Reviews of GAIL's Bakery Blackheath
B. P.
Cafe does a great selection of cakes, patisserie items etc. The staff on site were great also. The hot drinks were not great! ordered a chai latte and a breakfast tea, chai tasted artificially sweet and very bitty at the same time. Tea was meh!
Great staff, great cakes, great location. Will try again next time.
I. C.
Great bakery and cafe in one. The waste-less sourdough is our favourite loaf of bread but the chocolate tahini bites are so so good! And plant-based too!
R. A.
Busy town cafe with baked savoury and sweet goods and a selection of salads/sandwiches and cold oats/chia puddings. Coffee was also quite good.
T. R.
Popped in after having spent the day fasting for a blood test in a nearby hospital and got a sausage roll, a egg and cheese slider and a cookie, as recommended by the lovely young lady serving. Even if I hadn't been starving hungry it would have been the best sausage roll I've had in years and a really top, top cookie. The slider however was the icing on the cake and was nothing short of divine. Both the filling and the brioche bun were perfect. I wish I was in Blackheath more often these days but I will definitely be popping into GAIL's next time in the area.

I have no idea why people love this place? Service is terrible. Always super slow and unfriendly and unhelpful staff. Very expensive for what you get. I am more than happy to pay more for a good cup of coffee but this is just standard Greggs style drinks for double the price. Have still given 3 stars since even though expensive, the pastries and other baked goods are excellent.

I have wanted to visit Gail's last year but couldn't because of the lockdown.
As it is open for takeaway, I decided to visit.
Tried their Cinnamon roll for the first time and immediately fell in love with it 😍😋😋. It was baked to perfection. Deliciousness at it's best 😋😋
I went again and got another one along with hot chocolate.
This was the best hot chocolate I have had in London so far. I have only been in London for a year and mostly in lockdown but it was the best I had so far.
If you are in Greenwich park, it's a short walk. Don't miss it.
D. T.
My partner loves this place and always drags me along. I think it's overrated personally. Food not good, usually cold and cannot be warmed up, coffees meh. Just a nice establishment and fancy name
S. R.
The place is nice enough but their prices indicate they think they're a bit more fancy than what they are.
A hot chocolate which didn't taste anymore special than most other places was very small in portion served in what was essentially a ramekin was £3.70!

I was scouting Blackheath as I was writing a 10 Things To Do In Blackheath for my blog. I was cold and very hungry and needed the loo. I popped into Gails Bakery and enjoyed a delicious scrambled egg on toast, lovely bread and creamy tasting eggs. I took pictures of the cakes, they are yummy, I've eaten a fair few over the years! The cinnamon rolls are amazing. This Gails is very spacious.

Gail’s has been a great lunch fix while working from home.
The chicken bun, spinach and feta roll and the chocolate/almond croissant come recommended from me.
There have been long queues during lockdown so they appear to be doing very well indeed.
I wish there was more in the way of typical sandwich choices personally though.
A. B.
The good stuff: Pecan Cinnamon Crumb is delicious and the cappuccino was the best cappuccino I've had at any Gail's or generally in a while.
The reason for 3-stars was the wait. I ordered to takeaway, nobody was in front of me at the counter, in fact it wasn't too busy at all inside. The problem is that initial service was slow without acknowledging I was even standing there (not a massive problem by itself), but also that both of their baristas seemed to be off doing other things? What I thought would be a max 3-5min stop by turned into an easily 10 minute wait for just a cappuccino. And as anyone knows, every additional minute you're standing there waiting for a coffee without anything happening, the more exponentially disappointing the service becomes. However, as I said above, it was a fantastic Cappuccino, I just know that this Gail's can organise it's service better. If there hadn't been such a silly wait, I would have easily given 5 stars.
I. A.
Absolutely delightful! I'd recommend the maple and pecan scone and the San Francisco sourdough bread to take home
K. S.
Great coffee, amazing cakes and the bread is wonderful. It can get extremely busy here at the weekends but is well worth the wait. I would advise not ordering the hot food on the weekends though as sometimes it can turn up a little cold.
Staff are amazing and friendly even though they are often rushed off their feet!
A. C.
Best branch of Gails in London! Consistently great quality of pastries and coffee. I recommend getting takeaway as outside seating can get busy because of the queue
J. B.
I like their little cakes best; the pistachio & rose one, the honey cake and the ricotta, polenta, lemon & berry one. Always good coffee and the brioche chicken sandwich is pretty tasty too!
S. N.
Visited during lockdown. Nice orderly queue and quick friendly service. The baked goods are top notch if a teensy bit pricey but you get what you pay for and most of their goods are worth the money. The sable and shortbread biscuits are underwhelming (to me). The bread, croissants, cookies, buns etc. are delicious. I recommend Gail's and appreciate the measures they've put in place due to C19.
N. U.
Top notch breakfast options, although a little on the pricey side. Nice atmosphere, plenty of seating, and good location. However, it is popular and can get quite busy. Had the Brioche French toast with maple bacon - definitely recommend! It's a good place to go if you're in the area and want to treat yourself to a nice brunch.
S. M.
Good food although a bit pricey.
All 3 driinks served cold.
L. W.
Friendly staff and bright, airy eating area up the stairs. The baked eggs and coffee were delicious.
L. H.
Few simple things could make this place better:
1. Offer a genuine salad rather than the few limp dry leaves that currently come with a quiche. Happy to even pay a bit more if it came with a few small tomatoes and dressing
2. Have menus at front of premises rather than at til so you know there are alternative options to what's on show.
3. Train employees to not huff when told you are sitting at a table upstairs and to not crash crockery and cutlery in a mood when collecting from tables.
4. Choose music that fits the place (not club music, which I love in other settings) and not so loud.
N. B.
You simply can’t beat their pastries. Warning - if you’re looking after your waistline you may wish to steer clear, it’s hard to resist once the smell of freshly baked pastries fills the air from the street. Friendly staff and good coffee too. Interior could be slightly better in the sit down area but as I’m writing this during a global pandemic when we’re not allowed to eat inside it doesn’t much matter.
I. F.
Quite busy with a queue but the service was top tier. Definitely going back to try the maple bacon french toast.
M. B.
Wonderful little bakery where you can get a cuppa and a seat. Good selection of pastries to have with your cup of tea or coffee. Pot of tea was generous, service with a smile.
K.
Fantastic little spot for a good coffee and snack. Gets very busy at times
K. W.
Lovely space for a spot of breakfast or brunch. Will definitely visit again.
K. R.
Friendly staff and nice produce. There are steps at the entrance but the member of staff kindly took my order at the door so that I didn’t have to go in with the buggy. The produce is quite pricey but always very yummy. Avoid on a Saturday morning though as queues can be very long!
D. J.
Very good Café/bakery! Expensive but worth it! Very nice staff!
S. H.
Great place for coffee and cake only problem is they keep running out of cinnamon buns. So get there early if you have a favourite.
A. B.
Delicious coffee when made by the tall, slim guy (sorry, haven't asked for the name). Professionally prepared, with a balanced flavour and a perfectly frothy top. Very consistent quality too, which is important. Coffee making may not be a rocket science, but it takes a certain level of intelligence and some other personal qualities to do it right. A couple of times when I was served by someone else, the difference was noticeable (milk slightly too liquid etc.). It would have been great if everyone was trained to the same level.
Thanks for a great experience so far. Looking forward to my next cup!
D. T.
Great coffee and a wide selection of foods. A bit overpriced and the service is usually a bit slow although the place is always full and for a good reason. All in all I would recommend if time is not an issue. The place is baby friendly as well!
k. d.
The que is always worth it!
Always a great selection of hot and cold food options.
The mini honey cakes are delicious.
M. K.
Went for breakfast, had the blueberry pancakes. Good quality ingredients, fresh blueberries and compote. Filter coffee was nice and strong. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, didn't get any pastries mostly because there was a huge line, though they looked amazing. Definitely will be back to try them.
J.
First time visiting and found everything well made but slightly lower quality than some over artisanal bakeries I frequent.
After reading other reviews claiming prices high, quite confused as everything seemed to be priced fairly.
Very friendly welcome and request to make use of hand gel on entering. But did feel slightly rushed (a queue was forming) and didn't get to look at the full range.
I would certainly visit again if in the area.
P. I.
It used to be my favourite but in my last visit a member of the staff was absolutely rude. By the way nice cinnamon buns and coffee
J. G.
Very clean, following all the current rules Covid related with enforcement of safety distance in place and staff well trained to give its customers a proper direction. My order was ready to collect and the bread fresh. Tables also not overcrowded so it was overall outstanding positive
L. C.
Wednesday late morning...
Bloody lovely. Clean, not too busy.
Scrumdiddlyumtious spinach and feta roll. Washed down with a latte and a very tasty cinnamon bun thingy!!
Can't wait to go again and try other things.
a. c.
The food and service here was absolutely spot on. The lady serving us was lovely. There was a huge selection of food to choose from, we had avocado on toast and the mushroom, avocado bun and both were fantastic. It was quite hectic in there as it's always busy but that's for reason clearly! I'll definitely be coming back.
M. S.
This is our family's favourite bakery. Staff is super kind, and products to die for. We have our usual pastries and delicious coffee, however, one must make sure to try their famous carrot cake! It's most probably the beat one ever made. Never too sweet, and a decent chunk as well.
Their selection of sourdough bread is one if the best in London, and they serve a slice of their bread with homemade soups. Delicious!
F. B.
Great food lively atmosphere, friendly and efficient service
A. M.
Please train your staff on allergens! I am gluten intolerant and visited the cafe today for lunch. I asked the member of staff at the till if there were any gluten free options on sandwiches, quiches or soup, to which she responded no, nothing was gluten free. I then went to look at the food in the counter, and noticed that one of the quiches was in fact crustless, and labelled "flourless" - a strong indicator that this could be gluten free. I asked the member of staff again, who then checked this on the till system and was able to print out a list of allergens in this quiche - no gluten on the label! So went with this. I have subsequently gone onto the Gail's website to check the allergen information on other foods, and found that all the soups that were being served were also gluten free.
While I appreciate that it would be worse if I was provided a food that did contain gluten, when there are options available it would be great if staff were aware what these are.
The crustless quiche that I did have was delicious, and my partner also enjoyed his food a lot!
D. L.
Possibly the BEST bakery in London. Their bread and food are always tasty and the pastry is second to none. Their cake are just sweet enough to make them moreish.
Only down side is price. So go fully loaded.
F. B.
I've been here twice. The food is not good enough for the price and the ingredients are not always properly listed. The coffee was quite poor. However, all prices are advertised. The staff is ok, quite serious but well prepared.
On weekends there's a LOT of people and it's very noisy. During the week, there's a lot of people and it's noisy. None of this is their fault but it some people (like me) do not enjoy it.
A. L.
Tons of seating so it's the perfect place for a long work session. They make a nice (if small) iced latte, and they offer tons of food options as well—pretty much every imaginable pastry.
P. B.
Have been coming to Gail’s over the last couple of months as live locally. Both my partner and I really want to love this place and give it 5 stars but I’ve found the service to be hit and miss. To be honest I think the problem is there is just not enough staff around at the busiest times. Some of the staff are helpful and friendly but others are the opposite.
The food is great as is the coffee and you don’t mind paying high prices for this but the service is lacking. When you order hot food and it’s left to sit there before being brought to your table or you left waiting for cutlery, it’s the small things really but really impacts your experience.
C. B.
I begrudgingly frequent this place for the singular reason that their coffee is the best (takeaway) option in the village. That said, it never ceases to amaze me how a national franchise is so chaotically run. If you’ve got a spare 10 mins to wait for your flat white because the barrister is busy having a chat with colleagues (no matter how many people are waiting) then you’ve been warned! For a far superior service and dining experience, support a local independent and take your business to Hand Made Food round the corner.
A. R.
Really tasty food. Family friendly and the staff is super welcoming. It is our family headquarters on weekends. I recommend their homemade soup and mini cakes and my husband's favourites are their burgers!! A family favourite 😊
J. L.
Lovely (but expensive!) bakery. Much bigger than it looked from the outside, with lots of tables up and downstairs. Great choice of coffee, teas and cakes. Double chocolate cookie was amazing. Carrot cake was huge! Fantastic sausage rolls. Really nice bread as well. A great place to go in Blackheath for a bite, but be prepared for the high prices.
A.
Cinnamon buns to die for, unbeatable cheese straws, best pecan brownie ever! Gail’s may be a little pricey but so worth it! They’re even offering a takeaway service in these trying times, that aught to lift the mood 😊
t. b.
Iconic London bakery. Worth a visit
M. W.
We had the option of sitting inside or outside. The tables outside were not shaded. It would be prefect if the tables were in the shade.
The service was good. The cinnamon bun was delicious as always.
A. W.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff and a huge variety of bakery options, which all looked delicious. Unfortunately they had run out of hot chocolate and filter coffee but I can highly recommend the Mocha. I have worked locally for the last year but never been in however I will definitely be visiting again A***
L. G.
Great coffee and pleased to see they have some gluten free options including bread, salads and cakes. The new layout is so much better too. I just wish they did a gluten free sandwich, as it would be easier to grab that kind of thing on the go.
M. C.
Really nice cakes and bread. We didn't love the coffee though. The seating are also looks nice too, although it wasn't open when we've visited (due to Covid). Would recommend.
R. W.
A good variety of pastries but expensive and some were dry. Our small chocolate cake was £4.50. Service not great, waitress spilled 2 drinks and didn't wipe up. Otherwise, drinks were ok.
A. K.
Any Gail’s never disappoints. This one in particular has one of the largest seating areas of all of the branches I have been too. Sitting downstairs will afford you a sneak peak of all the bakers in action as the kitchen is right there with an island and stools - it’s a real treat. Never fails for a quick coffee and takeaway breakfast or treat on the way to Blackheath station as it is right across the street. Best cafe in Blackheath (coffee, food, ambiance).
L. H.
First time eating in for a while, unfortunately the food menu has changed, not for the better and eggs where over cooked, bread wasn't toasted, which normally wouldn't be over fussed but at £7 it's a bit frustrating
F. P.
The staff is always lovely, you feel at your home
G. W.
Love this place, nice food, coffee and ambience. However, the management need to deal with those who occupy a seat for hours using the Wi-Fi whilst customers are unable to find a seat. It's their business that's being affected as people have to go elsewhere.
V. m.
I usually love Gail's but today it was busy (which is good!) but the staff couldn't keep up!
Upon placing my order I wasn't told that they had run out of one of the ingredients listed. When the meal came after a long delay, it was very small, no cutlery and minus an ingredient! The waiter simply said to us "we don't have any left" rather than anyone telling us this when I ordered.
Our drinks came well after we had finished our food, despite them being ordered at the same time
My mum asked the waiter where the drinks were, with him just responding "it's busy"
However, another member of staff was very kind and offered us a refund on our drinks due to the delay.
Gails is a lovely bakery but they don't seem to be able to deal with thier success and the crowds this brings!
K. J.
Love them - everything there is good - I'm going there quite often and always loving the food- both hot selection as well as bread and pastries. There is always a lot of people and sometimes you need to wait a bit for your food but never too long and is definitely worth waiting for.
T. H.
Great little cafe with excellent baked goods, brunch menu and friendly staff. Good wifi and some power sockets for those who want to work whilst they eat. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Seats may be hard to find at peak times, especially lunch time.
e. d.
I have been a returning customer at Gail's as I really enjoy their cakes and the service is normally very polite and helpful. However, I was recently let down when I visited the Blackheath store to collect two cakes that I had pre-ordered, only to find out that one of the cakes had arrived damaged and the other had not arrived at all. I was not offered any discount or alternative compensation. Instead, I was offered pieces of damaged cake and some individual mini-cakes to make up for the missing whole cake, which were placed in dirty boxes (they had smeared chocolate on the outside). Unfortunately I had to present those as a birthday cake, not quite achieving the impression I was aiming for - especially considering the hefty price I paid. I understand accidents happen but I would have appreciated a better treatment / response by the store manager.
A. W.
Delicious baked goods and decent service.
P. L.
Amazing cinnamon buns and other pastries & bread, but service on drinks is too slow. If you have a train to catch, allow 15 mins for them to make a take-away coffee! I've had to abandon mine being made to catch my train many times...
P. W.
I bloomin’ love Gail’s. Since they moved the counter against the wall - it’s actually a nicer experience as you wait for a coffee. Love the berry and custard brioche which I think is brand new. And as ever, you get a great coffee.
I. K.
Overall experience is good. Although weekends tend to get busier so dont expect your orders to come out soon. Although good food takes time : ). French toast and pancakes are my favourite. Please make sure coffee is always hot, but hey thats just me being picky. Staff are friendly and the manager Ruby is great, always smiling.
M. C.
Lovely space, great atmosphere, works beautifully as a coffee shop.
Both the coffee (for me) and hot chocolate (for my daughter) were nice.
But the actual bakery items? Not so much.
By the way your kids won't like the chocolate brownie finger (slightly bitter, more like cocoa not chocolate).
E. M.
It's a more expensive bakery ... but worth it because the food is very nice! Favourites for me are the chicken parmesan roll and the spinach and ricotta pastry. It's a great place for enjoying a coffee in a contemporary looking setting area where there are only just enough seats at peak times (and 5-10 minutes of queueing). Also convenient as a stop en route to the railway station.
A. B. M.
Great coffee. Friendly baristas. Lovely aesthetics. Can get a wee bit crowded on weekends, but that's a sign of good quality and service :) my favorite coffee shop in the village by far
t. c.
Great coffee, helpful and hardworking staff, nice layout inside, and food is so tasty. Not cheap but worth it for a treat. Great vegan cakes and treats too!
K. G.
One star off for the stuffy atmosphere (in spite of the 2 open windows), and for making our clothes stink like fried eggs. On the other hand, the bread is great, the breakfast was delicious, as were the coffee and tea. Did I mention the Free WiFi?
J. H.
Staff always friendly and welcoming great atmosphere. Great place if you want to grab a coffee and catch up with a friend or grab food to take away. A selection of savory and sweet treats as well as freshly baked bread. Also has plenty of space if your working from home and need somewhere to work whilst grabbing something to eat.
M. R.
Lovely pastries and decent coffee
S. E.
This is the busiest but best Gail's in the ever popular artisan bakery chain. There is plenty of seating and the service is great. Friendly people selling great produce, just stones throw from platform 1 of Blackheath railway station.
I. Q.
Almost always packed with young families and always has a queue but its a great place to grab a quick bite.
The WiFi is devastatingly poor. Reminds me of Dial-up days.
Staff are friendly but the coffee is weak.
E. M.
Really mixed. The quality of food and drink is good but the overpriced at least a third. Ham and cheese croissant £4.40... Service the same - very friendly and pleasant or cold and frowning - just depends who you get.
R. C.
Very nice coffee/bakery shop close to the station. The prices went up, but not the quality: 2x flat white and 2x almond croissant = £9. Same price in central London but higher quality product.
B.
I like the bread and the water they serve here is really flavourful. On the other hand the Coca Cola is rather bland and colourless. I forgot to eat the focaccia I ordered but I assume it tasted good
A. B.
This is our local cafe (and I'm writing this review with their free wifi now.) Their coffee and pastries are great, but their maple-soaked french toast is *amazing*.
To the reviewer who slammed this place for not having table service--this is a bakery. They don't have table service.
M. P.
Great food but the waitress gave us the wrong order, and then didn't fix the mistake, just ignored us until we left... Despite asking for what we didn't receive. The smell from this place sticks to you for the rest of the day.
A. B.
Love this place, everything is just scrumptious.
D. A.
£7 for two tiny pancakes is a bit too expensive. Queue in the morning was out the door and only one person at the till. There was a waiter, a lady, she had no sense of rush, she was wandering around the store with no purpose (or apparently) not acknowledging the customers, and her service wasn't very good (she almost dropped the cutlery over the table in a very clumsy way...and she wasn't rushing). Food was ok but not special, the avocado toast wasn't toasted AT ALL. 3 star just because the very good customer service of the blond lady at the till: she was nice, smiley and friendly, I think she was new because she didn't know the till but with a smile you can easily forgive her!
B. M.
Mother with pram- unfriendly member of staff not wanting to deliver takeaway coffee outside of the bakery. However coffee was lovely.
M. A. M.
very friendly service ,they are very patient despite the indecision &the queuing!
S. N.
The girl who served me, to be frank, was unwelcoming and I felt as though I was an inconvenience asking a question about one of the bakery items. I had the Kofta, Ratatouille salad box - very good and I would have again if I needed to (I just prefer and usually make my own salad/lunch boxes).
P. B.
Lovely location in the heart of Blackheath village. Delicious bread and cakes on sale and breakfast, brunch etc to eat at the tables inside. Very popular and can get busy in the mornings straight after the school run.
C. F.
The best coffee in Blackheath. I cannot recommend Gails highly enough. Everything is delicious, my absolute favourite is the granola bars, I’m addicted. The only slight negative is the service, it can be incredibly slow.
L. P.
Great coffee and baked goods, but we had such a dissapointing breakfast here I dont think we'll ever eat in again. Waited for ages for the food, and when it arrived it was the saddest plate of dried scrambled eggs and burnt bacon rashers I have ever seen. French toast was OK but again - topped with bacon so brittle and sharp it could give you splinters. Didnt complain at this point as we just wanted to eat something after our epic wait. No condiments offered to pep up the eggs, and the best they could muster when asked was tomato relish. So if you go to Gails, stick to takeaway cakes and coffee to avoid epic dissapointment on the food front.
T. B.
Cinnamon rolls. That is all you need to eat - served slightly warm. Pure heaven alongside one of their coffees. Friends had other cakes and equally raved about those so I'm bit sure you can go wrong!
E. F.
Great coffee and treats although quite expensive. Tables are quite often not cleaned whenever I visit. Could do with proper cleaning in most areas actually.
B. B.
Great location, nice bakery style food selection but I think it’s a victim of being one of a few decent cafes in the village. Always really crowded and service is slow, despite adequate numbers of staff.
C. H.
I like the atmosphere and tea there in the bakery. I gave only three stars because they have so many different types of breads and desserts, but does not any gulten free selection..
j. c.
Gail’s had been supplying NHS stuff at Lewisham hospital with bread and salads daily during the pandemic. Their sourdough loaves are amazing! Thank you so much!
F.
Great quality consistently delivered... Better than other bakery chains out there, the staff is friendly and efficient. It can get super busy at times and you might have to queue even for take away purchases
M. W.
Very nice food and sizeable cafe with pleasant atmosphere. Sometimes a queue and one one WC is a miss. But overall, quite a nice place to go.
R. H.
Decent coffee. Great pastries.
A. M.
Cakes look really good. Don't always taste quite as good as they look ... my drop scone was good but the cinnamon buns are ...
A M A Z I N G.
B. P.
It’s the first time I came here, it has different breads mostly sourdough (my favourite).
They staff are friendly.
Brunch is fine.
F. E.
Great food! Not my first time at Gail's and everytime it does not disappoint! Amazing breakfast and pastries. Would definitely recommend!
S. A.
Lovely atmosphere and tasty coffee. Huge selection of baked goods all of which are scrumptious. Will be visiting again for sure...
A. S.
They said that they cater for people with allergies, and dietary needs. I am lactose intolerant and asked one of the ladies which deserts did not contain milk or cheese. She took out a folder and all I could have is a coconut macaroon. I do not call that catering for allergies.
A. J.
very busy but good food and coffee
G. B.
Kept the kitchen open for us to fill our bellies with a late lunch on a cold day!
Sweetcorn pancakes were delicious with generous toppings.
Coffee certainly hit the spot.
T. M.
Good quality food that just about makes the cost worth it. Can never really say much about the staff because they rarely talk beyond asking for payment.
O. Y.
Arguably the best sourdough in London and a great spot for breakfast. Roomy dining area makes for a comfortable dining experience and staff was warm.
S.
Very good coffee, with great selection of pastries and bread. Service is friendly but it gets very busy and occasionally the wait can be very long/items can be forgotten.
R. A.
The sour dough bread is the best. Olive sour dough bread.....wow. Lovely breakfast and very good standard of coffee. Thus is a must if your coming to Blackheath!
M. J. B.
Very expensive but worth it for some of the delectable food (when served hot, and not made to wait). Can seem very cramped when crowded, and the 'yummy mummy's' and screaming kid choir are in. Do NOT sit downstairs, it's like a sauna.
G. C.
Good spot for coffee and cake. Wide selection if food on offer, does seem to get busy especially on the weekends but plenty of seating is available
E. D.
Amazing food, coffee is great (they have soya and almond milk) and the staff are friendly. Pretty packed at the weekends but perfect during the week.
A. C.
It is not cheap, we have to admit, and sometimes the coffee arrives in delay, but the bakery is amazing and the place is very nice. I would recommend it if you are not in a rush and deserve a trick
R. L.
The brunch menu, bread, cakes are all fantastic -- whether you're staying in or getting to go. One downside is that there doesn't seem to be a consistent level of service or way to order.
M. O.
Lovely place to sit down for a tea or coffee and a bite. Great selection of sandwiches, cakes and other sweet or savoury bites. A bit pricey but worth a shot
A. D.
Food obviously delicious, atmosphere lively but cosy. But the service is sooo slow, when you're opposite a station guys, a bit of awareness of people in a hurry in the morning would be good.
S. 1.
A lovely treat coming here for fresh baked goods, brunch or sweet options such as cookies and cakes. great setting with plenty of seating and nice atmosphere.
L. G.
Nice place. A bit pricy but overall worth it.
T. C.
Great selection of breads. Cakes are ok, coffee not so great. The potato bread, sandwich loaf, and local sourdough are all excellent.
B. B.
Great food. Coffee was just ok. Pricing was higher end for portion size, but was good quality.
R. E. T. (. B.
Didn't want to like It as an over priced artisan bakery..
But... For a nice leisurely tea and scone.. It's really relaxing and staff and lovely.
B. B.
Great coffee. The young lady, called Nikita working at the till is always smiling, she's very attentive and provides excellent customer service!
A. A.
The place that saved me during lockdown. Take away coffee and pastries are perfect and super delicious
S. Z.
Lovely bakery but a bit overpriced. Please review some of the prices and I am sure you will get even more customers. Food and cakes are delicious.
P. H.
Always a treat when we are in Blackheath.
Good selection of sandwiches and pastries
R. W.
Great food and feels like a boutique. Vegan food too
K. H.
This place is fantastic! The breakfasts are SO YUM. i always get the brioche French toast with maple bacon. Never found anything like it in London.
D. O.
Amazing bakery - their cheese scones are the bomb. Can be a challenge to get a seat but that speaks volumes in itself. Great place.
J. P.
Nice staff, also very friendly. I will pop in any time for a coffee as they use quality coffee. I need to warn you about prices. #ExpensiveButGoodExpensive
P. S.
Great food! If you find yourself in Blackheath, head over to Gail's.

C. P.
Wicked cinnamon buns!

P. A.
Definitely overpriced but good lunch selection and tasty food. One of the nicest coffees in blackheath even though the staff serving are extremely slow
A. B.
Great place to enjoy a good book with good coffee and delicious pastries and snacks.
P.s. This cafe is not full table service. You have to order and pay at the counter.
M. B.
Nice place and food. Helpful and friendly staff. Love their olive bread and plain scones.
E. R. V.
Good coffee and wide range of foods at a fairly expensive price point compared to other nearby cafes, but they are very tasty treats.
I. A.
In front of the train station with plenty options for dessert, they serve food
There are plenty of spaces, so normally families go there
J. B.
Great atmosphere and food. Relax amongst the hassle and bustle of the cooks and bakers working around you. A brilliant experience.
D. C.
Great service and the selection of food is fantastic. One of the best if not the best café in the area. Very popular.

W. F.
Great bakery with delicious breads and cakes to choose from. It is expensive however and it does get very busy on the weekends, so get there early for breakfast.
R. B.
The food is good but not amazing. It's too small, especially around the counter. It can get very hot and crowded.
M. M.
Delicious cakes and good stuffing
P. R.
Nice place. Lovely sourdough cherry and current loaf. One of the staff knew what i meant when i said "long black" :)
A. M.
Friendly staff - efficient service - great bakery.
M. P.
Decent bread and friendly service, but always crowded at the counter. Sitting inside is a bit of a sauna (presumably from the kitchen downstairs?).
E. S.
Gail's bakery certainly has the best olive bread you can find in London alongside very tasty deserts.
T. m.
Nice coffee, great food selection, very warm, friendly staff, a bit pricey , nice toilets, handy to town centre andvtrain station

K. K.
I'm left wondering yet again why I bother coming here..... They ran out of soya (with another 3 hours to be open the could probably get some from the little supermarket next door. And they are soooooooo slow.... Maybe they are milking the oats
R. C.
It misses some caracter to make it a nice coffee place. More like a pub for coffee. Pricey as well.
N. B.
Nice coffee, good selection of cakes and pastries. Fairly large, so plenty of seating.
D. R.
The cinnamon buns are to die for, nice cosy place, really fresh baked goods, one of my fave cafés

M. L.

Excellent stuff however what happened to the lamb and pine nut rolls and not a fan of leek in quiche Lorraine
C. T.
The bakery looks lovely and smells great, I found the barrista to be a little on the slow side.

L. P.
Great coffee and baked goods, but we had such a dissapointing breakfast here I dont think we'll ever eat in again. Waited for ages for the food, and when it arrived it was the saddest plate of dried scrambled eggs and burnt bacon rashers I …
D. A.
£7 for two tiny pancakes is a bit too expensive. Queue in the morning was out the door and only one person at the till. There was a waiter, a lady, she had no sense of rush, she was wandering around the store with no purpose (or apparently) …
O. O.
Excellent buttermilk pancakes but Shakshouka lacked some taste - bright and airy space and interesting view of the kitchen in the cosy downstairs space
S. J.
Great coffee, great atmosphere. What more could one desire?
