Reviews of The Lily Vanilli Bakery
M. I.
What a quaint place for an afternoon coffee and pastries. A lovely place to spend the afternoon and just basically enjoy the peaceful corner location of this place.
Honest comment about the latté I ordered, I expected too much that I was a bit disappointed. Otherwise, the brownie was so yummy and the pastry roll too.

"Lily Vanilli's was a dream class and her skills are such to be championed. Lily teaches in a fun, creative way, sharing her knowledge, making one feel like a star amateur. I can't wait to start practicing and practicing these valued skills in my own home-kitchen so I don't lose a drop of information and I can proceed, conquer and amaze people with what I learnt in a mere 3 hours. And I got to go home with cake!"

Easily one of the best bakeries in London. I've visit a few times and never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and the cakes are delicious!

Situated very close to the pretty Columbia Flower Market, this bakery will win your hearts!
Run by a two women army, the amount of work and quality of their products is just remarkable.
I won a cake from this place and it was rich, moist, textured and yummy all in one!
The buttercream icing was the winner for me. Super luscious and creamy.
They do a variety of items apart from cakes but unfortunately I haven’t tried those stuff.
The packaging is neat and clean, the workspace is neat and clean and Lily is super humble n kind!
It was amazing to know that with 105k followers on Instagram the page is is still run by the same women who bake these cakes💕
They are famous for their pastel styled cakes and
Dreamy buttercreams frosting!
Yes, it is a little expensive but I think worth it once you taste the goodies.
They also sell candles and small decorations on the sides if you around then do check that out too!

Bought my birthday cake here for my 25th! And I loved my birthday cake and so did everyone else! Lily was very friendly and even gave me free coffee as it was raining heavily! Lucky me! Thank you Lily! XO
R. R.
Cute bakery and cafe house. My Oat latte was tasty and my sausage roll was piping hot and filled with a huge sausage link! Delicious!!
O.
A unique cupcakes in an open kitchen shop style, which proof the freshness of their delicious pastries. The shop location is unique too which located next to Columbia Road, and if you are lucky the place will be full of life on Sunday because of the flower market.
K.
Friensly staff and beautifully presented cakes to order. Really love the designs!
However the actual cake itself was a little dense but tasted good.
L. I.
My review is based on a cake I bought for my husband's birthday. Presentation awesome. Cake was dry and not really delicious. Expensive for what it was and a bit overrated, especially after you buy a slightly cheaper cake (for the the same birthday) from a same level bakery (trendy, plays with different flavors and artistic), that was finished 3 times faster than Lilly's one. Not sure I would buy a whole cake again.
E. P.
Great flat white and vibes. Came here on Saturday during the flower market and was really pleasant. What’s up with not allowing customers to use contactless for purchases under £5! It’s not like they aren’t getting enough business! They just want you to buy a cupcake too
P. R.
As always top notch cakes and great people service
N. S.
Ordered a birthday cake from here for my mum's birthday and it was beautifully made and absolutely delicious! The price was so reasonable as well! Definitely will order from here again!

I love this place - it has the best vegan brownies I've ever tried and every Sunday the counter is full of different beautiful cakes and all equally delicious. There are savouries too and I'm yet to find a better sausage roll - perfect for cold weekends like yesterday!
I'm so happy I discovered this place a while back - it's a really unique and charming bakery tucked away off Columbia Road. No trip to Columbia Road would be complete without a visit. I really appreciate the Lily Vanilli team for staying open for takeaway during lockdown - it really lifts my spirits to be able to go and see (and taste of course!) the beautifully decorated cakes each week. So thanks not only for the delicious cakes but helping me keep sane during lockdown!
C. W.
Good coffee, always nice on a Sunday when the market is on, the staff should be a little bit more attentive.
And please stop asking and writing ppl's names on cups, it's so Starbucks.
F. M.
My wife says the Chocolate cake is amazing and so is the coconut cake. She is still to try the brownies but she is sure it will be delicious too.
The coffee is alright and goes well with any cake.
A.
Great baked goods. Tried the savoury scone and salted caramel brownie which was particularly gooey - asked for a centre slice which may have been a mistake as it lacked any sort of cake consistency and was very battery but rich and delicious all the same.
J. R.
Pretty local cafe with warm friendly staff and delicious cakes. plus the best sausage rolls in the world!
E. C.
Lovely spot to drop by on a Sunday with both sweet and savoury treats to snack on!
m. s.
Amazing Bakery! Ordered a cake last week for a small lockdown birthday and was delicious. Incredibly soft vanilla sponge with the perfect amount of buttercream. I love how creative the cakes are and how each cake has its own small unique difference, not just generic and factory like. I collected the cake and was so nice to see lily and her team working on other beautiful cakes. 100% reccomend. Also cant wait to pop in after Xmas for one of their sausage rolls on a Sunday.. heard they're TT!!!
G.
Great hidden bakery and coffee spot, good to find ‘some’ calmness during the famous flower market on Sundays.
M. F.
Very pleasant staff, the place is a little hiden and not so easy to find. The grilled toast was super tasty, the cupcakes was tasty as well but not like the grilled toast..
E. P.
So cute, amazing yummy little cakes. And we got a large cake to take away too. Brilliant!
S. F.
The staff were really friendly and my coffee and walnut cup cake was delicious.
The hot chocolate was really choclatey too! I'll definitely be back!

Had a gorgeous bespoke cake made for my daughters first Birthday. All was ordered via email, communication was smooth and the team was very patient even when I changed my mind a few times in style and flavour of cake. Made and delivered on time. Savoured by all our party guests. Will definitely be using them any for future events.
L. J. G.
Lily Vanilli made a fabulous-looking party cake with fresh flowers for my mother's birthday, and they were so helpful and kind during the whole ordering process. Despite lockdown, communication was easy and friendly and the cake was ready for us to pick up without a hitch. Our request for some added decorative piping was perfectly interpreted too, thank you!
M. C.
I got the semi baked berry cake for my wife’s 30th birthday…. We loved it! Brilliant
A. E.
Ordered a mini chocolate cake for collection over the weekend and it was absolutely amazing, the best chocolate cake I've had in years! Service was great and I couldn't have been happier. Highly recommend :)
R. B.
Such a fun evening, I learned so much. The class was well paced with time to ask questions and practice the techniques. I loved the nibbles and cake.
E. J.
Everything about this little bakery is perfection. From their savoury sausage rolls to their edible flower topped mini-cakes, you will find it difficult to leave with just one purchase. Try the brownies for an extra chocolatey fudge treat, the coffee is pretty great too. While there isn't much seating & get's very busy with customers from the flower market, it's the perfect place to grab a take away too.
S. J.
Lily and her team made the most beautiful wedding cake for us. We were so chuffed that it looked amazing and tasted just as fantastic. Thank you so much!
I. S.
I love this little charming bakery!
Their cakes and baked goods are to die for. Not only they smell and taste amazing, but they also look absolutely gorgeous! Some of the cakes had pretty little flowers on them, to complement the Sunday flower market next door :)
I was also served a pretty impressive cup of mocha here by a very friendly member of staff :)
Very reasonably priced.
One of hidden gem's of London!
J. C.
Cakes, biscuits and treats are like art inspired by the nearby flower market. Apart from the sausage rolls which also looked deliciously flaky. Decent punchy morning coffee finishes the whole thing off beautifully. Good for people watching too.
Friendly staff and good service.
Minor niggle - no vegan treats when I visited but they do assure me that they normally have a wide selection.
If you're in the area, worth a visit. As the food is all fresh, when it's gone..it's gone - best arrive early.
C. R.
Popped in yesterday for the famous sausage roll. Wow. Delicious! Couldn’t resist one of the small handmade matcha cakes at the same time. My son dropped it on the floor but the friendly staff gave me another one for free. Nice cafe indeed. Highly recommended thank you
A. B.
Ordered a cake from here on fairly short notice (~48 hours) and they were able to produce an awesome cake. Was very tasty and pretty. Bakers were really nice. Be warned, they don't give you a plastic bag or anything, so better have a cab on standby!
L. S.
I discover this place after the lockdown and since then I become regular, best cakes in London, the cakes is rich but very light in the same time, I only hope if they can open more days as it is very busy on Sunday and if you are late there won’t be many options left.
A. H.
Love this bakery for Sunday morning pick me ups. The coffee is lovely but the gorgeous cakes are lovelier. Using seasonal, fresh ingredients including edible flowers the cakes here are inventive and beautiful. Also, try the wonderfully sweet and savoury vegetable pastry rolls.
K. R.
Great night ! Everyone was so welcoming and patient.
Fantastic baking tips I’ll be using in the future
H. S.
Lovely little bakery! Best brownies I've had in ages, excellent coffee, really cool vibe. The counter was full of beautiful cakes and pastries, will definitely be going back for more goodies!
T. R.
Tucked just off of Columbia Road this bakery is a hidden gem! Inside a little courtyard you will find little wooden table and chairs which are perfect for sitting out in the sunshine and enjoying a chat with a gorgeous cake and a cup of coffee.
Wandering inside the bakery is so quaint and cute but the decoration wont steal your focus for long as the delicious treats inside are pretty show stopping. You can tell a lot of attention to detail and hard work has gone into making these and they are just as nice in the mouth as on the eyes.
The staff are all very friendly and nice and in general this is just a really nice place to visit. If you have time - I would definitely come here.
K. C.
Excellent and imaginative creations, worth the trip for good cake! I like that the emphasis is on seasonal and quite natural ingredients, rather than just being loaded with sugar. The tarts in particular are amazing (cherry bakewell, blood orange, and rhubarb variations have been my favourite). Downsides being, it is quite small so there is usually a bit of a queue or some things will sell out. If you're closeby on a Sunday I recommend a visit (or ordering a box of cupcakes!)
L. D.
Yes, it's a little tucked away, but it's a beautiful gem of a bakery. They are always busy on a Sunday, so go early if you can, and enjoy the creativity of Lily Vanilli. Yum!
S. D.
Come early because their signature deliciously unusual cupcakes (nothing like the over-sugared ones you get elsewhere) sell out fast. Granted, this is still a nice, calm, arty place for a little coffee to escape how busy the market gets on a Sunday, but come for the cakes, sausage rolls and more if you can.
A. C.
This is probably one of my favorite bakeries, the staff are super friendly, the coffee and tea is pretty good and of course some of the baked goods are beyond comparison (especially the brownies).
The downside is that they don't accept credit cards, a bit pricey and they are only open on Sundays
I would suggest going early if you want to get some of the best pastries as they are usually gone by 12.
S. H.
Until last Sunday I had never heard of this near mythical beauty. I must have been living under a rock. Lily Vanilli is, to date, the best bakery I have discovered in London. Only open on a Sunday, aided by the flower market ambiance, Lily Vanilli is an artisinal delight. Our plan to grab a quick coffee and perhaps something small was quickly forfeited when we discovered the fresh, homemade sausage rolls, red velvet cake that was near perfection and a chocolate tart which was lucky it lasted 15 seconds. The coffee was excellent, not the finest in all of London but still top notch. The real secret behind this bakery/cafe is it's feeling of warmth and comfort as everyone jams into little tables and pews surrounded by good coffee, great food and the buzz of Sunday chatter.
M. K.
Second time ordering a bespoke cake. Never disappoints. Excellent high quality integredients, beautifully creative and artistic, always exceeds my expectations. Great, communicative team and even a reliable delivery service to west London!
A. S.
The Lily Vanilli Bakery is hidden in The Courtyard on Ezra Street, just off Columbia Road. And when Columbia Flower Market is packed (as it often is on a sunny day), The Courtyard provides a shady and crowd-free relief. Despite the outrageous cakes that Lily Vanilli is famous for (think brain cupcakes and edible vital organs), the bakery is a tame affair. But I liked the simple wood tables and white walls. I got there near the end of the afternoon, so most of the cupcakes (£2) had disappeared. I liked that they looked homemade - mounds of frosting and artfully-placed sprinkles can get a bit pretentious. These looked nice and normal. I went for one of their lovely triple chocolate brownies (£3). I'm pleased that I know about this place - most of the cake shops on Columbia Road get horribly cramped, but Lily Vanilli's is much more pleasant.
K.
Lily Vanilli produced a beautiful wedding cake. It looked fabulous and tasted absolutely delicious. Throughout the ordering process they were hugely helpful and very easy and pleasant to deal with.
G. C.
This local favourite of mine appears to only open on Sundays whilst the Columbia Road Flower Markets are open. Located in a small courtyard just off the road, the bakery does a great selection of sweet and savoury pastries as well as excellent coffee. Highly recommend the sausages and brownies!
H. H.
A short(ish) walk from Hoxton Underground, Lily Vanilli is located down some narrow and quaint cobblestone roadways.
Open only on Sundays (Lily and her staff fulfil special orders etc during the rest of the week), this place is an absolute must-visit.
The food gets better and better. We visited a couple weeks ago and I was delighted to find there were some lemon-meringue tarts available. I was in absolute heaven! They tasted just as good - if not better! - than they looked. The pastry was crumbly and buttery, the lime filling was creamy and tart, and the meringue was soft, sweet, and pillowy. I could've eaten five more if my waistline would have allowed it!
My friends tried the chocolate brownies and said they were the best brownies they'd ever eaten (which is saying a lot, as one of my friends is an absolute chocoholic and knows her way around a good brownie, and the other of my friends is north American, and so also knows her way around a good brownie!!).
The coffee was great as well.
Service was phenomenal. No grumpy faces here! Everybody looks to be sincerely enjoying themselves. We even saw Lily, and she was super friendly and had no ego (despite her fame as one of the UK's greatest bakers).
The coffee shop is a quaint, trendy little place. Situated right by the Columbia Road Flower Market (which is only there on Sundays, and brings in a huge amount of people, hence why LV's is open on Sundays). So once you're done with your coffee and treat, you can head over to the flower market and buy someone something special!
We took the underground to LV (well, to Hoxton, then walked to LV), but it's also accessible by bus or cycling. There's a bustling, vibrant atmosphere, people singing and performing, vendors shouting and advertising their wares, dogs being taken for walks, all sorts. It's a real central-London experience, and I'd highly recommend it! Can't wait to go again.

Very friendly and attentive service by Lily and her team; Lily remembered us even though we had not been for a while due to work commitments. The best chocolate brownies I have tasted! Also try the carrot and beetroot muffins - inspirational combination of flavours which has made me think of recreating them at home but with a twist.

Yummy veggie roll!! Vanilla and Baileys sponge for later! Lots of gluten free options. Great place. Lovely and friendly staff 😊😋

My vegan birthday cake was made by the lily vanilli bakery so good and I just can't stop thinking about the moisture taste everything.... Think it's time for another
G. K.
Loved the place, interior deco & location is incredible. A bit overpriced though.

A must for visits to the Sunday flower market. A small place, hidden in a beautiful nook just off of Columbia Road. You may be tempted by the nearby kitsch and allure of reclaimed furniture...which you can feel free to give in to...however, do yourself a favour and either reward your resolve, or simply give in entirely, and grab a tasty coffee and bit of baked deliciousness.
K. Q.
Staff are friendly, place looks and smells amazing. you definitely eat food with your eyes there. I had just brought a whole cake there and taste epic.
V. H.
This is one of my favourite bakeries ever.

Good cakes made with fresh ingredients and style and nice staff - there is definitely better in the city but if you are in the neighbourhood for the flower market it's worth a detour

(Translated) I came because I was selected as Great taste in England.
As you can see, it only opens on Sundays.
It is a very steamed brownie that you can never eat in Korea.
I can't think of one person alone.
The coffee is not bad
Flat White + Basic Brownie £ 6.8 came out :)
