I've used these guys for about 10 years or more. Having been there again today, I thought it's time I wrote them a review. Reading the other comments, it's nice to see everyone else agrees. So friendly and polite and reliable. They keep you well updated if there are any unexpected developments (especially costs) in connection with your car. I've never had any reason to be disappointed with their work. All round, a class act. Highly recommend

First time having repairs done by Doig Motor Engineers has been a good experience. I called a Thursday for some repairs and got my car worked on the Monday after. I got a phonecall for the expected work and estimated cost for worst case scenario, and later turned out to be less costly than that. Car runs smoothly again. Very happy with the service provided.

I am a female aged 56, with little knowledge of cars – other than oil change, windscreen wash top-ups, and, somewhat shamefully, calling the AA in the event of a breakdown. In my 40s, I moved from another garage in central Edinburgh, to R D Doig – it had come highly recommended. One of life’s great decisions. It is by far and away the best garage I have ever used in Edinburgh, in over 30 years of car ownership. A tight ship – family-owned and run, the service you will receive ticks every box: - a member of The Good Garage Scheme – and it shows - outstanding service – and clear, open communication at all times - when you book in your car for a service, they will never undertake a repair over and above the ‘norm’ without communicating with you, first – and explaining, why it is needed, & asking for your approval - importantly, as a woman, they never patronise you (or ever undertake unnecessary work, based on the fact they consider your knowledge or lack a bonus!); and, you will always feel comfortable entering this garage – none of the scantily-clad pictures of women plastered on walls, or creepy looks - the words trustworthy and honesty are most apt I have recommended this garage to all members of my family, and they are similarly delighted with the decision to switch to using them. Including my husband, who has enormous knowledge of car engines. The owners of the garage – father and son – are a delight to speak with – pleasant, courteous – and, at all times professional. As is Bruce, their head mechanic, who has been with the owner since start-up. In short, they are all very, very nice! The invoicing you will receive shows a clear breakdown of all costs. Everything is accounted for. The garage itself is small – but spotless. The office displays its membership of The Good Garage Scheme, and you will be given a book when you start to go to them, detailing all your services/MOTS, etc. It really is a pleasure to recommend such a wonderful, and ethical garage.
