Amazing experience, gives u goosebumps, we went to the final show it was so good the Lone piper was spectacular as was every part of the show. We have had the best time highly recommend going, fireworks after were excellent too. You can buy alcohol in the venue an there are plenty of Loos, friendly staff a great evening. We were also able to get the last train running to our premier inn at 1145 so that was great.

Unexpected and amazing. We decided at last minute to do this, tickets on site were reasonable and easy to use. Huge crowd getting in, we got there early, they moved the line with a precision American Concert goers will appreciate. Was a bit cool, prepare accordingly. Backdrop at Edinburgh Castle was beautiful in all display phases, the assortments of voices and cultures were wonderful to see, sound was good, so was the seating. Spine chilling piper on the castle top alone, ANYTIME the pipers performed in mass. Catch it if you can.

One of the most memorable experiences of our life! We combined the Cannonball Package (Dinner and tickets) for a weekday show. We plan on being back in 2022 and hope to catch 2 shows. Rain or shine, the show runs 90 minutes with military precision. Lots of bagpipes but that is not all. There are military and non-military performers from all over the world. If you find yourself in Edinburgh during August, do yourself a favor and try and go see the Tattoo. You'll be glad you did.

Visited the tattoo a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely, however enjoyed this years show better. The show from start to finish was very good but the music content was super and all the people taking part was enjoying it which was great to see and comes across. I love the Pipes there is something awe inspiring when there are so many together. I am all for tradition but to keep the interest the show has to involve things for all that’s what makes a great show something for all. AMAZING! BEAUTIFUL! I loved all of it. This performance is an experience! We purchased the Bruce Package, started with the Whisky Tasting Experience, had dinner, and proceeded to the event. Center sears, right in front of the esplanade. The event started with two royal military fighter jets flying above the castle! The performance is a must for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

The Tattoo this year 2022 wasn’t as impressive as previous years pre pandemic. For a start there was no commentator - in previous years he introduced the show and bought the audience together, warming us all up by asking what countries we had come from and hearing groups of people in the audience cheering when their country was mentioned, it made us feel very inclusive and part of the show! But none of that this year, without the commentator introducing each performance we were left guessing where some of the acts were coming from. Although the acts were mostly very good, there wasn’t much emphasis on it being a military tattoo, felt more like a cabaret show of singing and dancing. It didn’t have the slick edge of previous years with the precision drills of various regiments showcasing their military talent and discipline. Really felt like there wasn’t any heart to the show and definitely didn’t feel world class. Plus in this year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, no mention of that whatsoever; a massive missed opportunity, The fireworks at the end were very underwhelming, almost felt like a last feeble attempt to inject some excitement into the evening but failed miserably. Also it ended after only 90minutes rather than the 2 hours it once was. We left feeling rather disappointed.

Splurged on the Jacobite dinner & show package for my husband’s first trip to Scotland. Three course dinner with a wee dram and wine - surprisingly good including the haggis starter. Tablet was excellent 🤭 Terrific seats for the Tattoo performance which kept you entertained for 90 solid minutes. Amazing evening - highly recommend!

Can't recommend this enough! The pipe and drum bands are exceptional and sent shivers down my spine. Additionally, the visiting military bands from around the world make the show unique and different every year. Worthwhile for any tourist on their way to Edinburgh in August... just make sure to book far in advance!

The emphasis was more on the modern entertainment needs of audience's short attention span rather than Military, Scottish and Commonwealth music. The Chinese troupe was an anomaly as it is not a Military group and appears to be an appeasement to a new group of tourists visiting Edinburgh.

If you are in Scotland around August you will not be disappointed if you get tickets to the Tattoo. A good trick to remember is, for a few dollars, to join the Friends of the Tattoo (not exactly sure if that’s what it’s called) but it offers you better quality seating. We had seats one row in front of the official guests facing the entrance to the castle, so most of our viewing was done facing the performances. What a great night it was. A truly memorable experience and one I encourage you to take. These sorts of magical events only happen once in a lifetime, and you will have no regrets if you take this opportunity and put this on your bucket list.

This was an absolute pleasure to be there, especially that, it was unexpected visit. Me and my other half made our first journey on the motorcycle, and we wanted to visit Scotland. We decided that Edinburgh will be perfect for the first town to travel. When we finally made from Birmingham to Edinburgh, we decided to check how is the city centre, and this was great idea because when we walk through the Royal mile we meet the nice girl who work for the "Royal military tattoo" We asked her what is going on and why is there so many people, and then she said, "if you want to go I have two tickets, some time ago two men given me, because they were not interested, so so if you want I can give it to you" Wow, we was so shocked and happy, all of the performances was absolutely amazing. We would like to thank to the nice girl and those two men who give back their tickets 😊😊😊

Rather than suggested by the name as Scottish, the show is a celebration of international culture, with an amazing mix of elements - classic and contemporary, serious and fun, disciplinary and versatile. We picked the date the BBC was filming, hands down the best show of the year for us, and a must-go-back-for in Scotland.

Watching it live, is a better experience than watching on TV. Take a warm blanket, (and maybe a poncho) and watch the full excellent military performances. The atmosphere in Edinburgh is great during the EdFringe.

I thought this would be a different thing for the kids to see when on vacation and it was interesting and pretty entertaining but it was crazy expensive especially when buying five tickets. It was mostly an older, like really old crowd so I felt like I really had to control my kids due to the number of elderly folks. Also If you are visting Edinburgh around that time of the year, Fringe Fest offers enough cool stuff to see, no need to spend hundreds of pounds on this unless you are really really into military bands.

I went there in 2015, and it was simply amazing. Spectacular. The best show I've ever seen in my whole life. As the sun sets and the sky above Edinburgh Castle darkens, as the audience quiets down into a low rumble of anticipation, the first trumpet would blare out across the stadium, awing all of us into complete silence. Then the first lines of soldiers would march out as if was time for battle, their instrumental sounds drumming excitement into us. They were followed by the elite USAF troops who would perform all sorts of marvelous techniques with their rifles, such as preparing to fire, throwing them into the air, and making their commander walk through their ranks as they spun their rifles in a blur. Then came the PLA band, and their snap precision was incredible. It was as if they were robots, and they made our eyes dizzy as they positioned themselves into different patterns. I liked the Swiss band most of all, who drummed awesome rhythms, twirled their flags and threw them at their partners, and shot sparks in the very end. There were other all sorts of fascinating performances, but it would take ages to explain them all. The finale was the best, as all of the 8,900 performers marched into the arena and performed along fireworks and air force fly-over in the sky. The last song they played on their bagpipes stayed with me till I finally managed to go to sleep. It would be a waste of life not to go to the Military Tattoo.

The Tourist event of the year. If you’re a tourist you’ll absolutely love this so I cannot recommend it enough. However as a local I think it’s an amazing, enjoyable spectacle but severely overpriced for what it is. If your willing to pay the price for the decent seats in the main stand then I definitely would as the view from the other areas is not as good and can be severely cramped due to the compactly fitted seating crammed together to get as many in as possible. Due to the location it does not allow easy access/egress so be prepared to feel like cattle. I’d say the better showing is the later one and maybe later in the month so that the nights are darker which gives it added effect.

Went to the tattoo this evening. Was a long time since I'd been and went with my husband who had never seen it. It did not disappoint. The show was fantastic from start to finish. The various countries represented were brilliant. This year's theme was 100 years of the royal air force and even the dancers were themed in their costume and performance. We were very lucky with the weather as it was pouring down on arrival but stayed dry throughout the performance. The fireworks at the end were wonderful and the projections on to the castle throughout just added to the show. I would highly recommend this to all. It's a fantastic show wether you like marching bands or not you cannot fail to be impressed.

Do Not Miss This Spectacular Exhibition!!! This is a once in a lifetime experience you will never regret. So many countries participate. You get a round the world cultural experience in one evening. The uniforms and costumes are gorgeous. The precision of the marching bands and regiments is exquisite. The music is hauntingly beautiful. The castle, which is gorgeous just as it is, takes on an other worldly persona as the laser light show transforms it with each exhibition. Though the Tattoo itself varies from year to year, it never ever disappoints. The courtyard outside the castle is lined with comfortable bleachers that are tightly packed. The crowd is orderly and respectful. It can get nippy so check the weather and bring a sweater or coat. The famed Fringe Festival is going on outside the castle Gates and is bringing with entertainment. Street performers and scheduled shows abound. Tickets sell it very quickly so get in that as soon as possible. Bring your camera and your sense of wonder and be prepared to be amazed.

A Raincoat and water resistant pants are not enough to hold off the wet and cold when it rains for the entire 2 hrs!! Buy a rain poncho BEFORE you go to the Tattoo. Otherwise, pay twice as much for one as your would anywhere else in Edinburgh.

Vi hadde en fantastisk opplevelse av å være der og vi hadde ingen dårlig plassering, men SURT å se at 2 timer før forestilling står det 2 ledige plasser i den avdelingen jeg opprinnelig bestilt

Ja, wie soll man an eine solche Bewertung herangehen? In der Regel vermischen sich hier die Emotionen. Der Dudelsack ist ja nun schottisches Kulturgut und Schottland Fans gibt es zuhauf. Aber: das Military Tattoo ist gnadenlos kommerziell. Da kommt jetzt wieder der EVENT zum Vorschein und unsere Gesellschaften sind nun mal Event geil. Die Darsteller beim Tattoo sind in der Regel auch sehr gut. Aber wem nicht auffällt, dass er hier einem grossen Irrtum unterliegt, wenn er für sehr viel Geld ein Ticket kauft um sich dann auf der windigen Tribüne den Hintern abzufrieren und vorher mit unfassbaren menschlichen Massen durch die Stadt gequetscht wird, dem ist auch nicht mehr zu helfen. Ich liebe Schottland, würde aber Niemandem raten das Tattoo zu besuchen. Es ist alles nicht stimmig. (Translated) Yes, how should one approach such an assessment? As a rule, emotions mix here.
