J. M.Stayed for 2 night whilst working in Edinburgh. Nice clean room, good selection for evening meals. Good breakfast selection. Excellent staff who are very professional, cheerful and helpful. Special mention to the night ported Damien. Would definitely use again. Only slight negative was noise from next doors guest.

m. j.Nice hotel very close to the university of Durham so very handy if you are dropping off members of your family that are doing a course at the university.staff were lovely and breakfast was ok .the rooms don't come with an iron or ironing board so apart from that Avery nice hotel.

R. M. G.We really enjoyed staying here on our visit to Durham. The hotel is just outside Durham but there is a bus stop directly across the street that takes you into the centre in 10 minutes. You are also not that far from the park and ride, so if you have a car you can drive 5 mins down the road and get the bus, which are every 15 mins
There is loads of parking space for customer. The rooms are kept clean and in good condition with some nice touches of modern furniture.
The best thing is the staff, service, and bar/restaurant. We were made to feel right at home. We sat and watched the Olympics and got a great service. Really good trip.

R.Stopped here quite a bit lately, the main thing that makes this place is the staff, they are very friendly and always on hand to help, the food is excellent and fairly priced, Stephen the guy on reception works more hours than the clock but always has a friendly smile on his face, must mention the restaurant manager and the girls who waited the food all first class service, the rooms are a bit tired but comfortable and clean, we look forward to staying again soon.

a. t.Wantedt to try the honest lawyer for a while and then I did. We went just after lockdown was lifted but understandably there was still a reduced menu. Food was delicious and was garnished to a average standard. All courses were a good size portion. The only negative really was the dining area was cold.
But overall a good experience.

M. N.First time here after passing all my life and wasnt, disappointed, Sunday lunch was fantastic, its priced higher than others in the area but it reflects in the quality of food. Only one small criticism the Yorkshire pudding was rather bland and dry other than that. The place is clean and well spaced from other tables.

j. b.Came here a couple of years ago for their new years eve do which was great - fabulous buffet, disco and casino night. Today just meal! Enjoyable and not too busy. Large car park and plenty different areas inside. Service can be a little slow. If you do stay overnight rooms in courtyard are good , clean and comfy.

However when I ate here recently although the menu was very appealing when my partner and I ordered food it was reasonably presented but overall both meals were very disappointing, the lamb kofte was in short appalling, very tough and poorly seasoned with little flavour.

Easy access to Durham is key and a taxi is only a few pounds. Having said that the food in the adjoining pub is great. One of the best burgers I have had in a long while. The building is chique and the staff happy.

R. W.I stayed here with my husband to attend a wedding nearby. We enjoyed our stay and the breakfast was very good. The only downside was the walls were a little thin so we could hear the guest in the room next door snoring in the night! Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
E. J.Having travelled up from west Wales today, feeling like I'd been hit by a moose, we arrived and the wonderfully friendly staff welcomed us, got our keys quickly and got is to our room with ease. The rooms is wonderful, four poster bed, awesome bath everything a weary traveller needs. I would seriously recommend this place........ the food arrived and is of a similar high standard. If you a traveling in the area definitely consider here.

A. M.Excellent location, comfortable large bed with a large TV straight ahead of it. Good shower. Parking right outside our room door as it's motel style. All the facilities we needed but a small fridge in the room would've made it perfect. Id definitely stay again!

This hotel is as child-friendly as it advertises. There isn't an adventure playground, or activities laid on, but children are welcome in the side bar area, and there's a box of toys. Our 2 year old was well occupied while we had dinner.
They also serve a good selection of excellent hot drinks for the times before beer o'clock.

T. C.I have never stayed in one of the hotel rooms so cannot comment on these. I pop in for a drink/ meal from time to time. The bar/ restaurant area is pleasant, clean and enjoyable to sit in. Whilst the food quality is variable we've had many good meals there and a number of not so good meals. I feel food is slightly overpriced. Car parking is good. Staff are very friendly.

H. G.Absolutely loved our stay here. The courtyard rooms were spacious enough for us, larger rooms are available in the main building, they were well appointed, clean and tidy.
After relaxing we went into the bar to have a drink after our long journey. The bar was clean, well stocked and not expensive (being a frugal Yorkshire man that counts a lot lol).
For the first of our 2 night stay we had decided to eat at the hotel. I can honestly say we weren't disappointed. The food was outstanding. In fact, it was that good we changed our plans of eating in Durham on the second night. Instead we visited Durham for the day and returned back to the hotel to eat that night. There is a good choice for breakfast as well, from cereals, continental through to full English. Again to a high standard.
The staff were all extremely polite and couldn't do enough for you.
We will definitely be using this hotel again and can't recommend it enoigh.
It's ideal location means you can use it as a home from home while visiting a wide ranging area.

C. P.Our room (room 10) was cold on arrival, there were stains on the carpet near the bed and the bathroom had a musty smell. I didn't use the bathroom facilities as they didn't look very appealing, so I cannot comment to how good they are. The sleep I had here was fine, but the fire alarm went off twice at around 8am (the receptionist did apologise for this). Breakfast was okay, but not near the best I've had in a hotel. Overall it's reasonably priced (our room was £70 for one nights), but the standalone rooms are naff and in need of refurbishment.

a. h.Accommodation was OK - room was slightly too cold (and I prefer a cool room) and there was no obvious way to change the temperature. Ample parking.
Food is decent (if slightly pricey) with generous portions but I'd like to be told on the menu that burgers come in a "trendy" charcoal bun (ie black!) as my kids wouldn't have touched it! 24 hour (or til 12 midnight or 1am perhaps...) room service for snacks would be great (sandwiches, drinks, desserts) - I didn't get back to my room til 11pm and would have loved the option of a light supper but food orders stopped at 9.30pm
Comfy bed, decent telly, but no hot chocolate on tea tray, and I could have done with an extra shower gel (I'd like enough to shower morning and night...)

L. S.Staff was amazing! Food was just as amazing. Room was lovely, downsides was the bathroom floor felt like it had been polished it was so slippery, I could hear everything in the room next to me and under me and the 4 poster bed creaked with every movement and had snapped at the top.

There's a bus stop just across the road to catch no. 6 bus into Durham (10 min journey) and the return bus stops right outside the hotel.

J. G.Visited a few weeks ago but just for lunch. We ordered sandwiches which arrive speedily, they looked attractive and tasted divine. Staff were fabulous. Would recommend the sandwiches but have yet to try a cooked meal.
S. 7.Went for afternoon tea, was really underwhelmed! Sandwiches consisted of ham and cheese and tuna mayo! and a party sausage roll. Scone was nice but cakes disappointing, a 1 inch square of carrot cake a mini eclair, and a macaron. It was certainly not the usual quality of afternoon tea I have had elsewhere. It was edible and uneventful. I won't be returning or recommending to others. Decorated nicely inside and maybe the other food is ok, staff seemed friendly enough.

K. N.Choose between the dog friendly bar or the restaurant. Varied menu. Not the cheapest but if you want quality, it's perfect. Rooms look lovely and next door to the Woodland Trust with walks straight to the City Centre or nearby Shincliffe to visit the pub or garden centre coffee shop. On a main A road so easy to find and ample parking. Staff absolutely lovely. Function rooms available and their catering for buffets recommended. Not just a sausage roll.......
M. M.This is a regular stop of mine. The food is slightly more expensive than surrounding pubs but you get what you pay for. The food is excellent with an amazing choice. Must try the Sunday dinners, they are wonderful. Choose to sit in the bar or restaurant, both very nice. The service is also great. It is a popular place and can get busy due to it being a hotel. The location should also be explored. Cross the road to the Sunderland Bridge and take a walk along the river Wear, very nice indeed!

N. T.Third time I'd been for afternoon tea. Was disappointed. Gone was the clotted cream for the scones replaced with very sloppy whipped cream and we had to ask for more. Staff were not as attentive as they have been in the past and it was the bar manager who was waiting our table. We asked for more tea and I'm sure the same tea bags were used with just the addition of hot water as the second pot was weak. Cream eclairs had been replaced with custard eclairs that tasted not very pleasant. Won't go again for afternoon tea and would struggle to recommend anymore which is a shame as it was once nice.

We were met by one of the staff who showed us to our table, as it was a sunny day we asked if we could have it outside and they were more than happy to move us. The girl serving us was very pleasant and polite. The only downside was a 'drain' smell every so often near where we sat. Other than that a lovely experience.

Have stayed here twice now and on both occasions have had a good overnight stay cant fault it and accommodation is better than a number of 4 star hotels over stayed in btw great freshly cooked breakfast. S. V.Nice hotel with convenient outside lodge stlye rooms with parking outside. We have stayed before and so knew what to expect. Reasonably good prices and very friendly staff. Breakfast was good, but just a small niggle, only one Sausage ! Otherwise a really nice place to stay.

F. R.A good quality hotel situated on the outskirts of the historic city of Durham. The rooms are well appointed and are warm and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty. We have stayed at this hotel on three occasions and we are yet to be disappointed.

J. L.Had a Groupon afternoon tea here today. For the price I paid it was ok, just ok mind you. I could easily have put a window out with our scones dear god they were hard! The rest was.....ok. wouldn't go back here especially at full price, if paid what that was ment to have cost id of demanded a refund.

B. E.Circumstances required a lengthy stay on our part (39 nights). Housing for our daughter, son-in-law, grandson and newborn twins was being renovated and we, along with them, discovered this WONDERFUL hotel. Their prices were budget friendly and the flexibility and kindness shown to us by the entire staff was far above anything we could have expected when we arrived.
S.It was good the food at the restaurant was nice but the only thing I would add is that the sea food made my dad sick that night

R.Spent Bank Holiday Monday here one nights stay all the amenities were of a good standard tea and coffee facilities in the room bed was comfortable maybe an extra pillow but I didn't ask for one the breakfast was good and the breakfast staff were very attentive overall a good experience at a fair price

R.Really enjoyed a Sunday afternoon here, went with friends for a few beers and lunch, didn't book but this wasn't an issue, got a table for four and really enjoyed the Black Sheep beer, the ladies had cider, nice selection, later we ordered meals, 2 pork, 2 lamb, absolutely first class meals and quick service, very friendly, helpful staff and a lovely atmosphere, will definitely be visiting again.
C. 9.Good food and service but drinks are a bit pricey. A small bottle of sparkling water £2.50. Food prices are competitive locally.

R. L.I've stayed here 3 times, we stay here everytime we visit family! I wouldn't think to stay anywhere else. On the last visit we stayed for 2 nights and brought the dogs and our 10 month old, it worked perfectly well and we all enjoyed the visit!
