I had a very positive experience in this café.
The staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable.
All of the tables are clean.
The waitresses give you the right amount of attention and are helpful.
The coffee does not seem barrista style and the sandwiches are nothing special. But this café does not advertise or price itself to be anything other than what it is.
If you want avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast, I'd recommend you go to Flat White down the road.

Popped in for afternoon tea with the pooches and were greeted with a bowl of dog treats for the pooches 😍 Staff were so friendly making a fuss of Gypsy & Buster while we savoured our cheese scones and a massive pot of Tea. Fantastic venue, well recommended. Love the Alice in Wonderland theme. This pair of Mad Hatter's will definitely return 😋

Small, not too comfortable. Nice tea but the cake was a little stale. Everyone got the "we're closing soon" type of remark, including me 30m before closing. Which isn't exactly welcoming!

Lovely food and drink, good service. The cream with the scone is excellent but would spread more easily if they had warmed the scone.

Lovely staff, very welcoming to me and my pug! Great dog friendly find in Durham

Cute little cafe with great treats. Would definitely recommend getting the lotus biscuit cupcake! There’s not a lot of room so be careful during busy periods.

Lovely little Alice - Tea house with super tasty tea and homemade cupcakes :)

Absolutely delightful place. A good range of gluten free options, not that we required them but worth a mention. Four of us opted for afternoon tea and we were not disappointed. Food was fresh and tasty. Tea was plentiful. Cakes were delicious. Staff were friendly and more than welcoming to our two dogs. In fact the tea rooms advertise outside that our furry friends will be very well looked after even down to doggy treat options on the menu which really lured us in. We were given a large bowl of fresh water and a bowl of doggy treats almost as soon as we were seated.
We loved the attention to detail in the decor and the experience as a whole even down to ice cubes in our drinks in the shape of hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades.
All in all we loved it. Well done and many thanks to all the staff.

Great little cafe with the friendliest staff and very tasty food. Good vegan and vegetarian options. Our little four legged friend was given not only a couple of treats and some water but also her own blanket to sit on. Would definitely go back any time we're in Durham.

Such a beautiful tearoom. Just visited today and I would highly recommend. The staff were lovely and so caring. Me and my friend ordered a themed afternoon tea which didn't disappoint. We were asked if the sandwiches were ok and they happily changed to make them more to our preference. They were so friendly and made the experience lovely.

We visited Hatters for a quick stop on our visit around Durham and we had a lovely experience here. Emma was a delight and served us with the warmest smile and was so friendly and accommodating. We’d recommend a visit to Hatters cafe. The coffee is delicious and the panini’s too! Thank you so much Emma! We can’t wait to visit again and spread the word with all our friends. Love Rachel and Aaron xx

We had a lovely experience here. The food is made with love, prepared by the staff themselves. The cafe has a lovely atmosphere, created by the staff, who are friendly, happy to answer questions and gracious. The food is super tasty and I look forward to returning!

Had a lovely time! Delicious smoothie and food, and great service! Shame I was only in Durham for a day or I'd have gone back! Thank you :)

Mid afternoon on a Monday & had a choice of gluten-free cake 😁 Very nice gf cupcake & my partner enjoyed his Cherry Bakewell. Also had lactose free milk in my coffee, no extra cost & a lovely change from usual soya option! Lovely place.

I had a great experience ordering my son's 21st birthday cake from Emma. Owing to lockdown it was all organised online - Emma made a delicious vegan chocolate cake for him and delivered it on the day as promised. Emma was very quick to respond to my emails and the cake was brilliant. Thank you Emma!

A lovely cafe half way up the bank walking to Durham Cathedral. Food is of good quality, service is excellent, spotlessly clean and a good use of the limited space available. The only reason we have given four stars rather than five is due to the fact the establishment does not have a toilet and the nearby public toilets recommended by the staff are far from pleasant!
A.
Tempted in to this lovely coffee shop, excellent service, food, and drinks all reasonably priced. Small and pleasant surroundings, warning no public toilet facilities due to the age of building and health and safety requirements. Definitely recommend a visit

Excellent venue for home made cakes and tea selection, coffees, etc. Plus great decor and storyline for the small and big kids. 😁

In my time as a Durham coffee critic this place comes in the lowest third of Durham’s cafés; but that isn’t saying much as I’ve only attended the upper echelon of coffee houses. Was a pleasure rather than a chore, would recommend to others, but definitely room for improvement on both the setup and the beverage quality.

Wow. This is a amazing place for coffee. I had never been in before and i pass it on the daily. But it was a good idea to pop in for a coffee

Friendly Staff, beverages, also, friendly to the taste buds. Alice and Wonderland decor was interesting, especially when Rock n Roll star by Oasis was playing on the radio, but I'm all for that.

Delicious cupcakes! Visited time and again for a post-essay treat, great for meeting friends and so cosy. Would recommend the banoffee cupcakes especially. Does get quite busy on weekends.

Lovely local cafe. Not big but space utilised well. Gorgeously fresh made sandwiches, coffee and cakes.
Afternoon Tea a bargain for 2 at £14.50....stuffed.

My wife and I were looking for something different and did not fancy heavy food ( burgers and the like) as we were eating out later.....This little tea room appeared to fit what we were looking for and it did not disappoint....The food was excellent and the two girls who attended to our needs were lovely ....A little belter.....

First time at the cafe with our dog and the staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. Food was excellent and not over priced.

Cosy coffee joint, great service for a small place and I enjoyed the Lewis Carroll decor. Only bad point was the lack of bathroom facilities.

Interesting, but superb decor. Being a coffee connoisseur, I have frequented many a coffee place in Durham, but this might be my favourite!

Nice and friendly staff 💕

The desserts are to die for especially the chocolate cake! The only problem is that the place is too small to go with a group of people.

Everything about this place is gorgeous - will definitely come again next time I'm in Durham.
