They are very polite and helpfully. First time my car was in, they couldn't find out when the problem was. So didn't change me for looking at it, but did say that if it continued then I could bring it back. Took it back in and let them do a full check instead of just the specific point I said the first time, they was able to find the problem and fix it. I Would highly recommended them to anyone.

My clutch went just as I got into my work. Called GRG who said they could replace the clutch on the following Monday, in which so in five days time, the best other garages could do was up two weeks. Got my car to them that day by (aa) We picked the car up Friday afternoon. First class service. Don't waste your time going anywhere else if you want the best go to the best.

Took my van to GRG, and they were very professional and fixed all my many problems. They're the experts with gearboxes, clutches, transmission and my van desperately needed their skills. Had originally taken my van to another garage approx 10 months before going to GRG. The previous garage (next to Arnos Court Park, Brislington - supposed to specialise in my make of vehicle!!) had changed my clutch as well as the main crank seal and clutch guide tube. Soon after I had gearbox oil leaks and the gear change was never right after the clutch was replaced. Took it back to original garage and they were hopeless and not interested. In desperation I tried GRG and they diagnosed that the new seals the original garage fitted were leaking. It was a big job to rectify, needing front subframe removed as well as gearbox coming out. GRG did a gearbox re-seal to cure the leaks as well as replacing seals that original garage were supposed to replace. GRG found that the previous garage had even botched the main crank seal replacement, as unknown to me, I also had a slight engine oil weep too. They also replaced a worn selector on gearbox. Thanks to GRG, I now don't have any leaks and the gear selection is like new. Can't fault their skills and expertise. The mecahnics and gearbox technicians really know their stuff, and I can't recommend them highly enough. They also fixed on or two non-gearbox related problems too. I'll be using them again.

Brilliant service. Really accommodating. Wasn't too sure what issue was, but explained down the phone and they advised they could do a drive test if I take it down. Was upfront about costs , explained work needed really well and didn't try to get you to do unnecessary works. They were hit by a bought of isolating staff during the week my vehicle was in the garage but kept me updated and had all work done within the week. Great staff, great service and my van is running so smooth now. Prices are competitive, service is second to none.

After the COVID-19 lockdown I found that I had got a crunchy 2nd gear on my Peugeot Boxer Motorhome. This as it turned out was caused by water getting into the gearbox via the scuttle box at the bottom of the windscreen. I repaired this scuttle box by repairing with fibreglass ( one of my jobs in the past) Next came the search to get the gearbox repaired, having searched the internet and visiting gearbox people locally (60to70 miles) I hadn’t got anywhere. I then saw in a Motorhome online forum an article mentioning Gloucester Road Gearboxes. I did a lot of researching of this company and eventually contacted them and spoke to Mark who gave me all the details I asked about. After discussing the information with the wife we decided that this was going to be the route we had got to go down to get the van back on the road and back in use again I again contacted Gloucester Road Gearboxes and spoke to Leigh this time and booked the van in to be repaired. We had a 270+ mile trip to get to Bristol, not a very pleasant journey I might add as the gearbox got worse as the journey went on but we eventually arrived and left the van in their hands. I received a phone call by lunchtime that day with the details of what was wrong and gave the go ahead to replace the gearbox and the clutch (I saw no point in taking the box out without replacing the clutch at the same time). By lunchtime the next day I was informed that the job was completed and the van was ready to be collected We went back to the garage and paid for the work. Not cheap I might add, but not expensive considering prices I had been quoted elsewhere for work to be done without any really guarantee as to the workmanship. G R G are different they guarantee their work. Our journey home was a dream. The new gearbox made it an absolute pleasure to drive and we are now looking forward to getting mobile next year, health permitting. Thank You all at Gloucester Road. Polite and professional place but they were no good for me unfortunately. I have the flashing spanner symbol where the gear number is on my VW Touran dsg, i had it scanned and i was told that i would need a new mechatronic unit. I took it here, they charged me £60 to scan it themselves to tell me what i already knew and quoted me £1820 plus vat to replace it with a new unit. If you have the wallet to support it, i'm sure they are very good.. but i did not take this option.

The best place in and around Bristol to help you with your gearbox problems. Sadly I did have a big problem with my car. The dealer quoted between £5000 and £6000. I paid £3500. A lot of money but a lot less. They offered a loan car for free. One important point, don't get confused with the name. They are not based on the Gloucester road.

Excellent Service and repair. My 8/9 year old Hyundai van was getting "notchy" on gears one and two and although "only" on 52,000 miles my very local driving and short steep driveway had me and others thinking the clutch (not changed since the van was bought by me new) was on the way out. I checked with two garages the price of a fitted clutch and surprisingly the main Hyundai dealer was slightly cheaper than the independent but being Dual-Mass both quoted about £1100. I found even by sourcing a clutch myself and getting my "go to" guy to do it then I would be looking at £880. As it got worse over about a month I took it in for a check over and my normal garage thought it could be the clutch but said beyond clutches he was no expert on gearboxes and suggested I try Gloucester Rd Gearboxes (GRG). I phoned GRG on a Saturday morning and was told that if I took the van in the next week they would do a free drive and give an opinion and further explained that if it was "inconclusive" I could book it in for a £35.00 on the ramps examination. The drive was inconclusive but the driver said the clutch was riding high but that it worked on the other gears and reverse and so suggested booking in for an examination. Due to my work I didn't take it in for another 5 days but got down at opening just before 8 am on Monday and cycled home. About 2 and a half hours after leaving it I got a call to say the van had been repaired and that it was a permanent fix. The linkage had partially come out of wherever it should have slid into and GRG welded it back in place. I have waited over a further week and included a 200 mile drive through several towns since to make sure all remains sound before typing this review and am happy to say that everything is working perfectly. Total bill? £78.00 inc. VAT. I am very pleased as it would have been so easy to "pad the bill" as I was expecting a new clutch or at least parts needed. Top class work GRG; a thorough recommend from me.

Highly recommend; fast, efficient, friendly and informative. A previous garage misdiagnosed my car twice, so I was really worried I would take it to another garage and still drive away with a faulty car. GRGB however correctly identified several issues and fixed it very quickly considering the amount of work which was required (clutch, gearbox, wheel bearing etc). I took my husband’s Toyota Land Cruiser to this garage as he feared the gearbox was knackered - strange noises were erupting from that area. I hate going to garages because I am a princess. I reluctantly and tentatively drove his precious car to be fixed. An engineer immediately took it for a spin and the news was good. The gearbox was fine. The noise was a loose heat shield thingy. This lovely garage allowed me to pop to the shops while they fixed it. The bill was extremely reasonable although I did spend a small fortune in Primarni, oops. I wasn't desperate but wanted to find out how much I was dealing with.. Called GRGB after a £1300 Quote local Garage and £1700 Main dealer on clutch and dual mass flywheel on a 520d. They rang me back in 5mins and quoted me £650 ex VAT I couldn't believe it I struggled to find parts alone for cheaper, so an Offer I couldn't refuse. I moved to Bristol 6 months ago, not knowing the area I was recommended to use Gloucester Road Gearboxes when my car needed a service. I have been using grgb for 15 years plus and have worked there for 4 years. While a problem with your car is always annoying I can not fault Gloucester Road Gearboxes and the work they've done. I have had various repairs over the years....Air conditioning, brakes, exhaust and clutch flywheel etc. The majority of these repairs were completed before i joined the company so I'm a real customer too.
