I've used James E Barnes solicitors for two shared ownership transactions and have been highly impressed both times. Both Emma and Jim have a lot of knowledge regarding shared ownership. With the most recent transaction, Emma was my main point of contact and was very responsive and informative, keeping me updated every step of the way. James @ James E Barnes Solicitors did a sterling job on my behalf. I don’t understand some of the negative reviews at all! He held my hand throughout the process to ensure that all the T’s were crossed and all the I’s were dotted. Just because he does not phone you every minute doesn’t mean he is not on the job. He also represented me on behalf of my son who was also buying a property and gave us good advice. To the point that we decided to withdraw he spotted a negative that down the line would have been quite disastrous had we gone ahead. He can spot a bad deal a mile away! Due to his thoroughness. James will give you his honest opinion as to what smells fishy and what is good. He will go through all the right steps to ensure that you contract is a good one and if not he will tell you. I must admit it was a stressful time for me as we were coming to the end of the stamp duty holiday and I had thought that James was taking his time to get me through the process, but he was just being through and doing what a good solicitor should do. I did ring him a tad too many times, but he was very nice about it. James is not phone person so he doesn’t call you to chat niceties when there’s nothing to talk about, but he will email you and keep you in the loop if there is something that requires your attention, so if you don’t hear from him it doesn’t mean that he is not working hard on your behalf. “Fear not, James has your back” and he will get you to the finish line in his own unique way. I've used James Barnes solicitors twice - once for buying my Shared Ownership property and then again for selling my share. Jim & Emma are very knowledgable, professional and fast at replying to queries. Selling a property does take time but that's usually because you're waiting on third parties (*cough* housing association *cough*) It's also nice that you actually get a solicitor working on your case at all times, rather than paying the same amount somewhere else and having someone less qualified handling your conveyancing. Will definitely use again if I decide to buy another SO property in future

I used James E Barnes (and his team) twice. First in 2009 when I bought a foothold in a part ownership property and recently to buy the remaining 50% in the property. The most recent process hit a few hurdles and required lost of perseverance and political "chess moves" due to the selling party being.. well... incapable of doing their job. However, despite being on a fixed fee, James Barnes dealt with all challenges head-on and made sure the sale completed in time. I cannot recommend them enough.
