Awesome place to train! Huge variety of different levels to learn from and improve your game. The gym has just been upgraded to a much larger space with plenty of room to roll, in a lovely location. Dan is an elite coach with consistently excellent classes. A friendly disposition made me feel right at home from the moment i joined. Great environment to learn and challenge yourself in! 👊 Would highly recommend!!

I joined Maven BJJ in April 2021 having never done anything even remotely similar to this sport. Before my first session I was a bundle of nerves, you may be putting off trying it out for the very same reason. If that sounds like you, please read on.
I joined as a way of getting fit and to learn how to look after myself in a self defence situation but Maven BJJ has really given me so much more.
There's a real sense of community and challenge that my life was lacking. The instructors and your training partners are so incredibly friendly and helpful, ego gets left at the door and it's all about learning and improving, together.
There's not many places I know of that for £65 a month (adult membership) you have access to so many hours of training, think there's about 14 odd beginner and no gi sessions a week.
All classes involve some form of warm up, being shown and drilling a technique with a training partner and if there's time at the end of session, you roll with your training partners to put into practice what you've learnt.
There's multiple instructors, all with different styles of teaching, some focus more on mobility and yoga whilst others are more focused on "building the tank" with heavy cardio or lots of technique drills, so you're really getting an opportunity to learn a wide range of skills from people who really have a passion for helping you be your best.
Also, I never thought it'd be possible to put somebody in a submission only to be complimented by them on how well you submitted them!
Most evenings I drive home physically exhausted, clothes drenched in sweat, but smiling ear to ear!

I started at Maven just six months ago and I can certainty say that it changed my life. I found more confidence in myself, I learnt a lot of self-defence techniques, but most importantly I found a new accepting community and a lot of new friends.
Being a girl and thinking of starting martial art can be frightening but believe me when I say it, it is the best thing you can do for yourself! All coaches in Maven work extremely hard to make this club very inclusive- there are always large amounts of people in the class you can drill your techniques with and there is a ladies training session on Saturday mornings too! At no point you are rushed, and you can progress at your own pace. When you are in the class you feel like you are a part of a big family- there is endless support from coaches and fellow trainees!
It is great to see that whole families join Maven-there is a spot for everyone: they have classes for young kids, juniors, and adults at various levels. You don’t need to be fit or know what you are doing-you will learn everything you need in the class, just give it a go!
Structure of each class is very well-rounded: There is a warmup where we get to stretch and build a bit of endurance and strength and then there is a technique part where each session, we learn a new movement. We then finish off the class with few rounds of rolling with training partners.
If you are considering starting Brazilian jiujitsu, come along to one of the intro sessions, you will not regret it!

I started BJJ in 2018 and always trained at the same place, so when I moved house and needed to move gym I was worried I wouldn’t find somewhere I liked. After trying out several different gyms I joined Maven at the end of 2021. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better gym to train at. The coaching is of a really high level and there’s a clear effort in helping everyone improve, rather than just to “teach a technique” and that’s it. Coaches are very friendly, approachable and always happy to help even after classes have finished. There’s a sense of community with everyone who trains here, which is really nice to be a part of. Classes run during morning, afternoon and evening- which means anyone can make it to training regardless of work schedules. There are classes for both Beginners and Advanced, so all levels are welcome regardless of ability. I always try to persuade my friends to join, so if you need a place to start training at, this is where to go!

I started at Maven around 6 months ago, and don't have a bad word to say about it. The coaches are friendly and helpful, there are plenty of classes to suit anyone's schedule, and the space is extremely well kept and tidy. Overall an easy 10/10, massive thanks to Dan and all the other coaches.

Both me an my 12 year old son started Jiu Jitsu in Maven BJJ in a couple of months ago and we are exceptionally happy we found that gym. It always has a great positive atmosphere and is full of convenient time slots to train for any and all levels of the Martial art practitioners. High class premises, hight class coaching and great learning environment in all aspects. We both love it!

Fantastic BJJ gym. The space is stunning, welcoming environment and lots of options with classes. I am enjoying the clubs' approach to training, where positions and moves are taught with full respect to the fundamentals of control and awareness. If you are new or seasoned, this gym is well worth a visit.

Maven is a fantastic BJJ academy with excellent experienced coaches, clean, spacious facilities and an amazing atmosphere!
The club members are all welcoming and friendly, from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels of experience. Whether you are looking to get into BJJ to get fit, learn some self-defence, compete… there will be a like-minded group here. Everyone is easy to get on with and the club has a great atmosphere at all times! Egos are left at the door and everyone is respectful to one another regardless of age, experience or ability.
The coaches are excellent! With 2 Black belt and 2 Brown belt coaches their experience and abilities are top-tier, but they also all have a true ability to teach, to break down techniques and explain the often complex positions to the individual’s level and understanding. Each coach has their own style of BJJ and areas of expertise and so its great to get a real variety of techniques and philosophies to build your own game.
If you are considering BJJ at all I would highly recommend that you attend an intro session to experience it for yourself!

Great martial arts club. My two boys (12 & 13) love to go there and it is one of the very few activities that has held their interest over the years. The club is really welcoming and inclusive and the standard of instruction is very high. The facilities are first class and easy to access. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

My son and daughter have been at Maven for 2 years and are absolutely thrilled to be there. Dan is an amazing coach he offers detailed instruction to the kids in a friendly and encouraging manner. The classes are structured and keep the kids engaged. Overall I would say that the environment is very positive and nurturing for kids and I would highly recommend it to anyone without reservation.

Great club! My partner is brand new to BJJ and i’ve had a 7+ year hiatus. The coaches are amazing; Both with their knowledge and teaching skills, but also with how friendly and welcoming they make the club! I couldn’t recommend a better club to anyone whether you’re a new joiner or an old hand looking for local training! 👍🏼

I’m a complete beginner to BJJ, and this has been a very welcoming gym to walk into.
Absolutely great coaches and really friendly people to train with.
Great atmosphere and would highly recommend to anyone interested in trying out the sport.

Great club with skilled yet friendly instructors always willing to help even the most flexibility-challenged. Gutted to be moving away as will miss the sweaty cuddle sessions BJJ-ers call rolling.
A really good place for ladies and beginners, which is not something I say lightly.
My children enjoyed the sessions too!
Huge thanks to Dan, Andrew, Dean, Kam and all the rest of the lovely gents and ladies at Maven.

Fantastic place to train, for beginners just starting out to experienced competitors. Everyone Is very welcoming and always willing to help. Maven has a very friendly, experienced and knowledgeable coaching team. Amazing new premises and a brilliant atmosphere, highly recommended!

Really friendly and welcoming classes. Dan, Andy and Dean are excellent teachers as well as being really patient when you start which is a massive plus. Really good vibe between all the members so its always an enjoyable experience to train there. Lastly, it's actually really good value especially considering the prices of some other BJJ schools as well as the fact there are classes 6 days per week. Definitely recommended!
S. W.
Brilliant atmosphere, both my husband and daughter train here and have a great time. All the trainers are friendly and experienced. The students with higher belts take time out to support those less experienced. We would definitely recommend.

Fantastic jiu jitsu club that have recently relocated to new state of the art facilities. My two boys - age 11 & 9 have been going their twice a week for the past couple of years and really enjoy it. Dan and the rest of the team are amazing with the children and the boys have learnt so much. If you're looking to get your children into jiu jitsu, I have no hesitation in recommending Dan and Maven Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Dan and the team at Maven BJJ are first-class. The friendliest group of people in a sport that is at first very daunting, everyone makes you feel at home and helps you along the way. Dan, Andy and Dean are very patient, knowledgeable instructors and help you develop with nothing but help and guidance no matter how many questions you may have. Maven is fantastic club for every level, no matter what level you are. Cannot recommend enough!

My kids have been training at Maven for about a year, and they have loved every minute of it! Dan is a fantastic instructor, and the kids classes are friendly but engaging with a strong emphasis on reinforcing the techniques. I would highly recommend Maven BJJ! 5 stars!
L.
Maven BJJ has a really good team atmosphere with zero drama, just a great team of people sharing the common goal of improving their lives through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Dan's no-rubbish approach to coaching and the team spirit fosters a learning environment for both kids and adults classes that is A class. Great clean venue with toilet facilities and loads of free parking. 10/10.

Maven Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is Awesome!!
Not just a place to get fit, learn a new skill and discipline but also be apart of a great community.
Dan is a fantastic teacher, he always makes the time for everyone in the class and make sure you understand and do things the right way, the rest of the guys are great as well always trying help you with your progression.
It’s always a pleasure going to class and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Maven is amazing! Just walk through the doors...If your plan is to learn jiujitsu and get competing, the instructors here will make that happen. If it's for fitness, for fun or for weight loss, they'll 100% guide you with that too, they put so much effort into you at Maven. This place has something for everybody! The kids classes are also incredible, friendly kids and friendly instructors, it's practically guaranteed to make any kid more confident and have a load of fun while doing it.

I’ve been at Maven for nearly a year now and can honestly say I haven’t found a club that can rival it. With a great team environment paired alongside Dan’s great teaching I was immediately made to feel right at home. So if your new to the sport or looking for a new place to train I couldn’t recommend anywhere better than Maven.
L. T.
Fantastic BJJ club. Dan is an excellent head coach and competitor and is very well supported by Andy and Dean. All the coaches passionate about Jiu Jitsu and this really comes through in their teaching.
Most importantly Dan has created the perfect, friendly atmosphere to train BJJ. The club has people of all different ages and backgrounds and couldn't be more welcoming. Highly recommend to anyone that wants to get fit and have a lot of fun!
I. B.
Really great BJJ club with friendly atmosphere. Classes are taught by quality instructors. Well priced membership scheme, free parking. Classes on most nights of the week. One of the best decision I made wish I had done it earlier ! 🤙
J. S.
I've been training here now since the end of 2016. Dan and the other instructors put you at ease and make you welcome right from the first lesson, whether you have trained before or are a total newcomer.
This open and warm atmosphere is echoed by the students, who were also very welcoming. The quality of instruction is excellent and you are encouraged to hone existing skills whilst expanding your repertoire of techniques at every session.
There is no pressure exerted to make students compete, but if you decide to, then you get excellent support from the whole team and expert advice and preparation from the instructors.
The availability of training times means that you can attend as much or as little as you want, and fit it around your life, which means that I have always been able to get to a session even in the busiest of weeks.
All in all, I can whole heartedley recommend Maven to anyone interested in BJJ.
J. S.
Great academy, Great atmosphere and most of all great teachers! highly recommend.

One of the friendliest and hardest working gyms I've been to. Everyone is there for the love of Jiu Jitsu and encourages everyone who comes through the door to get better. I would recommend Maven to anyone who wants a open and honest place to learn without any of the ego that can follow such a competitive sport. See you on the mats!
B. L.
I was a little bit apprehensive at first as a female joining a predominately male club but the guys are all really welcoming and quickly felt like I was part of the Maven family. It’s great to train with people that are genuinely interested in helping you improve.
It’s definitely challenging and you have good days and bad days but the bad days are what keep you coming back!
Can’t recommend this place enough, great teaching and friendly faces.
M. &.
an excellent club where you leave your ego at the door and roll with some great guys and girls. Despite BJJ being challenging at the best of times, the Maven club make it fun! Great coaches and overall I just cant fault the place. We roll as individuals but train as a team.
J. T.
Fantastic training provided here by brilliant & talented instructors. If it’s for fitness or for the martial art itself; Dan, Andy & Dean deliver techniques at a pace suitable for everyone and offer classes to fit all levels. The warmups alone are enough to match any type of circuit training. All surrounded in a friendly atmosphere; particularly recommend the Sunday session if you want a killer ab workout to start the week!
J.
From the moment you walk in you feel more than welcome. I’ve never done a contact sport other than bjj and I’m so lucky that Maven was my first try. Everyone wants to help you get better and Dan is more than a coach, you feel empowered everytime you step on the mats. My favourite place to be. Join you won’t regret it!
A. C.
I highly recommend Maven BJJ. I left a rival club In order to train under Dan and his team. Not only is the instruction second to none but all members of Maven are extremely welcoming and you become a part of the family instantly. Definite 5* from me!
C. L.
I started to train BJJ when I was almost 39 years old. It was a difficult decision to make due several factors including my age, family time and work. I was completely tired of the GYM and running became a problem due a knee injury.
I joined Maven in December 2015 and met with an incredible group of talented martial artists. What I though was going to be a group of younger and far more athletic people mopping the floor with the middle age guy became a group of friends trying to take me to their level, simply trying to make me as good as they are.
The background diversity of the people who train at Maven BJJ is awesome as well, you will see people working in Gardening, Construction, IT, HR, Marketing or PT coming from each corner of the planet. Here is where you can see that the mats have an incredible equalizer and unifier power.
41 I am now, almost 3 years into what has become an important part of my life and a very healthy routine. I have achieved my best body fat percentage, heart rate and blood pressure indicators ever. Contradictorily, I am saving money as I am not visiting the pub as much as I used to do it, which translated in money savings and more time with my wife and daughter.
I will invite anyone to put the paradigm of age aside and join this great place to get fit and healthy with great instructors and a very friendly atmosphere.

Couldn't ask for a better club; everyone trains hard, is respectful and there to learn, have fun and better themselves!
From the moment I walked in I felt welcomed, I'd recommend this club to beginners and bjj veterans alike.

Fitting in as an expat can be challenging no doubt, but not at Maven BJJ! This club's welcoming and friendly environment makes me feel just as being at home plus you get the feeling of belonging somewhere. The guys and girls are all there to help you to improve your game and what's the most important to enjoy jiu jitsu!
R. M.
awesome gym with an awesome and enthusiastic head coach dan. Also supported fantastically by 2 other coaches dean and Andrew all do a fantastic job of teaching the very complex art of jiu jitsu. Not your "traditional" martial arts gym where you may feel intimidated to walk into. Youl be welcomed by a smile every time and then put through your paces. Every time I go I have fun, get tested and leave feeling like I have learnt something. (Also slightly broken on occasion lol) will be one of the best things you do this year, and with a 2 week free trial nothing to loose!
A. L.
It's a real privilege to be a part of this friendly, welcoming and talented academy. I have been an instructor at maven for a couple of years now and I am proud of all of the students who train with us and am unbelievably lucky to have Dan Geoghegan as my coach and mentor.

Probably the best decision I made in 2016 was to join maven . The friendliest club where you feel like part of a family. Nothing feels better then learning a new move and being able to use it successfully. All thanks to an amazing teacher dan . I highly recommend this place for everyone .
D. N.
One of the best clubs I've trained at very welcoming and not made to feel uncomfortable by egos or hierarchy.
Dan's teaching is to the point and is always happy to explain further and to get the best out of you

Came on board as a complete beginner a week or so ago, I am now hooked. The instructors and current members go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at ease. Feel as though I’ve learned so much already. I am very lucky to have this place near to me. Would happily rate this place 10 out of 10 ...
