Reviews of Villa Mamas London

Never been to a Bahraini Restaurant before, so it might be the best there is, however the food wasn't out of this world. My dish was the Tahcheen which was recommended by the waiter as the best dish on the menu. It wasn't anything like your traditional tagine. It was a rice cake with tasteless chicken flakes inside resembling something that came out of a tuna can! No large chicken pieces, just shredded, and was disappointingly bland. The menu does not describe the chicken as being shredded, half of the dish was left uneaten it was that bad. The lamb shank (Mozart laham) my friends ordered was quite good, although if you order with mashed in potato as one did you will get a better experience as their rice is very average. The Moussaka was the best dish by far. Quinoa Tabbouleh was a decent salad too. The apple mocktail I cannot recommend as it was awful, tasteless and overpriced apple juice with mint added for decoration, I added my friend's sprite to the drink just to add some flavour. The mango and passion fruit mocktail was excellent.
I was bordering on 3/4 stars however the reason they got pushed down to 3 is due to them, on a Saturday night, serving the bills to all the tables without us asking for it, not asking if we wanted desserts before doing so, and at 11pm turning up all the lights to full blast in a not-so-polite gesture basically evicting all their customers! I have never been to a restaurant where I have been made to feel so unwanted at closing time. Most kitchens close at 11pm however it's very normal for your customers to stay on chatting for some time afterwards, as after all, they are there to have a good time, not just eat. The waiters were polite and nobody asked us to leave, however we felt so uncomfortable and subsequently left at 11.15pm, we were the last to leave as all others left immediately after the lights were turned up. Quite an unusual experience and left quite a bad impression. As mentioned service on the whole was good, just this last part of the day could be managed in a better way. Perhaps letting table know that you will close soon and if the customer wants to order a dessert to do so, giving a heads-up so that you are prepared so you can wrap up your conversation or go elsewhere to spend the rest of your Saturday night. Room for improvement here.
I felt the menu was overpriced for what it was, add the 20% service charge, and the lack of etiquette when exiting your customers, 3 stars is generous.

Came for early dinner... We knew it was a Bahraini restaurant but the menu was unexpectedly different from what expected... First thing hit me was the prices relative to its type and level.. they were expensive.. I have been to Michelin star restaurants and prices are at par with that..
Ambiance was good so we ordered mocktails and a couple of main courses and side dishes..
What a taste!!, all was forgiven.. loved the portions and the great taste... Although I think it is still expensive (hence lost one star) but I thoroughly recommend a visit at least once ..

If you're craving arabic/Bahraini food, this is the best place to go to. The atmosphere is so cozy and quiet, the food is beyond superb, everything was absolutely delicious, the dessert Um Ali is absolutely worth going for, and the saffron ice cream was so good. The customer service is amazing, they were smiling and very friendly.
Thank you for the beautiful service.

This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts and delicious dishes with a beautiful presentation.
We ordered the following:
- starters: Kofta, Warak enab (very yummy), chebood deyay.
- Main course: Machboos deyay and Mozat Laham. Very delicious
- Desert: Mohalabia and saffron ice cream.
I personally liked everything in this restaurant.
The staff were very very friendly, kind and helpful.
I recommend this place to everyone! I would like to go back again and again.

You definitely should check out this restaurant if you are fond of Middle Eastern food!
Hummus and plain khubus - My go-to dip with its subtle nuttiness and creamy texture which made a great combo with the warm bread.
Quinoa Tabbouleh - Super fresh salad, surprisingly filling.
Ch’ban Rubian - Flavourful stuffed prawn patties in a tangy sauce😍
Warak enab - Vine leaves filled with rice and veggies. Sadly, not pictured but these went down a treat as well.

We visited back in May and was seated outside under heated lamps (due to the virus). However, this was no issue as we found it created a rather intimate and warm experience even with the rain☔️
Villa mamas offered an exceptional range of cocktails which we also had no issue indulging in.😜
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the food with its wide range of different tastes, therefore I would certainly return and recommend for that reason.

If you are looking for a very delicious place with cozy atmosphere then this is number 1 in my opinion.. food is scrumptious, the place is clean, the staff are friendly. There is air conditioning inside . I would recommend sea bass Saiadya for main course , I have tried everything and it’s all very delicious. Best of the luck to the owner and the staff..

Delicious food, great cocktails and warm, friendly staff. We’ll be back and it’s definitely worth a visit.
Food slightly on the pricey side but in keeping with the local area. The lamb and hummus starters were great and the Chicken Tandoori main was delicious - full of flavour, beautifully cooked and served with rice & salad.

Amazing service, waiters were so nice and helpful!
Food is really tasty, rather pricy but I think it’s ok for the location in the middle of Chelsea :)
Great vibe!

Small, local place but don't let that fool you. This is a magnificent restaurant with amazing food! The Bahraini traditional dish, Machbous I think, was my fave. The lamb shank would be #2
