Reviews of GAIL's Bakery High Street Kensington
L. I.
Super cute. Lots of indoor seating, small amount of outdoor seating. A little tight to navigate inside and in the line. Really good pastry and coffee. Good stop before the design museum
W. W.
My go to! I love the avocado toast and bacon. Coffee Is also amazing. They have lots of indoor seating as well and are quick and friendly. Huge range of baked goods as well. Love coming here
M. G.
We had a quick lunch here on a day out with pastries, fresh soups and coffee. Mushroom soup/broth was warming with plenty of wintery aromas and spices, yet still well balanced. Tomato soup tasted natural and not too sweet.
Plenty of seating and quick service.
M. P.
Great place for coffee and meet up. Has lovely seating area outside, just next to Design museum. Some pasty taste stunning.
А. Б.
What a place! Perfect for a quicker breakfast and you still get amazing coffees and pastries which are simply best.especually ham and cheese, amd almond croissants. What matters for me that there is also a range of healthier dishes such as porridge, little pots of overnight oats (best ever!) or egg spinach casserole, so u have a balanced delicious breakfast.
A. N.
Lovely place to go for breakfast, lunch or just to get a coffee. The food is quite fresh and high quality. The boxed salads are scrumptious and healthy for a picnic takeaway. Baked items are delicious as well and there are a whole lots of options to suit any pallette. It is our go to place for Sunday morning breakfast and we particularly love the French toast and scrambled eggs.
M. B.
Excellent and cozy bakery, you can find all types of breads and pastries, yogurts, salads, soups, drinks, etc.
I really like the atmosphere of this shop, not too noisy, perfect to read your book or work/study. It was a cold day when we visited, so stopping here was a perfect choice for a little break from walking. The cappuccino is really nice and enjoyed the brownie, the lemon cake and the Sultana muffin.
M. P.
excellent quick breakfast spot on High Street Ken, and conveniently located right next to the Design Museum. So much breaded goodness to choose from! The pickle and cheese sandwich was particularly delicious!
N. Q.
First of all i think Gails is a great bakery, fantastic bread. If you are lucky and in time you can maybe get the potato and rosemary loaf. The danish spelt sourdough with raisins is also hearty and delicious. I think you cannot go wrong with any of the bread.
Bakery products are equally delicious, especially the flourless chocolate cake, and the cheese cake which is one of the best cheese cakes in London.
If you eat in and order a quiche it will be served with a little side salad, and if you decide on eating a Salad it will be served in a plate. The breakfast is also great but you have to be on time to be able to have a full array of options.
The bathrooms are always clean at this branch but I wish I could say that about the glasses. Several times used glasses with lipstick stains are put on the table, and just over all the glasses are not cleaned properly. That, along with certain rude staff members is the reason for the 4 star rating. A rather tall, strongly built blonde lady in overalls always has a chip on her shoulder, and treats you like she is doing you a huge favour; but not all the staff is like this, the others are very friendly and easy going, so it depends on your luck.
Don’t let rude, mean bullies stop you from trying the cheese cake!
E. A.
Good location, great service, great food/tea.
I do like variety though and this place doesn't update its menu or have any specials so it's a 4 stars for me.
C. F.
Great selection of cakes and pastries. Maybe just a little overpriced. But a nice outside eating area so you’ll definitely get a seat while only outside eating is available.
J. D.
Good vegan options and nice place to meet friends for coffee.
However, I do think the prices are a bit steep.
A ‘large’ soya hot chocolate (pictured) is £5!
S. G.
Their salads are absolutely epic!
(grab one and enjoy in the nearby Kyoto garden)
S. A. N.
... nice cozy place, pistacchio cake is moist and iced coffee is refreshing. could become our weekend must visit. staff are nice and friendly. located close to holland park. car parking on sunday is not a problem, just use the side streets.
M. B.
The was not only very friendly they were also cery quick and the food was amazing. And compared to other mayjor European cities the food was cheap.
C. R.
If you are looking for a delicious latte and gluten free bread, this is your place. I had their gluten free sourdough bread and it was absolutely delicious. I wish they had a bakery in the US!
C. G.
Delicious Iced chocolate.with oat milk, my friend said the coffee was also good. Although as we were seated close to the open kitchen I noticed when we left that my clothes smelled strongly of food.
T. K.
Very nice place to stop by to have a good cup of coffee and something from the bakery. They have sitting facilities outside and inside. Accessible well also for disabled people (toilet as well)
M. Y.
Superb freshly prepared food and coffee, service that couldn’t go far enough a must if you are in London
A. P.
The brioche bread with cream and fruits that I had the opportunity to taste, It was delicious. And the espresso tasted good.
H. B.
The service here is great. One of the best branches of Gail’s Bakery.
J. A.
It is a great bakery, the range is very extensive, the coffee and drinks refreshing, the staff are very professional and friendly. I enjoy stopping by after the design museum for a strong coffee and something sweet or savory. I am never disappointed by anything on the menu. The location is great and seats plenty and clean toilets.
I always stop by here when I am in the local area.
P. R.
Why do I love Gail's....Because it's fabulous. Today I needed cheering up and bought a sausage rolls.. absolute bliss. The San Francisco sourdough is a favourite as is the baguette. Year on year they build on their success ...but their standards and quality are superb. It an absolute pleasure when you can honestly say you feel like you're are shopping at a local family business....what a business.
C. S.
Well stocked and something delicious to eat always. I would give it a 5 star if the takeaways where more varied! Coffee is good!👍☕
D. K.
Excellent variety and quality of pastries ! Fast service and cosy atmosphere.
E. M.
Lots and lots of options and they all taste so good!!!
D.
Great coffee shop and bakery. Very nice blueberry brioche today on a nice outside table. Excellent choice of eats. Indoor seats and seats downstairs. Next to the Design Museum and Holland Park.
T. B.
I loved this place so much I spent nearly £40. This is the one at the Southbank. I could have bough more there is so much choice, lovely savouries, sausage rolls, bread, pies, cakes etc. All lovely and fresh. This is a nice big place ( better than the Wimbledon branch by far). I really wish there was one in this part of the world or they offered a franchise... I love it this much. Sorry no photos cause I ate it all, well what was left after everyone had snaffled all my goodies (gutted)
K. L.
The food at Gail's Bakery never fails to impress me. In particular for myself, their almond croissant is one of the best I have had, ever. Their coffee is decent enough. They have an abundant selection of baked foods, be it sweet or savoury. They also sell some some sourdough breads, ciabattas and baguettes. I believe (I may be wrong in saying all) that all baked foods are made in store.
K. A.
I do like this Gail's in Kensington High Street!
If I feel like a little sweet treat with my coffee!
A bit more expensive than some of the others, but their sandwiches, cakes ,and pastries are all non packaged , and offer different choices compared to Pret, Costa or Starbucks!
J. C.
This was the highlight of my stopover in London. I am from a rural Australian town and cannot but find London too big, too busy, too confusing. But Gail's Bakery really hit the spot. A top-notch flat white and a fantastic ham and cheese croissant made my day and brightened up my London memories by a great margin. In addition, the staff was super friendly and helpful.
E. S.
More of a woman's eatery.. Very good Earl Grey tea. The team do not clear the tables fast enough for the next customer. 3 stars, because of the toilet door, nobody closes it and very off putting. Their should be a large lettered sign on the inside of the door to keep it shut.
J. D.
As like other Gail’s chain. Their product is “standard”. As in, expect the same throughout; specially with baked goods.
As for hot drinks. That is another matter. The quality of coffee will vary from location to location, to who is making it for you.
Unfortunately, being a stickler for coffee (I used to make them, whilst in the same industry).
I found that recently the quality have dropped (or to be more apt; the care). I have had over heated milk (burning the coffee) to even the wrong type of coffee. Having to go back, and insist that they rectify their mistakes.
This wasn’t the case months ago.
I hope that they would address this issue soon, as it used to be one of my stop over bakeries.
S. M.
Only discovered Gail's recently. Seems to be a consistent quality across branches and should be with common menu. Delicious french brioche and bacon and good cinnamon bun. Noting common compliant of toilet door being left open to sitting customers a bit off putting. Would revisit.
K. F.
Too noisy and echoey, and uncomfortable seating arrangements and chairs, which make you want to leave as soon as possible, this may be a ploy of the owners to get rid of customers quickly in place of other customers, therefore bringing in more money. If this is the reason for its discomfort, the business won't last long, people will go elsewhere. Not enough space. Good coffee.
J. U.
As always excellent food. Special note to the barista who did a fantastic job of enforcing strict social distancing - keeping herself, her colleagues and customers safe.
I. Q.
DO NOT GET TABLE SERVICE. Order for 'takeaway'. That way you get your order immediately.
Table service means you wait on average 10 mins. Been here five times and since I started ordering 'to go'. I've been served faster.
K. D.
I love Gail's bakery in every form and shape the different branches come in. I have never been disappointed (well, only a tiny bit sometimes, when their extraordinarily delicious Madeleines are sold out already) no matter where I visited. My go to are aforementioned Madeleines, the sausage rolls and the dark French sourdough bread I always take home to devour during the week.
w.
Pricey but lovely place and lovely little bites
M. D.
Good coffee, great croissants, but fluffy eggs like rubber and toast an inch thick. Fine for a quick stop but there's more on offer towards High Street Ken tube station.
M. H.
Hip, trendy, expensive, tasty, bulging with a myriad of breads, coffees and teas. The summer fruits compote, Greek yogurt and Gail's granola is excellent. The pale wood and white interior is welcoming and airy but it can be a little noisy. Free WiFi
J. C.
Gales are one of those unusual bakery/coffee shops that are still indipendent and trying hard. they have a great selection of ready to go lunch time sandwiches and filled bread options as well as some unusual pstries and cakes. Coffee is also good. A bit more expencive than the usual high street brands but orth the extra if you appriciate quality and taste.
S. C.
Great fast casual bakery and restaurant. Good for breakfast and lunch. A bit pricey but worth it when compared to other nearby options. Fresh baked goods and items made to order. Good coffee and tea options as well.
N. S.
Our favorite bakery chain in London. We usually buy the breads there and occasionally some pastries too. All the breads are sour dough based vegetarian and most are even vegan. Ask for help if you're in doubt- they have a list of all products with all relevant information about food allergies and sensitivities.
s. b.
Looks warm and inviting from the street and is even more so inside. So happy I stopped in for a sweet pastry and tea during a very long day. Highly recommend.
A. S.
Excellent and reasonably priced cafe on Kensington High Street. The pastries are excellent. I liked the goat's curd and honey toast and my daughter really enjoyed the pancakes.
L. H.
Nice bakery, tea was nicely served, cake was delicous. Cake was tasty, very fresh, could taste the flavours, very pricy for a small cake. But would definently have again. Service was good.
e. r.
This is their £4 hot chocolate to have in... I was actually expecting to take longer then 2 min to drink...
C. I.
Nice atmosphere, good coffee, tasty food.
s. g.
This is a must, where ever you are in London, find your local outlet. Cinnamon buns are really good and the bread is fantastic. Avo on toast via delicious.
J. Z.
A wonderfully nice place to have an affordable and yet delicious snack. I wish people from popular Polish bakeries such as Awiteks, and Lajkonik took a trip there as well :)
E. “. M.
well located to grab a coffee a go to Holland Park for a bit of sun. perhaps they should ask people to wait outside for their coffee in this period, but it not easy
M. T.
Great atmosphere and service. Happy staff always sign of a good shop I think. Not cheapest place you'll ever get your lunch...but that's not why you go there!
A. Y.
Favorite English breakfast. Loved the English muffin, eggs, and bacon. Very close to Hyde Park. Would love to return!
I. R.
The grilled cauliflower sandwich is one of the best veggie sandwiches I’ve had in London. So good!
K. T.
Gails is one of my favourite baker chains in London. This one is located right next to the design museum and has upstairs and downstairs seating. They have a good range displayed as soon as you walk in.
A. S.
Very delighted!
C. F.
Excellent Service.. had a wonderful cappuccino exactly the way I like it.. thanking you
G. S.
Another branch of this very welcome chain. Food still first class and reasonably priced. Only draw back is lack of outside space to sit, yet so near to Holland Park!
J. Z.
A wonderfully nice place to have an affordable and yet delicious snack. I wish people from popular Polish bakeries such as Awiteks, and Lajkonik took a trip there as well :)
O. A.
Yes pastries are amazing, but not when they are microwaved ... tables are almost always dirty from the previous customers... best for a take away and non microwaved
B.
Outdoor seating, most people wearing masks inside, has filter coffee.
G. M.
Got there last night just before closing. A lovely place with a friendly and professional staff.
Thank you guys!
C. A.
For the first time I felt welcomed in this particular Gail's as they are not very happy . The reason why was the young man that helped us was covering someone he works in a different location .Bring him back ...
A. Y.
Favorite English breakfast. Loved the English muffin, eggs, and bacon. Very close to Hyde Park. Would love to return!
T. H.
Great food and service, took quite a while for the coffee to be made though
T. H.
Very good baked goods and decent coffee. Staff seem to be very rushed and the wait for coffee can be long.
E.
Delicious coffee and great selection of handmade baked goods, staff weren’t bothered about making an impression though
D. S.
Pan Chacola is not what I expected
I. R.
The grilled cauliflower sandwich is one of the best veggie sandwiches I’ve had in London. So good!
S.
As any Gail's, food and drinks don't disappoint. This location is bigger than most and very nice to spend a chilled afternoon or have a nice brunch!
M. “. S.
Love this branch. The staff are friendly and the bakes are delicious! I recommend trying the honey cake and tahini & chocolate bites.
K. A.
Lovely staff & food despite it being expensive.
M. R.
Best sour doe bread and fresh food in town. Don't miss the garlic and olive bread. Breakfast there is amazing.
D. R.
Great drinks and snacks, expensive.. As expected in the area to be fair...and better than the Design museum cafe round the corner.
E. B.
So many good options! We had the scones which were amazing 😍 Good iced coffees too, really liked it here!
S.
The coffee is incredibly good! For lactose intolerant this is the place! Oatly cappuccino!!! Outstanding. Thank you
P. D.
Was expecting more vegan pastry options, they do have some though. The vegan granola was yummy.
I. K.
Mediocre everything. Funny how some places just settle for being mediocre. Mediocre bread, mediocre coffee, mediocre breakfast. This is definitely the one. Good news though - there’s rarely a queue!
T. d.
Nice and cosy cafe, Good coffee, Good sandwiches, I had the lentil soup, a must try, was crowded in a Sunday adternoon
R. H.
fresh , superb vegan sandwiches and the best coffee I've had this whole trip to London.
C. a. K. T.
I always come back for the coffee and the Chelsea buns. They also serve quite hearty soup which is perfect for the winter.
F. F.
Good food but please inform your employees your staff that we don't come to have an argument nor are we interested in pursuing an argument & for sure not before my coffee, it's so much easier to apologize
L. H.
Great friendly place to have a coffee.

Grabbed some lunch on our way to Holland Park. It was a bit busy, but the service was very kind and they had quite a bit of staff around. I found the baked goods to be lovely and the coffee was good as well. I especially recommend the cheese straws and the avocado & chickpea sandwich.
J. S.
Can’t recommend the almond croissant 🥐 more highly! Please walk past the corporate coffee and stop in here!

(Translated) Super nice little break before visiting "Amy: beyond the stage" in December 2021...
It smells good, there are all colors and for all tastes!
A little Latte with cinnamon...and your choice for the pastries....
Still as cool as a place 😉 (February 2022)

(Translated) Incredibly delicious pastries. The feeling that there is no harm from the test, but only benefit. The most delicate cream, which is specially served with biscuits.
I really liked this bakery chain. Perhaps the only negative is that the prices are not cheap. But the baking is worth it

Невероятно вкусная выпечка. Ощущение, что от теста нет никакого вреда, а только польза. Нежнейшие сливки, которые подают специально к коржикам.
