Reviews of Big River Bakery
R. K. R. K.Andy, the founder visited our Newcastle Business School on the 22nd June 2022 as part of our Rural Entrepreneurship conference and made this interesting presentation about his background, values and the contributions that this bakery is making to to the community and society at large. The slides in the pics are self explanatory. Our lunch was then sponsored by the bakery, which was delicious. I look forward to visiting the bakery one day and taste the food at the venue.
M. R.Amazing bakery! The staff were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. The Baker even came to speak to me about one of the recipes I was enquiring about, amazing service! The stotties were fantastic, the texture was perfect and the flavour was great. The cheese scone was absolutely delicious, the texture was perfect and I really enjoyed the amount of black pepper used. The chicken balti was delicious, it contained a range of fresh vegetables and larg , pieces of chicken. The spices used in the chicken balti worked perfectly together. The cinammon swirl was my favourite of the products I tried. The crust was amazing, the flavour was delicious and the topping was incredible. Definitely get down to the Big River Bakery!
S. C.Just had a work team building event here. Really great fun - baked some lovely bread. The staff are excellent. But most importantly is the ethos behind this bakery...it focuses on sustainable practices and supporting the local community. We need more businesses to operate in this manner. Please support them.
A. H.Lovely sourdough bread!! I had to freeze some of it or I would have just ate and ate it till it was gone 😃. Definitely recommend it.
Staff were lovely. I got caught in a downpour
of rain and they gave me paper towels to dry off, a decent bag to carry my bread in so it wouldn't get wet and directed me to the closest bus stop so i wouldn't have a long walk back to the stop on sandyford road.

d. f.We all know that pearls are found in the hidden depths, and this particular gem is definitely worth the effort of seeking it out. Not only do they produce amazing, fresh, tasty breads of all kinds, but ultra tasty, fresh sandwiches and sweet and savoury treats, but they do it with a smile, great service and ridiculously low prices. Add in the vital element of doing good for society and you have this fabulous exemplar of a business with social responsibility as its core philosophy. You will find their products hard to beat, their value impossible to beat and come away feeling good about shopping there. A wonderful enterprise!

A. P. (.A fantastic local bakery, run by the community for the community. Really friendly service with a great range of handmade artisan breads at affordable prices (they explained that they are matching their products to the needs of the community). Also currently (Nov. 19) hosting a great vegan doughnut business. The bakery also offers workshops and experiences aimed at various age groups and interests. And best of all - the bread is delicious!

J. M.Read about this place a few times and eventually got there. Certainly wasn't disappointed! Absolutely superb! All freshly baked on the premises, you can watch the guys making and baking. We sat in and had a coffee and sandwich which tasted great and so good value. We also had to buy a couple of fresh out of the oven, proper stotties to take home! Will be visiting again soon for more supplies for us, and the family, living in more remote southern postcodes 😀😀
D. J.Freshly made stotties £1 & still warm from the ovens, vegan selection including mushroom rolls, cakes and flapjacks. The other breads, cakes and snacks look fantastic and you can even grab a brew and sit in. Great watching what's happening in the bakery while waiting. A real hive of activity and delightful tasty treats.
M.Super customer friendly place, tasty grab&go sandwiches with vegan options! Also wonderful carrot cake, quickly prepared and decorated (with tiny, cute chocolate carrot) when I asked if they ever serve it! Recommend:))

Prices vary but competitive with Gregg's.
Stotties are my favorites, might have to wait for a batch of fresh ones as they shift fast! Sarnies here are good (sampled Ham and peas pudding! wowsa)
hey do a bit of charity work as well - so get there to help them pay for this (I think its to do with a certain day food prices bottom out at less than costs - just what can be afforded - to help those with money issus).
Nice staff, fast and fresh food and the baking smell to die for! Quite a range of items including sweets and sarnies! Worht a visit (and pickup some Stotties at worst freeze em!)

C. R.I popped into today to get some stotties and ham etc. I’m on the Autistic spectrum and I find it very difficult with communication. So to cut a long story short, went in and was greeted by a warm and lovely lady with a great big smile that made me feel at ease. She was very courteous and friendly. The prices are excellent and the stotties, ham and pease pudding are the best I’ve ever had. I couldn’t recommend this place enough and I guarantee to return very soon.
