Reviews of The Assembly Bakery

I cannot recommend this place enough, the beef pasty was soft and moist, the inside was full of meat but it didn’t feel heavy which was nice. The almond croissant is one of the best croissant I tried so far (and I tried lots). Good variety and nice customer service. Thank you!

12:00 Weekdays, that is the only thing that matters, get there on time as they sell out fast, ask for the meat or vegan option, just one choice daily of each so you take what they have but trust me it won't matter, absolutely stunning hand made sandwiches, fresh focaccia bread, sourdough loaf, pork belly with apple and rocket, piri piri chicken, hand cut ham and cheddar with mustard mayo, bbq pulled pork, curried cauliflower, what ever the filling they are huge and stacked high.
The fresh bread is out of this world, the pastries and savouries are amazing and great for a quick tasty bite.
The sweets are amazing standard and vegan options on most things, but, if they have the salted caramel and white chocolate bread and butter puddings for sale then don't pass up the chance of one of these insanely delicious desserts.
A hidden gem in Old Market that you need to visit!!!

Real shame as I used to love this bakery and would consistently rate 5 star. The sourdough now lacks flavour and chocolate croissant was under cooked, doughy and could not taste the chocolate at all. I think it was the croissant was even sprinkled with drinking chocolate. Overall I think the quality of ingredients have gone down and you can tell :(

Lovely bakery does 3! Types of Sourdough 🍞 @ reasonable prices. Very nice friendly staff who are knowledgeable, & don't make you feel rushed when asking questions. Gets very busy here from 9.30am at the weekend so get there early to get your favourite loaf!

Second time getting bread here. I would leave a picture with my bread but it was so good I ate it on the way home
M. K.
Update: imo, the quality unfortunately dropped down. Lots of products I used to like just isn’t that good anymore. It’s like 3.5/5

Absolutely delicious bakes. I can fully recommend all their loaves, croissants, cinnamon roles and cookies. From time to time there’s also amazing bread pudding. The service is always really nice and friendly. The place looks clean. I’d recommend visiting them early because many products disappear quickly in a day. Might be bit pricy, though I think it’s worth it.

One of the best bakeries i ever been to. Their products are always fresh and delicious. Usually we get breakfast from here during the weekends. Always excited and satisfied to have a treat from here 🤤

Amazing!! came by yesterday and went in on impulse because we were hungry. Found a delicious tofu coconut curry pastry!!! Reasonably priced - definitely would have paid more!

Can recommend this place enough. Actually had a funny moment where the guys working weren't sure how to use the fancy coffee machine and the guy that did was on break. In desperate need of a coffee - and with previous barista experience - my bf and I sprung into action and made ourselves a coffee. The guys in the back were hilarious and so kind. 10/10 for kindness. The cinnamon swirl pastries were also a strong 10/10!
W. T.
Great sourdough bread and morning pasties! I love the toffee apple turnovers 🥰
P. L.
Had an amazing tofu curry roll from here, would highly reccomend!

Edit to 5* - they’re sorted it out and are now back to being my fave neighborhood bakery. They also now do hot drinks <3
This used to be my favorite neighborhood bakery but sadly since new ownership it’s gone down hill 😢 please bring back the phenomenal pain au chocolate, focaccia and lunchtime sandwich I beg.
K. B.
Delicious sourdough bread and flapjack. Really friendly service.

Best bakery in Bristol no doubt. I don't know what we would have done without it during the years we lived in Old Market. Their sourdough bread is so good I'm almost tempted to start shipping it to where I'm currently living, I miss it so much! All their savoury pastries, focaccia and croissants are great, and I love that there is always something new to try.
A really good thing is that they offer half price of yesterday's bread, that way we could make sure there was always amazing bread in our freezer.
Thanks for everything!

One of the best bakeries in town. Very good sourdough bread which could stay soft-ish for a week! Delicious sausage roll too which was made of real pork meat. Highly recommended!
H. S.
This place is amazing! They sell some of the best freshly baked bread in Bristol!
All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the bread is delicious!
They also sell cakes, pastries and other baked goods, definitely worth a visit if you're nearby!
M. D.
Amazing baked good! So tasty, vegan and veggie options! It's hard not to buy a sweet treat ontop of a savoury, staff friendly too :)
D. C.
Sausage rolls worth killing for. And finish with a dark chocolate, salted cookie unless you have more will power than me.
For lunch items, they have sensibly moved the service table to the doorway so no customer has to enter the shop.
G. C.
Great croissants and sausage rolls. I didn't try the sourdough this time but it looks great and I'll definitely be back, yum!
E. G.
These people have done a deal with the devil because in all my days eating dangerous amounts of bread I have never tasted any as delicious as their seeded sourdough. Very suspicious, likely they are witches :(

Not always good value for the money you pay in such an overpriced place.
Bread and their morning sandwiches are usually good, but this might be the only products that make the difference comparing to other places.
However, the quality is not always consistent, which might leave you with a feeling of disappointment for the money you have paid.
The rest will usually be too oily or sugary for my tastes.
K. B.
No doubt the best bakery in Bristol. The sourdough breads are amazing and a real sourdough. Their pastries and croissants are best I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.
M. A.
Excellent sourdough bread made fresh every day. Also a varied selection of pastries, cakes, savouries and sandwiches all hand made in the bakery. With vegan, veggie and meat options. A second outlet is based at Whapping Wharf too where you can also grab a top quality coffee.
B. F.
If you are easily tempted avoid this place... But you would be missing one of the best treats and gourmet staples! Sourdough bread, yum! Chicken and leek pasty, yum! Cinnamon swirls, scrummy brownies... Yum yum!!
B. M.
Great bread/sourdough/rolls but the pastries and sandwich's can be hit and miss. Some pastries like the sausage rolls are so oily they can be sickly and sandwich fillings can be very stingy e.g. Had a humous and red pepper sandwich with little or no humous so really just a red pepper sandwich for £4.50
R. B.
Best sausage roll in the world.
I've told everyone. So fab.
I dont live in Bristol any more but when ever I come back I always eat a million sausage rolls from here because they are the best!
W. B.
Being European, I was always quite gutted with he state and quality of like 95% of bread in England but this baker is a game changer. So good and tasty!
J. H.
THE BEST BAKERY IN BRISTOL. Amazing bread (they also sell bread rolls, which seem to have gone out of fashion at other bakeries?) but I mostly buy their pain au chocolat, which are amazing and my work colleagues also love. Everything else is great too. The ICING ON THE CAKE is that they are open Sundays - basically providing an essential public service when everyone else is closed...
A.
Easily the best bakery in Bristol, rivalling some of the best bakeries I've been to in France. Higher than average prices but absolutely worth it, would recommend!
R. P.
Assembly Bakery has been delivering to our street weekly during lockdown. Delicious bread, and a really enjoyable, local, community shopping experience in the street! This must go on…
V. R.
This is the best bread we have ever eaten. I’ve tried the rest so now only eat the best ! Absolutely delicious 😋 and I travel from Bath every week to buy our bread. Thank you !
R. L.
Remember Pop-eye? Remember how spinach was a game-changer for him. Well the Assembly Bakery sausage rolls are next level nourishment.
C. B.
Yes I agree. We have tried a lot of bread around Bristol and this is quite simply the best. Highly recommended! Keep up the amazing work!

Their cinnamon bun is to die for.... Seriously if you are reading this review just, treat yo' self, you deserve it
L. W.
The food is beautiful, one of the best bakeries I have been to!!
o. w.
Very good food, up there with Hart's And Mark's bakeries, however if you want an Almond Croissant you need to get there early
I.
my friend and i shared a sandwich and a pastry here and they were absolutely fantastic! the people behind the counter are great too.
R. C.
I'd have been there at 7:45 because Supposed to be open, and still close, why? I wanted a bread for my breakfast 😥
T. I.
The wholemeal sourdough is the best in town !
Contrary to the opening times listed by google, they are open every day !
