Took my 2002 Japanese import BMW E39 540i to Grant & the guys yesterday to have the 20 year old transmission serviced! It's only covered 56k miles, but it's 20 years old and was well overdue! BMW state 'sealed for life'.. Rubbish! ZF (who make these boxes) state 60-80k miles for the service! They've done a superb job; the car drives super-smooth & the transmission is very quiet now and it slips between the gears effortlessly 👍🏼 These are 'The Guys' to see if you need your auto-transmission servicing and you're anywhere in the North UK!

Stripped down my broken gearbox casting and rebuilt, replacing worn clutches as required great people to talk to, done in quick style very happy with the work, i usually do all my own work but this was a bit out of my skill set, would go back if needed for more work on this or other motors. A recommendation from a friend said to use these guys and I'll be honest, I couldn't fault the service. I was in no rush for a repair, and parts were an issue, by the time I'd returned to Wales, they'd already informed me that my transmission had been inspected. Parts were ordered, an issue with getting them. Not an issue as I was in no need of the vehicle. A repair took around 3 - 4 weeks and I'll say my truck was back to how it should be, crisp shifting and running spot on. For exotics, I'd recommend them to anyone around the country. Definitely THE go to for built transmission repairs. Albeit expensive, but I'd had asked for my transmission to be upgraded. They did just that and I was happy in parting with my money. Thanks to all the staff there. I have full confidence in my truck.

Having been told my Gearbox was faulty and needed repairing by a local garage I booked it in with them. After having it on the ramp and doing their checks they confirmed it wasn't the gear box and advised me on what it could be. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!! FANTASTIC SERVICE!! I had an emergency breakdown and the AA took me to Grant at Automatic Transmissions. It was late in the day and they stayed open later waiting for me to arrive. We have a 1993 Vw automatic campervan, it had "issues" with changing gears.. We had tried for months to find someone willing to even give us a proper diagnosis. (which did cost us £)... We did have help/advise from a lovely lady called lulu on one of the forums, she sorta set the ball rolling.. Anyway, we eventually came across AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AT PRESTON.. Had a problem with lack of power in the engine. ATP did a very thorough analysis and found that air regulation was the problem. This was thoroughly explained. They could not fix the fault as it was not their specialism but they gave advice on how to proceed. They did not charge for their time and effort. I was very grateful for their help.

contacted these after my garage in Thornton ( Volks Workshop ) suggested them as my Audi TT DSG didn't feel as if the gearbox was functioning correctly. I was expecting a big bill but to my amazement , the owner who was so knowledgeable, said that he had done a reset and upgrade of the DSG software and that there would be NO charge . I recently brought my shogun in as I was told I had a leak on the gearbox and this garage came recommended. When I called back in the afternoon the mechanic took the time to bring my car back in to put it up on a ramp to show me what he had found. Turns out I actually had an oil leak on my engine and the mechanic showed me where he believed the leak was coming from, My gearbox is weeping a little oil from a seal but nothing too serious at the moment. My DSG box was faulty so I started trawling forums to self diagnose. I found the likely cause and was not happy when I saw the cost to repair so a friend recommended these guys. I initially spoke to Grant about my no drive issue with my Nissan Micra K13 JF015E CVT. I found him to very knowledgeable and the issue was permanently fixed by changing the ECU and my gearbox was opened to check the internal parts and resealed. I can’t fault their approach and advice. The price charged was also very reasonable and I would highly recommend them for any Automatic gearbox issues. Their facilities are better than any dealership and I would rather take my car there than potentially be ripped off by a dealer.

Excellent service by this company rang up as i was having problems with my 335d xdrive and visiting nunerous garages and getting charged and fobbed off and still having the problems with my 8 speed zf box GRANT THE OWNER SAVED ME ££££'S by diagnosing the problems i was having over the phone and got my car into the workshop and fixed for me the following day i have been in the motor trade for a long time and have never seen such advice and service provided at an independent garage the workshop is bigger than most main dealers. Grant and the lads know exactly what they doing at a fraction of the price i paid £50 for repairs and other companys wanted £80 just to run diagnostics and £380 plus vat to carry out what the lads here charged me £50 for worth the 120 mile round trip.

Where to start - I don't often write reviews and when i do i don't usually leave a 5* rating but my experience with these guys recently justifies both in my book. After taking my Nissan Pathfinder to these guys to replace a faulty torque converter(for which i was quoted less than the Nissan dealership) which was fitted and returned in good time, the guys had to deal with the same fault a couple weeks after but with the new converter, to which without hesitation they took the vehicle back, fitted another new converter this time coming from japan(fault being a clip inside the new converter had shattered/snapped) and refurbished my Gearbox. I honestly cant fault the way have handled my vehicle as i felt my car was a burden all the way through getting it sorted. These guys have gone above and beyond to get my car sorted. Its not the first time i have been to these guys having brought an old Auto Astra a few years ago to swap out a gearbox. The service is Great now as it was then!!!! Friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable, tell you exactly how it is and won't overcharge you. Thanks for all the work and help Jamie and the Problematic Pathfinder(which is finally working great!)

Called this company a few weeks ago regarding change of transmission fluid on my Crossfire. Spoke to Mark who was very courteous and helpful. Booked myself and took my car to have the work done... Turned up as arranged and left the car with them for a couple of hours whilst they changed the fluid.... Went to pick up my car and spoke to Mark who had done the job who showed me the old fluid and filter condition. Once again the other staff there where professional and courteous, and the workshop was tidy and clean. We took our Rover 75 with gearbox problem...this was diagnosed promptly and efficiently and these Guys clearly knew what they were talking about. I have been using Automatic Transmissions Preston since we moved back to the UK in February 2008. It is now June 2020! In that time, they have rebuilt boxes for me in three different Mk3 Granada including one of the uprated boxes for the Cosworth engined Granada, as well as a full rebuild of a box/diff in a Chrysler Grand Voyager, and various gearbox maintenance and repairs. They have also undertaken electrical fault find and repair work where gremlins in the electrics / electronics were affecting the performance of the gearbox. It is always fascinating to see what vehicles are in the workshop - anything from 1960's American cars to current model Mercs and Range Rovers, and everything in between. Yesterday, I collected the Cosworth following its rebuild. Wow! I have had this car for five years and the box has NEVER performed this well. Under gentle acceleration, everything smoothly goes from one gear to the next so gently that you have to really be looking for them to notice the changes. Under moderate acceleration, the changes are crisp and well managed. Under the sort of acceleration that Cosworth presumably intended, the gears engage firmly and confidently just before the engine redlines and one has to ease off as soon as third gear engages otherwise the speed limit on the motorway would be exceeded. A nearly 30yr old car that will still do 0-60 in less than 8secs as the manufacturer intended. Fourth gear and Torque Convertor lockup engage exactly where they should, thus making a 2.9 normally aspirated performance V6 quite economical for its age! I have a huge smile on my face following this rebuild. A big thank you to Grant and his staff. Anyone reading this can take their car to Automatic Transmissions Preston knowing that they know their stuff and can fix your problem.

If i could give more stars i would, got referred to them by a friend who has a similar car to me, i had my gearbox fail (dq200) 5th 6th and 7th were making like a grinding noise, messaged them on facebook asked for a rough estimate on cost, i then asked the same day when i could get the car booked in, their response was the same afternoon, i was in shock, limped my car to them around 4pm on a tuesday, explained to the man in reception what the problem was handed my key over, thats the end of that, i messaged them around lunchtime 2 days later asking if they have an update on when my car would be ready, they replied straight away saying its just on a road test now, then 2 minutes later got another message saying its ready for picking up, so i then made my way back to them they explained what had actually happened and then handed my key back to me after payment and i was on my way again in just under 2 days, to remove a gearbox get the parts repair the car and then road test it, for anyone in the northwest i highly highly recommend these guys in preston, very well priced and very quick at their job also very professional.
