Many thanks! Errol is a very professional and knowledgeable mechanic. Awesome communication. Helped to identify the problem with my car in about 15 minutes! I drove my car to my local garage to check for intermittent driving and was told that the problem with my car is in the gearbox, that 1st and 2nd gears are completely gone and more... The gearbox needs to be removed from the car and sent to London for repairs, which will take about two weeks. I searched the internet and found the High Gear Service in Nottingham. I visited them. Errol tested the car and concluded: “THIS IS NOT A GEARBOX ISSUE!!!” The garage he recommended fixed my car in a few hours! It's hard to believe, but it's true, and now I can drive safely. 5 +++++ star. Thanks a lot, Errol.

Saved my holiday! I took my car to my local garage to have a noise checked and they said it needed a new gearbox but they couldn’t do it. I found High Gear Service online and on short notice took my car in hoping it might be fixed in time for my holiday a few days later. Errol test drove the car and not only reassured me that there was nothing wrong with the gearbox, but also called in a favour and managed to diagnose what had been causing the noise, which was basically nothing to worry about. So I went from being on the verge of cancelling my holiday and forking out for a new gearbox to everything being sorted within an hour of arriving at High Gear Service. Really amazing, and very friendly guys. Restored my faith in humanity, or mechanics at least!

What a thoroughly nice chap Herrol is, we went for a short test-drive during which he diagnosed my cars noise problem, wheel bearing rather than differential. He was spot on...new bearing... all quiet! He didn't charge for his time either. Would highly recommend. Steve S.

I got in touch with Errol about a gearbox issue with my Audi and he suggested I bring my car down and he would have a listen to the problem. After a short drive, he said he was 100% certain it was a wheel bearing that was causing the issue and the gearbox was fine. Took me to a friends garage and they confirmed and booked me in for the work. I had taken my car to 2 other garages and they were certain it was the gearbox and were quoting prices north of £3000 to fix the "issue". Long story short, Errol was honest, and saved me a load because he took time to think about the problem rather than wade it with a supposed solution. He didn't even get anything for the work, it all went to his mate! This is what you want from a car mechanic, honesty and integrity. Highly highly recommended.

I rang these guys concerning a whining noise that had appeared on my newly acquired Peugeot, which I was sure was the transmission but needed a 2nd opinion. Errol asked me to drop in the next day so he could take it for a short run, which I did. From the moment you meet him you think that you have known him for years, he is so easy-going and friendly. And knowledgeable! Firstly he looked under the bonnet and spotted oil stains and fresh sealant and said he thought that the 'box had run dry at some point and had then been replenished after the leak had been fixed. Within a short distance he confirmed his suspicions that the 'box did in fact have premature wear, explained what components were affected and that the 'box would need attention in the future. And he did all this in the knowledge that the car is still under warranty and would have to be returned to the garage for rectification. And there was no diagnostic charge... Would definitely use him in the future if needed. Thanks, Errol!

I went to see Erroll for advice after I was told I needed a new gearbox in my recently purchased vw transporter. He jumped in the van and after driving no more than a minute told me there was nothing wrong with gearbox. It was a wheel bearing issue. This was last week. So yesterday I got wheel bearings done . And guess what no more noise. Can't thank Erroll enough. Genuine guy.

Gave them a call about a potential audi auto gearbox service for my 09 audi 3.0 tdi , got excellent, free, honest advice on phone for 10 mins. Guy said they don't do them, because they're generally not necessary and if it ain't broke don't fix it because it's a complicated procedure and can cost 1000s to fix if done wrong especially for the age of my vehicle.

Simply a brilliant place. I took my Jeep along to be checked out for a bit of an odd sound, potentially from the gearbox or diff. Errol took time and care to check out the noise, and diagnosed it as a wheel bearing rather than the trans - not as easy as it sounds as the noise was deceptively hard to trace. High Gear are gearbox specialists and leave the regular jobs to garages, so his time, care and honesty were especially appreciated. High Gear have already saved me money, so the next time I have an issue with the gearbox on my car or motorcycle - I know exactly where to come. Hello all. My experience with High Gear Service.. My renault trafic van developed the dreaded gearbox whine. I don't know much about the insides of cars so it can be a bit intimidating going to the garage but it was a pleasure with High Gear Service. Herrol/Morgan Freeman is so friendly and a pleasure to have met. He explained everything with me, quoted me, told me it was a common problem on trafics (which sadly I knew) and was helpful through and through. The price was reasonable. I broke down today unable to engage the gears on my company 2007 vivaro. My breakdown company wanted to know where to take it so i rang several garages that wouldn't touch it. Called High Gear and they drove out to meet me in 30 minutes. After diagnosing it, they fixed it at the roadside (just the gear cable needed popping back on) and charged me nothing. I own Probitas Carpet & Window Cleaning in Nottingham and as a business built on integrity you get to recognise who to trust and do business with. I know where I will be going when my gearbox does need replacing! Professional, personable and highly recommend.

Hi There. I recently had my gear box fully reconditioned and had a new clutch and dualmass flywheel fitted on my VW golf gt. Firstly I would like to start off by saying a big thanks to the staff at HGS, they were all extremely helpful and also very welcoming, which put my mind at piece that the job would be done properly, with out taking any shortcuts. Herald one of the staff which I imagine is the boss is very good at advising on financial decision making, the reason say this, is because i was not sure if it was worth spending the money to fix my car as i have already spent allot on replacing other major parts like the turbo. But In the end i took Heralds helpful advice to fix the car, so at least i Get the use and pleasure out of the of it instead of selling it, which would be basically giving it away, as all the major work has been done now. Most garages i have been to have never been as helpful as HGS. The service was fairly quick it took about 3 days to get my car back but obviously its a time consuming job so I didn’t expect it to be done overnight. The only bad point is that since i had my car back, at first the gears were very smooth and easy to get into gear with out having to be to forceful, but the second day I noticed, especially when the engine is cold its quite hard to get it in to 1st and 2nd gear and the same when you change down in lower gears. The best way i can describe it is its like the gear stick is catching on something and not engaging properly. When you first start the car from cold unless you force the gearstick into the correct position it will stay in Neutral. It also sometimes gets jammed between 1 and 2 which makes the gear stick vibrate and makes a grinding noise even if the clutch pedal is all the way down. I Have already taken it back to HGS for a check up but normally once the engine has warmed up the gears are less problematic and loosen up. So I have taken it to a trust worthy garage which I have been going to for the past 5 years and they have experienced the same problem as me. I left it there overnight so they could start the car from a cold engine. They have checked the gear linkage and the rear gearbox stabiliser bush which is all working how it should. So they have said it could either be that the gearbox oil is to thick which is causing the gears to stick or there is a problem that lies in the gearbox its self. I am not to concerned as the gearbox comes with a 12 month warranty, but i would like to get it sorted as soon as possible incase it becomes any worse, as i use my car on a daily basis for work. I will update this review as an when the issue has been fully sorted out. Many Thanks, Alfie.

I glad to give a very positive review having had the gearbox in my Zafira (1.7 diesel) reconditioned at High Gear Services. It now runs as good as new! Herrol (hope I got your name right) is a dimond. Truthfull, up front and no spin. If you need your gearbox doing give him a bell. If you want you can get your usual garage to take your gearbox off and he will pick it up, recon it and deliver it back to your garage (in Nottingham I belive). But also he has uses another garage (£190+vat for me) to take box off and refit it if you want. All in all High Gear Services are highly recommended!!! A1+
