Choosing Arona St. James to work on my case for asylum has been one of the best choices I’ve ever made in my life. I got in touch with them for the first time, being 22 years old. At that time, I had just finished my undergraduate degree and, even though I was planning to study a master’s degree for another year, I was very concerned about having to come back to Venezuela, my home country, once I finished my studies. I am a Swiss/EEA national and have been in the UK for 8years and my partner had to relocate from Switzerland to the UK. He was on a visiting visa which had some few months before expiry. For him not to be illegal in the UK before his visa expires, we needed an outstanding Lawyer with a proving track record to take on our case in other for my partner to be granted a residence permit. Due to me studying and working part time, we thought that our chances of my partner applying and being granted an EEA family member residence permit would be slim. Arona was very honest with us and discussed our options and our chances of our application being accepted by the Home Office. I am Hungarian EEA national. I applied for my permanent residence with my husband and was treated very poorly by the Home Office, they raided my home. The officers were quite hostile to me as my husband had moved out and I had not informed them. I thought up until I divorce I am still married, so could not see why they were shouting at me …….that I had lied to them and that It was too late and I would have to leave the UK. I found out about Arona St James through the stonewall website. This was the time I was in a very critical situation, where I have almost exhausted all options with another law firm that was recommended by THT and I have been battling immigration for over 4 years. When I walked into Arona's office and showed her all my paperwork, both replies from the Home Office and the court rejections. She was dismayed with the work my previous immigration solicitors have put in my work. My previous immigration lawyer always told me that I will get thrown in detention once I applied for Asylum and the possibility for the Home office granting me stay is very low, and the only hope I have is through the courts. My initial contact with Arona St James Solicitors came as a result of a referral from a close friend in summer of 2015; who had employed the organisation services in resolving his long standing immigration issues. Like many European citizens, I spent years and years in the UK without worrying too much and all that changed in 2016 with Brexit. When reading the small print regarding permanent residence application, you realise that there are many cases where having been there for more than 5 years might not be enough at all. You need 5 years of 'continuously exercising treaty rights' but it turns out that there are lots of conditions for each cases. For example, for student years, you need a 'Comprehensive Sickness Insurance', etc. I am in the self employed/entrepreneur case, in a difficult situation since there was not a lot of business initially in my company and so it could have proven very difficult to demonstrate my activity was legit and met the EEA application requirements. I mean, not all business start showing activity and making money from day 1! If you started a software company and had to work 1 or 2 years to create the actual initial software, you know what I mean. Arona St James really worked hard to create a compelling application. They explained everything, they came up with the right strategy and tactics. they worked on a tight deadline. And I got the permanent residence I was after. I'm so grateful. They really have that experience and professional knowledge of what would work, what would be useless, etc. They asked me to add some documents I would have never thought of, etc. A job really well done.
