I would highly recommend Family First Solicitors. I used them for quite a complex issue following a separation from my partner. Everything was conducted remotely as a result of me being over 150 miles away from their offices and on a 'pay as you go' basis. This worked brilliantly. It meant I didn't rack up a huge legal bill and was able to access the advice I needed as and when the next issue arose. Ursula was absolutely brilliant, super responsive and incredibly pragmatic. Her approach was always about getting the issue resolved in the most cost effective manner without endless reams of back and forth paperwork and ping pong letters between me and the other party. Just to the point and effective. If you are looking for a law firm that approaches legal advice in a fresh way and fit for purpose in the 21st century then you won't go wrong with Family First Solicitors.

I wish we'd known about Family First years ago when my partner's abusive spouse started hassling her for divorce. Even though mediation wasn't working we were put off going to court because we thought she either had to go it alone in court against her ex (who could afford a solicitor) or spend more money than she possessed on a solicitor herself. Instead we've had a £60 as-long-as-it-takes initial session with one of Family First's solicitors (Jenny), a couple of short Pay As You Go sessions with George, and some help from Ursula and George's Thursday evening Live sessions on Facebook. The Facebook sessions especially are brilliant; we've learned so much about family law, court procedures, what's important and what's not, and gotchas to watch out for, and it's not as scary as it seemed. And they're sometimes laugh out loud funny - Ursula can be very forthright in her opinions! Recommended

I have been in litigation for over 8 years. Previously I had not received good service with 2 other solicitors and found myself in a wholly unsatisfactory position. Discovering Family First has been a revelation. I've been a PAYG client for the last 6 years. It has served me extremely well and enabled my complex and protracted divorce litigation to be dealt with at a very reasonable and manageable cost. This has included a raft of financial and children matters some of which I initially found frightening to contemplate. I value their honest, sensible advice which pushed me to view my position with a broader, more objective mindset. When to stand your ground and when to walk away is the key. This has been hugely empowering, I have learnt and developed skills that I can use in other areas of life and it's given me complete control over my cases. My strategy has been to do the legwork myself, with an eye on costs you can be resourceful - it is simple enough to write letters and fill out forms all of which are accessible online. You can then use your funds (where limited) for the critical legal expertise and solicitor/barrister representation for the day in court, if it comes to that. Representing yourself is entirely do-able. I stress the importance of seeking legal advice, gaining knowledge and having the correct support. I don't hesitate to recommend Family First.

I visited Henrietta Pote, Legal Executive at Family First Solicitors, Oxford, following the breakdown of my marriage. I had little idea of how difficult and protracted the process would become and how much I would come to rely and value her excellent professional advice. Despite being a very short marriage (16 months) and there being no children involved we ended up in court at a First Directions Appointment Hearing. From applying to the initial Decri Nisi to preparing for the court hearing Henrietta consistently provided very sound and helpful advice and worked tirelessly throughout the process to try and resolve the issues in an amicable way as possible without recourse to the courts. Despite all the difficulties encountered she remained calm throughout and was always there to provide support and advice to me even at short notice. I could have not have asked for a better legal representative and I know that those 9 months would have been so much harder without her professional help and support. I also felt that she endeavoured to keep costs from mounting wherever possible. In addition I have always found the staff at Family First to be incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. Just like to say Ursula Rice at family first is one amazing lady:-) thanks to her my divorce and settlement with her help was sorted within a year after having 3 other solicitors rip me off for 9 years previous. I cant thank her enough she is so down to earth and offered me the best advice possible. The other solicitors i uesd previous just kept sending letters that they must have known were a waste of time all they could see were the £ signs whereas Ursula would advise me if things were worth pursuing financially and if not to let it go i really appreciated her honesty and would and have recommended her to many others.
