Reviews of Apple Tree Childrens Cafe

I have been there couple of times with my 2yr old. I would say this is a lovely café where I can relax and have chat with other mums friends whilst the kids play. I would recommend it, however age range is toddlers 1 to 3 years old. Older kids could get bored easily.

We had our daughter’s second birthday at Apple Tree in Herne Hill and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The staff were so helpful in the lead up to the party and on the day. The space is amazing if you want to do a party that works for both small children and adults as the kids can run around easily while the parents chat. You can even bring your own cold food, drink and alcohol. We did a breakfast one with Buck’s Fizz and it was great.

A nice, little cafe with mini soft play facilities for kids. However, too many parents in the arena. Parents should not invade, and it would be better to reduce the quota since there were too many people when we were there. Overall okay.

The price per 2 hour play:
1-5 year olds £5
6mths-1 year old £3
0-6mths free
Around this area of Hern Hill the parking restrictions hit 12-2pm in the back streets and it will cost you over £6 for those two hours as far as I know. So the Apple Tree Cafe is mostly relying on local costumers and those who come by public transport.
When we arrived this morning around 10.30am it was crowded. Unfortunately we didn't notice the sign in the back saying: we are full, please come back later. The sign on the door said open. The buggies were piled up high, even with a "fold if possible" policy all the tables, chairs and the two benches were occupied (benches with coats and bags, I admit). More seating area would be fantastic and perhaps different level coat hooks (lower for kids/ higher for adults) on the wall with the beautiful painting of a tree and deer so the benches can be free to sit on.
Some of the carers I spoke to were hinting a multiple children discount would be a great idea. Many pointed out the potential health hazards for children still in the oral stage. We found we had to secure buttons, crayons, cardboard, paper and foil from the little ones. Some of the visitors were inconsiderate by leaving the gate open.
I think the staff were a little stressed by the volume of people but I am sure it will continue to thrive with the locals.

My 18 month enjoys the cafe, the soft play is a good size for them and have a nice selection of toys. The coffee and cakes are also good and the staff are friendly

I have to say I was disappointed with the offering for babies/non-walkers. On the website it promises sensory baskets but all I was directed to was a mat in the corner with a very small selection of old looking plastic blocks/teethers. It was also fairly manic, and I believe there were too many people there to be properly covid secure. There seemed only one person working there and they were completely rushed off their feet with food/drink orders (the coffee was lovely). I was hoping that my daughter who is 9 months and practicisng crawling would have had a chance to explore the soft play area with me by her side, but she definitely would have been trampled (it said 4 children at a time in the play area but there were at least 8-10 when I was there). I suppose the main focus is toddlers and smaller children tend to be siblings, but I wonder whether they would consider blocking out certain times of the day for under 1s to allow them to have a chance to roam a little more, and also upping the quality of the toys available for smaller babies. Also, during covid I think less people should be allowed in at one time, and more staff should be on to ensure safety.

Nice and cosy kids café. Quite pricey compared to others.

A nice set up but pretty limited for babies. Also disappointingly well over capacity - clearly way more adults per child than there should be, and no one checking bookings overall. Did not feel particularly covid secure, sadly.

Had my son’s birthday party here and it was just perfect! My toddler had the best time and we loved seeing his happy face celebrating with his friends. All the parents attending were pleasantly surprised with the space. Love that its all open and you can see your kids from any point. Kids food was delicious and healthy, was happily eaten by all the children. We also had a vegan dietary requirement that was well taken care of. The staff member on the day was very helpful and accommodating for all our needs, so pleasant. We had excellent communication from the start to organise the party and the whole process was really easy. Loved the times available for parties also. We chose the morning session as we have a baby also and it fit in well with nap times. Compared to other children party places in the area Apple Tree is reasonably priced and worth every penny if you ask me. Everything was clean and tidy. Kids and parents had a great time. Thanks so much Emily and your team!

Fun hour for kids with coffee and cake for mums and lots of kid friendly meals on offer.

Play area is good. Gives an hours break from a very hyper 2 year old..
M. A.
Does private parties. Probably better for young children than their parents!

We hired the cafe for a birthday party for my 3 year old. Everybody had a great time. The space was great as we were always able to see the kids having fun whilst chatting to other parents in a slightly separate area to the soft play.
The staff were lovely, the food was ideal, and the place was all clean and tidy. It worked very well.

Absolutely darling idea. Clean and well lit. Great menu choices appropriate from weaning baby to adult. My 2 year old and I spent 2.5 happy hours here and the layout is smart and safe enough to mean that I could eat and watch my little man play. Which for me totally justified the £5 admission fee. Would be thrilled to return 😁

We hired the Apple Tree Cafe for my daughter's 2nd birthday after going to a few other parties there. Very easy to organise, the place was ready for us to set up when we got there. Staff were super helpful and organised both on the day and Emily was very responsive to my booking request and any questions I had beforehand. Everyone had a fantastic time, children and adults! It's a great space for little ones and there are plenty of toys elsewhere for babies too small to use the soft play. My in-laws take my daughter there fairly regularly during the week and they love it, it's always clean and a fantastic place for little ones to play.

Lovely place but no parking for bikes, side road full of parked car and no cycling lane. Not great for little cyclists

First time visiting this play cafe. And I wasn't that impressed iam afraid it has more space for table and chairs to eat on than actual play space, they have a climbing frame which as most of the children were still very young they only had the ball pit and the space on the mat. The toys which was the first thing my grandchild went to was dirty and some were even broken, now if it is meant to have batteries in it put them in if they are broken throw them away it is not a nice look and I didn't make my grandchild play with them.
The food side looked good but they should cover the cakes etc on display as everyone is walking past breathing on them coughing etc not hygienic. We didn't eat in as thought it was just a bit to expensive for what you was getting so went to lunch up the road.
The wall could do with some more murals on it to brighten it up.
It was OK I may go back again as it has a warm friendly vibe about it and everyone was polite.

We hired the cafe for my son's 3rd birthday party. It was a really lovely venue and it worked for the children and adults alike. The kids burnt off some energy in the soft play area and the adults enjoyed some prosecco/beers which we were allowed to bring in. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and everyone commented on what a great party it was.

I am a regular visitor to Appletree. My 3 year old absolutely loves it, and it works perfectly as a place to hang out with babies and toddlers. The toys and facilities are plentiful and well looked after, and there's a good rotation of new activities. It's bright and airy and the coffee is great. I'm very surprised to see some of the negative reviews because I only experience exceptionally friendly service and a very clean environment. We also hosted my daughter's birthday party there recently which was absolutely brilliant. The food provided was perfect, it was very easy to organise and it really delivered for the kids and the adults too, who could enjoy a glass of prosecco while the kids were well entertained and safe.

Good but small and slightly expensive
My 2 year old enjoyed it. I would not say it's a soft play venue though as this is very small. Other play activities do help. Food very nice if slightly expensive. Such a shame closed on Saturday afternoon and Sunday's when you need it most.

We’ve been to play at Apple Tree a couple of times and had a lovely time. Coffee is delicious and twins enjoyed the soft play. We also enquired about having a party there and have been very impressed by their responsiveness (unfortunately unable to have the party so can’t comment on that yet but hope to get invited to one!!)

Not sure of the £5 admission fee, went there for my friends kid party 🎉. The place is clean great menu for kids..should be because it’s a kids cafe. I felt the cafe felt short of space for kids to play, on the flip side it meant my friend could watch her little girl.
The food definitely over priced, but I think it’s a great place for parents to let go a bit watching their kids play in the soft toy area
A. B.
Tough to give a rating given covid rules but my 2 year old had a great hour mainly in the soft play, nice welcome, we both enjoyed the cookie but coffee was far too hot!!
s. r.
Great location and nice place to hang out with the kids. Coffee tastes delicious and their offer of £5 coffee/tea +cake is just great! Very good place to meet with some mums while the little ones play, although I found it slightly expensive
H. K.
Lovely place for the kids. I brought my 2 year old and 4 year old and they loved it and the food was great. Will definatly coming back. Great covid measure in place as well. Not to busy.
S. K.
Really great idea but so expensive considering how small the space is. Decent menu and good variety of toys etc. Very awkward to navigate or try to get a seat where you can safely watch the kids whilst enjoying a coffee.
V. M.
My 23 months boy love it. Many things to keep him distracted. I loved their banana bread, will definitely come back.
S. E.
Fun place for soft play and great selection of toys. Good food for adults and kids/babies. I felt reassured with the cleanliness and safety around covid.
K. J.
Great! We had our daughter’s first birthday party here and it was perfect. The kids loved it - delicious food and lots of variety in the play area. Thoroughly recommend!
K. I.
My 4 year old granddaughter had two hours of fun in the soft play area. However, the refreshments are overpriced and a visit rarely costs less than £15 with the £5 admission, two drinks, and maybe a cake or a sandwich.
M. H.
My baby and me love this place! we spend many hours there since it give us the opportunity to get out and do something fun and different. Great idea, nice staffs, food is ok, coffee is good!
T. W.
Lovely place that's nice for grown ups as well as little ones :) Lots of thoughtful touches such as toys, floor cushions and a bouncer in the loo so you can go hands-free! Friendly staff and strong Volcano coffee are also appreciated.
J. G.
I love this place, it is perfect for my 3 month old and 3 year old. The staff are friendly and it is clean and bright inside. They also do great coffee. Can't wait to go back!
R. H.
Lots of toys to play with. It's very safe and clean. Quite small though, so it gets a little cramped when there are lots of children in the soft play area.
C. C.
Wonderful little cafe with great cakes, coffee, and play area. I can tell by just observing that the owner(s)/employees work hard to keep the place clean, organised, safe, and running smoothly.
L. L.
Lovely place for toddlers, can enjoy a coffee while little one having fun!
P. C.
Lovely place for toddlers to have a play and mums to have a coffee. It's a small space, so can get busy at times.
C. R.
Great space for small gatherings. We visited for a birthday party and it was great. The prices for drop ins seem reasonable for a 2 hour play session too.
D. A.
Mind blowingly good coffee. Must admit i'd never heard of Vocano beans before. Very friendly staff, exactly what an uncle like me needs to entertain his neices without having to think too hard :) They loved the soft play and the dressing up and I loved the coffee.
I. C.
First time we've been to this place,it was good for the older children but not the smaller ones my grandson is only 10 months, also it was very noisy, staff were very good though
H. M.
Fantastic children’s cafe with ball pit, soft play, role-play and reading corner, and great coffee! Very friendly atmosphere.

Very sweet small soft play perfect for younger kids. Nice coffee and some healthier food options

K. B.
Perfect atmosphere for my daughter and I. Reasonable prices for the food which is great and staff are lovely
K. c.
Bit pricey for what it is it ain't worth £5 as its tiny not much soft play
C. T.
Nice and cosy. Helpful staff. A bit too small to get a perfect five score.
M. T.
Great place. On the expensive side but it offers a handy choice when it's raining
D. H.
Great place for parents and children to just relax, have a coffee and some great fun

Clean and functional, it had all we needed for a 4 year old birthday party

(Translated) Nice atmosphere, but too many people, barely walkable and very cold. My children were warm and yet their hands were cold.
(Original)
Ambiente agradable, pero demasiada gente, apenas se podía caminar y muy frío. Mis niños estaban abrigados y aún así sus manos eran frías.
