Hidden Gem in the City centre of Peterborough !
A fascinating garden run by beautiful souls. The warm welcome, made my day. Friendly lovely staff all around the premises. Well maintained. We spent nearly 2 hours and yy children enjoyed every minute if it. The model trains indoor was super. Got to know the outdoor one is closed for refurbishing. Loved the wildlife, which includes frogs, birds and insects. Small waterfalls and perfectly located seating areas.
What a Day we had. Recommend to all families.
Hats off for the volunteers who are wotking really hard to keep this gem shining. ❤️🙏

The staff were lovely, the Miniature Railway and especially the Thomas & friends bit that the kids could operate, were fantastic, but sadly the Garden Modell Train Yard was (still) being refurbished, which we did not know about even though we had looked at the website (it's apparently on the news page, but further back in the year).
The price for us as a family was totally acceptable (but in view of a major draw for the place not being available, could maybe be adjusted a bit) and parking is free (or £3 if you just want to park to visit the town)

Brilliant fun. We only went for a couple of hours but my 2 year old couldn't have had more fun! The model railway was interactive where children (and adults) were encouraged to have a play with the trains. Particularly popular as the interactive part was Thomas the tank engine! Lovely walks and of course the steam train on the Nene Valley railway comes in here too. It was great fun.
It isn't huge - we spent a couple of hours there but when you remember it is run by volunteers then it's a lovely little visit. Admittedly we were lucky with good weather!

Have given this 5 stars as it is impressive what Railworld Haven have achieved, especially the 'buy in' they have from volunteers which is really admirable. You can also see the potential in the place for any future developments they might pursue.
We visited and got a family ticket, we hadn't really planned to come we popped into Peterborough for a break on a long trip home. Family ticket cost £10, and my son was very happy just to sit and watch the outdoor model railway track for 15 /20 mins...! Eventually we popped over the bridge and watched the mainline from the observation area, popped into the model railway shed and did some reading up in the eco building before taking a stroll round the wildlife haven area.
Now the place is not massive and a trip here is unlikely to take all day - I think we were 2 hours in the end. My kids are young and more than happy watching / waving to the trains...!
As an added bonus we had parked in their car park (it's very big!) and the lady who gave us the admit ticket said we could park as long as we wanted, and it's not far from the town centre... public car parks are easily going to cost a few quid so it really does make the ticket cost quite reasonable.
I guess if you really don't like trains your not going to get as much out of a visit as we did, but if you do (or at least your kids do) then your onto a winner!!

So happy to have been able to re-visit this little gem of oasis so close to home.
The volunteers have strived to rise above repeated break ins and to make the space even better with their continued hard work.
My daughter who has visited before and her friend who hasn't, enjoyed the freedom of exploring all the little paths whilst us adults enjoyed sitting in the sunshine and visiting the stalls, winning a fab prize on the tombola. The girls also explored all the little games set up and kept challenging themselves on the bike in the visitors centre. We admired the flowers and saw one I wish to add to my collection. Also happy to bump into a friend and his 2 children, visiting on his lunch hour. If you haven't yet visited then it's well worth it. Family ticket is a great buy and even without that the prices are great value
Thank you again to you all, can't wait to see the extended new train track when it's up and running. It will be more than worth the wait.

Gem of a place run by volunteers. We need to keep places like this going!
Lovely walk around the nature garden then the Model railway room is a must visit for model enthusiasts. They are currently working on the garden railway but it's shaping up nicely and can't wait to return in the summer when it's complete.
Also some great places to watch trains! Grab a coffee from the cafe and chill while watching them pass.

On first impression, there looks to still be some work to do (which as an ongoing project it probably does!), but as we explored we found a beautiful wildlife area and model trains, which had obviously benefited from lots of TLC. Such a fantastic project, and at only a few £'s each, this was well worth the money for a couple of hours. Added benefit was the proximity to the train line, on which many trains passed during our time there! We had an 8 year old, 5 year old and 4 year old with us, and they all loved it. Could have spent longer there, but we were visiting en route, so needed to get back on the road! Thank you to the volunteers for your hard work in providing this for the enjoyment of others.

So far very good , kids love it we're able to run around, people on site very nice and love what they do, be even better when they get a train working so kids can get on. Good luck. Will go again.

A really lovely and charming gem of a place. £10 for a family ticket, bring a picnic and spend all day here. Ideal for 0-6; there's little model railways to play with, huge old locomotives to wonder at and a beautiful wildlife area with bee hives, grape vines and even a little waterfall. The staff are all voluenteers and are more than happy to share their love of trains and wildlife with you if you just ask and more than happy for you children to run free in the wildlife area. The place isn't all singing and all dancing; it's quaint, peaceful and full of charm. I've said 0-6 as in my experience kids older than that start to expect more but a train enthusiast of any age will love this place.
O. S.
We enjoyed a walk around the garden a look at the miniature railway, it’s so peaceful and interesting to see the engineering, we were very impressed at the hovertrain. Good to help a charity too
H. A.
This place is the literal meaning of a hidden treasure/gem
Absolutely great for kids
Even enjoyable for an adult
How is it hidden? Well, to get here you have to follow a side road through a dodgy looking tunnel to the car park.
H. L.
Good place to visit after the train ride, not as much to do as the leaflets show but good for younger children. Some areas being upgraded
K. B.
This is a must and shouldn't be overlooked. There is some very interesting facts laying around on this site. The Hovertrain I found interesting with all its original hover pads and exterior electric pick up inputs still clearly visible. There is a original turntable pit for old steam engines still clearly visible here along with an original Maglev people shuttle from Birmingham airport. On the other side of river via connecting bridge is wild life center for children to explore. Amazing place for all.

this was an excellant day out. we had a great guide called brian who was very passionate about the work they have done there over the years and how it has evolved. all the people are volenteres and the do a sterling job. unfortunatley this place has been broken into and trashed again by mindless thugs. its disgusting to treat people and property this way. it has now been closed untill further notice. i do hope they can get back on thier feet again as it is a wonderful place to have on our doorstep.
N. P.
Lovely place for kids to spend a sunny day. With a small wildlife haven. Good for a picnic and teaching your juds about nature and a quiet place to relax.
J. H.
Visited here today whilst on a trip on the Nene Valley Railway. What a lovely little unexpected added extra to our day. The site is much bigger than you might expect when you first step off the train. There is a lovely collection of local railway history related items, and a number of little model railways (beautifully built and maintained). The wildlife haven has been carefully designed to provide a wealth of habitats for a variety of species. There is also evidence that growth and development of the site is constantly ongoing. I would particularly like to thank Becky who served us in the shop and went out of her way to provide us with extra information on everything! She was super friendly, professional and clearly passionate about what she does there. I will definitely return and recommend this place to others.
C. L.
A beautiful gem to experience. Outstanding conservation made possible by the team of volunteers.
D. S.
Reasonable price.
Calm and nice plase to visit.
Some Activities for kids.
S. J.
Relaxing spot to enjoy a sit down and a cuppa from the cafe (only £1.30) the staff are friendly and informative, a popular spot for families to explore the wildlife garden and chill out. Located adjacent to the Nene Valley Railway station and about a 15 min walk from Peterborough town centre. There is a car park at railworld or walk here via the river tow path which is scenic.
A. S.
Lovely place to volunteer and visit, staff are great and there's plenty to see for the kids, train sets, train museum, plants wildlife all over, bridges and nice short walks, probably somewhere to visit once or twice but if your volunteer then you can enjoy it everytime.
P. E.
The haven stretches across the river and is a diverse range of habitat. All the exhibits are well presented from old steam engines, freight cars, interactive working model trains ,gardens and viewing areas.A superb place for all ages to visit with easy walks and things to see.must go more than once
W.
A lovely stop on the Nene Valley Railway 🛤 journey to Peterborough. Well worth getting off for en route.
J. T.
We have lived right next to here for the past 5 years and have never come until last week! I really regret not coming soon as it is such a lovely place! All the people working here were all super helpful and welcoming too! Lots for the kids to look at and the wildlife bit was a hit for all of us!
L. T.
I visited Railworld today with my mum and toddler. It was delightful!! The staff were friendly, helpful and informative and they obviously enjoyed working there. It’s worth noting here that they are all volunteers and have transformed the area from a wasteland into a little oasis.
My son ‘didn’t ever want to leave’ and would have played with the trains all day. We all enjoyed a lovely afternoon and will definitely be coming back!!
L. R.
Not as much to see as our last visit but still an enjoyable afternoon out
R. M.
Visited for the free train to Peterborough celebrates.. Great service thanks
S. W.
Had a wonderful time at lovely Railworld! Beautiful outdoors space and great fun indoor model railway.
s. r.
What a find! We took our 3 year old last Saturday and we were as delighted as he was with this magical treasure. Outstanding. Wonderful nature trails, old locomotives (including a massive steam engine) and of course the superb model railways. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers.
D. C.
Small charity run model rail and gardens/wildlife area .
Currently having some work done on model rail
R. C.
This is the place we found when looking for a place to stop mid a long journey. Now we travel from Kent just to visit it. We tell everyone we know to visit if they can. Such a beautiful well kept place with lovely staff doesnt say enough. The trains are everywhere and so well kept. From the garden railway which amuses you with trains swapping in tunnels to the model railway you can operate or watch on the large track. Not to mention the view of Nene Valley railway and mainline train services. My favourite part is the nature reserve with its tunnels and bridges and always things to look out for. We have even been here for the planned nature trails or Easter hunts. A very inspiring place and we wish we lived closer. Thank you for making such a lovely friendly space
H. M.
Had a fantastic day here today, the the wildlife haven was beautiful and we loved how they had incorporated the train memorabilia into it. My train mad son loved spotting the aquaducts and other pieces in the haven! The educational centre was great, we had fun working out the different bugs and drawing his favourite train. The model trains were fab and we liked the fact it wasn't just steam locos.
The fact that it's next to the main Peterborough line (with viewing platforms) makes it easy to get to and a real bonus for train enthusiasts!
Great value for money, friendly staff/volunteers and easy to get to... what more can you ask for!
Definitely worth a visit!

Took our 3 children (2,8 and 9) for the first time yesterday and had a brilliant day. The miniature railway as we first got there was brilliant. Then over the bridge it was fantastic. Couldn't believe somewhere so pretty was in the middle of the centre of peterborough, completely started from scratch by clearly passionate and dedicated volunteers. Beautiful to walk round. The miniature train cabin was very good and the kids did some colouring. The train observation deck and being waved at by the train drivers was a highlight for my 9yo train enthusiast. Brian the lead volunteer was kind enough to talk us through how parts were built, where the bridges came from and how it was all started which was fascinating. For only £10 the kids had a wonderful time and we will definitely be visiting again.
E. G.
RailWorld is relatively small, you might have imagined something more when you read 'world' but it is such a sweet place to visit. Entirely run by volunteers and enthusiasts, the very reasonable price to get in makes it well worth a visit. If trains aren't your thing you might not spend more than an hour here, but if they are, or you have children and bring a picnic you can easily while away a few hours. In fact beware there may be tears when it's time to leave. In summary, model railways to watch, real trains to spot, a picnic area, basic snack and drinks stall and some lovely winding paths around the wildlife haven.
M. S.
I have taken my two boys here numerous times and they have loved it each time, especially the outdoor model trains! The volunteers have put a huge amount of effort and dedication in to making this a great place to visit, whether that is for the trains or the wildlife heaven. Thank you, we will be back soon!
R. M.
This place is Brilliant if you consider everything was made by volunteers! When visiting, one needs to bear in mind that the objective of the Wildlife Haven is to recreate a natural habitat for native species, and not to look like a garden. It does look beautiful because it is very natural and perfect for the wildlife. I saw some unique items from the railways history. The little models are so nice and kids just love to interact and play with them. I was very impressed by the Huge Pacific Steam Locomotive parked there under restoration. It was quite fun to be able to see all its details... It's good fun for all the family!

Excellent place to visit. We have taken all of grandchildren many times and they absolutely love it. The model railway layout is one of the best in the UK with up to 6 or 7 trains running at the same time. The grandchildren started going to Railworld about 4 years ago and like to visit every time they stay with us. They are now 6 to 9 years old.
There is also a lovely outdoor layout which they also enjoy plus a room with films of steam engines taken locally over many years. These run continuously plus drawing and colouring activities to do.
A walk around the wildlife garden is a must.
I would thoroughly recommend visiting Railworld to anyone who has young grandchildren and to anyone young or old who loves model railway layouts.

Fantastic Place to Visit. We took our Grandson & Granddaughter there and spent 4 hours going round the model trains and having a picnic. The staff were lovely and our Grandson cried when we had to leave! Great value, £10 for a family ticket!
P. L.
For anyone who likes trains and nature, this place is brilliant. There are trains visible that are on the mainline to Peterborough, there are trains arriving and departing on the Nene Valley Railway, and there are model trains both inside and outside.
There are also beautiful areas with waterfalls and beautiful flowers and shrubs. There is so much to see and do.
A family ticket is £10 for 2adults and up to 3 children. Apart from drinks and sweets, ice creams, there is nothing else to pay for. There isn't a gift shop to tempt the kids.
Take a picnic and have a great day out.
E. F.
Husband and I visited Railworld Wildlife Haven with our great grandson.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and our great grandson loved it . Thank you to all the volunteers who work so hard creating it. Still work in progress but
didn't stop us enjoying the visit.
J. R.
I take my 2 year old son here at least once a month. He loves watching the various model trains going around as well as getting up close to the full size steam locomotives. There's a viewing area to watch the real life trains going past too, plus some lovely picnic areas in the nature reserve.
a. a.
Highly recommended great place to relax and get into trains as well!
E. R.
The grandchildren enjoyed this although I think they could do more to enhance the experience. Model railway good and small wildlife walk appropriate for young children but may be lacking for over 6's. Take a picnic!

Museum is not exactly a word I will use to describe this place. It has few trains, a nice wildlife garden with loads of paths to go around, a shed with few changing exhibition, and a hut with model railway. But most of the things looks quite dated and in disrepair. But it's volunteer run and only £4 entrance fee. Would recommend to visit the garden with kids, and to see the only place in UK where you can see 2 maglev trains, albeit very rusty.
O. C.
It's amazing how volunteers created this wonderful museum and wildlife reserve where there used to be wasteland. I'm feeling very inspired and grateful, and my toddler loved the model railway and everything Thomas-related
R. O.
Fantastic experience .... Not been since I was a kid, so it was great to see how it's changed. The wildlife section was amazing, the volunteers have done a great job and deserve the utmost respect.
I will definitely be coming back and it's definitely worth the money. Thanks again for a great experience 👍
L. A.
We have to try and drag my nephew away from here. He absolutely loves it. There's so many lovely little elements to it, and the wildlife focus means the adults get to enjoy it too!
E. I.
Lovely place to spend a few hours. Nice model trains inside and out. Some great photos of Peterborough in the past. Wildlife havan is a marvellous little oasis of calm to chill in the city. Also ideal for parking the car and taking a pleasant 10 minute stroll next to the river nene into the city centre.
Respect to the volunteers who put in all the hard work to make something like this possible. See you again soon!
M. D.
Friendly chap being the teller of the story from way back At nene halt

Railworld is a delightful little haven in the middle of Peterborough. And so much more than just 'rail' world. A large part of it is a wonderful garden full of flowers, fruit trees and more. We were there on a rather wet day, and, although it was still lovely, I bet it'd be fantastic on a sunny day, buzzing with bees, butterflies and so on...
S. A.
I simply cannot believe this place exists so close to the centre of Peterborough. It is literally behind ASDA in town, just walk across the footbridge over the river Nene and you are there. Nature at its best, a wonderful place to relax and enjoy with so much to see and do. Congratulations and thanks to the volunteers who keep this project alive.
H. H.
A lovely little haven in the middle of Peterborough...kids love it...plenty of space for make believe games...lots of picnic benches...run by volunteers who do an amazing job. Family ticket £10 great value entry 2 adults 3 kids.

Nice to see all the trains. Decent facilities and a nice ride on their heritage steam train.
D. W.
Wow. I expected little and received a lot. A delightful haven of nature in the midst of an ever busying city. The staff were fantastic, all volunteers, and the model trains kept my sons amused for ages. We can't wait to go back again.
D. B.
A lovely relaxing place to go and have a picnic with the family. The model railway was worth the £10 enterance fee alone for 5 of us which includes car parking in the city centre! Walking around the wildlife haven with the 🐦Birds singing and the bees 🐝 busy and looking over the river as I ate my sandwiches was a great experience. The wasteland has been transformed by voulenteers and I would recommend people to go and visit this gem for themselves !
S. D.
Great small place run by volunteers brilliant on what they do
S. T.
We have been a few times, my kids love it. 8 year old loves the trains and my 5 year old enjoys the nature walk. Friendly volunteers, small refreshment cafe, lots to do and it's cheap!. Family of four is approx £10
H. S.
It's an absolutely brilliant place to go for the day. You have live steam engines going in and out of the premises on almost every hour. The model railway is brilliant and being able to see real trains going in and out of Peterborough train station is brilliant aswell. Anyone who's got a camera or a phone can take some brilliant photos of the real trains and the model railway.
T. S.
This place offers what few venues do: a charming nook at the heart of Peterborough, nature's best, the essence of the railway industry, a miniature railway track, educational spaces, and a walking opportunity. It's fun for children and adults alike. Grab your loved ones, clear 3-4 hours and enjoy.
T. T.
Great place! All of us thoroughly enjoyed it. The team are fantastic and always willing to help or even just have a five minute chat.
c. y.
Great place . lots to do and good price
b.
Close to city centre (about 15 minutes walk). Very pretty gardens and lots of picnic areas/tables. There are buttons to press on the train displays and toy train tables to play at. Check opening times/days before you go. They sell drinks and snacks as you go in.l
O. S.
Thoroughly pleasant, peaceful afternoon spent in the nature reserve. It reflects the commitment and dedication of the volunteers.
Thoroughly recommend for whiling away a few hours

Absolutey amazing hidden gem, would highly recommend this to any family. Really good choice of trains for young and old, also a beautiful nature area to walk and relax in
O. W. G.
An amazing day out in Peterborough! We all enjoyed our visit to the Railworld Wildlife Haven and spent alot of the day here. 5 Stars for the volunteers aswell.
B. P.
For a group of volunteers, they have done amazing things with an old power station coal yard on the Railworld site north of the River Nene - Access by the NVR Station - They have raised all their own funds and embarked on a habitat creation programme and created a wildlife haven with streams, waterfalls and an abundance of native plants, animals and creepy crawlies!
There is also a massive OO Gauge Model Railway about 10M x 5M - It's incredible! - I heard one youngster announce - He did not want to go home - He wanted to live there! There is also a small OO Gauge Model Railway for the youngsters to operate! And a big Garden Railway - At 50P a go!
OK maybe they lack in core funding - But they certainly make you welcome and at £4 for adults, £3 Concessions and Children £1 - It's certainly worth a look! + You get £1.00 off adults! If you show your Nene Valley Railway tickets! Pick a nice day - Take a picnic and Enjoy!
M. T.
A great day out for all the family. Grandparents, parents and children all enjoyed themselves. You can see how much effort the team have put in from looking at historical photos. Congratulations to you all

(Translated) A small natural place where there are many mechanical wonders. A great place for a short escape from everyday problems. It will be interesting for both children and adults. Model trains in combination with a small fleet are supported by volunteers. The park has many secluded and cozy places with benches and picnic tables. You can watch birds and small animals. There is a cafe. In the exhibition halls, among other things, you can see different models of trains, a whole mini-city with an operating railway, and even drive paravozs yourself.
