Reviews of Pophams
K. D.
Probably one of the best bakeries I have been to. The croissant are as good as any I have had in France. They were the perfect combination of flaky and buttery. The ham and cheese was great. The star is definitely the maple bacon croissant that has really thick strips of streaky bacon inside but just the right amount of maple syrup. They made some great cortados too! I would definitely come back.
K. K.
I wanted to visit this place for a long time as i heard wonderful reviews, so my thoughts: soup and cheese/spring onion pastry was really good, but I give 4 stars instead of 5 just because my croissant was too dry for my liking. But in general, great and busy place, looks like locals live this place! I do recommend!
W.
Best pastries! The marmite and cheese, and bacon maple pastries are the best. Their seasonal and weekend sweet pastries are also amazing 👌always go early to avoid disappointment as they sell out quick

A friend evangelised the pastries at Pophams to no end, so we had no choice but to heed her advice and trudge to Islington to sample her two recommendations: the Bacon and Maple Swirl and the Ham and Cheese croissant.
There's no need to agonize over which to pick. The mandate is both. 'Til today, I refuse to pick a winner.
The Maple Bacon Swirl is a beauty: smoked streaky bacon is coiled neatly within a pastry snail shell, then brushed with a maple glaze. It's phenomenal: a triple threat on the palette of savoury, sweet, and smokey, carried by a croissant that is lamination perfection. One bite in and it was crystal clear that this would be a shoo-in contender for my croissant hall of fame. Pedestrian Parisian croissants have got nothing on this one.
The mark of a good viennoiserie is if the front of your shirt resembles that of a dandruff victims' post-bite. It's got to be shatter heaven, and you shouldn't be able to eat the croissant neatly. This rings even more true for Popham's Ham and Cheese croissant, which is topped with cheese that crusts up when baked, then cracks in protest when you push a knife through it. I'm not sure what baking voodoo was enlisted here, but unlike most Ham and Cheese croissants where the ham and cheese is an independent filling trapped by its croissant exterior, Popham's version someone manages to meld the inner fillings with the pastry itself.
If you've been on the hunt for the perfect Bacon Roll and Ham and Cheese croissant in London, I believe your work here is done.
P.S: We also tried the following bakes: Poached quince with custard, a Pain au chocolat, and a Brownie croissant (stuffed with actual brownie pieces no less). The lamination on the pain au chocolat was divine, with clear layers that resembled a book, but they paled greatly in comparison with the above two bakes.
It's testament to baking prowess, or just good ol' elbow grease: the kitchen starts the lamination process at a godly hour of 2AM. They deserve the title of the perfect croissant.

The coffee shop is nice and do a really good variety of pastries and different flavours. That said, every time I’ve ordered from them to take away, I’ve had items missing. Whilst I’d love to eat their pastries every day, the prices are pretty expensive for what they are too
D. T.
The indoor decoration and the stone utensils are beautiful. Their pastries are also very devious and very reasonably priced. We had the one with bacon and another one with some veggie inside, and we liked it both. Lovely coffee too. It's a quiet and comfortable coffee away from the busy Islington town.
K. B.
I’ve been dreaming of going here for months and I finally made it! And this place has definitely met my expectations! Nice, simple and bright interior, friendly stuff and divine baked goods! This bakery is a treasure tho it’s not cheap but it’s definitely worth it! Already dreaming of going to Pophams again😍
C. P.
Love this spot, beautiful in the sun with a few tables and the cute church and courtyard across the road. They have really mastered croissant dough and produce probably the best pain au chocolates in London. I love the specials.. just look how perfectly perfect this little drop of blood orange, Earl grey, custardy goodness looks!
B. J.
One of the best Pain au Chocolates I’ve had. Clearly freshly made and very nice to have the option of warming it up.
Go earlier to have all the menu available (only reason why it’s 4, not 5 stars - but will come back to find the last star).
Was quite busy but the queue was managed well and the service was very quick. With the quality of the offer, this is not easily done.
Well done guys, keep it up.
J. F.
Favorite place in the area!
Going there nearly everyday.
Everything is delicious and the people are so kind!
J. C.
Tho expensive, Pophams used to make the best pastries in Islington. Irrespective of price, it was luxurious n unctuous. Lately however, since the price increase and I would suspect cost cutting, it is no longer so. The Almond croissant is just like any other good croissant. The "marmite" is under baked or burnt, even. I would love to give it 5* but now, IMO is only worth 3*
S. A.
If you're near Islington, this is a must visit for breakfast. The pastries are absolutely delicious and the show-stopper for Pophams is the maple bacon pastry. They made an amazing fresh pasta too!!!
O. A.
Beat croissant pastries I’ve had! the maple-bacon croissant is a must. There’s not a trip to London in which I don’t visit Pophams. Every time me and my girlfriend are taking 4 different croissants as a breakfast. Their coffee is excellent as well.
M. “. K. A.
The cutest flat white ever!
The three toastee is my favorite, have had it many times.
J. E.
Pastries to die for and excellent coffee to compliment. Minimal, scandi, modern interior with indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly service.
A careful selection of delicious pastries made it very hard to choose. The maple bacon danish was a close favourite over the lemon curd and poppyseed croissant. Will be back to try the rest of the options as soon as possible!
N.
Wonderful little neighborhood bakery in Barnsbury/Islington. The coffee and pastries here are absolutely delicious. Everything is fresh and baked daily. The place is always packed, but the service is friendly and fast. Must try the bacon and maple snail and the almond croissant. There's some seating indoors and outdoors, and the place is family-friendly.
K. H.
This was my third time to buy an almond croissant from Pophams and I have decided not to buy from them anymore. 2 out of 3 times of my purchase I could tell my croissant was from the day before and this time it was burnt. How burnt? It was bitter! I could accept it for a £2 croissant maybe, but not for one that costs £3.9. I also ordered a soya latte which was not warm. Time to move on......
G. H.
Pophams does just a few things, but it does them really, really well. We had the PBJ (amazing), the ham and cheese croissant (delicious) and took home the rosemary bread which was just brilliant. The coffee is great, the pastries are another level. Enjoy!
K. L.
Their pastries are so good! I am making it my mission to try them all.
So far from what I have had, my favourite is the triple chocolate closely followed by the passionfruit & honeycomb.
J. N.
My friend who lives here in London recommended Pophams and said it had the best pastries in London. Obviously, I had to try it for myself. I was not disappointed. The space is quaint and cozy and the staff is really friendly. I got the bacon and maple croissant and it was fantastic. It came out hot but not too hot and there is something about the crunchy soft texture that makes you want the bites to never end. Please bring Pophams to San Francisco!
A. R.
Amazing little bakery! Don't be put off by the long queue. That's the price you pay for 'deliciousness'.
Everything we bought was perfect: flaky pain au chocolat, delicious rhubarb and custard pastry, amazing bacon maple rolls and tasty tiramisu cruffins. The coffee was great too (Ozone roasters I think)
R. D.
We stumbled across this hidden gem when flat hunting earlier today. Beautiful little cafe in the heart of the residential side of Angel. Nice calm vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. The pastries are amazing and so is the coffee. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend and come back soon myself.
K. D.
I made the trip here on a Saturday lunchtime with a mate, it was busy but managed to order and a seat and pretty quickly. I went for the Pecan pie & clementine cruffin with an Earl Grey tea. Orders were turned around quickly and the staff were nice and friendly, there was a very chilled vibe about the place. The cruffin as delicious, the right amount of flakeness without being dry and pecan pie filling was very tasty!
M. L.
Friendly staff. Amazing service. Breads and pastries are so yummy. We like the salty rosemary croissant and sour dough. Try it and you won’t be disappointed. They also serve coffees and there’s a nice outside seating to chill out while you enjoy your coffee and pastries
C. P.
Wonderfully flakey pastries chocolate orange that knocks the socks of a doughnut croissant hybrid I know, yum! Almond croissant that brights up any dull Saturday and great tasting coffee what more could you want... oh I know a bacon and maple swirl!
D. T.
A brilliant little bakery in a side street that serves good coffee.
They specialise in variations of puff pastry creations, both sweet and savoury.
The bacon and maple scroll is a must!
If you go on a weekend, they also have specials.
H. K.
The best pastries I’ve ever had. Worth the trip out of the center. Everything was delicious but the maple bacon was my favorite.
A. B.
Really nice place to have a nice coffee and plenty of different pastries (Sweet savoury). Staff are nice and friendly. Clean, organised place and excellent service. Very local and popular. We have tried Americano, hot chocolate which was rich, almond croissant (little bit hard), pana chocolate (Massive)and marmite schlossberger spring onion.
Plenty of outdoor tables and cosy indoor seats.
I recommend this place.
I. L.
This small bakery in this lovely neighbourhood in Islington is doing wonders. Try the maple and bacon or the peanut butter jelly pastry and you’ll get my point. They’re all so soft and crispy at the same time, just as they should be! Go early as they can sell out fast during the weekend. Their coffee is very good too! Luckily for them and unluckily for us they’ve gained so much popularity that the queues can be pretty long pretty much all day on weekends.
N. P.
Came here on a Sunday. There was a queue to be served and all tables were taken. All the pastries looked to perfection. We went for the weekend special - hazelnut parline and the good old classic, pain au chocolat. Both had plenty of layers with lots of crunch, both very tasty and not too sweet.
There were plenty other ones we wanted to try. For sure we will be back.
Z. C.
Amazing coffee place just behind my place. The coffees are really good and the pastries are some of the best I've ever had! I've tried the new flavor, clementine pecan, it's was divine.
S. T.
The best croissant in London, in my humble opinion. The crispiness of the croissants is out of this world and the selection of filling here is also exciting. My favourite here was the maple bacon croissant. Coffee was good too and parking was plenty when we were here.
M. H.
Loved the bacon and maple scroll, nice outdoor space. Service was quick
H. S.
Pophams is a staple. You only have to see the all weather queues to know it. They have been one of two decent coffee shops in the area for some time and have reaped the benefits. When I was housing hunting last may, they were a contributing factor to my decision to move to Islington and I’m very happy about it.
However, a new kid has quite literally popped up on the block; Jolene, and the competition for the best coffee shop in Islington has jumped up a notch. At the minute, I have to say that there is only one thing that lets Pophams down and that is their pastries. They are IG perfection for sure but compared to jolene’s, they’re often over cooked and over dry, especially their Pan Aux Chocolate. If they can bring these up a notch, my decision to turn left or right out of my house in the morning would be that much harder.
M. H.
Always a looooonnng queue that you can find from miles away - but definitely worth the wait! I cannot pass by pophams without getting myself a good maple bacon croissant, that sweetness and savory taste always gets me on the first bite ❤️
P. H.
One of the tastiest coffee / pastry combos in London if you can get your hands on a rhubarb and custard danish.
Appropriately hipster crockery, too. Oh and the staff are great.
E. C.
The pastries they serve here should be illegal. I have never dropped plans because they announce a new custard based delight on social media. For that alone, I commend them.
C. Y.
Rustic eatware, delicious coffee and amazing baked goods. Will definitely go back! They do get busy and things get sold out so might take a few times to try everything.
J. E.
Perfect croissants. Lovely owner and the best hot chocolate using a local bean to bar maker. Must go back to try the bread.
T. K.
This place is average. Tried both sweet and savory items and their coffee. Not really worth the waiting time nor the high prices. There are better bakery options in Angel.
R. B. (. .. s.
Coming from someone who actively seeks out croissants, these are the best that London has to offer! Wonderful, flakey, and just the right amount of buttery, these pastries are absolute delight in baked form. Atmosphere is lovely and the staff are incredibly friendly - plus delicious coffee to boot! Try it out during the week for a serene atmosphere or come on the weekends for some of their specialty items - come early though or you might miss it... these items fly out the doors!
T. L.
Tiny and extremely busy place with ever best puff pastry! Located in a calm neighborhood, it always has a queue definitely worth to wait. Come before 11am to enjoy all the assortment otherwise you gonna miss the tastiest pieces.
O. C.
Excellent little bakery, friendly staff and amazing food! Will be back to have more! The maple and bacon pastry was the most delicious I've ever tasted.
H. A.
We travel long distances to come here. Worth every moment of the way. You haven't eaten your best pastry if you haven't been here.
O. L. M.
Excellent bread and pastry but come early on the weekends!
Edit 20/10/2020: always excellent, additional outdoor seating for a covid19-proof coffee or lunch break with friends.
A. A.
It’s the best bakery & coffee I’ve tried in London. It’s a small shop run by lovely people and they served very original bakes, breads and brunch and great prices. Must go if you are around Angel.
E. L.
Mind-blowing pastry. Maple bacon roll, dark chocolate orange pastry, and lemon Poppy seed. Excellent coffee too, I'll be back!
G.
I like their savoury bacon danish! Always busy there among local or maybe also tourist once normal back, they also have weekly (?) special pastries
G. G.
Ordered a set for my colleagues and we all loved it. The most superior hand laminated dough we’ve ever tasted!
Lucy, whom I’ve communicated with via email was a clear communicator and easy to work with which made placing our order a breeze. They arrange for delivery as well so if your interested in trying their pastries but can’t make it to their physical location that’s an option for large orders :)
Look forward to being back.
A. A.
Pophams.. My fave go to breakfast place.. Coffee is rich in flavour and the Marmite pastries with a leek are just the best.
T. J.
Been quite a few times and they keep steady quality - everything we had was great. Don’t limit yourself just by the maple bacon croissant!
H.
Amazing coffee, lovely staff & outdoor seating. The pastry is a bit disappointing, quite average.
H. S.
I like this cosy and so well-designed coffee shop a lot. Really good atmosphere and friendly staff. Coffee tastes super good, neither to strong or too acid.
They have many different pastries and I tried their soup with bread once : suoer tasty homemade soup.
Everything about this place is lovely
H. T.
The best pastries in Islington. The egg mayo sandwich at lunch (when available) is also a must.
N. B.
This is a great place and I would recommend both their bread (the rosemary and sea salt one is becoming my favourite) and their pastries (the lemon curd filled croissant that is available on weekends is heavenly). The only reason I am only giving 4 stars is that a few times they had run out of bread at 10am on a weekend which feels very early and led to a lot of disappointment!
C. W.
Amazing bakery, delicious pastries and great coffee. Gets very busy!
陳.
Great bacon and maple roll and nice flat white. Might assume a long queue but definitely worth it!
A. M.
The oat flat white was bitter and more a cappuccino super frothy. The baked products are good quality.
L. F.
Definitely up to expectations. Finally a truly good coffee and the cheese toast was yummy!
É. L.
Cute location, delicious pastries with a variety of flavours you don’t get everywhere. Worth the queue.
B. H.
The *best* coffee I’ve had in ages, pastries are awesome, super friendly staff — really cute place 😻
N. T.
During Lockdown, It feels like we have done a local tour of all the places to get sourdough. After having tried a lot, I can definitely say this is the best. They use a white (70%) and brown (30%) mix which is just perfect. The previous favourite was little bread peddler but can undoubtedly say this is THE best. It does come at a cost of £7 per large loaf which is a hefty price compared to others, but is completely worth it. They also serve a nice Ozone coffee.
O. H.
Lovely staff, nice outdoor space, beautiful dishes. Coffee is great and the pastries are pure corruption 🤌
H. P.
A real gem. Beautiful flaky and fresh pastries, fantastic flavours especially the peach and ginger custard one! The place is small and buzzing with people.
D. V.
4 out of 5 times they cook quite good coffee in the morning.
Pastries are amazing.
In the evening, they serve wine and snacks.
D. H.
Pastries were above average, coffee was meh... it's a very Islington sort of place.
T. F. F.
I’m very sad to say that but unfortunately the almond croissant is overrated! I guess I expected much more from Popham but i was left disappointed. It was a very ordinary almond croissant, not flaky at all! And I didn’t like the almond paste.
E. P.
A delicious little bakery tucked away on the back streets of Islington. Beautifully flaky pastries with real yummy flavours. We went for the lime and blueberry and hazelnut praline, definitely go for the latter!!
A. A.
The maple and bacon Danish was unreal. Staff were very friendly as well. Definitely going back
I. P.
A perfect cappuccino. Only pastries served for breakfast, but the one I had with a slice of bacon in it was so tasty!
S. N.
Great little bakery, delicious pastries, good coffee, menu changes pretty frequently - their instagram account is worth checking out.
G. B.
Walking Lost around the area and popped into ask for directions , started raining so perched up and had a bacon and maple pastry ..... WOW. Must for all you pastry lovers and for those who arnt but are willing to be converted , looking forward to my next visit and sampling the white chocolate, pistachio and mint croissant ......
M. P.
Good. Maybe if you're in the area might be worth a visit. The maple bacon roll was good. Carrot/corn soup was meh.
P. C.
Delicious vegan oat milk hot chocolate and crunchy pastries. Scarse seating but friendly service.
N. C.
Original, delicious pastries. Marmite and cheese, bacon and maple. Get both.
G. B.
Pophams seems to be thriving in lockdown, which is really good to see. A great stop to grab a hot drink and pastry before a walk along the canal. Not the cheapest, but the food can’t be faulted. The popularity does lead to a bit of a wait at the weekends, and a couple of times we’ve received the wrong food order, but easy to forgive with a small team trying to serve hundreds of people.
a. r.
Nice bakery but slightly overpriced than usual. The coffee and other items were nice but if you are back from France people avoid the baguette ;)
The staff is also very friendly so I gave one bonus star because of them !
W. K.
Came all the way here, tempted by amazing reviews. Greeted by friendly members, who served swiftly. Buttery, flaky, soft centres and fresh flavours. Well worth it!
J. S.
Brilliant tasting of all bread, coffee. Very friendly staffs. Chill mood music.
C. M.
Feel lucky to have Pophams bakery in my neighbourhood. bacon and maple croissant with our morning coffees. Recently have been trying their different pastas and sauces to cook at home. They are often running out of items so get their early.
d. p.
Thought I’d finally check this place out to see what the hype was all about, was excited to try the marvellous looking pain au chocolat id seen on Instagram. Joined the one mile queue, that seemed to keep on growing but it was moving fairly quick. I ordered a double espresso, long black, marmite schlossberger and the pain au choc. Marmite schlossberger was a fantastic idea, haven’t had anything with marmite from a cafe in a long time also knowing they use cheese from jumi I knew it you would be pretty epic. The espresso was perfectly balanced and delicious (ozone blend), pain au chocolat however was incredibly stale, tasted very doughy, the chocolate inside was nothing special. Maybe I came on a bad day or just had higher expectations
N. F.
Incredible innovative pastries. Great coffee. Great cups! Friendly staff. Loved it.
B. B.
Tiny little place, but boy their croissants are good!
T. C.
New to the area, Pophams serves fantastic pastries along with great coffee. The space is clean and inviting and the staff is warm and friendly, a great addition to the neighbourhood and for anyone traveling on Essex road or New North Road.
F. S.
Delicious pastries and hot chocolate. The cheese toasties looked amazing, I'll definitely be back to try one!
N. B. T.
My favourite bakery in Islington. Pastry is to die for and good coffee and teas.
P. M.
Amazing bakery with a small but incredible menu. Crazy expensive at around £4 a pastry but you definitely get what you pay for.
Tiny place with limited seats, with was further exacerbated by 3 people using it as their office, oblivious to us wanting to sit down.
They have opened another, much larger store in Hackney which has a much larger menu, with pasta and picnic boxes
G. K.
Best pastries in London!!!! But the service could be slightly improved.
A.
Food was really good - tried the romesco and leek toastie and pain au chocolat. Both 10/10 and very generous size. Also had iced oat latte
which was average - the oat milk they use has a weird flavour .
R. C.
Amazing staff! Helpful and kind. Out of this world pastries. Just phenomenal. Had both the PBJ danish and the rhubarb and cardamom danish. Both unbelievably good. Perfectly baked, flaky, gorgeous pastry.
E. S.
I might be alone in thinking this place is very overrated. The coffee is good and the staff are pleasant, but the pastries are not for me. We have tried most of them (my boyfriend is a fan) but I find the flavours too much; too sickly sweet or too bitter, and the pastry without exception has been burnt. I love a good croissant, but I don’t want to wait 30-40mins and £3-4 is more than you need to pay, even in London.
J. J.
If you go early or during the week you can skip the queues! Really great pastries and coffee. I do wish the marmite pastry was more marmitey...but I'm a superfan 🤷♀️
E. D.
Spectacular pastries and scrumptious toasties. Superb attention to detail. Rich, decadent coffee. Simply divine.
S. K.
Amazing coffee and the pastry with marmite was define. Staff is equally amazing ✨
i. h.
Such a nice place with lovely food especially croissants and great coffee!
L. d. M.
Great coffee in a relatively quiet part of Islington with large tables outside.
C. A.
Very good food, but insane wait. 15 minutes for takeaway food is crazy
F. A.
If you like pastry, you need to visit this bakery. Top notch!
H. R.
Latte & a bacon and maple syrup pastry. I ate it outside on the wall under the Yew tree.
The dude came out and took my order and a covid masked young woman brought it all out to me. Good service. You can't fake the hussle of believing in what you're selling.
Smooth latte (at least one OCD on staff regularly scrubs that coffee machine).
Bacon & maple syrup pastry crumbles rather, which would appear to be part of the fun. However, the combination works.
D. L. M.
Lovely bakery, busy and we'll deserved. Everything is spot on, plenty of skill on display. If you're gonna eat pastries then eat these pastries. Made with care, incredible ingredients and put together perfectly. Great coffee, teas good too. Happy days!
l.
It's obviously a very popular place among young people or what's now called hipsters - the reality it's that it's a Bakery treat. Pastries and takeaway dishes are very very tasty but they come at a price. They do have queues over the weekend so be ready for it, although it's fast. Overall is a 4 star because of price, food wise it's a five.
V. L.
Google asked me to "help others know what to expect" - what you expect is extreme goodness and a feeling that you'll never look at pastry the same way ❤️ love at first bite
P. X.
Nice coffee and pastries! We visit regularly!
N. S.
Yum! We got a pastry with blood orange, white chocolate and Earl Gray and another with banana, peanuts and chocolate. Both were divine and perfectly layered.
E. P.
Pophams may not be everyone's cup of tea, however there take on baked goods is a must try. Loved it.
M. M.
Good place for breakfast. Follow me on @restaurantsinbcn (instagram)
D. E.
Great coffee and amazing innovative pastries
L. L.
Fresh high quality pastries well worth the price ! My new favourite bakery spot , will recommend to my friends and family too. Can’t wait to try more of their delicious food products and drinks.
D. Z.
Kept hearing about this place and finally decided to give it a try. And it was a triumph. Had literally one of everything and it was all crunchy, buttery goodness, with some really cool combinations I’ve never had in a pastry (marmite and cheese - a revelation!). I especially recommend the almond croissant, maple bacon and the apple crumble that were really special. Be prepared to wait in line though, and pay for quality - it’s not cheap, but every now and then we all deserve a treat.
J. W.
Their bacon and maple syrup croissant is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten, I keep thinking about it now that I'm home from my trip to London. The coffee is excellent too, and they were kind to provide a free 'babycino' for my toddler. An utterly enjoyable visit, hanging out at the outdoor shared tables on a spring day.
F.
Amazing place, coffee is perfect! It’s a must!
b. r.
Great and unique pastries . One of the best bakerys in London!
D. E.
Lovely little hidden cafe, can get surprisingly busy! The rosemary sea salt twist is very delicious
L. K.
If you are in the area make sure to drop in to Pophams for a great coffee and their unique and delicious bacon and maple croissant. It’s quickly become my favourite place to grab my coffee and sweet treat. Lovely and attentive staff who remember your name and your order which makes all the difference! Really reasonably priced freshly baked breads and pastries. Great little find.
V. M.
Nice bakery and coffee
P. J.
Consistently good bakery which serves up great croissants and coffee with amazing flavours. The wonderful thing is that you can see the time and effort they put into their products and they let the flavours and lamination do the work. Also the service is professional and consistent even though they get busy. Well worth the visit.
T. O.
Finally a coffee shop that is closer and better than the high street chains. The croissants/pastries are delicious and combined with unique and interesting fillings. The bacon and maple croissant is a personal favourite closely followed by the blue cheese and walnut. Accompanied perfectly with delicious Ozone coffee.
The owner and staff are fantastic and make spending time in there a real pleasure, definitely my new favourite coffee spot in London
A. “. A.
The Maple Bacon Swirl and Marmite Swirl pastries are excellent, and we really like the pasta you can take home to quickly cook - especially the Spicy N'Duja!
E.
Delicious coffee and pastry, friendly staff and relaxing ambiance. Highly recommended!!
C. A.
Fantastic addition to the London bakery scene. Their pastries are exceptionally good, the almond croissant and the maple & bacon are two of my favourites. The coffee is very good for a place that's predominantly a bakery. The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to serve customers.
G. D.
Top notch coffe amd oversized pastry is a killer combo, be ready for a bit of a queue especially early in the morning for this neiborhood favourite bakery
N. P.
The absolute best pastries I have had in London. Fantastic crunch on the outside with lovely buttery layers inside.
E. N.
Come here for the pastries, always a line on the weekend but goes quite quickly. The cheese, spring onion and marmite scroll is my go-to savoury item. All the sweet options are also very good, but go for the specials. The coffee is a bit hit and miss, have had a couple of time when it was veryyy bitter burnt taste and not very drinkable.
M. B.
A 'cut-above' coffee shop and bakery, get creative combinations and twists on classic bakery items
T. H.
Strong savoury pastry game, good coffee. No cakes left at midday and snooty staff affecting not to even understand the word cake, like I was in France or something. Nice font on the signage. Essence of Islington.
N.
Love pophams. Why did they get rid of the meat toasties? Seems they've gone for more or a vegan menu or it changes per season. Great staff, very friendly. Good, fast service. Place is packed and tables are shared which makes for good interactions with people in the busy city. It could help to make the outdoor space bigger as it is generally hard to find a place to sit. Good business all around!
J. D.
Lush pastries, good coffee — what more is there to say?
J. P.
Pop into Pophams for a pastry or two. You won't regret it.

It's impossible not to love this place, even though the seating is tiny and it's overrun with American instagrammers. The quality of baked goods is second to none. You can try anything, and you'll immediately understand what I am talking about. I could eat the bakies there until I drop, so it's a bit of a dangerous thing.
I. R.
Staff and Food were nice but prices are way too high.. the place is cute but very small.
G.
Great little bakery with delicious toasties
M. F.
Without a doubt the best coffee in the area. It’s small with limited seating and there can be a bit of a queue for coffee at weekends but it’s well worth the wait. The pastries are delicious and whilst I haven’t tried the freshly baked bread it looks fantastic!
K. L.
Lovely food and coffee. Friendly staff. Great for sitting outside in a sunny day.
K.
Plain croissant and pain au chocolat are perfection. The coffee is very good too. Very cute place and staff is lovely. Absolutely would come back for an early morning weekend breakfast even if I have to cross town!
J. B.
Amazing little bakery, great pastries with delicious new flavours all the time, you have to try the pain au bacon! Also the pistachio, Almond and rose water ones! Their sour dough is also the best I have found, great crusty baguettes and rye. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood.
M. D.
A must at least once during the weekend. Favorites are the ham & cheese and the almond croissants, however, most of the stuff on the menu is mouthwatering. Flat whites are among the best in town. Come early not to be disappointed
M. T.
Been here a few times since it opened and their passion for quality and innovation has not waned. All the products are made with care and attention and the friendliness off all the staff will certainly see this business thrive. A great stop to put your feet up for a few minutes or just grab one of their unusual croissants and a delicious coffee on your way to work.
C. C.
Hight quality bakery we keeping coming back whenever we are nearby. Has good coffee as well.
N. B.
We had three particularly tasty pastries and equally as many epic coffees from Pophams today - tiny space, but the service was perfect and we will definitely be back. Can recommend! x
H. Y.
Was great ham and cheese croissant and good overall coffee. I feel the espresso blend could have been more interesting, also no filter options. Would have been 5* if they had batch brew at least.
T. H. H.
Pastry is good but little pricey
I. L.
I don't live in the area but heard such good things about this place that I had to see what it was like. You're greeted by smiley staff who clearly have a passion for what they do, and are also attentive. I went for a blood orange & chocolate pastry and oh boy! It is clear from the first bite that everything is baked in the premises and they use the best ingredients. The coffee I had was very nice too. I will be visiting again for sure! :)
E. S.
Hard for me to rate the food as there are zero GF options (strongly suggest they get into this though I understand it's hard with a bakery!). The coffee however is great so can vouch for that. There are always huge lines in the morning and not much places to sit but the line moves relatively quick. Wouldn't suggest for a coffee catch up with friends but maybe grab and go coffee and treat (for any non-GFers)
l. k.
When I see one of that size, I often think they must be compensating for something. Puffed-up and oversized. I am talking about the croissants of course.
On first glance I could see why this place attracts those interested in taking pictures. It’s a beautiful setting. The croissants - from afar - picturesque indeed. Yet, the slightly overbrown appearance hints at being overbaked or worse - under buttered.
The ratio of butter to flour in croissants is a tough one. Lots of butter and you will get a delicious pastry but it won’t rise well and will have a rather flaccid and yellow appearance (think Pret A Manger croissants).
Conversely underbuttering not only allows the pastry to rise gloriously, bulking up the size and perceived value for money but also saves you money - butter is expensive. The result is an attractively shaped croissant. However the lack of butter results in a burning of the thin layers as it more breadlike than pastry.
Alas that is what we have here. A slightly dry bready croissant with only a slight hint of butter. Nice yes but it is a more befitting match for ham and cheese than chocolate.
I know taste is in the mouth of the beholder but if I am going to suffer a lifetime of croissant hanging on my hips, I want my dense buttery moment on the lips.
On a side note, the coffee is smooth and high quality. Nothing too strong or flavoursome. Nice.
Like the whole place. If I were passing by, I will call in again as it’s a lovely spot. I’ll just bring some ham and cheese.
S. M.
A really cute neighborhood bakery specialising in croissants with some interesting flavour combinations, especially on the weekend when they have their specials on. Great for a quick stop for a coffee and pastry if you're in the area.
D. d. R. C. I.
These guys strive for innovation and quality. Their pastries are as gorgeous as they are creative as they experiment with new flavours and ideas every week. Popham's is constantly reassessing to make sure they are only using the best ingredients. Currently serving Ozone coffee and Good & Proper tea. Come early if you're hoping to get lunch or take home some of their delicious sourdough bread. Free WiFi and sockets available but limited seating. Super friendly staff. Neighborhood gem. These relative newcomers will be around a long time and will keep surprising us along the way.
L. S.
Excellent coffee, food, and service
N. W.
Charming neighbourhood bakery with delicious sourdough croissants and amazing coffee. The staff are always super friendly and I love all the cute ceramic plates they serve everything on. Cosy spot, will definitely be back soon.
X. U.
Very busy on a Sunday morning and on the expensive side, but the hazelnut praline was excellent
J. M.
I live locally and come here every weekend; these guys do things as they should be done. Passionate, committed, friendly, a team effort and focused on quality. Went to Greece for two weeks recently and despite the amazing local pastry, first thing I wanted when I got home? Bacon and maple croissant and extra shot cappuccino from pophams! Getting more and more popular...queue jumping for regulars? See you Saturday.
A. P.
What can I say! As an Aussie living in London, Pophams gives me life with the best croissants (the special Vegemite and cheese was bril) and good coffee! The maple bacon is also a winner!
D. P.
Lovely bread and pastries but getting them is like gold-dust and the whole experience is a bit up itself.
R. H.
A very welcome addition to the area. Seriously good croissants with their unique flavour combos pulled off very well. Better sourdough than the local chains are serving.
E. S.
Excellent coffee and an interesting and delicious selection of pastries. Rosemary & sea salt, and Bacon & Maple are my faves! A lovely local spot to have in the neighbourhood.
S. S.
The maple bacon danish is absolutely phenomenal
M. G. K.
Beautiful pastries made to perfection to have with one of the best coffees you can have in London (if you're a coffee person). Such a good place to go to!
L. S.
Fantastic pastries and good coffee.
C. K.
Best cafe/bakery around Islington.
Little bit expensive but it's worth. Fresh and quality products baked inside the bakery. The owner is funny chatty buddy. Highly RECOMMENDED.
'Taxi driver' :))
M. S.
Fantastic to find a great local coffee shop. Coffee was great quality and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a good coffee. Haven't had a chance to try the baking yet but it smelt exceptional.
M. I.
Local gem with delicious pastry and coffee, and very friendly service!
E.
Bread is the star here... but be prepared to go early to avoid queues or disappointment.
Don’t worry - the pastries which are innovative will tide you over while you wait : )
C.
Hipster bakery with limited indoor seating and instagrammable pastries.
G. C.
The maple bacon scroll is to die for. A smoking savoury sweet dream on flaky buttery pastry. So good.
E. H.
'Pop'ped in here last Sunday for the 'Ham' and cheese croissant, was so good that on the way back i grabbed the spicy soup and a croll for the road. Great bakery - original ideas, delicious food and coffee. Ollie behind the counter always brings a smile
T. W.
Popular local bakery, with a speciality of bacon and maple syrup swirls. However, the pains au chocolat are huge and as a result you can't get the chocolate hit in every bite - there's a reason that they are usually the size they are. Also, the cappuccino needs to be more froth than liquid - it shouldn't be a latte.
N. O.
Delicious pastries, but expect the queue over the weekend.
M. Y.
What a great local bakery! I had the bacon & maple syrup croissant, which I'll definitely be going back for. Coffee also v good. Lovely staff too.
M. D. L.
Tried today. Had what's possibly the best take on the classic "Paris Brest" you can find outside Paris, called "Hazelnut Praline". Truly well put together.
In addition to that, I've tried what could be defined as a crispy vessel of crème brûlée & rhubarb. Loved its slightly toasty/burnt tones balancing the overall sweetness and the total absence of sogginess in the crispy base holding the creamy bits. Delicious!
On a less positive note: they charge card fees and don't accept Amex.
I've asked why to Lucy, their creative & marketing person (!)
She candidly replied — "Unfortunately Amex is far too expensive for us"
At £5 per pastry, take-away, that's a very creative answer.
M. G.
Lovely bakery and coffee shop! Nice outdoor seating available.
B.
Absolutely BANGING! My friend and I tried every pastry because we couldn’t choose. Them laminations are on point!
Couldn’t recommend enough. Each time I walk past the one in Tottenham Court Road I always get a pastry. Can’t resist and now I’m getting fat. Lol.
R. L.
Guys! The pastries are great but... why don’t you mention the ginger in the PB&J!? It was quite the shock as I’ve got an intolerance.
I’ll be back again but next time I’ll check before commuting to my breakfast treat
C. A.
Best coffee outside of Wellington NZ!! Pastry is very inventive along with a good selection of rye/wholemeal snakes and weekend specials. Love the rosemary & seasalt. Nice chillout sounds. 👏👏👏
P. Z.
One of the best places to get laminated pastry in London.
A. N.
Best croissant in North London. A real gem. If you're ever in the area I would highly recommend swinging by Pophams.
I spent all afternoon here working, excellent wifi speed and the staff are very attentive.
N. G.
The best coffee in islington for sure. Served in beautiful mugs. The croissants are delcious. So different to what you normally see. So happy it has opened near me.
C. C.
Really nice coffee, I've always found the pastry's to be delicious and served warm. Staff are really helpful. Nice atmosphere
O. B.
Awesome new bakery opened next to my favourite Italian, Saponara. They serve hot coffee and delicious croissants with creative new recipes.
L. N.
A wonderful bakery as well as a Cafe. The coffee is great, crafted with amazing skill and so are the pastries which are baked straight behind the counter.
M. S.
The pastry it’s excellent and super fresh. The pain au chocolate it’s insanely good. My favorite place to have breakfast! Totally recommend this place.
J. E.
Best coffees, bread, pastries, and soup in Islington / West Hoxton. Kind staff and excellent baristas. The PBJ (peanut butter and raspberry jam in a croissant dough cup with sliced bananas on top) croissant is a MUST!
A. A.
This is someplace that needs to open more as it is a very nice neighbehood shop now with great food and great service
M. R.
It was so good we got a rosemary twisted pastry thing and a coconut rum thing, great espresso from ozone roasters, really nice ceramic crockery and quiet outdoor seats, bread looked amazern too
G. S.
No doubt one the best if not best bakeries in Islington / Angel / Hackney area. Super innovative with eclectic creations!
A. S.
Great croissants and lovely staff. Only issue is when it's rainy there are far less seats, so either go early or be prepared to takeaway.
N. S.
Wow. Go here and have pastries and coffee. I went on a rainy day and it felt like sunshine in there. The staff are fabulous, the pastries are delicious and it’s a cute space.
K. K.
Innovative, tasty pastry served in pretty plates. You feel like you're having a specie dish. Coffee is also great!
C. M.
just... the pastries. maple and bacon danish is mind blowing (best warm, particularly warned up in the store, loses some bite when cold) and the rest are amazing.
L. E.
The best bakery in London
A. W.
We love this place! Tastiest pastries we know!
They have been very diligently keeping to Covid-19 guidelines.
T. W.
The bacon and maple croissant is the kind of flavour experience that will keep you up at night, wishing there were more meals in the day or mouths on your face.
N. G.

J. P.
My favourite bakery, do not miss out! Their pain au chocolat is heaven, their coffee delicious too.

N. W.
Delicious pastry, excellent bread and extremely good coffee. One of the best flat whites I have had in a while
D. L.
Busy independent bakery serving top-notch croissants and pastries, as well as toothsome sandwiches at lunchtime and glorious baguettes - get there early for the baguettes.
S. C.
Tasty little bakery. Amazing pastries but also great meals to buy to cook at home
A. G.
Amazing bread and pastries. The rye and sourdough breads are excellent. Make sure you check out the pastry specials on the weekend.
S. O.
Excellent pastries. Coffee was above average for london.
W. S.
Amazing savoury and sweet pastries. Cappuccino needs more foam but the coffee itself is delicious.
P. M.
Popular spot. The coffee is good and the pastries are very nice. But not worth the epic prices in my opinion.
Z. A.
A very good bakery, a bit far from the center of London (20 min with Uber) but it worth it. So unique. Try everything there!
A. S.
Great coffee. I enjoy tasting the unique range of pastries (sweet/savory) and the soups.
p. b.

L. D. V.
Incredible pastries. Try the bacon maple roll. Gets very busy on weekends, so come early (its open from 7am).
M. Z.
Had a delicious peanut butter, jelly croissant. Not a huge amount of room to sit down with a coffee but excellent take away pastries and drinks
N.
We came for the well known croissant, but sadly they ran out of all the pastries this day... Better luck next time i hope 🤞
N. C.
Well worth the long line. Great technique with the pastry, lovely work with the flavors, and the coffee is pretty decent too.

K. S.
Fantastic croissants and delicious coffee all served with a smile. A great addition to the area.

Great bakery although they have the tendency to burn things a bit too much to a degree it tastes of charcoal, which I think is unhealthy ... but just ask for the lightest they have.

D. B.
