Reviews of Gail's Bakery Southbank
麵.
Luckily to find my favourite Japanese soya milk “Bonsoy” there.
The pastry also looked so good and intended to get some. But then just only paid for the soya milk, the staff Indy gave me three kinds of bread🥖.Probably the bakery shop was about to close.
It was really wonderful for Indy’s offer. My flat mate and I had one almond croissant respectively for supper. It still tasted good and crispy.
Thank you for her kindness!!

This was my first visit to a Gail's Bakery and I now understand their popularity.
I was a little disappointed that they had run out of most porridge toppings, but understood given how busy they seemed.
Delicious porridge and oat milk latte.

Food is good but management is bad!
For take away highly recommend. Food is amazing and services is fast but if you want to eat there , place is always full and some people order 1 cup of tea and sit for hourssssss! While you have your tray waiting and no body cares ! There is outside sitting area but it was cold and we could not handle it.
The bathroom was one of the dirtiest one I ever used .
Facilities are fine but still management is sooooo weak .

QUAINT NOT QUIET
After doing a river cruise and the London eye I was looking for some lunch. I steeped in here out of the rain and found myself a table after (some) time. For a sandwich, 2x choc babka and 3x hot choc it was £27 which I think is a little expensive, albeit its London location. All the food was fab, fresh 10/10. The hot choc was nice but small and not as dark as I expected. Does have a nice rustic interior and has that Sunday brunch vibe to it. Would recommend and would return, especially as they are all over London.

Lovely bakery and great food. We ordered breakfast one morning and after 25 minutes we still didn’t have our food. Turned out the kitchen didn’t have the order. The manager came over and apologies profoundly and gave us free drinks and cake which was a nice touch. Looking forward to ordering some things online for home delivery.

Went to this place twice in one day as mom was doing some tests early at St thomas hospital and needed a place to have breakfast and entertain a 2 year old toddler. It is a very short walk away from London eye and London dungeons right by the bank with a nice park to keep the little one entertained. The food and bread is delicious and very clean. One thing to note is if you are worried about covid, It can get very crowded and I wouldn't recommend eating in as the line which seems constant will be right beside you. They do have outdoor seating tho and lovely staff. Can't explain how tasty the selections and fresh the bakery goods are. One minor qualm I ordered the eggs for takeaway however one of the staff din realise it can't be taken away so ended up having to "eat in" outside. No big deal but just be aware that not everything can be taken away.

Nice cafe located next to my hotel and London Eye. Beautiful arrangement of pastries and breads. I tried the Baked Eggs with bacon, coffee, and macchiato, with a slice of raspberry and peach cake. Everything was great. Lovely staff.

I love Gails! Happy to find this branch near St Thomas' hospital. Popped in for some treats after a collecting my husband after he had eye surgery. Had a lovely little chat with the friendly staff and that really made my day. Thank you. We will be back after the check up! The take outs today were delicious. Especially the quiche. Yum. Yum. Yum.
L. S.
Like their different bakery options they have and customer service in this branch was fine.

This is a great spot for a cup of tea with a view. If you sit outside in their patio seating, you have the perfect view of the London Eye. It's a great, affordable, place to take friends and family visiting the big city. It's just a short 5 minute walk from the London eye and Westminster.

Great place. Friendly service. Busy around lunch time

World-class coffee quality; amazing, brilliant experience.
What a great visit!
From the moment one walks-in- welcoming, genuine warm smiles are waiting for you. Order delicious, freshly made treats and coffee and the service is nothing short of world-class, but wait- the best is yet to come- your coffee made by baristas that are truly making every coffee with care. They make you latte like on “barista championships”- BRAVO! Dain and Angel!!!
(Coffee was sooo great, I ordered another two!)
The team interactions are pleasant with each other and you can see that true “team work” is happening. They should sell tickets to see that!
Seamless, smooth, pleasant experience awaits for customers here, I was so impressed by all this that I had to ask who is the Manager? It turns out Manageress Katerina was running the team on that day- thank you for great experience!
Customers all happy and chatting around- you now have new regular customer, I am home now, writing this review, still impressed and will tell all my friends about it!!!

Excellent coffee, friendly staff, and delicious baked goods, goods which look quite amazing on display -- it is a tough choice!
It would be better if the queue was processed a bit faster to order a takeout though. It can get busy.
I can thoroughly recommend the croissants, Danish pastries and blueberry muffin. I see also that they make smaller treats -- I like this idea -- so you don't always feel so guilty taking on a large pastry.

First time we have visited Gail's as we were staying in the hotel just around the corner. It was busy but not overcrowded, the service was Spot on and everything was nice and clean and all the food really well displayed. She was a great place to just kick back and enjoy some really nice lunch time food. We even got to see a mini celebrity while we were in there! I will definitely recommend the 2 minute walk from London eye the food here, we were really surprised it wasn't absolutely bursting with people the day we were in there. Top place!
C. D.
Fantastic cakes and coffee available. Close to London eye and st Thomas hospital. Very nice the desserts with pistachio
V. R.
Food was nice but odd systems. We got our food fairly promptly but were then told it would be 20 minutes until we got our coffees. They then made coffees for people who were behind us in the queue. We chased again and were told we were at the end of the list for our coffees to be made. They carried on making coffee for people who'd arrived after us. Some of my food was salty (bacon) and I was too thirsty to eat it until I got a drink. Finally did get our coffees after 10 minutes but it spoiled our enjoyed of our breakfast.
I also had problems ordering what I wanted as it was two sides and was told I couldn't have them on their own. The main courses contained gluten - hence my ordering two sides (bacon and smashed avocado) instead of a main. In the end I just asked my husband to add my two sides to his main order and then it was acceptable. Very tasty food but won't be returning.

What a fantastic bakery right next the London Eye! Hana was so gracious this morning helping me with my order. Favorite place
K. J.
Great baked goods and excellent service! I stopped by on Monday 6th September, close to closing time, and bought some sweet treats. The staff were SO nice and the cinnamon buns were delicious! Will definitely go again!
s. c.
Lovely little place nestled just a 5 Min walk from the London eye. Serves bread, pastries, sweet and savoury treats etc. All baked fresh that day. Go here every time I visit London. Small so worth getting in quick to get a seat but amazing food and service
I. S.
The place was quite dirty but let's say that's fine considering the amount of people. The scones were okish but the stuff gave them in bags even if I said I'll have them in. They said they no longer give plates. I said OK. Person after me in queue got plates, so the one after him..
L. R.
There are so many things to choose from!
Damn, I was just looking at everything and my brain went blank (in a good way).
After a while I choose the cinnamon swirl and it was good but really sugary! Didn’t have much taste beside the sugar.
Do think the rest is really good though. Wish I choose something else now…but I’ll just have to go back then😉
S. “. E.
Great food, all freshly made, fantastic coffees! Amazing pastry. A bit pricey but worth it just for the location and buzz! You get what you pay for. Highly recommended
T. W.
Huge frequenter of Gail's in Chels - Visited this one as was in the area! I would battle anyone, anytime for but a sniff of Gail's Pan Au Chocolat! Fortunately battle was what I had to do! It get BUSY in here! You might have to get the "tut tut" eyes out at the laptop users who could do with effing off! You can understand why though, Easily the finest bakery chain in the City!
S. K.
Great place for breakfast and lunch. Food was really good, we had quiche, porridge sausage rolls, croissants and more, also really good coffee and friendly staff. We will keep coming back whenever we are in the vicinity.
P. W.
Ist visit had a pot of tea and crossont sat outside cleaned each table use. Friendly staff.
J. M.
We came for a quick lunch and loved it, service was good and the lady explained everything we were unsure about! I had a vegan hot cocoa and it was delicious, the quiche was also one of my favourite items, the sausage roll was good too. The little haznelut tart was perfect just sweet enough
D. D.
100% the BEST Gail's I've visited. Everything is perfect. The staff are lovely, in particular Maria, who is lovely and makes the perfect coffee! The decor and lighting, as well as fresh products make it one of my favourite coffee places in London!! Visit!
H. C.
Great cafe that is slightly tucked away from the main tourist route around the London Eye, so easy to find a table. The food is good but a bit disappointed that a lot of items had run out even by 1.30pm.
B.
A large and varied selection of sandwiches, buns, sliders, cakes and pastries, all delicious. Fast and friendly service.
I recommend taking away and sitting in the Jubilee park or near the Thames.
E. H.
We were staying at the Premier Inn and unfortunately they were fully booked for breakfast so we decided to pop over the road to Gail's. They had tables inside and out but we ordered to takeaway. For offerings, they had a large selection of beautiful looking buns and pastries as well as a small breakfast menu. We ordered a coffee and hot choc which were very nice, plus a few different buns for later. The star of the show for me though was the ham and cheese croissant. That was delicious, and had plenty of ham. The only thing going against Gail's was the price. Had it been a little cheaper we'd have had breakfast there every day.

Another Gail’s another delicious moment. Fabulous coffee and pastries. Excellent service by Alejandro. Thanks for his kindness and smiley service.

Convenient location near the London Eye. Love their coffee, pastry, and sandwiches!
S. W.
The best soya flat white I’ve ever had! And I’ve had a few!
P. R.
Every time I had something differently from here it is nice & decent which never disappointed me but little pricey still okay as it’s tourist spot .
A. F.
I stopped for a coffee and a sandwich, very nice place and very good bakery products. I have tried the brioche bun sandwich, it was excellent. Cappuccino was decent, the coffee is good, but the tendency is to overheat the milk, so after the milk lose its flavour. This is my opinion, doesn't change the fact that the place deserve 5 star.
D. C.
Convenient location near the London Eye. Love their coffee, pastry, and sandwiches!
V. K.
This shop changed my mind about Gail's, nice, properly cooked food and fab staff. Patricia seems to be a sunshine of the place, sparkling joy to colleagues and guests. What a catch for a company
Y.
It’s so nice place. I ate a scone, double esppresso. Scone is the best in london. I want yo go again.
D. S.
First visit to a Gail's and really impressed with the range and quality of the food. Eat in or take away with vegetarian and vegan options too
B. B.
Love this place, but not the best for walking in take away orders... Waiting times are long, I waited more than 20 minutes for a take away "toastie", and the shop was average busy.
I felt like there was nowhere to really stand, like I was in the way while waiting for my order.
In general the food is good, and always had good service in the past, my only gripe is the one mentioned above. Due to this I will second guess ordering from here in the future and go elsewhere unless I know I have loads of time to waste.
J. F.
Very nice coffee, melt in the mouth pastries!
A.
I had great scone and soup in the morning. It was the best scone with clotted cream in London.
A. R.
Excellent coffee and great cakes, especially the Soho buns! Plenty of seating in and out and friendly staff make for a great stop.
A.
Lovely location and the baked eggs were delicious
C. L.
High quality bakery at Southbank, always a good place to catch a breath while taking friends and family visiting London.
S. R.
Best breakfast place. So good. Go here. Great service.
B. Y.
Baked items were lovely and tasty but very pricey (£3+ to eat in with a croissant!) and staff are quite mardy. Long wait for hot drinks.
J. N.
Wonderful selection of breakfast options the cafe latte was great.
C. B.
Divine, middle Eastern influence on modern cuisine.

For a detailed review check out our Instagram page: Fat_French_Fry. Bigfan of Gail's. Especially their widely sought after foccacia loaf. Also, a must try is their flour less chocolate cake which is unbelievably moist and gooey and the salted caramel brownie stick. Docking off a star since the service for hot lunch boxes is quite slow!
Hope this helps, cheers!
L. B.
Cool place, lots of variety and delicious looking treats.
T. K.
Very kind
Lots of bread
Nice atmosphere
A stone away from London eye
D. M.
Great find, a short walk from Waterloo station. I'll use this more often when coming into London for some fresh coffee and a pastry.
W. T.
Simply in love with this bakery! Best freshest pastries, coffee and food. Everyone must try or find nearest one.
b.
Great bakery, quiet expensive in my opinion but well worth it.
E. P. L.
An excellent independent (small chain) coffee shop. Delicious food, helpful and welcoming service, modern and warm atmosphere. Would definitely recommend. I had the Brioche French Toast with Maple Bacon.
Unfortunately our food did take a little while to arrive (40 mins) but the manager very kindly offered us all a free set of drinks and explained that they were training up a new staff member in the kitchen.
C.
Gail's has a high standard at every branch I've visited; this one's no exception. Their pastries always taste fresh and everyone who tags along with me loves their food. The coffee is pretty good here too.
The only issue I encountered here was the somewhat disordered queueing/ordering system. We joined the queue, although the people in front of us were still debating what to get; a member of staff asked if we were ready, we said yes, but then they went to take two other people's orders behind us first, then served the people who'd been in front of us.
We weren't in a rush so no big deal, but we waited ten minutes to order a couple pastries and a coffee; then, we waited a further ten minutes before we got our coffee. I'm not sure if our order was temporarily forgotten because we were taking away, but again the people after us received their cups before we got ours.
Still, I'd go back; their bread is worth buying, and all their pastries taste great. Just... maybe don't go if you're in a hurry. It's in a great location though, nearby a park and the Thames!
E. t.
Love it.
Gail is a very big chain and some sites have completely lost it’s welcoming atmosphere and vibe but this is not one of them.
Friendly, clean, quick (whilst not cutting corners in the coffee preparation) and welcoming. Exactly what I love about Gail’s and lovely to see a branch still living up to what made them great.
Downside? Well it’s a bit difficult to find but you will be glad if you come across it.
H. R.
Super friendly staff and delicious treats! The staff here are amazig; patient, kind and helpful! Nice new location in a much needed area that lacks nice cafes. However it is always HOT and stuffy in here! Please fix the air conditioning so that one can sit and enjoy their purchase instead of having to have it take away.
Α. Χ.
First time there and i really enjoy a lot my coffee.Nice and friendly service.
l. b.
Gail’s is not an independent cafe, as described by another reviewer but a small chain with bakeries in several locations in London. The food was great - I’ve never had bad food at a Gail’s and this was no exception - fresh, high quality ingredients, well prepared. But the service was terrible. The person who took my order was really struggling with her ability to understand/ communicate in fairly simple English, and my scrambled eggs and bacon took 35min to arrive, only appearing after I went back to the service area to chase it down. Staff were all well meaning but management of staff and systems seems poor.
P. V.
Excellent! Large range of cakes, savoury food and drinks. Bread and cakes made on the premises, lovrly helpful staff. Delicious.
E. M. E.
Clean, nice, tasty food and friendly staff. If it looks great, it probably is great. And it was. Breakfast before our turn around at the London Eye. Lots of people, but no que. If it's a sunny day, you can have your food outside. Good coffee.
A. z.
We got caught in the rain and ran in here but I’m so glad we did! Like wow. They had what was truly the best scone I’ve had in my life. It had fresh apricots in it and I wish I lived near here so I could eat here more often.
A. Y.
The food doesnt taste that amazing for the price. The customer service is also not that great but the cafe is nice and pretty.
A. J.
I visit Gail's quite regularly, usually my local in Dulwich, because I love the food. Southbank is standout in my experience, due to the staff. They are friendly, patient and very helpful. Due to the location it is very busy, so expect to wait for somewhere to sit.
E. M.
Medium sized store with seating area close by the London Eye
N. L.
Nice place for breakfast. Range of bakery treats baked onsite. Range of tea, coffee and juices. Busy spot but staff were always friendly and helpful.
Though the corporate managers of the place (knew that by them talking loudly about internal issues) need to sort their attitude to staff though - barking orders for more tea and coffee from their table was so rude and unprofessional.
G. V.
Wonderful food and drink a lovely staff 👍🏽
a.
Bought a croissant and a oat milk English breakfast tea. Price was a little off so I asked if they charged for the oat milk in the tea. They said yes so I then asked if that is the same difference they charge for a latte and they said yes also. So I’ve basically paid the same difference for oat milk for 90% less oat milk as a latte as way more. Where is the logic in that.
D. G. I.
Outstanding customer services!
E. I.
I love Gail's! Just a nice range of tasty treats.
P. G.
An amazing selection of baked goods including one of the most delicious sausage rolls I've ever eaten. This ain't no Greggs though. The food is pretty fancy and prices to match. I bought the sausage, egg and Swiss cheese breakfast bun (delicious - I highly recommend) and a large mocha for £10 takeout. They do sit down breakfasts which looked amazing, vegan meals as standard, salads and hot bakes too. Oat and soya milk alternatives. And it's right by the London eye and about a 5 min walk from Waterloo.
D. P.
Great coffee and hot chocolate. Pistachio and rasp bun was fabulous
L. F.
Superb tastes, freshly baked bread, great for breakfast, brunch, lunch or simply a fast bite during the day. Fantastic service, very kind staff. It can get veeery crowded but it is an overall very fine experience.
N. M.
My husband & I had a delicious breakfast. The staff was
friendly & very helpful. I wish we had one closer to home.
S. S.
Far too overpriced for the taste
Didn’t have cakes available at this store
Great location to sit with friends for a coffee
A. M.
This place is the same as any other Gail's so it's fine. But I write this as usual sat outside at 7.50am on a Sunday, music blaring from inside but a sign blocking the open door as they are not ready to open. Sounds like they're having a gay old time in there though. If you ain't gonna open til later, say so? Mind you, sounds like they've come straight from Ministry of Sound so maybe taking longer than usual to get organised
M. C.
Been a few times here as location is good between London Eye and Waterloo station. Always great service, very friendly and customer focused. Difficult to chose which cake is better, all amazing.
T. C.
Disappointed that the coffee was burnt. Selection to eat is very good and there is outdoor seating. Not cheap which is understandable but suspect higher cost does not reflect in staff wages as they seem glum
C. T.
It was great enjoyed the day with friends together.
H. M.
Gail's bakery is so tasty. The bread, the pastry's. By far better than any other bakery that I've tried in London. Even in Germany, where I'm from, this would be an outstanding bakery.
M. M.
Very welcoming, friendly staff and efficient service. Especially Katty was great and very nice. Great food and location. Definitely becoming our fav Gail’s and comings back soon!
Z.
We stopped in a hotel across the road and popped here for lunch. Beautiful bakery 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
G. S.
Highly recommend for your early morning fix of coffee and pastries. Wide selection of food and drinks and staff friendly. What not to like!
M. K.
Decent, pretty place on the Southbank two blocks from the London Eye for good coffee and a selection of pastries, plus breakfast and lunch dishes. Still, my scone was more like a muffin, knocking down the score.
J. A.
Lovely bread. Good service
H. C.
Lovely home made choc chunk cookies which were huge but very expensive! Saw lots of yummy products but put off by the flies in the cabinet :(
A. A.
One of the best chai lattes I've had, vest sausage rolls in town and such tasty spinach and feta rolls - delicious!
P. L.
Great service, very friendly and customer focused. Food fantastic, especially avocado on toast. Best filter coffee I've tasted.
a. d.
Gail's bakery is amazing. The only problem is what to choose! This can only be solved by going back again and again. Super food and something nice for everyone.
D.
Best sausage roll I've ever had in the UK. Great coffee and kind staff.
R. D.
Lovely and cosy cafe. Would have given it 5 stars but there was a constant static buzz/noise (perhaps some appliance) that gets to you after about 10 mins. The food was delicious.
R. P.
I went there on Tuesday just as they were closing. A gentleman behind the counter (sorry I don't know his name) showed kindness and generosity which made my day. The foods amazing too.
M. H.
Stopped for a Breakfast today and the staff and food were excellent, highly recommended! Super Avocado on toast Coffee to die for !

S. P.
Such an amazing selection of treats. Such a pleasant experience visiting Gails. Staff are helpful and friendly
N. I.
A nice space near the station. Gail's being Gail's, so don't expect fast service. Tasty bread as always though.
A. E.
Freindly staff, great selection of pastries, and the best hot chocolate I can remember - so rich it was almost buttery.
T. K.
I love the food, but during lunchtime it's VERY noisy. Would probably be better to play instrumental music during lunchtime.
m. b.
I asked several questions about food and prices , staff explained very well which I was looking for. I appreciate your service and excellent food , thank you

Great coffee & tasty cakes in Gail’s standard.
But overly priced, staffs seem just really busy that dont care about the customers. All they want is serving customers as quickly as possible and move on to the next. Very noisy place.

(Translated) A wonderful bakery and this branch is the best branch in London.. The baked goods they have are fresh you can see while they are baking it.. Almond croissants, cinnamon rolls and raspberry muffins are all delicious..
The coffee is fine.
The internal sessions are crowded, but quickly end up and get a place..
The outside sessions are nice in front of London, which place is once and wide.
The service is excellent and they treat them well..

(Translated) One of the few bakers in the area. I had a raisin slug that was good, but not outstanding. A little more sugar would have been better. Raisins were okay in the crowd. Next time I test the bread made from sourdough. 🤗 I'm curious.

🤗 Bin gespannt.
