Great to finally make it to the yard post covid and things have become more safe with social distancing and having numbers of kids in one session. Will still recommend anyone who has a disability and would like to use their free access spaces it’s worth the visit. Do call office before as they have restrictions for numbers in a day. My child loves the place.

I have been on 4 training courses at The Yard on better communication, disability awareness, inclusive play and behavioural challenges. All were great, practical and applicable, with knowledgeable practitioners and the opportunity to speak with other participants. Can't recommend them highly enough!

As a carer of children and young people with additional support needs I have found the yard to be a great place go. It is a good place to connect with other parents and carers who have children with ASN. It has trained staff to support activities and help your child feel safe and secure while exploring play and learning to play alongside others.
The young people I have taken to the Yard have all had positive experiences and have had regular return visits.
The facilities at the yard are excellent. The building is wheelchair accessible and it has zoned areas for different activities, high spec sensory room, art room, adapted kitchen, soft play and a large area for outdoor play.
Outdoors they have a large spacious play area with a climbing net, up to a fort, a 'bed swing' (I've seen many children in wheelchairs experience going on a swing, for the first time) there are bikes and trikes and a painted roadway with a proper pedestrian crossing, a river - which is regularly flowing bubbles, a glass dome, a sandpit, a sensory garden area for making music and much more. There are all sorts of facilities to encourage and develop sensory play within a safe environment.
During term time the yard is used through the day by young people with additional support needs from various schools. Some come to experience independent play in a safe environment, while other groups come with a specific topic in mind which their play activities are directed towards.
I think the staff at the yard are brilliant. I have found their knowledge and experience makes them invaluable to parents and carers visiting the yard.

Open to the public only on Sundays - a must visit for families with young kids! Support a great cause and enjoy one of the best indoor and outdoor parks we have used. The staff are friendly and so helpful with the children and the kids just love all the activities and play areas. Make sure you have a tea/coffee and cakes while you are there to donate more to help them help families whos lives are more difficult than our own.

I have a 2 boys aged 8 yrs and 4 yrs. My eldest has ASD ADHD and many more complex needs. The Yard is a wonderful place for all of the family to come along and enjoy a magical day. My son loves going to the yard as he is able to run around and burn off some of his energy without being looked upon as different. There is so many different things for the children to do they are never ever bored. Us as parents are able to sit and relax and have a HOT cup of tea and a chat with each other ( which doesn't happen very often in our busy lives ) or with other parents who are experiencing similar challenges to us on a daily basis.
The play workers are amazing with the kids and nothing seems to be to much trouble for them. They engage with all the children but it is done so at the child's pace.. We have a 127 mile round trip to get to the yard but every mile is worth it to see your children's faces happy and content. My youngest son loves it to and they seem to get on better together in this environment and perhaps it is because my eldest is so relaxed and happy.

The best adventure play centre for kids of all ages! Truly fantastic. Creative, playful and full of adventure and fun...just the way learning and playing should be :-) £6 for 2 hours was good value for money. The staff was friendly too.

I have been bringing my son for years to the yard, its a great, safe environment for the kids and a good place for parents to meet, chat and have a cuppa.
All the staff are well trained and absolutley wonderful with the kids. Theres lots to do there for the kids, indoors and outdoors, my son and I would be lost without the place. We both look forward to many more years there.
Its a magical place, nowhere else quite like it.

The best place for toddlers in the heart of Edinburgh. It's a great pleasure to support the charity as it contributes so much to our community. Thanks a million. We'll be back

As a parent of a 9 yr old with ADHD and ASD I can't praise the staff at the Yard enough. We've benefited so much from coming here, getting out and socialising with other parents and carers, feeling part of a community.

The Yard is a fantastic place! It's open for members and their families mid-week in the holidays and Friday and Saturday afternoons every week, and for everyone on Sunday afternoons.

Went along to the Yard on Sunday - i have been a few times before but forget how brilliant it is, really so much to do great outdoor toys - bikes scooters, sand water, mudkitchen, teepee, swings, bubbles, working traffic lights, amazing cakes baked by volunteers, never even got a chance to go indoors as kids had so much fun - indoors their is sensory play, lego, soft play, piano, painting, dressing up, reading corner - staff are just fantastic - both kids cried all the way home because we had to leave haha - will be back again ;)
