I used Stein’s Garage for a full service and MOT and I am very happy I did! I chose them for all the positive reviews but I was still I was nervous, having only used Arnold Clark packages before which were included with my car purchase. Didn’t need to be, they were super friendly and accommodating. They took the time to explain everything that was done and anything I might need to look out for or not. I felt like I could trust them with only carrying out work needed and the prices are super competitive! If you are a recent driver with no one you can call to for advice, take your car to Stein’s. I will definitely go back :)

I always have a great positive experience with Steins garage. I've been taking my old car there for an MOT since I moved to Leith five years ago and any work needing done was reasonable and fairly priced. Today I went in to check on a repair I was concerned about and other niggles with my new car. George sorted out this repair straight away and reassured me about concerns I had over my gearbox, I also got to see the repair being done in real time. Really quick and very cheap repair on this occasion, also very friendly and knowledgeable as always. The only challenge is sometimes getting your car booked in because they are so popular! Not a bad sign at all. I've had to go to an alternative local garage on occasion as they were busy and I felt this other garage did work that wasn't necessary, so I've learnt my lesson and will stick with Steins! Whether it's an in-depth breakdown of the what's and the how's, a full check-up of your vehicle, or someone to just fix it so you can get back on the road, this is place for you. Will not charge you for anything they don't do and will also advise against doing anything you don't need, so it always turns out cheaper than I think it will. Tell them what you need and they will take care of it.

Great service from Gregor and the guys. I needed my MOT and service done at really short notice and they managed to fit me in and do it quick. I also needed my break pads replaced and got them for a much cheaper price than I’ve paid in the past. I was shown pictures of the old break pads and kept informed the whole way through. I chose Steins after reading the almost unanimously excellent reviews on Google. I was right to. I dropped my car off at 8.00am. They had carried out a full service and an MOT (he passed - thank goodness) by 3pm or so. Friendly staff, excellent service, and great prices. Craig advised me that my two front tyres were beginning to show signs of wear and would probably need replacing within a couple of months or so. He said he'd text me the current price for sourcing and replacing the tyres and would try his best to match it when I came back to get the work done. You can't beat a local garage and good service. I won't be taking my car anywhere else from now on. Brilliant garage.

I've taken my car to Steins twice now, for its yearly MOT and some work on it. My car is really old and beaten up, and in the past I've had garages charge for a lot of unnecessary work to be done on it, so I was wary when I moved to Edinburgh and needed to find another garage. Steins was recommended to me for being trustworthy, and they have really proven that to me in the work they do. Always honest and unfront, but also really reasonably priced for what they do too. Have been using this garage in the past few years for my MOT, annual servicing and all sorts of repairs - my old car needs a lot of care! Craig and his team are very knowledgeable and professional, identifying the problems quickly and offering cost-effective solutions as needed. For the jobs they could't do, Craig explained the problem in details, and referred me to one of the garages he knew, even with an estimated price for the job, which is usually pretty accurate! Although it is not the most conveniently located for me, I feel my car is in good hands with them and it is definitely worth the extra travel.

Choose to put the car in to Steins based on reviews and did not disappoint at all. High quality job and very good price. Dispute the lockdown they were able to get the car in and out in a couple of hours and couldn’t have been happier with the process. Took my vw polo to a different garage and it failed its MOT. Garage quoted nearly £400 for the repairs which seemed high to me. Contacted Steins after the garage I use in Newcastle recommended them. Craig was fantastic; I dropped the car off that afternoon and it was ready by the next morning, and they only charged £210 for the same repairs and a new MOT test. Could not recommend them highly enough.

Everyone who I had contact with during my visit to Steins was highly professional, kind, friendly and honest. Craig is very friendly and highly knowledgeable with regard to cars. I took my old diesel car for service at start of the year, got a call back from Craig later during the day was told the car was in very bad condition and wasn't worth servicing/spending money. But good thing was Craig didn't charge me single penny for checking the car. Took my car to other garage who happily charged me over £120 for full service. 3 months down the line, car went for MOT and failed miserably. Exactly same issues Craig had highlighted before and eventually car went to scrappy. Wish I had listened to Craig advice on first instance. Highly recommended and most reliable garage in Edinburgh. Trustworthy, very reasonable prices, good work. If there was a mark-up on parts it must have been small. -- Only picked them for MOT because they were near my wife's work. Good MOT price. MOT failed, which we were expecting. Brake pads, possibly the calipers (would need checking during pad change), loose exhaust, hasn't had a service for over 20k miles.... A few other bits and bobs. Took their time to explain it to my wife in reasonably plain English (neither of us understand the jargon!) We braced for a painful price, and were pleasantly surprised. They seem pretty honest here; when they checked the calipers - having already been told we would pay for replacement - the mechanic found that they were perfectly fine and therefore saved us some money. We'd have been none the wiser if they decided to change them anyway for a wee bit extra. Feels like a different car now, and they had it all done in a few hours. Very happy, will certainly be keeping them in mind for future work.

As a women in her 20's, I get nervous changing garages but i've just recently moved to Edinburgh and now I wouldn't go to any other garage. I've had my car for 4 years and this is honestly the best service i've had. Car went in for service and MOT, Craig's dad was there to recieve it and Craig delt with the return, both with great customer service. The price was incredibly reasonable for what was wrong with my car PLUS they fixed everything so quickly that I got my car back after 3 hours and my car has never felt so good to drive! They're friendly, very knowledgeable, very efficient and very effective. Definitely making this my go-to garage.

There is probably not much left to be said about Craig and his garage, but as I was only able to find it thanks to other people's reviews in Google and he always did an outstanding job, so I will do my bit. The following week we drove to the Trossachs for a family holiday, while there the car started making a squeaking noise. Used Steins Garage for a major brake repair after we had an advisory on our last MOT and the problem had since worsened. We had never visited a local garage before so the choice was mainly down to online reviews and it proved a great one. Craig explained in detail what needed to be done and only replaced what needed to be replaced, and for much less than what was quoted in one of the chain garages. Our Brakes are running perfectly now and we also had our fluids topped up for free. We'll be going back for a service and MOT in a couple of weeks.

I’ve been taking my car (a bit of an old banger) to Steins for three years, and have been singing their praises to friends and families from the start. I’ve taken the car in for the MOT three times and it’s passed them all – partly, I suspect, because they’ve serviced it first rather than after the MOT. Actually, one year, they turned down work because it didn’t need doing (I asked them to service with the MOT, but as it’d been in for work a few months before they told me I’d be wasting my money. I was gobsmacked). When I wasn’t able to get to the garage in time to pick the car up, Craig suggested leaving the keys at a local corner shop for me, or collecting the car with my spare set and he'd keep my keys and paperwork to be returned when I paid. Decent customer service, and a very good price.

A phenomenal garage. I was quoted an exceptional price, less than half that of other garages both in and out of the city- you won't get a finer standard of work or a better price. They even managed to fit my car in despite the short notice and being busy. Craig and the team are very polite, chatty and really put you at ease! My knowledge of cars would fit on the back of a postage stamp (with room to spare), and at no point did I feel ripped off or exploited: they really took the time to explain things and decipher my poor explanation of the problem, as well as staying in touch to update me on my car. I rang Craig up after my failed to start. He immediately accommodated my problem and said he would take a look. I managed to get the car to the garage on Gordon street and left it with him for the day. He explained everything he was going to be doing to the car in detail. He is a very knowledgable and highly skilled mechanic and can not recommend him enough. Being a woman, I don't like being patronised or ripped off. I'm also tired of having to research everything online first, so I look like I know what I'm talking about. Looks like I won't be doing any of that anymore. :-) I googled garages and saw Steins 5 star ratings. This garage is way on the other side of town from me - but hey, you'll travel far and wide for good service and value for money. And that's exactly what I got. Very reasonable price for my service for my VW and was told the car was near perfect and there was no other work needed. Hurrah! (not like the service I got from VW themselves for the past 6 years). I went back the next day and had 2 tyres fitted at an excellent price. Craig is a great guy, with good social skills and a smile. Another bonus. I'll be back. :-)

Took my 2010 Audi in to Craig. Was rattling about at high speeds and was making a lot of clunking noises etc. Just wasn't a well car at all. Craig went out of his way to meet me at 6:30am (I don't know if he wants me to say that as I think he'd rather the lie in for future customers) because I start work at that time. Kept me well informed and didn't do un warrented work. My onboard computer was saying all my brake pads were needing replaced but Craig took a look, then just replaced the front ones. Explaining my back ones were fine and that it was just the computer that needing reset. He could of easy swindled me for that but didn't. Had the car in for two full days with the amount of work needing done to it and now I've got it back it's like night and day. I'll be taking it up with the garage I bought it from 5 months ago at the condition it was sold to me in. Very straight talking and easy to deal with, nice guy all round. I was worried about advisories from my car's MOT, done in 2021, and put my car into Steins Garage, a wee bit out of paranoia because of different squeaks and rattles whilst driving. The mechanics had a look, tightened a few things and then called me to say everything looked fine, no repairs needed until its next MOT. I'm giving 5 stars because the booking and check-in process were seamless, and I really admired the honesty (not a given with mechanics). I'll certainly bringing the car back for MOT and Service later this year.
