug sockets for laptops/chargers etc. Space for A4 pad and other things you might want. Lots of space around you and the desk and windows open for ventilation. Masks required throughout the visit.
Disabled provision , contact them and provide the booking number. It is possible to book an accessible parking space ( must display blue badge when using space), to be accompanied by an official carer, have use of a keyboard suitable for those with impaired vision.
Seat bookings can be transferred but they need more than 24 hours working days notice to do so.

I thought once you paid to use it you would be able to save the images to your Scotlandspeople account. But no you had to pay for them to be printed. A bit of a waste when the world is trying to go paperless. We also really only wanted to use one computer to do our research but the guy made us buy 3 seats even though my Aunt and Uncle didn't have an account and didn't really know what they were doing. A bit annoying as well.as you can't pay by the hour. We left after an hour but had to pay for a whole day. So it made it very expensive.

This is THE place for Scottish Genealogy research. Lovely old building, very central in Edinburgh. You need to book a place to use. You can view BMD, census records etc from about 1599 to present day. You can also download or print some documents. Much more productive than the online site, if you can travel to the City. Small cafe and other facilities.

£15 for a day of searching the Scotland's People website and .30 to print off an image. I had hoped for access to the actual microfilm, as the JPEGs can be hard to read, or help in tracking down my MIA ancestors, but nope. For me it was a waste of money, as I'd already found what I could with the website from the comfort of home. If you've never used the website and you have some details to start with, then it'd be worth doing it here, as they can answer basic questions. The monitors were not very good, though - they look like they're from the '90s. Also no Scottish military records -- have to go to Kew for that.

I spent a very productive day here in Oct 2016 whilst on holiday in the UK. The staff were helpful, one even spent some time locating a marriage for me. I found it was easier to search there then online (however online should be easier after their search update). My only complaint, one day was not enough time.

This is the best place in Scotland to research your family history. ASGRA members work hard here to provide a research service to clients.
