I recently used Chartahouse for my sale and purchase. I could not fault them excellent customer service they certainly went above and beyond to make sure everything was in order. Communication was impeccable with Chartahouse, however my purchaser used the worst solicitors ever. Nick and his team certainly had their work cut out dealing with them. This is for 2 years ago and my experience so far.... They were cheap, good communicators, and very thorough all the way through. I always got replies within 24hrs. I would recommended them any-day. When I bought my first house, I was so full on with all the excitement. I would e-mailing them and phone them twice a-day. I think if a lot of people are like that, they must struggle to respond to the general stuff. So my verdict is Excellent Service, Excellent Communication, Excellent Price, and always politely and willing to help. I would give Chartahouse more stars if I could!!! Me and my husband brought our first home together 5 years ago, we were very unsure as to where to go when selling our home due to our previous solicitors being hideous so choosing the right solicitors for buying and selling this time round was massive for us. Chartahouse came recommended by a friend when asking about but we lived so far away from their office and we wanted somewhere local we could walk in with any queries as the thought of email or over the phone contact only put us off from our last experience. We enquired at Chartahouse, almost instantly we were sent an estimated quote for the buying and selling of our home which was very reasonably priced (in-fact they were cheap in comparison to our previous solicitor) and we decided to proceed using their services and they did not fail. Simon Hawkins was the solicitor dealing with our buying and selling and would highly recommend to him everyone. Simon had to deal with my continuous emails, calls, panics and faffing around all the issues relating to the house (paperwork previous solicitor should have completed but didn’t) and he responded instantly if not he would communicate with me in some way during the day to keep me updated. Chartahouse also have a tracker called Track-a-matter for you to view at anytime which uploads all files, documents and shows you stages of the buying/selling process which was really helpful. Simon understood the need for a quick turn around due to the chain requiring a deadline, he turned around our enquiries within a day and liaised with the rest of the chain to keep things running smoothly. Everything that could have gone wrong for our sale and purchase went wrong, no fault of Chartahouse just other solicitors in the chain we were waiting on and the work my previous solicitor didn’t complete Simon had I pick up and complete his end in speedy time! I cannot thank Simon enough for all his hard work and we couldn’t have done it without his persistence and excellent communications - thank you Simon & Thank you Chartahouse. This is the easiest review I’ve ever given, and well deserved. We moved back from New Zealand a year ago. Mortgages for first time buyers being a pain at the best of times, we had a slightly long winded process due to New established company books etc. With a young baby we needed to get in to the house. We have used both different Plymouth based solicitors and Chartahouse Conveyancing for several purchases and sales over the years. While I have never had cause for complaint I returned to Chartahouse for our last three property transactions as they really do provide outstanding service and real value for money. On this last purchase completed in November 2018 we were out of the country for nearly the whole transaction and both Nick and Gemma could not have been more helpful in overcoming obstacles so that we did not have to fly back. In our view the procedure did take a little longer than we anticipated but this was due to a tenant being in situ and lengthy delays in response to Nick's e-mailed enquiries sent to the sellers solicitor and letting agent. I would like to thank the team at Chartahouse and will definitely be using them again.

If I ever needed information there was always someone on the end of the phone who would answer all my questions. They also have a website called 'Track a matter' this allows you to see how the transaction is progressing. From start to finish the process took just over 5 weeks which is well above the average! I've used Chartahouse for 3 sales/purchases and have never had a problem contacting them at all. Often they seem to be hampered by the slowness of other agencies (notably older firms of solicitors) that take weeks to respond to simple requests, but normally, I've found, Chartahouse were chasing me for correspondence, not the other way around. Now they electronically confirm every stage of the process, it's hard to find fault. That said, my last transaction through them was four years ago. Incidentally, I am just a punter. I am not an estate agent, mortgage broker or in any way connected to the firm. If you're interested, I'm a teacher. If you're not... er... still a teacher.

Our transaction was relatively straightforward (a house swap + cash) and did not involve estate agents. Chartahouse documentation explaining the process was clear, and their charges were defined at the outset. One huge advantage is the on line tracker system which allows you to check the status of the move at any time, and all communications were sent to us by email. We were also alerted to all significant events by SMS text. To some extent Chartahouse follow a tick box algorithm which on several occasions meant we received letters that seemed to be asking questions that we had already answered and which proved confusing. However overall they seemed very efficient and it was possible to resolve queries very quickly. There is obviously always scope for lawyers to disagree with each other and the conveyancing process has become more and more complex but overall Chartahouse provided an excellent service.
