Reviews of Gooey Bakery + Café

Not just another Northern Quarter brunch spot serving scrambled egg on sourdough which is refreshing.
Brilliant options both savoury and sweet of in house baked goods. Swiss roll and bacon sandwich were amazing.
Staff is super friendly. Opening times are great too, it’s good to have an option on Sunday that opens before 11.
Class.

Had a really great sandwich, a coffee and a cookie to take out. The place fulfils it’s brief and then some. There’s not much subtlety to the sweet stuff, but if you’re into this type of overstuffed, sweet cookie then they are excellent examples (and sometimes they’re precisely what you need in life), and the egg sandwich was superb; buttery, soft, well toasted, enriched bread with a perfectly cooked egg, and well constructed so it held together from first bite to last. Coffee was decent, and the space could be used a little better - but overall it’s an excellent offering, and good value.

A truly unique concept in the heart of NQ. Best egg sandwich and OJ I’ve ever had and it’s all made from scratch as well! 😮💨😮💨

It’s a 9 to 6 place so can’t come before work.
Quality donuts, actually immense’
Is it pricey?
I’d say for 3 coffees’ 3 donuts and one muffin’ it’s 24 quid’ a bit high but damn good
I’m gonna have the brunch tomorrow
Place looks pretty blank’ harsh edges, not cosy’ but a great space used well…can’t get that biscoff donut out of my mouth’ check the pics…oh not Bruce take away’ your gonna lose the work crowd’
Follow Up, ‘next day brunch’….I wanted give a mention to the brunch I had:
Service is 10/10…no doubt so good, attentive, but off the bat it’s pricey’ not sure why? £30 for brunch 2 dishes and 1 coffee & tea’ plus muffin that’s allot.
It’s trying to hard here and l can really say that’ others in NQ have this refined, we had mushrooms and egg sandwich’ which was good but not at the price, my egg sandwich was lush’
Long wait’ and l got a ticket on the car’ should not take 25minutes from ordering to get the drinks’
I think this place is certainly a coffee and sweet treat place but the brunch needs work…nice experience and top notch staff..

Recommend skipping the queue and getting a cookie or doughnut to go. But good sit in food recommend just getting the thick cut bacon on its own and some sweet stuff.

The french toast was delish, the goey centre was delightful alongside the maple and butter topping on the toast… lets not dismiss how huge it was too.
The egg sandwich was sensational, the eggs as you can see were cooked perfectly and the salt added a great balance of flavours, so happy with this option and reasonably priced at £6.50.
We also got a cinnamon bun and lotus donut to take home, which were delish and so fresh thoroughly enjoyed.
If you don’t mind queuing outside, in the lovely rainy Manchester then I definitely recommend. Such a lovely place and staff are super friendly

Have gone and outdone it with their simple but beautiful open kitchen cafe.
Here you will find all your favourite selection of cookies and doughnuts as well as a really thought through brunch menu.
We tried the egg mayo on shokupan bread. For those that don't know this bread is Japanese milk bread.
It has such a light and fluffy texture and was perfect. The sandwiches are made fresh to order and the semi soft boiled egg on top really gives it that picture perfect look. This was such a good sandwich.
Their french toast is absolutely HUGE and it's stuffed. Easily one of the best FULLY SOAKED French Toasts in Manchester.
It's stuffed with dulce de leche and topped with maple syrup and french butter.
These two are a must try on the menu as well as making sure you pick up goodies to take home.

I have tried the French Toast, and it was extremely delicious. I would highly recommend it. The brioche loaf is filled with thick custard and caramel. It will make your mouth water 😅

Pretty overrated honestly. Very expensive. Egg sandwich was average, bread was really good but not fresh, and most importantly the eggs and the entire sandwich was cold. The french toast was good but not great.

I keep craaaaving this French toast. Beck one I've ever had.
I'd also never pick the mushrooms on toast, but it's the thing I go back for. Get it.
