Reviews of Happy Sky Japanese Bakery

We love ❤️ Japanese bakery!!! They always busy and tasty absolutely good. We had to buy lots of different flavours we could not chose only one! Specially try awarding bean cheese bread! Simple but tasty 😋 we will be back! Near this store street car 🚘 parking free Sat/Sun

Absolutely love this little Japanese bakery on Askew Rd - breads and pastries are made fresh every day, and you can see them taking it out of the oven and putting it out on the display. Their coffee is delicious too - they have their own blend, and you're also able to buy the beans here. Must try their Japanese toast!

So this strawberry sandwich thing cost me £4.5. I mean.. yes it’s Japanese and exotic and cute, whatever, but it’s too pricey. Also I overheard that the reason why they only open for two days a week is that they are preparing the baked goods on other days. I don’t know, maybe try focus on less items and open more so you can actually sell the stuff, and maybe lower the price?

Love this small little bakery. The bun taste good. The japanese toast are delightful. Red bean bun is my favourite.
They also serve coffee, their own blend. Its a small bakery dine in space is limited.
Sometimes some buns are gone fast!

Fantastic, sumptuous Japanese bakery. We had the matcha bun which was amazing, the Yuzu doughnut which was citrusy and light, the an pan which is all red bean and lovely, the katsu sando roll, which was yum and the chestnut and adzuki roll which was super awesome. The karaage chicken with egg is also worth sampling and if you like your bread, their Tokyo milk loaf is delicious. Recommend this bakery highly.

UPDATE:
Just got to try new exciting stuff! I've always loved the hot dog buns and now there's burger buns too! They are the fluffiest thing you can imagine. There's also a new charcoal bread for the katsu chicken sandwich, great for detox I was told, and with a fun texture that goes great with the breaded chicken and lettuce. Will definitely buy again!

It's my weekly date with tasty, every Friday I stop here, happily wait the queue and pick at least one savoury, one sweet.
My favourite savouries are the katsu chicken sandwich, katsu curry chicken bun, chicken teriyaki pan and the chicken karaage pan.
I could not choose from the sweets but I always get the matcha mochi custard bun if it's available. Always.
And all the people working here are lovely. You must try it at least once! You'll repeat, for sure.

It's nice to have diversity and exotic flavours one can't find in typical local offerings. But for the price, I don't think Happy Sky lived up to the expectation.
I bought a small assortment of both sweet and savoury buns, 25 quid worth altogether. While flavours were lovely, the brioche type base breads were rather dry and tough than fluffy and rich. The cinnamon roll with azuki bean paste was especially disappointing as that particular batch must have been over-baked and the crust was tough as leather.
I traveled 20 min on bus looking to try them out, but I don't think I would repeat it.

How haven't I known about this place till now is beyond me!
Of course on my first visit i had to refrain from buying half the shop
-Chicken katsu bun (it's a doughnut 🤤)
-Yuzu custard doughnut
-Matcha custard doughnut
-Matcha salted caramel scone... just incredible and warm fresh out the oven 😍
Wow wow will definitely be back. The store is only open a couple days and limited timings I suspect this is why the prices are a little higher than a regular bakery -shame really, I'd buy here multiple times if they were open more but I get the whole niche opening vibe.
The cinnamon buns seemed a popular choice too -am looking forward to going back next week for more -especially for the savouries!

Our first experience and we weren’t disappointed. The doughnuts (chocolate and we also tried the matcha one) were light and fluffy with a light dusting of sugar, so not too sweet or sticky.
The breakfast items are delicious, we can’t choose between them, so I suggest trying them all and then try to choose a favourite.
We will be back, superb!

Just like in Japan. The bread is fluffy and just the right amount of spring. Perfect texture! The ham and cheese was perfect. We traveled access London to visit. The staff were so nice and kind. They offered to heat up there treats!
Y. C.
The savory bread recall my memory in Japan, proper soft, good texture bread
P. N.
Hidden Gem! Authentic Japanese bread and pastry! We went there almost every week to buy our favourite milk loaf bread and the mocha An-Pan!

Lots and lots of great tasting breads to choose from whether savoury or sweets. Staff are very helpful with bread info so you know exactly what you are buying and the taste to expect.

Yummm. Recommended for sure. Check opening hours and always go early... It's quite popular.
Z. D.
Wonderful bakery. Love the cinnamon rolls and great breads.
Z.
Food I would give 3 stars. Slightly mediocre, and on the pricey side. But the atmosphere kind of throws you back into the memories of Japan.
B. J.
Absolutely brilliant. The yuzu custard tarts are fantastic
K. W.
Very popular local bakery worth every second of the queue. Specialists in Japanese breads and cakes they also have European treats with Japanese flavours. Good selection of both sweet and savoury, and all of it's top notch.
H. M.
Fantastic Japanese bakery with delicious sandos, pastries and breads. Well worth the wait!
T. H. H.
Toast is nice and you should try the red bean bun. 😋

I just wished products were fresh.
I have visited 3 times, 3 weekends in a row before writting a review, to be sure I was not judging based on a single experience.
This bakery has a lot of potential, as I quite like their style. Unfortunately, the sourdough bread and tokyo bread were dry.
The Doughnuts have a nice dough, but the fillings (matcha, custard and oreo) are not that great, a bit disappointing.
The Yuzu Tarts are not that great either, the filling is not creamy and smooth, a bit on a lumpy and tasteless side.
The Cinnamon Loaf slices were also very hard and dry, not even slightly moist, which was a pity, as they looked so delicious.
The prices would be fine if these products were fresher and tastier, but sadly they were not.
I just wished I had a different experience, because I truly believe other people were just fortunate to find fresher products at different times.
P. J.
Tasty Japanese bakery that deserves all the attention! Come grab yours and you will be going back for more.
C. F.
Awesome bakery, just wish they were open all week! Come around noon for the teriaki chicken bun, it will change your life. Loaves a bit like brioche, delicious sweet and soft. They usually sell out so don't delay! 🤤💕🍞🍡
R. S.
If Google allowed me the chance to, I'd rate this place 6/5. It's awesome. It's only open Friday and Saturday at the moment, which makes it all the more special. Well worth a trip from wherever you are in London to grab some food from this West London gem.
M.
Nice little bakery. Can taste the good ingredients in their products. A little bit expensive.
J.
The sausage bun and cinnamon iced bread was delicious. The chocolate volcano and matcha custard doughnut was tasteless. The katsu curry bun had a jelly curry filling, weird texture. Nice bakery, but I just wished they used more expensive ingredients especially when the buns are more expensive than other Japanese bakeries in the area.
R. J.
Nice new bakery for home-made quality Japanese breads (bread is called 'pan' in Japanese, from French, hence...) my favourite was their melon-pan. An-pan was also good.
R. C.
Lovely staff and truly Japanese bakes. The an-pan was light and fluffy and definitely worth getting
X. C.
The matcha doughnut is amazing! I just couldn’t forget about it. The custard inside has a jelly-like texture. Great for those who do not like their desserts to be overly sweetened

I love love this bakery. It has little cute hand crafted food pieces and has this homely ambiance to it. It's a very petite eatery just on the corner of the street. I particularly love the Baker's choice especially when I'm on a budget. 10/10 highly recommended.
W. L.
Love the variation of bread. Freshly baked and yummy.
A. A.
Delicious food...must grab some for a picnic in the nearby parks. Kindest and friendliest staff ever!
K. H.
So enamoured when I got here ended up spending over 45 quid on cakes and goodies on one of the hottest days of the year. The Shiba in the queue in front of me looked just as excited as I was
R.
Authentic Japanese bakery with a good selection of bread and kind and friendly staff. The bread is high quality and tastes gorgeous. Genuinely the best Japanese-style bread I've found in London. I travelled a long way to get here but it was well worth it.
A. L.
I was curious to see how well this Japanese bakery fared but was left feeling more than a little disappointed. The goods on offer are overpriced for what they are, not that interesting or well-baked. The typical Shokupan is adequate, but I've had better in Japan, so I don't think I'll be driving to Acton for a slice of home. The shop is also a bit on the untidy-side.
F. B.
Me and my partner love Japanese bread and since when we came back from Japan, we were never able to find a proper Japanese Bakery in London.....until we went to Happy Sky. While tasting their filled breads we were instantly taken back to Japan and their amazing fluffy texture breads. Must try the Chicken Teriyaki pan... Absolutely to die for!
D. Y.
Travelled about an hour to visit this very charming bakery for the first time! I’ve got their delicious Mochi Matcha Bun & Japanese Breakfast Tea. Amazing bakes, friendly staff and an overall great experience! Definitely will come back to try their other yummy bakes 😄👍🏽
A. A.
Big fan of the bakery. Has a lovely local following and visitors. Sometimes a long wait but can’t fault the super friendly staff.
E. C.
Best bakery I've been to in a long time. An amazing array of freshly-made treats and the staff are so welcoming! Some of the regulars travel a long way to come here, and I can see why. Definite hidden gem.
T. C.
Amazing food. Love the mix of regular favourites and weekend surprises to add to my brunch. Delicious!
K. T.
One of my favourite bakeries in London! The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing. You can smell how fresh everything is and their menu is a good range too .
I cannot recommend this place enough!
S. M.
Cute and slightly unusual Japanese bakery offering soft sweet and savoury baked buns with a variety of fillings baked fresh daily. Kind and attentive service. A few seats down the sliver of a room for those who need to stop for a bite.
W. B.
Amazing. Probably better than a number of Japanese bakeries I've thought good in Japan! Wow. Kare-pan... the best I've ever had. Not cheap, but worth it.
N. L.
Amazing variety of the yummiest Japanese treats! All their pastries are airy and fluffy and absolutely delicious!
j. e.
Don't be fooled by tiny size of this Japanese coffee shop. The milk bread and dedication to cook the bread and yakisoba sandwich is so huge. The best Japanese bakery in London. Also their chai lattes are to die for. Hurry before the queues forms here.
S. G.
this place is marvellous!! an autentic japanese patiserie. everything is fresh and well done. the ladies who work there are kind and helpful, I'm delighted to have the opportunity to have a japanese bakery close to my house, such a great experience.
M. E.
Good Japanese bakery selling novel and interesting Japanese bread based goods. It's s bit expensive compared to Te To Te, the main thing here are the novel creations that are unique to this bakery. It's worth perusing as a novelty.
J. B.
The Chocolate Volcanoes are almost "toooo" good, everything else I have tried was delicious and the staff are wonderful and lovely. Lucky us to have such a great bakery close to home.
C. T.
Love their bread!! Especially their savoury menu - tried most of them and they were all excellent but teriyaki chicken was absolutely divine. Can't wait to go back there again.
J.
I come here nearly one a week. A tad bit pricy but excellent quality bread, very friendly staff.
s. c.
Small place full of delicious japanese (and non) baked food as Pan An (so good), chicken karage sandwich and lot more.
S. B.
Cute little Japanese bakery selling nice savoury delights. I especially recommend small buns with salty butter inside. Heaven!
E. C.
By all means, if you happen to live in Askew or get yourself lost there for some reason, make the best of it and visit this hearty little bakery! The staff is lots of fun and the lunch breads scrumptious, plus it's one of the few places in London where the anko glutton can find anko filled bread!
R. M.
Just like the pastries/bakery good you would get in Japan. A bit expensive by comparison but perfect for anyone wanting an authentic Japanese bakery experience.
m. s.
Amazing bakery, both savoury and sweet products are excellent, highly recommended.
T. D.
Very happy I visited. The milk bread was Devine and the other treats are not to be missed. The staff were wonderful and patient while I gawked at everything.
N. A.
Fantastic and creative bakery. Many matcha based desserts and red bean as well. Also fantastic traditional western items as well. Well worth the visit.

G. P.
Amazing attention to detail. Loved some items, some were okay. Will be back.
C.
Sometimes it is good to have chatty staff but it just doesn’t help when there is a queue and makes customers all wait longer than needed
P. B.
Amazing - love coming here every weekend to get our breakfast buns..!!!
M. J.
Food's great. They take great pride in what they do, and the service is wonderful, polite, and you're treated more like an honoured guest rather than a paying customer.

This place is great! They are just open on Friday and Saturday, I personally have found the assortment of goods to be better on a Saturday. They have an eclectic range of sweet and savory pastries and a small selection of breads and roles. I can highly recommend the Yuzu (Lemon)Custard tarts and the Milk Loaf bread or Katsu Chicken Sandwiches. If you more culinary curiosity then you could try the An Pan with red bean paste or mochi filling. Just a warning that it’s addictive and you can’t stop coming back for more

Breads that are familiar to Japanese people are lined up in a row, and they are all delicious.
I am particular about bread, which can be said to be the basis of bread
I was impressed when I toasted it lightly and ate it.
The woman who seems to be the owner is also very friendly
Always talk with a smile
You can choose bread slowly without being impatient.
