Reviews of Gail's Bakery Highgate
C. P.
Lovely Gails -
We had some sandwiches and ice latte to take out . The food quality was great and the service was speedy and friendly . Some tasty looking produce on display too .
S. T.
First time visiting Gail’s Lovely staff hana offered us a cinnamon bun to taste after a long day at work 🥲! Had to come back the next day to purchase a cinnamon bun again. Great prompt service.
Would definitely visit again 😊
A. B.
Popped into this Gail's after a long walk. Nice prompt service despite how busy the venue was. Some nice seating outside and a little more seating inside than it appears at first. Had an always reliably delicious Sausage Roll and a fairly standard Cappuccino.
M. H.
Gail’s is an excellent chain of bakeries and this particular location is my favourite. I went several times on my vacation and every product was great, especially the scones and the quiche. Bathroom is clean too.
V. S.
If you know Gail's you know what to expect. If your new then excellent coffee delicious cakes and savoury snacks await you.
R. C.
Great bakery and cafe. Great quality and good prices. Staff welcoming and helpful. Super selection of cakes and snacks.
I. J.
Light and spacious branch of the posh cake-and-pastry cafe/lunchery chain. Food is very good. Service is brisk. Good spacing between tables makes this branch a cosy hangout.
K. P.
Not sure what it is about this place, but it made me want to move to Highgate. Staff are lovely, atmosphere is amazing and its just a comfortable place to sit and chat for a bit. It is a little pricey though, but they serve little teeny tiny sandwiches which I thought were adorable and irresistible so ah well 😁

If I was lucky enough to go to a heavenly place like Gailes again, I would never leave, I would never go back to my most important works
G. M.
Great breakfast, great food!! Definitely going back again! Lots of savory and desserts dishes to choose from!
A. V.
One person with dark hair diligently serving, overworked. 2nd worker finally comes out.... moves at a snails pace. Finally worker 2 clears the tables but doesn’t wipe anything down, food left all over the tables even when not busy.
Great chai great space - needs a decent manager who actually manages staff.
Man ahead of me complained - don’t blame him. For a reputable bakery sadly this was a “fuster cluck”
Still won’t accept cash! Why not?????
R. H.
Has gone down a bit since I was here a year ago. Staff are more concerned about rushing than providing service, sat for 15 minutes without tables being cleaned and cleared. Was served food with one of the ingredients missing, not told before hand. Really disappointed this has deteriorated as I used to like it here.
O. V.
I regularly buy soy flat white and I enjoyed it but in the last two weeks the quality changed: the soy milk with curds is more like tofu, which seems to be a know problem with soy milk temperature. I’m not sure if the technique or ingredients have changed as this did not happen before. I hope my feedback will help!
Updated: thank you for taking your time to check my review and improved! Soy flat white is just great! I’ve updated feedback.
C. S.
Very well organised shop with a quick moving queue. The food is definitely Gail's standard and very delicious as usual. The service was nice and I got quickly approached once in the shop.
M. N.
Gail’s has cracked the formula for a neighbourhood bakery/café. Great fresh bread, inviting displays of all the pastries. While the pandemic lasts they all have queues outside. Just wish the coffee was better.
A. Y.
I rate Highgate Gails' mixed varieties of scones, breads and cakes very high. The quality of produce is first class. Also I have not been in and had a bad experience..ever. Knowledgeable staff recommendations for ethical and vegan produce. They're always a polite and friendly atmosphere which means they're doing something right!

We visited after hours walking around Highgate Cemetery (100% recommend) and were in desperate need of a sit down and a coffee.
We arrived an hour before they closed but were surprised that there was no food / bakery available - not even in the fridge. The team were obviously closing down. We ordered a coffee and sat down - my partner visited the loo which locked behind him and he couldn't get out. I asked one of the team behind the counter if it was possible to open the door for him to which she replied "he shouldn't have done that, why didn't he read the sign?! The lock is broken! There's a sign right there!!" - I said I appreciate that but at this moment can we just open the door for him. She told me to wait a minute and she would do it.
The coffee we ordered was nice, but as we were sitting next to the counter which was being cleaned, the spray they were using was going all over us and smelled of strong chemicals. The same woman who helped us with the toilet was loudly cleaning and spraying all of the coffee machines and talking to another colleague across the counter about "Just think, we'll be done soon and we're both off tomorrow, thank god!!"
Not the best Gales environment I've ever experienced.
C. F.
Good food as always,quick service,despite that a bit crowded at 9am .
M. A.
Really nice cozy outlet for a Gail's. Came with a friend, picked up coffees and apple crumble pies for a walk in the park close by. Loved both the walk and the food ;)
G. B.
Lovely corner spot and natural wood fit out with lovely food selection and great coffee. Staff are usually lovely and friendly. However it’s a bit grubby! Wiping tables, sweeping floors and polishing utensils is a must! But still a great spot - just need a bit of cleaning training with the staff/more staff if they are overstretched serving and don’t have time to clean.
C. B.
A surprise to see such professional
Service . Such a wide variety of food in a relatively limited area. Room for improvement in ambience and limited space.
W. B.
Great for a coffee and lunch. Just wish you could get salad with the quiche as a bit dry on its own.
S. Y.
all the pastries looks very appealling and they have the best scones ever
E. R.
Lovely bakery with such a wide range of delicious food. The atmosphere is brilliant and the staff are always so friendly. I would highly recommend the breakfast rolls, they are all divine!
T.
Love this bakery. Bread is really fresh and well maid. Most bread is sourdough with a big choice of various types. Also can sit in and have teas coffees and cakes or sandwiches. Although a bit expensive, all produce is excellent.
L. G.
Lovely place and neighbourhood only a few minutes walk from the beautiful Waterlow Park. Coffee game is always on point, give the chocolate cookies a go with your cuppa and thank me later 😊 Prices are a bit high, especially have in is my con.
C. L.
Love this Gail’s Bakery in the heart of Highgate village, cheddar & chives scone is my fave and despite often having to queue, service is quick and friendly! 🤗✨
F. C.
Very expensive coffee. £3.45 for a flat white with oat milk?!
The best cafes in London will charge no more than £3 for the same.
Coffee was good though
A. T.
Cute place, good service and nice range. Coffee is great! I had the oat milk one and it was great! I always think it's quite hard to find a good non dairy coffee.
M. H.
Fantastic quality - love the sausage rolls, chicken burger and brioche! There is often a long wait for coffee, and can be tricky to find a table - but that's because it's so popular!
P. A. A.
I like Gail's but i find it too noisy and service is not good neither
J. G.
To die for coffee. Great selection of cakes etc. I was expecting to have a hot cross bun as these were pictured on Instagram but alas there were none. Table wobbled.
It was busy with customers so doing something right.
J. A.
Very good hot chocolate
P.
Fresh and flakey croissants. Excellent coffees
H. S.
My favourite bakery in Highgate, delicious fresh goodies, friendly and efficient staff.
A. P.
Cosy and warm on a chilly Bank Holiday. Unfortunately the hot chocolate was not at all hot when it arrived. It went back with the waitress never to return in a warmer version....
E. B.
Every place like Highgate village need a bakery like this. Luckily Highgate village got one. It makes it a true village, and not somewhere in North London.
m. l.
Lovely bakery products. Very busy given only take away but amazingly efficient and friendly staff
J.
Staff on the weekends are all under 18 and rude but the food is good. And it's a Gail's so makes me feel well classy and that when I'm in there
m. v.
Quiet vibe no muzak scrummy bread & cakes & v good coffee..staff are lovely my fave coffee stop
E. F.
Lovely food! Fresh savoury bakes and cakes. Also soups and salads.
N. C.
Choice of great artisan bread, patisseries and other baked food. Very pricey but worth it. Small café attached.
E. M.
I love their bread! But pastries and coffee also very good. Minus is the price, but for London it's not too shocking
S. D.
Wish I'd ordered the rich tasting flat white my wife had and not the weak mocha I drank.
M. N.
Nice selection of cakes and sandwiches. Our coffee was lukewarm and found the staff unhelpful and they could be a little more friendly.
R. V.
Absoluted loved this place. The food is pricey but worth it. Bought some sourdough too. Exceptionally tasty.
C. S.
Great products and coffee with a nice indoor seating area and a very small outdoor area on the street
I. P.
Nice place with friendly staff. Shame they had no gluten free options. Good coffee
D. M.
Great coffee! Great Service!
A. K.
Excellent quality & variety of fresh bread, pastries and cakes. Staff always busy but always friendly.
N. H.
Best Bakery I have ever been to...in terms of meals to choose from...amazing efficient staff...friendly and attentive...thanks.
A. R.
Always friendly staff and lovely to work from. Doors are always open which can be a bit chilly in the winter.
A. B.
Lovely bakery on the hill, great coffee, very clean, and friendly staff.
S. J.
Amazing selection like the other branches of Gail's. Given that it is a chain it does do a good job of not looking and feeling like one. Good job!
m. o.
I love Gail's bread! But not very keen on staying in their cafe. For some reason it feels like at the station
N. S.
Great food, however, you have to get there early as they tend to run out of ingredients
X. D.
Good flat white. Pastries are always tasty and slightly over priced... But it's worth it.
M. W.
Excellent love it there
F. R.
Nice seating area, pricey as any GAIL's, service is a hit and miss, selection of food is a mixed bag as for any GAIL's.
A. C.
Overpriced and not enticing cakes.
Bread looked good but definitely priced for where it is placed.
Would not go back
C. B.
Nice and decent food shame they don’t allow dogs.
S. G.
Very cute place and cosy. I generally like the coffee and cinnamon rolls.
J. C.
Pleasant enough. Good blueberry muffin, flat white coffee quantity a bit mean.
B. L.
The best coffee around, and the baked good are to die for. Very friendly staff at this location too.
P. B.
Yummy food and friendly staff but there were stacks of dirty plates on all the tables
V. A.
Excellent bread, pastries and sandwiches. it is a bit pricey but you get great sourdough.
J. C.
Great place to have a coffee or food - bread is BANGING and there's some yummy mummies knocking about if you feel brave
L. M.
It was very good, nice coffee, nice pastries, just wish nobody used a hammer on the window that day.
T. F.
One of the best cafes we've visited in a long time!
A. W.
Nice place and service is friendly, if a bit slow. Cakes and pastries are excellent but the coffee is a bit weak.

C. H.

S. W.
Very tasty food, first class service
D. R.
Nice bakery... but the grumpiest staff ever! They seem allergic to smiles!
J. B.
Cosy and warm on a cold day, friendly staff good selection of food and drink
P. K.
Very nice, cozy place, somewhat loud but good place for some 'home office'.
P. K.
Friendly place with good food choices and a few options for vegans
C. R.
Full of annoying Highgate muns and hard wooden benches. Food mediocre and over priced. Pain Q better.
K. C.
Nice atmosphere, nice escape from the sun / long walk. Nice food!
