Reviews of GAIL's Bakery Belsize Park
A. K.
I stop by here in the mornings whenever I venture into the office, and although there are lots of cafes in this area Gail's is my favourite. The coffee is delicious, as is the oat porridge. As far as I know Gail's is the only place here at the moment offering non-dairy porridge which I love. The service is quick in the mornings even if there is a bit of a queue when I arrive so I never have to worry about being late to the office if I stop by here.
Some of the comments say the staff aren't friendly and I'm not really sure what they mean - I would say the staff aren't that talkative to the customers but that's because they're busy doing their jobs and even though I've never had much small talk with the staff they've always been polite and professional.
M. H.
This is the best coffee shop in Belsize Park.
The coffee is delicious and the staff is always very friendly and helpful, no matter how busy the are.
They always remember your name if you are regular and they always treat you with a smile (especially big thanks to Dayana, she is amazing)
I highly recommend this place.

Can't beat Gail's for a sweet treat... can confirm these travelled very well to Suffolk.

Located opposite to Belsize Park station, Gail's Belsize Park is one of two Gail's in the area. While small and narrow, the highlight is the outside seating area which is a great option during the summer. The pastries are good especially the pistachio and raspberry bun which is memorable - flakey, moist and full of flavour. The coffee is weak and basic compared to other options in the area.

Very nice chain bakery. I like their sourdough and olive breads. Their olive bread is my comfort bread so I am a regular.
I love their sausage rolls and all of their quiches. I do not like any of their other pastry.
Their coffee is decent (caveat: I rarely drink coffee so I may not be the best judge here).
D. Z.
Food and drinks are pretty good with the usual high quality, although there was a male server with long hair that was super rude, impacient and with a remarkable deficit of attention.
L. S.
They got nice outdoor seating area. The staffs were friendly. I love their chocolate brownie fingers and coconut macaroons. The brownie was really good as they used a good quality of chocolate. Coconut macaroon was nice and soft on the centre.

What I ordered was nice. But the service was grumpy and tables at the back sticky and dirty. I paid £8.50 for a double macchiato and 2 small things to eat. So I would expect better service for the price. Would buy bread here to take home. But as a tearoom it leaves me wanting.

First time in the Gail's of Belsize Park, and it was as good as always (I usually go to the one in Kentish Town). Really fast and friendly service in the breakfast rush. And the porridge with blueberries, seed and maple syrup was great!
R. S.
Amazing bakery, some of the freshest and best food you have eaten. Can’t wait to go back
R. L.
Always good for light lunch/coffee — like the parmesan chicken buns!
박.
Korean staff was so kind.
I will definitely go agian.

You can miss this tiny little Gail’s in Belsize Park, as it’s set back a little from the rest of the high street. Seating inside is a bit cramped, but there are a few tables outside separated from the street, which is good. Hot chocolate, bread and pastries are tasty and staff are friendly.
P.
Great place for coffee and pastries, the staff are very pleasant. However, I found their pancakes very average.
J. W.
I contemplated contacting the main office about my concerns but thought perhaps as a local branch you are able to address local concerns better, and demand changes. I used to visit the cafe regularly before the pandemic and have on a few occasions after lockdown. However I have lost confidence in the bakery’s ability to maintain a safe environment for employees and customers after a visit this weekend.I note that Gails has a no-mask policy for employees, which I have so far tried to empathise with, but I hope it would be reviewed given that the overcrowding I witnessed on either sides of the counter. That said I understand the operational difficulties and share my appreciation to the team.

I had a great brunch here yesterday. Food was amazing, the sausage roll has to be the best I’ve ever had. Lovely member of staff called Robert gave us outstanding customer service. Will come back here every time I’m in Belsize Park I the future
M. T.
Sweet, delicious and cosy place. One of the best almond croissant ever😋
A. C.
Love your friendly staff and service. Not sure I can keep coming while your staff aren’t wearing masks, however. Seems unsafe for them and customers at this time. I appreciate it isn’t easy, maybe they could have more frequent breaks outdoors? Please be a local cafe that leads by example for health and well-being of staff and customers.
A. W.
Nice bakery with lovely interesting selection of bread cakes and sandwiches. Space to sit and enjoy food and drinks. Good service.

Gail's bakery serve great food. No doubt about it. But when it comes to service they can definitely do better especially with the prices that they charge. The management can do better to encourage staff to serve with more joy. Also the ventilation system in the place isn't great. I left the place smelling like fried bacon.
N. H.
Great little bakery. Very friendly staff. Food is tasty. The only issue is the seated area at the back - there's no direct natural light and not the best ventilation so your clothes might smell a bit afterwards!
H.
Very nice tea. The scone was excellent and the jam and cream were lovely. The amount of jam was just right, but the only down side was the very small amount of cream supplied with the scone.
J. W.
Gail's Bakery is a lovely place, very nice staff, gorgeous food and really good coffee, we went back again twice in the same day.
J. B.
This place has nice cakes and pastries. The sitting area inside is nice and I chose to complete my work. But the staff here is weird. I mean when you enter a restaurant, cafe or a bar, all you want is a nice smile to welcome you and make you feel comfortable. Otherwise, you feel weird. I felt the same and that's the only reason for 3 stars.
A. T. -. M.
The bakes are top class, less so the coffee but most frustratingly it continues to be cashless which is unfair on many customers (an issue which is not, of course, unique to Gail's)
T. B.
This store isn't as well set out as the Hampstead branch. Many of the breakfast items are also sold out quite early. other than that, it's a fantastic store typical Gail's quality.
E. C.
Good food but pricey. Service not friendly. Haven’t heard of manners
M. L.
The latest outpost of the Hampstead favourite, Gail's offers fresh coffees and delicious baked goods - in the words of my girlfriend, "They take pastries to another level." Despite appearances from the outside, this cafe has some nice seating - and a lovely green courtyard - at the back.
But for some reason, the layout of this cafe doesn't quite work - pastries are temptingly displayed by the door, but separate from the staff counter. But this is no self-service affair - leading to staff bouncing around and -frankly- hassling you while you make up your mind. Given the somewhat cramped space, this leads to a mildly stressful experience.
Pastries are for sure better than the Hummingbird Bakery up the street - but the jury's out as to whether or not we'll be adopting this as our new favourite cafe.
A. W.
I love Gail's and so happy more and more are opening. I used to just drop in on a Saturday and grab the bread (brilliant selection with a lot of different flavours etc) now they've opened one in Balham it's my new favourite meetup place for a post work catch up with a friend, open till 7. Great teas and coffees, all the different milks you could want and amazing sweet things.
K. A.
Their hot chocolate is quite rich in taste, and was quite hot when I ordered it, so it was brilliant. I like Gail's. Their breakfast snacks are quite healthy. My favourite branch is still the one in Hampstead.
N. H.
Great little bakery. Very friendly staff. Food is tasty. The only issue is the seated area at the back - there's no direct natural light and not the best ventilation so your clothes might smell a bit afterwards!
K. M.
Nice but expensive.
