Reviews of Mount Fuji
L.
The staff are lovely. I did a takeaway and asked if the items could be delivered to me outside in the sunshine as I wanted to sit on the wooden seats opposite. They were more than happy to do that.
The restaurant is hidden away by the walk down on the ramp by the back of the Bullring by the Church. Because I’m not familiar with Japanese dishes I asked lots of questions. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. I picked up a loyalty card because the chances are I will go there again.
Ooo.. there’s a little selection of Japanese spices and snacks that you might look for in a supermarket.

A real gem of a place. It's a rare find, such a lovely spot so close to the bullring that isn't all flash. This place has real heart, and that makes the food so much better.
We had the soft shell crab sushi roll (Spider roll) Teriyaki Salmon Bento, and Tonkotsu Ramen. Each dish was amazing, and a big portion for the price, we split everything between two but it was easily too much for us, though we wished we could eat more.
The tonkotsu comes with 2 fried gyoza - eat them first so the soup doesn't make them too soggy. On that note, I haven't had Tonkotsu this good for a long time - I highly recommend it, particularly if you've had a bad day - this is a soup that heals the soul.
The staff were helpful, attentive and always had a smile despite being busy. I recommend sitting at the bar facing the window. It's nice to people watch, and you can see Selfridges and the Clock tower, a nice little spot.
Yup, we'll be back for sure. ✌️

My husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday late. We had bento boxes and spicy nigiris.
The foods are excellent for the price. The place is very clean, quiet and cosy. We love the minimalist ambience! The staffs are nice and friendly. As we are both introverts, the place suits us. You take your time while you eat, and no need to stress out.
We will come again for other personal celebrations.

Excellent small and cosy Japanese style restaurant. Some lovely options on the menu and a good selection. Staff friendly and welcoming, and service is very good. Excellent Ramen and the Bento boxes come in a few different varieties. Reasonably priced for location. Expect to be very full for £15-20 per head. Very good option for a lunch stop or after work of you want to take more time and explore all the menu options.

I love this place every time I go the staff are kind and helpful and the food is amazing the tuna sashimi melts on the tongue its a must try
T. S.
We had Tonkotsu Ramen and chicken curry udon noodles, miso soup and rice, all very delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend and would go again.
J. B.
The best Japanese food I've ever tasted! The Miso soup was so authentic and was the best I ever had, the ramen was perfect and the gyoza inside of it is out of this world! The sushi was also fantastic, staff were also friendly and kind throughout our entire stay. So glad I came here than wagamamas
s. r.
Amazing restaurant! Food is insane, we ordered one bento box and some sushi, the ingredients were fresh and it was all delicious. The staff were very friendly. Would 100% recommend
M. K.
Good service. The ramen and sushi were really good. You get a big portion for the price. I would recommend.
W.
Ramen noodle worth trying. Bento box has large variety of selection. Green tea latte is great if you like matcha flavour! Not bad overall.
L. R.
Came here with a friend, the food was lovely, the sushi selection I got was filling and great quality.
M. Z.
I absolutely love this restaurant! The staff are friendly and attentive. The prices of the meals are generous and worth the food you receive. I am learning Japanese, and if I ask and the waiter/waitress can speak Japanese, they have allowed me to order in Japanese. Every time I go, I try a new option, but the Chicken Teriyaki Donburi rice bowl is my favourite.

Amazing Kyuushuu pork ramen. For my first experience with Japanese food, this was an absolute feast in a comfortable and warm small restaurant - I have to highlight the poor customer service however. Sadly I ended up waiting almost an hour for a simple dessert, which, for its price wasn't even remotely outstanding. When I finally decided that it was time to ask someone about it, I got the food in three minutes, but received no apology or questions as to confirm the confusion about my order - it seems then that there was no confusion, they simply forgot to serve me my food and did not think it would only be appropriate to say a tiny sorry even. The staff overall felt unwelcoming and uninterested in accommodating to the customers' needs, which makes me rather motivated now to explore the contender Japanese restaurants in Birmingham instead.

Came here seven years or so ago and enjoyed it. Back in Birmingham for work and there was only one place I wanted to go.
Glad to see it still open. Relaxed and bubbling atmosphere, like a lofi / ASMR background noise soundtrack. Just the right level of noise and buzz.
The food is amazing. Beautiful to eat and look at, definitely not in short supply either. £20 and you'll be full, happy and calm.
O. (.
Enjoyed my experience here today.. I ordered the Tokyo chicken shoyu based ramen - portion sizes were very decent so much flavour and richness in the broth.
I also ordered the chicken & veg gyoza with the soy sauce on the side and it was filled with flavour and fresh!
If you're feeling Japanese food with an authentic taste to it pay this place a visit you won't be disappointed!
C. C.
My favourite Japanese restaurant I love wagamammas but it's not a scratch on how wonderful this restaurant is. The staff are utterly delightful and a pleasure to be around, the food is absolutely incredible and so quickly served. The only issue is the seating as the restaurant is quite small so sometimes it can be an issue if popping by without reserving a space. But other than that an incredible experience I would advise any day.
Z.
Amazing food with really generous portions and lovely staff!
s. c.
The food and esthetic of this place was outstanding. The closest I have been too eating in Japan since I left. If you have a chance stop in and enjoy the ramen it will fill you with joy.
A. R.
Been a few times and the food is always amazing! Fresh, high quality and delicious. I'm always super happy when i come out. Definitely recommend
M.
Food was decent but the restaurant had such a strong small of stale fried oil. We all felt very smelly by the time we left and for this reason alone won't be going back.
L. F.
Absolutely delicious food - we couldn't fault it! Service was a little slow but we were having a relaxed day out so suited us fine. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for something tasty!
P. G.
Fantastic healthy and clean food! Great food, great staff! I'd recommend a bento box for any occasion! (Also you can get a coke float! Tell me another restaurant that does coke floats in Birmingham. I dare ya!)
C. K.
Really nice service, and great food! The portions are huge, and come out quickly too.
J. C.
The food quality is unexpectedly good, my kids also love the kid's bentos we ordered for them. Recommended
J.
Really good food. Very enjoyable. Reasonable prices. Would like to go again. Make. Gripe is how small the place is! My group of six struggled. But we made it work!
B. P.
This place is an absolute gem! Both me and my colleague were glad of our decision to go here. As you can see our Chicken Teriyaki & prawn Bento box and the Pork Bento Box looked amazing and tasted sensational. The menu was extensive with sushi, ramen and curry choices. I want to go back to try more!
S. L.
Amazing bento boxes. Very recommended. Much more genuine than other "Japanese" restaurants I've been to.
R. T.
The broth was certainly something I haven't tried before. It had a very creamy taste but was still quite pleasant. The Takoyaki was good but not traditional at all since it was deep fried. Overall good, few complaints.
D.
Really lovely food and very friendly staff.
I had the katsu curry and really enjoyed it!
J. D.
We had some excellent sushi, takoyaki and tonkotsu ramen. All great. Would definitely eat here again
A. J.
Simply the best bento boxes in Birmingham
Update 9.5.22
Still very very good. So easy to over eat. Must try spot.
T. P.
Tried both Sushi and Bento here, not once been disappointed. Everything is fresh and delicious, staff are friendly and helpful. I’ve been 5+ times over the last year.
P. R.
It's my favourite restaurant and I visit frequently, agedashi tofu is my favourite dish 🥰 I reccomend it to everyone, staff is super lovely aswell.
B. D.
Incredible little restaurant!! Had originally planned to go to Wagamamas but saw the queue outside and took a chance with Mount Fuji. So glad we chose to come here instead. We were seated immediately by a lovely lady on front of house. Ordering was a breeze and food arrived at the table promptly. All of the food was excellent, and portion sizes were so big we had to ask for a takeaway box as we didn't want to leave any of it. Amazing food and staff, can't fault!
f.
Been coming here many years
Great food and fair pricing.
I recommend a Bento Box and the Teriyaki sauce
F.
Not scare to say after going to many Japanese restaurants that this is probably the best I have been or at least the one that has brought me back to Japan.
S. 0.
Absolutely love this restaurant, the food is amazing and the staff are really friendly.
E. H.
Lovely authentic food, but service was poor & slow. Had to ask a couple of times for cutlery
T. S.
My favourite Japanese restaurant outside Japan. Very reasonable prices, food outstanding. Staff amazing. A1
c. K.
I've been coming to this restaurant for over ten years. The last few visits the servers have visibly favourd whatever friend I bring along and patronise me about forks and send dirty looks. Good food but your ew team are rubbish at their jobs and feel racist.
M.
Beautiful. Had the squid balls (which are amazing) and the chicken Tokyo ramen (a lot to eat!)
C.
Lovely calm environment, excellent food . We will be back!
C. E.
Fantastic authentic Japanese food. Well priced, beautifully cooked and presented, friendly and helpful staff, I'll definitely be back.
M. D.
Very nice place. Superlative food and super friendly staff! Fair prices and big portions.
I am going to be back very soon! 10/10
B. L.
Amazing food and great service. The sushi was delicious and the chicken dishes are very good. Highly recommend!
P.
Been there twice and loved it. I do like the bento boxes and the ramen, however I do prefer more noodles in mine. Nevertheless the experience was pleasant and the price is alright for the whole experience.
l. (.
Best Japanese place in Birmingham, Very friendly staff, always great service, amazing food and great value for money, always my go to when I’m craving Japanese food, big recommendation is the terryaki chicken bento box! Very authentic Japanese restaurant,
D. K.
My favourite Ramen restaurant! Best Ramen to date!
S. F.
Service is good but food kinda sucks for the price
A. B.
I went there during most of 2019 and beginning of 2020 before lockdown, the people there were very friendly to me and the space is very simple and comforting, it has a great mood. I had the great opportunity to go to Tokyo before and being in this facility reminds me of the ambient I felt in Tokyo restaurants. The food is wonderful and I've tried to have many different dishes, I find myself going back to the Ramen. I think about this store often during the pandemic and really hope the staff are doing ok, cheers
Y. L.
The best ramen I've had in Birmingham.
M. W.
Their bento boxes are amazing! Highly reccomend!
I.
Honestly the best food I’ve ever had! I’ve returned so many times with my family and friends and we all love it! Amazing food and lovely staff. Highly recommend!
C. D.
Every time we go to Mount Fuji the service is lovely and the food never ever disappoints.
We struggled finding a nice Ramon outside of Japan for ages but the Tonkotsu Ramon at Mount Fuji is on par with what we ate in Japan. 🗻
This place is a 5+💫 over and over for us.
Can't wait until we can come and eat with you again.
E. x.
I'm going to just say that their food is AMAZING. Defo worth your money although a bit pricey, its worth the treat! The ramen is soo tasty aswell as the bento boxes and the chicken! They fry the chicken to perfection to get that thick, juicy texture. A MUST TRY
G. D.
Food is very good, I enjoyed it very much. Service was pretty poor though.
L.
Amazing chicken teriyaki donburi!
E. L.
The food wasn’t bad. It’s been around 6 years since I came here and not much I can remember has changed. The takoyaki octopus balls were very good, although they we not traditional made the flavor was spot on. The eel bento box was mediocre, the chicken it came with was actually better than the eel itself. Besides the food the service was great.
I. N.
Took a bit for my food to arrive, but it was so worth it. Authentic Japanese cuisine, drinks included. The place looks great, the food is delicious and dining here is a unique experience. It's slightly pricey compared to other nearby restaurants, but it's definitely worth it.
K. K.
This was ok. Food was nice enough
U. L.
Went here with my girlfriend on a Sunday evening. We found the atmosphere to be nice and cosy, and service fairly swift.
I had the tonkatsu curry and she had a teriyaki donburi. The katsu sauce was good and I found the amount of food was just right for the price.
As a pair of introverts we got on well with our server Sakiko, who was quietly welcoming and attentive, without being overbearing or interrupting our time together.
Recommended and would definitely return for another visit.
D. L.
So far the best place for bento meals in the city centre of Birmingham. They offer sushi and sashimi as well as curry and ramen dishes, but I feel that there other places you could go to for those. The place is small and cosy and it's great for hanging out with a couple friends the place has a really nice environment too. It can get a little busy in the evenings so beware of that if noise isn't your thing.
What's lacking is probably that the waiting staff probably don't check the dining area frequently enough to tend to tables yet to be cleared nor to see if customers need anything else, its nice if you're looking to just be left alone and it isn't difficult to get their attention.
The place accepts both card and cash. Unsure of American Express and I'm aware of a loyalty card they do if you ever become a regular.
M. W.
Must confess we've become ramen snobs since a recent trip to Japan. We didn't expect such good, authentic tasting ramen, back in Blighty, definitely not in the heart of Birmingham. But the Tonkotsu broth here is amazing!!! Be warned though, if you opt for the spicy version (which I did), expect to have no eyebrows left!!! It is seriously spicy! The lovely lady who served us, assured me that next time I can ask for it less spicy if I like. I wasn't offended... I know when I've been beaten!
Friendly staff, quick service and authentic dishes. Recommended!
T. B.
I like this place because it is easily grabbed and go and very affordable fast food. The place sells a variety of healthy options of all Japanese foods. There is also a bar that sells Japanese curries and rolls. There is a lot of sushi to pick on the shelves and in the counter and the good thing about Mount Fuji is there special sushi, very delicious. Absolutely a great place for Japanese foods. It is the best sushi that I ever tasted.
P.
Food is consistently delicious and service is always efficient. The Takoyaki is amazing and a must try. It's a small place so worth calling ahead if you are a large group.
M. C.
Had lunch at Mount Fuji on the bank holiday Monday. We found the food to be very good and the sushi was far more fresh than some of the other places in the area. My son had the tempura, who is a picky eater at 4.5 years old, and he really liked it. The service was very good, no waiting at all despite the restaurant being 75% full, and always with a smile.
I would definitely go back to Mount Fuji.
C. H. (.
Authentic, delicious Japanese food. Diverse menu, colourful dishes, appetising smells. Mount Fuji lets you experience Japanese food that isn't just another fast sushi. It gets busy during the evening when people get off work and seeing strangers eating next to eachother on the high chairs reminds me of a cliche picture from any Japanese diner film.
It is expensive but it is located in the centre of Birmingham so I feel like that has to do with the maintenance costs. Personally I found the sushi to be priced reasonably, but those of you that want to eat a bento box might be stung by the price. Food is delicious so if you are a fan of Japanese cuisine, then the price is worth it.

Japan’s Mt. Fuji is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s the country’s tallest peak, at 3,776 meters. A pilgrimage site for centuries, it’s considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes remain a popular activity. Its iconic profile is the subject of numerous works of art, notably Edo Period prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige. ― Google

Our experience was not great but we are unsure if this was just the time we visited or if it like this in general. The service was terrible, we had to grab our own menus and retrieve someone to take our order. Our table had not been cleaned, nor was cleaned whilst we sat and ate. There were dirty napkins everywhere, including one stuffed into the wall.
G. G.
The sushi was great whilst I was eating it and the price was okay, but I felt very unpleasant within 15 minutes of leaving. This may of had to do with me ordering an apple juice and exercising shortly after, but I don't think I'll risk it again.
A. T.
I went there in 2008 for my 28th birthday and I absolutely loved it. Its a proper Japanese restaurant and we had a Bento box meal each which was very enjoyable and we have the Sapporo beer each which did compliment our dinner nicely. The Japanese woman steward was helpful and even offered my accomplice a western cutlery set of a knife and fork as she never used chopsticks before. She offered to show us how to use the chopsticks although I use these often when eating Japanese food anyway. It was a great day, the prices and the service is what you can expect from a Japanese outlet. It is NOT a fast food place and nothing is rushed either. Everything is done at a relaxed pace, just as I like it. I would use again if I ever pass by that way when passing through Birmingham.

Amazing quality food, good portion sizes friendly and helpful staff for my first time properly eating japanese food
G. R. W.
The best and the most authentic Japanese restaurant I had visited in UK. The options in the menu may be limited but the food quality of the bento and the sushi is mind-blowing. The small side dishes within the bento are well-prepared and delicious, unlike other Japanese restaurants (which claim to be authentic), that use Edamame or salad as the side dishes. The ingredients used for the food are fresh, unlike other restaurants which serve raw fish that tastes 'fishy' on sushi. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will definitely be back for more wherever I visit Birmingham!
M. B.
Delicious food, me and wife's all time favourite restaurant when we visit Birmingham
R. T.
Had lunch here, and the food was excellent. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will be coming back to try something different on the menu!
S. B.
My friend and I visited this restaurant for lunch. We're both huge fans of Japanese cuisine and have eaten in a lot of Japanese restaurants. Mt. Fuji is up there with the best. We both had Bento boxes which were simply packed with flavour and were very filling. Highly recommended!
f. f.
I think this restaurant is brilliant, and I recommend people 100% to go their. I brought a carry shrimp. The only bad thing about it it was a bit salty. But the sushi was fantastic.I have never eaten a sushi better than that.
P. C.
Always a pleasure to visit for a rare treat.
M. A.
Popped in for lunch at 12pm on a Friday and there were plenty of seats. Lots of choice and they also had a children's meal in a Bullet Train bento box. We all enjoyed our meals and had good service from the staff.
S. (.
Brilliant small scale restaurant serving traditional Japanese cuisine in a variety of styles.
S. G.
Authentic and reasonably priced Japanese food.
a. g.
Well priced and very good portion sizes. The kara age was such a huge potion. The ramen was great and the matcha smoothie was amazing!
A. A.
Food was amazing so was the ambience, felt really authentic. The chocolate mouse desert was also amazing, deffo recommend this place!!!!
J. P.
Incredible fresh food, great portions and exceptional service!
A. A.
The bento boxes are worth trying. Delicious. The staff a very helpful and will explain everything with patience and a smile.
K. S.
The portion size of my noodles was too small for the price which was quite disappointing. Although the food itself was nice. Another thing was that a plate of one of our friends came 10min before everyone else.
M. R.
Great food, friendly atmosphere, friendly staff.
D. W.
Loved us I had traditional Sapporo asahi beer and it brings me back to when I travelled to Japan in 2018 I highly recommend It the staff are very friendly
P. M.
Good food and pleasant staff! I thought the food was quite nice but my Japanese friends that I was with found it just above average.
N. I.
The starters/appetizers were nice as well as the dessert, but the bento box was extremely disappointing as half of it was English food that made no sense and the teriyaki chicken tasted awful.
S. Q.
very expansive place. Service also not as good as the taste of the food. Bunto box is one of my favorite with some chef recommended sushi.
C. R.
Beautiful little restaurant with great food and excellent service. The presentation of the food is impeccable I absolutely loved my first experience here and I would definitely recommend to anyone!

Very nice food, average service, average prices for Birmingham city centre, small size inside so there is not a load of seating
S. W.
I love the food and service here. The food presentation is awesome and tastes great. Great for lunch or a quick bite in the evening.
K. B.
Really good food and always nice in there
M. K.
Used to be our favourite eat out spot until we discovered our fish meals actually get fried in the same oil as meat/pork /poultry 👎😔
J. K.
Service was underwhelming, and the food was similarly mediocre. Come away disappointed and only a 4 star food hygiene rating.
T. R. P. (.
Good place but can be expensive, but food wise it’s much better then yo sushi !
P. S.
Fantastic food and nice atmosphere as always. Been here countless times and never been disappointed.

Delicious!!! Super satisfied with the Tonkotsu Kyushu Ramen and Mount Fuji Giant Prawn Ramen. Perfect choice during cold weather. Service was great. The only thing I have to make people aware is that food can come out pretty slow. So, be prepared.

(Translated) I don't think there's anything wrong with rice (rice). I don't know because I haven't tried anything else, but ^^ ;; The staff was just plain. After ordering, serving, and asking about ramen broth, the answer was good ... The menu I ordered was chicken teriyaki + tempura + sushi bento, but everything was fine except sushi. The tempura was also crispy.

(Translated) The location is not very good to find, but the Japanese food is still quite authentic ~ the taste of the fixed food and sushi is good ~ there is a squid roll squid rice ~ but the price is slightly expensive ~

位置不太好找,但日本菜做的还是比较地道的~定食和寿司做的味道都不错~还有鳗鱼卷鳗鱼饭~只不过价格稍贵~
