Reviews of Sing and Sign Bedfordshire and St Neots - baby and toddler signing classes

I don't think I've recommended anything as much as I have Sing & Sign classes; it is by far the best money we spent on anything baby-related and I have only amazing things to say about it. We started Sing & Sign when my little one was about 8 months and several things happened in quick succession: her focus improved when watching (she was clearly fascinated), her first signs came in only a few weeks after ("milk" and "more") and then she started to sing, which she hadn't done before! I really enjoyed the songs and sung them all the time during our day so I think this did cement both the songs and the signs. We continued onto Stage 2 as she grew older and all I can say is that I think it helped us communicate far more efficiently from early on and so we avoided a lot of frustrations and tantrums. I went on to learn more sign from BSL and still use them now as she's nearing 2 years old, mostly to emphasise what I'm saying. She must know more than 200 signs and I'm convinced signing jumpstarted all of her communication. I was sure her speech would be delayed as we are a bilingual household but on the contrary, she sang the songs non-stop and her speech, comprehension and communication is really fantastic. I'm so proud of her and it's due in large part to the Sing & Sign classes.
We started the classes online in spring 2021 as were still cautious due to the pandemic, moved to in-person with Julie (who is phenomenal) and continued online when she went to nursery. We got her a Jessie Cat for Christmas and I've never seen her so elated - it's been a love story ever since. I've only stopped now as she has very clearly signalled to me she had mastered the content and was ready to move on. I'll be coming back to it with my second child, though; I can't wait!

Really worth the money and time. My little one really enjoys the classes and everything we learn is used at home. The whole family have enjoyed having two-way communication with the baby rather than waiting for all the words to develop.
Julie is lovely and clearly loves what she does which comes through in every session!

Highly recommended! We now have a little chatterbox on our hands and I'm positive that his early communication was largely due to doing Sing and Sign classes. Julie is great and even during lockdowns, the classes were really fun. My son really looked forward to them every week.

Julie is an absolutely amazing teacher. She engages the little ones and really encourages them in their attempts at signing. We absolutely adore the classes and the extra online sessions in the week is a brilliant bonus. Even with my lax approach to signing at home, my son has picked up so much and surprises us with what he can understand and respond to. If I only picked one baby class in the future, this would be it.

I found Julie's classes online and I'm so happy I did. We started when my daughter was 6 months old with a few face to face classes, then the second lockdown happened and we moved to zoom. Finally, aged 16 months, we were able to get back to real life classes again. We completed two terms of Stage 1 and three of Stage 2 in that time and both types of class were excellent. Julie is a fabulous teacher with an extensive knowledge of British sign language. The course content is both fun and educational and my little girl fell in love with Jessie Cat! She is now both an excellent signer and talker at 20 months...Best thing we ever did ❤

I cannot recommend Sing and Sign classes enough. This is by far and away the best thing we have done with our baby. There are so many lovely and original songs which make signing memorable and fun. It’s something you can apply to everyday life and helps ease potentially stressful situations, such as nappy changing and putting baby in to car seat. It’s so incredibly rewarding when the babies start signing back.
Julie is extremely knowledgeable and creates a friendly relaxed atmosphere in class, enabling the babies to just be themselves and explore safely. There is so much support, whether that be by Zoom, email or the Facebook groups. We really feel part of the Jessie Cat family!
We started sing and sign classes in first lockdown, mainly because there wasn’t anything else running. Classes were being held virtually and we did the 10 week @Home Babes class which had a weekly Zoom call. We then moved on to Stage 1 @Home and repeated that a couple of times, before finally being able to attend face-to-face classes when lockdown restrictions were lifted. We have now signed up to Stage 2 and are looking forward to that in the new year.

Julie is an absolute diamond with the children with many, many years of experience running classes in the local area. Friendly and knowledgeable with an extensive background in BSL as well as baby signing, she never failed to have an answer for us or patience to talk over things. In addition, Julie has spared no effort to keep parents and children safe while running classes during the pandemic, utilising sensible measures while still incorporating all the fun of sing and sign.
I attended Babes, Stage 1 and Stage 2 pre-Covid and post-Covid with my twins, intermittently accompanied by their grandmother. Julie was kind and helpful during all the classes, and the children looked forward to their classes every week. By the time we graduated from the classes, not only were the children advanced in their spoken vocabulary for their age, they also had even more 'words' than that as signs. Being able to communicate through various signs before they were physically able to talk helped avoid countless tantrums and opened a window into their world; deciphering that they are crying because they're scared or want milk or a particular colour of cup is priceless, as is the memory that your 10 month old son thinks there's an elephant upstairs when he hears loud snoring and knowing that's why he's worried.
If you are going to do just one baby class, baby signing is definitely the class to choose and no-one is better at it than Julie with Sing and Sign.
