We discovered Maria’s Kakes shortly after their opening and since then we have become regular customers! My family and I, we live in France, and every time we are visiting my brother in Edinburgh, visiting Maria is a most! Each pastry is so tasteful and delicious, our favorite treats are the cannoli, so tasty and light, you really have a taste of Italy in your mouth! Maria and Rocco are so friendly and will always welcome you with a big smile. For my brother’s birthday, in a short notice, Maria was able to arrange a beautiful cake and some cannoli to be delivered at his work as a surprise , we appreciate her attention to detail and her compassion! Thank you again for making possible to do this surprise to him even with the distance! :)

Is a place to return. I order a birthday cake one day before my birthday and the lady was very kind to accept because normally you do need 2/3 days. She let me choose the one i like more too. The cake was DELICIOUS was perfect very pleased like i said i will return Thank you 😊

Ah, what a lovely little patisserie! The staff at Maria's Kakes were able to arrange a delicious package of goodies and delivery. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh. My only regret is that I didn't have time to visit the staff/store in person. Maybe next time! All the best, Jessica. X

What a tremendous selection they all looked so good the raspberry frangipane tart I chose tasted amazing, The lady was really friendly and helpful. Not just cakes though there's pasta,wines, coffees, tins and jars of Italian produce. Great place 👌☺️

This bakery has a lovely environment thanks to Maria and her friendly service. The cakes that Maria makes herself are honestly too good not to try! I can tell they are made with love and care since my stomach is very happy after eating any of the cakes and pastries. I would recommend this lovely lil place 100%, definitely try the pistachio cannoli and the fruit tarts. Also the macaroons are scrumptious and the focaccia? Absolutely divine Can't wait to be back ☺️

One of my favourite places I've discovered since moving to Edinburgh, both Maria and Rocco are always very friendly and their cakes and sandwiches are amazing!! The coffee is always soo good! A real gem on Leith walk! If you haven't been already, what are you waiting for?

Superb pastry and superb people. Called Maria last minute and she very nicely offered this birthday cake she prepared for a customer for collection next day to me, so I had a cake for my friend’s birthday in the evening! The cake was of high quality and everyone at the dinner enjoyed it and asked for the pastry’s name. I’m living in the neighbourhood so always pop by Maria’s place for some authentic Italian dessert. Wonderful. Maria radiates warmth. Such a friendly welcome. I bought lunch to take away. A great black coffee. Lovely fresh focaccia filled with coppa, spinach, mozzarella and the most delicious tomato. A decadent custard filled pastry. There was a great selection and I felt spoilt for choice, everything looked delicious. I also noticed some items were marked as vegan too. Maria also stocks a selection of Italian products for at home. I can’t wait to try my blood orange marmalade from Sicily. Highly recommended.

Definitely some of freshest, most authentic yet original, and truly delicious cakes I've ever tasted. The price is really good as well, especially considering the quality, and the owner is lovely. Bought one cake to try last week, and had to go straight back the next day to buy a boxful - wonderful!

The focaccia here are great and the homemade cannoli's are delicious. Really nice owners too and you can tell they care about the food and their customers offering you tips on the best way to enjoy the food. Totally recommend a visit!

Came with a special request for my girlfriend’s birthday. Being this so close to Christmas, it has always being a tradition to have her favourite cake (an amaretto soaked and meringue almond from our native Spain) with all her family as the official launch day for the coming holidays. We couldn’t travel this year due to obvious reasons, but at least she would have her cake, which might no be the fanciest, but being able to feel closer to home in this times as been an enormous gift for us. Thanks again Maria! And extra points for the meringue. 😃🥲

One of the highlights of lock down was finding this little gem. Different types of delicious focaccia every time we went and an ever changing range of sweet treats to try too. Owners are super friendly and my 2 year old just loved tagging along to our visits here and yet to find a treat he didn’t like a quick taste of! Will definitely be back

Real Italian cakes / pastries which are absolutely delicious! They also have a cappuccino and croissant offer with regular pastries and more inventive types such as pistachio cream croissant and so on. The owner is a really nice man too. A little slice of authentic Italy, it reminds me of home! Definitely recommend a visit.

I went in a few weeks ago looking for a last minute special celebration cake. Got out with a vegan chocolate cake. Best chocolate cake ever. Chocolate sponge, light and fluffy chocolate ganache (not greasy and heavy like a butter version) peanut butter and more chocolate filling. Absolutely amazing. Can't wait to go back.
