Great local bakery on the high street in Bedford. The only place that still sells the traditional Bedfordshire Clangers. Picked up a few on a recent visit and a local dessert ‘Chocolate toothpaste’. Both are great. The Bedfordshire Clanger would probably be slightly better warm for my tastes but the chocolate toothpaste (although squashed from our journey home) was delicious.

Where better to try the Bedfordshire Clanger than at its home? This bakery has been going since 1928 stunning visitors with its high quality hand made bread using only local ingredients.

Absolutely wonderfull. Old style hearty home cooking. With the most amazing sweats for desert. And the staff just fits right into the picture of how shops used to be and made one feel just at home with a nice word for everybody. So for the locals a sure must to get up the energy not only for the Saturday morning DIY project but any time of the day the right thing to keep going. And for the travelers it is the best proof how good English home cooking really is. And this is meant exactly how I mean it. Thanks Mandy.
