Reviews of GAIL's Bakery Exmouth Market
S. S.
A good stop off if you are in the area . I thought the smoked salmon Bagel very good as well as some of the muffins and the patisseries. Took one star off due to the staff, who really do try their best, become a little overwhelmed at the busy times ....so your food is instant....unlike your tea and coffee which you need to be patient for. Worth a visit.
P. P.
Super friendly staff, delicious coffees and snacks. Had the Comte, leek and smoked ham quiche and oat milk flat white later. Delicious!
W. S.
Nice atmosphere and coffee, but not so great bread and the staff’s manner. The only moment the staff became amicable is when they chitchatted with each other.
d. r.
Absolutely love this place.!!! The place has a simple but very nice decor... the coffee is delicious, and the staff are very friendly.
It is a place where you will always want to come back....)
S. M.
The cinnamon rolls are unquestionably amazing, but I am not yet sure if it is worth the value.
Also, quite noisy/non-cozy in the morning.
K. F.
Nice place with great food. Seating limited. Good coffee and pastries.

One of the amazing bakeries in London situated in Exmouth Market in Clerkenwell.
Gail's have some mouth watering variety of desserts. We went there for a breakfast on Sunday morning. We have quiche, spinach roll and chicken burger which was pretty yum.
I. E.
Sooo good! Great filter coffee, small but excellent menu, all fresh and really tasty. Relaxed atmosphere despite it being busy!
K. M.
The best Gails bakery in London. I have been in many places in London, but this one deserves my review. The Italian coffee, delicious breakfast and the best cheesecake I have ever ate! The stuff is really friendly, when there’s some problem the stuff is always helpful and trying their best to resolve the issue. My favorite breakfast was French Toast with Beacon (I always ordered crispy). The prices are a little bit high, but even only to try this perfect cheesecake and coffee it’s definitely worth it. When I will be next time in London I will definitely come there again.
M. C.
Gail’s is the perfect place to catch up with friends or get some work/reading done. The wooden tables and colorful seats give a rustic sense that add to the coziness delivered by the yummy desserts and coffee. The cafe is bright, warm and very clean.
I do wish that my muffin was warmed up and coffee warmer. Some of the staff are not as friendly or thoughtful as others, which can be off putting.
Lastly (and sadly), Gail’s is overpriced.
You really are paying more for the atmosphere here though, and thankfully there’s WiFi so you can make the most out of it if needed.
D. J.
Beautiful food and drinks. The best sausage rolls and cinnamon buns ever. A little more pricer than my usual lunches, but well worth it everytime
P. K.
Great coffee and excellent bakery. The French Brioche is perfect. Nice setting. Can recommend.
J. H.
My first visit, and not really sufficient data for a full review, but my initial impressions were positive. I got the hot oat milk I sought, without any problems (not always a given, even in London) and the ambiance inside seemed nice, though we were outside. I would go again.
R. S.
It’s like you died and went to scone heaven. It’s a lovely place for breakfast (plenty of seating) with fantastic pastries and good coffee. I’m sure lunch is equally delicious. Everything looks amazing and see you can see them preparing and baking everything on the premises. I’m sad that I don’t live in London because I will be thinking about this place for a long time...
L. S.
Delicious breakfasts and bakery goods served with excellent coffee by a friendly staff.
P. S.
Beautiful pastries and well pulled coffee. Quick service. I just want to stare at that case all day.
J. G.
Excellent and friendly service, nice chilled out atmosphere , fresh food and very tasty
D. K.
Perfect place for breakfast! Very good coffee and amazing avo toast.
S. S.
Great place for breakfast. Love the variety of food. Staff could be friendlier. A bit pricey for what you get. Great coffee.
T. A.
The ham and cheese quiche and the scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam are delicious
I. A.
Really nice place, woody decorations delicious cakes and tea ☕️
A. A.
Lovely place with great bread and breakfast. I love the avocado on toast with coriander and lime. Yummy!
E.
Friendly staff, light music, good wifi, spacious seats. Coffee is great, porridge is huge! Bread is always yummy.
M. S.
Delicious! I had an excellent capuccino and I decided on a quiche but there were so many good choices that I could've justified just about any of the options there. Several outdoor seats set up for socially distant breakfast or lunch. Will definitely go to GAILs again :)
S. C.
Nice pastries at reasonable price. Good service!
V. S.
VEGAN FRIENDLY ! ❤️:D
The vegan chocolate walnut muffin is delicious and the vegan hot chocolate even more. The staff is very nice !!
M. D. W.
Great food - the sweet corn pancakes in particular are delicious! Occasionally a bit smoky in the main room - I think they need improved extractor fans.
M. C.
Huge range of cakes, pastries and scones! The Maple Pecan Drop scone was awesome!
B. S.
Great food. Came during peak lunchtime on a Saturday. Service wasn't fast but wasn't too slow. First time the sweetcorn pancakes came out burned but they were swiftly replaced. Good customer service. Vegan hot chocolate was excellent. Definitely return for a cake or 3...
A. S.
The prices are good and the quality is decent for what you're paying. We'll defo come back.
O. E. W.
Lovely cakes and pies baked on site. The food is nicely served and pleasing to the eyes. A calm atmosphere, with good wall decorations and attentive staff. My daughters love them and treated me to lunch there and breakfast on Saturday. Good opening times.😊👍
T. M.
Great coffee, tasty food and friendly staff!
C. Z.
Met some friends for coffee. Had the scrambled eggs on brioche. Delicious. I have not been to a Gail's in a long time. But it was worth the visit. Staff are great. Coffee is good apparently, I don't drink coffee. A total tea feind and so a pot of tea made me happy. Good value for money.
F. J.
By far the best service the best food great space and cleanest toilets.
This is how cafes should be.
I saw a mix of business meetings going on to, friends meeting, mummies and children having lunch. The atmosphere is very calm and serne.
The staff here are very friendly.
Every thing priced here i believe is standard.
They have a great selection but i only had a mocha so cannot say anything else.
A. P.
Tasty baked goods but a little short on service for a tea room, especially as it is not especially cheap. It would be nice to be served at the table particularly on a quiet week day!
J. A.
Good service. Very good scones
A. M.
A cosy little bakery with a good selection of sweet and savoury pastry and an impressive bread shelf.
A. A.
My local favourite. The bakery goodies and bread deserve a review in itself - so good, I always have to restrain myself from buying too much. The muffins and brioches and seasonal croissants literally drive me crazy, I can’t choose which one I want because I could eat 4 of each. The breads by a loaf or toasts are another story!
The staff are all friendly and very welcoming. I couldn’t ask for more from a local cafe. I go to many Gail’s locations around London, but this one is my favourite and I’m so happy to live nearby.

After my Boss had a rather bad experience, I wanted to feedback to Gail's and emailed them directly. Jessica picked up my email and was extremely helpful, she ensured action would be taken and offered my boss a complimentary soup for his next visit. He visited today and was met by the manager of the store who was very lovely and apologised for his previous bad experience, he gave him a complimentary soup and even a cake too to say sorry for the previous visit. Really impressed with the response time/actions. My boss will certainly return.
thank you again Gail's
J. H.
Lovely little cafe with a small selection of south facing seating outside (in the sun if you’re lucky!) a good variety of fillings for their Brick Lane bagels, especially the “salmon special” which is smoked salmon with cream cheese and all the trimmings. Yummy!
M. S. W.
Nice and spacious chain with very good coffee, bread and pastries. The artwork on the walls is great and it’s never too loud so it’s an ideal place to meet people semi-formally as well. Great selection of bread to buy to take home as well
S. W.
Gail's Bakery is a small chain with the feel and attention to detail of a little independent store. A huge range of cakes and breads, in a clean, bright homely space. Coffee and tea were pretty decent, but the cakes were to die for. The brunches look very tempting, too, so we'll be back to try those sometime.
C. T.
Absolutely love this place. The place has a simple but nice decor, the scones are good, the coffee is delicious, and the staff are friendly. There's a nice sky light and big tables inside to relax and talk to people. I just wish there were charging outlets so I could stay there and work all day!
S. M.
To be very honest it was very disappointing. The store looked welcoming yet had a painfully small selection to chose from but we purchased 4 items of which 2 were great and 2 tasted like cardboard. Staff were nice just lacked the end result
D. P.
Beautiful breads and products!
Highly recommended.
A. V.
Nice, spacious coffee and tea place. Temporary exhibitions of art that make the place different from time to time. Great chocolate and banana bread. Many other breast things. Not great for gluten free if you want to eat something. Nice staff.
A. L.
Their products are good. That's why you always come back but this Gail's in particular can get really smokey and disgusting in the morning/afternoon. The air is thick with the smell of burnt bread and eggs and this smell will prevail all throughout the day. Your hair, clothes will smell of burtn bacon and bread. I would not eat in. I would just come in, get the food and go somewehere else. Or eat outside but in a freezing January morning that's a bit impossible. For some reason it also attracts a lot of parents with your children. If you want a quiet place for a coffee and a morning read, this isn't your best choice.
P. T.
Excellent place for sweet or salted meals.
You can find excellent croissants or other pastries.
Would recommend going there for a all bite or tee time.
Also various type of breads are available.
J. D.
I use this cafe every couple of weeks. The tea is real tea made with proper tealeaves, not teabags. I remembered why I like Gail's so much today, as I sat elsewhere drinking watery and tasteless teabag tea from a paper cup. The staff are always friendly and attentive, and their cakes etc. are a delight.
j. b.
An astutely understated, spacious and bright interior and an enviable location.
A studied battery of cakes/pastries takes centre stage. Potently irresistible.
Impassively efficient service, at a price.
The coffee above reproach yet not really Premier League.
I wonder - was it as good for me as it was for you?
V. M.
Lovely bakery and coffee shop. Flat white was excellent as was the cheese straws!
A. R.
Great bakery and café! I always go there for their amazing white chocolate cheesecake and a heart warming chai latte. The café is quite spacious and you can see the bakers at work in the back. They also have really good quiches (coming from a French, you know you can trust this)
L. G.
had a cinnamon crumble that lightened my whole mood! I am still smiling about this. Had a bit of a struggle to decide on a dessert when I just grabbed this and did not regret it at all! It was so soft, but crispy and a little salty on top, super smooth and moist in the middle, just perfection (and I live in berlin, so really high maintenant when it comes to food!)
m. c.
Good coffee and food. The cookie was however too sweet.
A. M. Z. Z.
This is one of my favourite Gail's in London! I love having the soup of the day (please please don't miss the Couq Au Vin) and if you ask, you get a massive chunk of their organic bread. Don't skip the pastries and have the scones with coffee. Staff are also very nice :)
R. Y.
French toast with maple bacon. It was a bit too sweet to me.
L. A.
Absolutely love Gail's and was super excited when I discovered the shop close to me. Couldn't find my favourites both times I went in so I think I'll stick to ordering online to guarantee I get what I want as this particular outlet is busy. Lol.....
F. A.
Good standard place to have coffee and cakes. The service is ok, not that friendly or helpful. Nice cakes to take away. Good selection of scones but poor on the clotted cream part.
T. Y.
The prices are geared towards the higher end of what you'd expect to pay in London, despite the food being high quality it's still hard to justify. For a regular lunch location this is too much, but for a "lunch out somewhere nice" I'd say this would suit very well.
D. L.
Great vegan soup, lovely place
K. G.
Exmouth market is so full of amazing places to eat out, but Gail's is great for an afternoon coffee pit stop. Quite full with the yummy mummys and strollers you'd expect in this area. We ordered the sweet corn fritter pancakes which came with avocado and sour cream. Pay at the till.
A. T.
We bought some lunch take-away food today. The selection was interesting and the sizes were small enough to have a selection and they were all very nice. The staff were polite and helpful and we would happily buy from there again.
C. V.
Best pastries in London, superb and kind staff! Will definitely visit every time I'm in London!
P. S. Definitely try the rose and pistachio one!
F. P. T. (.
No wonder this place is buzzing and busy everyday. Went for a brunch that end up like a Patisserie
Assult as in doubt about which one of its paistry test better, só we order one of it and a large coffee to wash down.

J. W.
A small chain with the feeling of an independent, selling good tasty fresh bread, cakes and excellent coffee. The cinnamon bun is scrumptious! Quite expensive though.
R. D.
Union coffee and original sandwiches. I had a delicious harissa chicken, tapenade, yoghurt and coriander crusty sandwich. The decor is nice, options to sit on low seats/sofas, normal café tables or a high bench overlooking the open kitchen. Cakes looked good but I didn't try one!
P.
One of the nicest places to have breakfast in the area ☕️☺️👏🏼
M. D.
Really lovely selection of breakfast foods and pastries. Coffee was delicious and the café is furnished / designed really well. Breads look amazin' too
A. S.
Gail's is one of the most reliable chains in London - it's always cosy, never too busy and the bread is very good indeed. The Exmouth Market branch is much more spacious than it looks from the outside, and isn't just about the baked goods. Their chorizo and red bean soup of the day was pretty good, but you come here for treats like the flourless chocolate cake and herby potato bread (SO good). It's not cheap, but certainly less expensive than other cafes in the area.
S. I.
Everything here is very nice, sometimes nicer to look at than to buy. You may need to speak to your bank manager before purchasing you cake but a worthwhile treat now and again.
i. t.
Great bakery and relaxing place to hang out with friends
C. E.
Good food but staff could have been more welcoming.
D. K.
Pretty good coffee and simply superb eggs and bacon. Bircher muesli excellent too and incredible selection of pastries and bread. Wonderful place!
D.
Excellent place for scones and all kinds of pastries and good bread. Being German I cannot live without bread. Diese Bäckerei ist wunderbar!
V. F.
Food selection and quality are good, as is the coffee. Staff rotates a lot but somehow consistently takes too long to clean up dirty dishes.
E. D.
Excellent bakery products!!!
We had a wonderful brunch - great food and lovely staff.
I will definitely come back.
A. M.
Generally quite slow service. On my most recent visit, service for a take-out coffee was extremely slow and the coffee was served luke warm.
I. I.
Coffee is great here and I love the atmosphere. The rose pistachio cake and cinnamon bun are my favourite!
J. R.
Breakfast was good but options limited, croissants were excellent however. Coffee was ok, not great.
K. G.
Went to this bake shop and found it to be excellent in all aspects.
K. K.
All staff are very friendly and welcoming. Cozy place to meet friends or read, work on your own. Very spacious and always clean toilet!
F. R.
Average at best - they've managed to nail the aesthetic, but the actual food and coffee is pretty mediocre.
A. T.
Was rated really highly for the area and on trip advisor but was not that impressed. The place looks great, lots going on in the kitchen but the food was average...the bacon was pretty inedible.
T. A.
Love the brand, their goods are so delicious and nutritious. Waiting to my office to open so sitting in here with a coffee and a cinnamon bun
J. W.
Great breakfast, good coffee and delicious pastries. They also have a good range of bread for takeaway.
G. P.
I love Gails... Fresh pastries, tasty grub, good coffee and attentive staff... What's not to like ?
H. K.
Excellent baked goods and a range of seating options. A friendly place to work over coffee, especially outside of meal times.
R. C.
Good selection of bakery items made fresh. Coffee was good too. Highly recommend.
N. B.
Delicious food, especially the passion fruit cake. You can see all the chefs cooking at the back which is nice.
F. M.
Reliably good bread and pastries. The French dark sourdough and fibre muffin are favourites along with their caprese sandwich
K. S.
Cozy chain place with seats outside (though on a slope - not very comfortable!). The food is consistently good, try the cinnamon buns.
A. V.
Not cheap but then you are in London. Good coffee and massive range of cakes etc. Free WiFi and loads of benches inside.
M. L.
Excellent viennoiserie and bread, but the coffee is nothing to write home about. If they could serve decent coffee they would get 5 stars.
J. G.
Friendly staff, and a very delicious cake, I highly recommend it for breakfast
V. S.
Excellent bakery. Serving a large choice of pastries. Their breads are delicious!
S. H.
Best chocolate muffins ever!!!! Haven't tried lunch or anything else. Very busy.
E. S.
Best cinnamon buns in town ●□●
A. E.
Great atmosphere. Delightful baked goods. Quality coffee.
A. A.
Great cakes and baked goodness, coffe is ok - unfortunately they don't have a kitchen like they do in bloomsbury
E. N.
Always busy but great selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch. The eggs are delightful and the pastries are also great.
I. Y.
My favorite place for a proper scone in London!
They also bake nice Challa on weekends
D. D.
I bought the cookbook - need I say more! Friendly staff and great food, but can get a bit crowded at times - I usually use the take away service.
K. N.
Good selection of pastry, their coffee us good quality as well. Just bit pricey
A. W.
Gail’s is always a good default bakery when out and about. Good for Croissants and other pastries.
C. T.
Another place where you want to spend all your money and buy all the cakes. One of the few chains I like. I also like this one's set up with all the seating at the back.
A.
Come here pretty often for coffee and staff are always pleasant and coffee very nice
S. N.
Really nice place for coffee and cake on a sunny Sunday avo with friends. Great service and excellent apple cake.
K. L.
Great salads, coffee, breads and pastries. Great place to meet people if you can find spaces to sit
D. C.
Decent, but not fantastic cafe. The coffee is passable. The cakes are okay.
J. U.
Range of choices but the taste is just average
M. L.
Great pastries and good coffee. This branch can get busy, usally quietens down in the afternoon.
P. M.
Great bread. Good cakes. Good for a casual breakfast too, breakfast options are tasty.

M. M.
Great coffe and cakes, but it's a pity they don't have gluten free options
I. A.
Awesome sandwiches, coffee, and pastries. I had all 3 on my one visit. ;)
J. D.
Gails is pretty dependable, not amazing, pricey, but if you know the place, you know what you're getting.
C. M.
Not recommended for any hot food. Pastries are good, coffee OK and orange juice very fresh, but the rest is simply not a good idea.
A. H.

(Translated) The coffee was better than I thought,
It was good to eat because it did not break.
Jam and cream are also delicious :)
I went around 11 o'clock, but it was a weekend because it was a weekend.
I've been waiting for a while.
The scones are huge. I think it's a good place to have breakfast.
(Original)

(Translated) Good terrace with few tables. But very well oriented for the morning sun, if there is one, I recommend the original and very rich but a little expensive breakfasts. Not for every day. That's why I give it 3. Clean and all very rich.
(Original)
Buena terraza con pocas mesas. Pero muy bien orientada para el sol de la mañana, si lo hay Recomiendo los desayunos originales y muy ricos aunque un poco caros. No para todos los días. Por eso le doy 3. Limpio y todo muy rico.
P. C.
