Victoria recently handled my house sale and purchase. These days it is refreshing to find someone who does what they say they are going to do when they say they are going to do it! Very efficient and problem-free service. I have just sold and bought using Victoria at Hallam, and I highly recommend her and their services if you are looking to do the same. Their prices were competitive with others, but what swung it for me was that Victoria was personally recommended by both my mortgage adviser and an estate agent friend. I should point out that I live in Cambridgeshire, not Yorkshire, and that all correspondence and interactions were done remotely, mostly via e-Mail with only the odd mailed letter needed. This did not hinder timeframes, and I actually found Hallam more efficient and timely than when using local solicitors in previous moves. Back again with nothing but outstanding things to say about this firm (you'll see my previous review from February 2020 - Gina Walker). As stated in my previous review, the moment we found a second property in London, we had already decided that we would use Hallam Solicitors again. In June 2020, we found the home we'd been searching for during the lockdown and as soon as we had our offer accepted on 3rd July 2020, we reached out to Victoria Black (as she had dealt with our conveyancing for our previous property). As always, Victoria was prompt in her response, always provided me with the necessary information and if there was ever a time she could not speak with me, she always followed up by phone or email. Victoria always sent over documents to the third party's lawyer promptly and gave me advice on how best to negotiate the asking price after we received our home buyers report. We completed the exchange of keys on 25th Sep (from offer acceptance to completion - it took a total of 8 weeks!!!). This was very impressive especially due to the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic. Victoria was always honest and straight forward and we really appreciated this. Their fees were also extremely competitive with an easy and straightforward payment process. I've read through some of these reviews and honestly, they are genuine just because of my own experience with them, so if you're hesitant, take it from a 28 year-old first time buyer who was completely clueless, you won't regret using this firm. Absolutely recommend using!!! Like many of you looking around at the moment, I was extremely nervous about choosing a firm to take on our conveyancing. My parents and I live in London but our property was in Leeds. Although we did not have to choose a Leeds based firm, we thought it would make sense to do so just to ensure that we were in the right hands. I started researching firms the standard way i.e. google, trust pilot etc. I came across 3 to 4 that stood out to me. In particular was Hallam. I'd never heard of them before but checked across multiple sites to get a feel of them and see what reviews had been posted. Something that stuck out to me was that a lot of the reviews kept referencing certain individuals within the firm. That alone piqued my interest as I tend to use that as gage for checking if reviews are genuine or not. When I selected 'conveyancing' as my topic, I saw many people naming Victoria Black as a great member of the team who had helped others with their conveyancing. I reached out to Victoria (along with the 3 other firms I had chosen) with a list of questions that I sent to all the firms. Victoria was extremely prompt, answered all my questions on our call and provided me with further information and quotes relatively quickly. In the end, we chose to go with Hallam Solicitors and I can assure you it was the best decision we ever made. Victoria Black was fantastic from start to finish. We signed our contract with them in October 2019 and completed the sale of our house with monies received by February 2020 (4 months total). Victoria was prompt and clear on everything she needed. If there were instances where she was not in office, we spoke with her colleagues instead (I think it was Suhail - who was also very helpful). At first I was worried because I had heard stories about solicitors taking ages to respond, but she always followed up with us. We had many hurdles with our sale, there was a time when the buyers tried to knock £30k off our asking price but Victoria stood firm and gave us sound advice on how to negotiate. We ended up having our original asking price met. She was extremely persistent with the buyer's solicitors (who was sometimes hard to contact and often requested information that had already been sent). Another reason we chose Hallam (and should be a word of warning for all), is that although the larger legal firms seem bigger, have more lawyers and may have more tech savvy tools e.g. online case trackers and portals etc. all that glitters may not be gold. Those extras are actually unnecessary, a waste of time and money, and you'll likely be paying higher fees for those tech upgrades. Also, larger firms tend to have more clients and there is a chance that your case will get lost amongst thousands. I chose a smaller firm that had fewer people but had the capacity and dedication to know my case better and spend time on it. I can honestly say that we had no regrets working with Hallam and appreciate all the hard work and effort that Victoria put in for closing our sale. The fees were also extremely reasonable, I think it only cost us roughly £750 in total (however, this will depend on how complex your sale is so do not use that as a guide). We were so impressed with the level of service that we are looking to buy a second property in London and hope to use Victoria again as our solicitor. I am also going to copy and paste this review on other sites that I checked when I was searching myself. Thank you to the Hallam team and we look forward to using you again this Summer!

I really appreciate the work Suhail did for me, on what was a long and drawn out process of buying a leasehold house in Leeds. His expertise and persistence with the transaction enabled me to secure the property, even though the seller and estate agents Hunters ( I wouldn’t deal with them again) were playing games, withholding information and being untruthful. Hunter‘s definitely crossed Legal boundaries with this transaction, upsetting a lot of people, something I am considering taking up against them. However, I really wanted the property and Suhail went above and beyond any expectation, competing what was around 3/4 weeks work in a mater of a couple of days to ensure I didn’t loose the property and met the quite ridiculous demands of the estate agent and seller.
