This is the best cafe in the North East! The baked goods are second to none with a selection of delicious pies and pasties. The cakes and pastries are wonderful - particular favourites are the rhubarb cheesecake and giant custard slice. It’s busy but usually there is a table especially with the outside seating. You can pop in for some freshly baked bread, takeaway a mince pie, stay longer for a Sunday roast, or linger over coffee and cake. I don’t yet have pics of the cakes and pastries because they disappear too fast!

I've only ever used the takeaway section of the Riverview Bakery, so can't comment on the dining-in services. I love that this place highlights what food is dairy free and what is vegan. This should be standard everywhere because places that make their own food should definitely know what's going into each thing. The cakes I've had have been delicious and I'm especially fond of the Bakewell tarts which are very hearty and flavoursome. My partner loves the range of cakes available and tries something different on every visit. I've had some of the savoury bakes too which haven't been as much to my liking but they're still decent. There are some comments that things here are a bit pricey but as I only really eat here as a treat I don't think it's too bad. The portions of cake are fairly generous and though they're more expensive than somewhere like Gregg's, they're far bigger and not mass produced, so I guess it's up to your own decision as to what you'd rather have.

Nice homemade cakes with a large choice, the shop looks really nice and cosy. They have outside seating in the back of the shop and by the river. I had latte several times here i almost enjoyed it every time. There is a carpark just behind the shop. This place is perfect for a relaxing breakfast or for a quick bite!

Such a lovely place to catch up with friends. Great food and great coffee too and a wide range of foods available for eat in or take away. Plenty of pies and pastries to take away and if you fancy a cake, well, it'll be difficult to decide because there are so many to choose from! Would definitely recommend you visit and even take a walk in the nearby Milkburn Woods and make a morning/afternoon of it! :)

Seems very popular, was not aware there was a sit in cafe serving all sorts. Went there specially for their cream cakes, which are so popular i couldnt get the one i really wanted but settle on a few others which were nice, some a little too sweet for my pallette.

That's a WOW from me. Beautiful pie, beautiful soup with lovely baked on the premises bread and salty butter, amazing cake, huge slice, huge taste. All for £10. Plenty of friendly staff, lovely premises and parking at the back. You literally cannot get better! Some places deserve to do well and this is one of them.

Good cafe, nice food and interior. Large selection of cakes although not all are homemade and some are a little bit sickly. The savoury bakes like the cheese and onion pasties are very nice too. They also do homemade ice cream but I've not got around to trying this.

I've been to Riverveiw about a dozen times since discovering it at the start of 2022 and it is without hyperbole the nicest cafe in the North of England, quite possible the whole UK. The cakes in particular are to die for, massive portions, eat in or takeaway, huge selection, delicious fresh bread, lovely pies and pastries. The lunches are also lovely with the dirty wedges being a great choice along with the sandwich selection. The service is excellent, everyone is very upbeat and no request is considered unreasonable to the staff. Only thing I could ever moan about is how hard it is to get a table on a Saturday due to the places popularity but that's no fault of the cafe itself.

This place raises the bar very high for anyone trying to serve Quiche of the day or bacon and scrambled eggs on toast. Bakery? Riverview Bakery is so much more. The people are lovely. The wares are an absolute delight. Soooo much choice, so little time. Savoury or sweet you will be astounded by the choice and quality. Have a wander along the river if you feel guilty!!! There is a menu if you like to sit in, or takeaway. You can even eat outside at the pavement tables. The Bakery is also dog friendly. I would challenge anyone to find something they would not like. Open until late too. Nothing negative to say. Cannot recommend highly enough. Covid precautions are seriously in place.

Amazing little place! We were having a little drive when we came across this delicious cafe. First time and definitely not our last, delicious tea and cakes. They do have a full menu, which includes breakfast but we only stopped for tea (and a sneaky cake lol). They do a great variety of mouthwatering pies, pasties and homemade bread which look outstanding. They do cater for vegetarians and vegans and some other allergy intolerances which is awesome. You can actually see them making some of the things they sell in the shop, which is really nice and quite unique for a bakery. Staff are super friendly and really helpful, which makes all the difference and adds that personal touch we all love. There is parking and outdoor seating available, definitely worth while going to visit. We will most certainly be back, loved it.

Will definitely be heading back to sample some of the other offerings as I'm not sure I could have coped with one of each (I'd have given it a darn good go, though!) Disappointing to drive over 30 mins to visit a once favoured eatery only to find that the kitchen closed at 4pm despite the opening hours being until 5pm. The vegetable quiche was pretty awful but the cakes just about saved the day.

The Riverside Bakery is always on my 'to do ' list when I am in Gateshead visiting my daughter. It's a bakery but it's also a café where you can get really delicious food. My daughter and I always have a pork pie and a slice of cake. The pork pies are proper pork pies and are amazing. (Not like the rubbish you buy from the supermarket) The cakes are luscious and very big portions. We had Victoria sponge but there are lots of different ones to choose from. The staff are very polite and helpful and always make you feel welcome. The café also has an outdoor seating area at the back of the shop. The seating is modern and looks really comfy. Everywhere is very clean including the toilet facilities, which are very well looked after and modern. Over the road on the front of the café there is a grass verge where you can sit down, relax and listen to the birds and the river running by, which lies just over the verge. AHH bliss. Take your own fold up chairs though as there are no benches. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

I've had to edit this review as the food and service are really going downhill as the place gets busier and more popular. A load of kids have been hired and I suggest a bit of training wouldn't go a miss while the bakery is closed. My flat white was more or less a cup of milk which arrived after our food. The poor kid on the coffee machine was being yelled at that people outside were leaving because their coffees were taking too long. I ordered the smashed avocado and poached eggs on toast with halloumi like I usually do. You used to get two slices of toast and a good amount of avocado but now you get one piece of toast with a squeeze of shop bought runny guacamole. It's way too garlicky for breakfast! The halloumi was overcooked. The poached eggs are always good though. I mentioned to a young staff member that if they had run out of fresh avocados they could have told me and I could have picked something else. She snapped at me that guacamole is avocado and walked off. I would come back here again in a couple of months and see if the standard is back up because it is a lovely place. Really love this place. So much so that I almost didn't want to review it and it get too busy that I can't get a table again! The food is amazing and the counter is full of fresh artisan bread and cakes

Had heard lots of nice things about this bakery so visited today with my daughter and Grand daughter, the cakes are not cheap but after having had lunch there which was OK but not fantastic we decided to take some cakes home and they looked fabulous, but sadly on eating them they were tasteless and very disappointing, the cream was bland and the pastry soggy, the lemon tart was thick and defo did not taste of Lemon Sorry but 5 people with the same opinion can not be wrong, or maybe we just picked a very bad day to visit

The cakes and pastries here are truly incredible. The range of food on the menu is also incredible. From Breakfasts to Sunday roasts. Pies come with gravy black as tar.. but doesn't have much flavour. Sadly though there are issues. I see your 5 star hygiene rating but.... Dogs, no matter how small,sitting at tables? Tables not cleaned between customers? Lack of staff? Food is not only served here but made/baked here. Seemingly endless numbers of teenagers coming into the food prep/bakery area... even opening a can and having a drink. Perhaps Gateshead council should have another visit? Too many items on the menu? Not enough staff? Getting complacent? Victims of their own succes?

The food was exquisite, all fresh, quick service, food arrived piping hot and the cakes and desserts were all homemade and were to die fo, the chef also brought a dish to the dog....he favourite, a nice juicy sausage! A lovely atmosphere, with lovely freindly staff, the locals were very welcoming too. This is a delightful little cafe in a beautiful location. Busy with a nice atmosphere the food is home made and served by friendly polite staff. It's almost impossible to choose from the large selection of delicious cakes. The menu offers a good range breakfast, brunch and main dishes and everything is very reasonably priced. It's dog friendly and I'll definitely be making regular visits.

Lovely gem. Nice place to visit. Good menu all homemade. We visit regularly but on our last visit we sat at 2nd table on right as you enter cafe from the front. At far side of table though not enough room to be able to sit very restricted access due to a display stand . Also we look forward to you're custard slices. Which we usually buy for takeaway, 4 people.. We found last week that custard slices weren't custard. They were displayed as custard slices but weren't. The custard filling usually looks like custard not cream filling was very creamy not really liked by us three

Considering it's off the beaten track, it is a very popular place. Once you taste the food, you'll understand why. Great taste, great selection and great value. Staff are friendly and efficient and the service is quick, considering how many people are visiting. There's parking at the back and a little back terrace, should you not get a seat inside. I would also recommend getting a cake or two ( perhaps a Pork Pie if you're that way inclined ) to take away, you won't regret it!

Wow! Amazing food and lovely atmosphere. My wife had won a voucher at a local raffle for a £20 spend at the Riverside Bakery and what a treat it was! I have a very big sweet tooth so my eyes were literally popping out of their sockets. From chocolate cakes to melbas and millionaire's shortcske, they have it all. A lovely, friendly atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating aldo available should you wish to sample their range of teas, coffees and other drinks.

Have been visiting this bakery since we moved to Lintzford a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We decided to go for coffee and to get warm when we had the power cut from the storm and the staff blow us away with their kindness and understanding. They gave us coffee on the house and let us charge are phone as we had no power and even offered us free hot soup to take home. These are the kindest friendliest people we have met for some time, and the hub of our community. PLEASE support them as you can, as they supported their community when they where in need. What a fantastic team!!.

Just visited the Riverview Bakery for the 1st time. The deco is really cosy and kind of old fashioned but trendy all at the same time. It has so much choice and specialises in old school cakes, quiche, pies and whippy ice-cream. I had beef tiryaki for my main course and bought a lovely slice of cheesecake and quiche to take home. The portions are huge and the prices are extremely reasonable. It also welcomes dogs and has an outdoor area. Can not wait to go back. Thanks for the warm welcome 🤓

Brilliant, that's all I can say. You don't often come across little gems like this. We stopped here for something to eat and a coffee on our walk and we were spoilt for choice. We grabbed a coffee and a slice of meat and potato pie and it was spot on, and I know I'm not supposed to because I'm trying to lose a few pounds but I indulged in a peach melba and it was heaven.

Found this lovely place a few weeks back. Can’t believe I had not been there before. Well done to the staff and owner for the way you run the business in these challenging times. On bank holiday Friday it was very busy but everyone gave each other space and the grass bank on the opposite side of the road gave plenty everyone plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the lovely food. As a side point well done to all the other visitors, there was no rubbish left behind, which was a joy to see.

We have been regular customers of this fabulous bakery since the end of 2017. The owner and staff go out of their way to provide an exceptional service to customers and the community alike. Even during both lockdowns Rachel the owner has provided a service to the community above and beyond. We are not residents of the area but travel a short distance to sample the wonderful selection of its delightful menu. The bakery itself offers an extensive menu all of which is highly recommended. From savoury to sweet such as Sunday lunches, afternoon teas, cakes, pies the list is endless. The surrounding area offers lovely views and pleasant walks. The outside seating area allows you to take in the beautiful scenery. Facilities are provided to secure cycles. We would highly recommend a visit to purchase the delicious goods. Our favourite place to be cant wait wait for lockdown to end so we can once more enjoy sitting in this lovely place.

Riverview Bakery is a hidden jem. Nestled at the bottom of the hill in the old mining village of Blackhall Mill the bakery sits by the river. The food is all freshly baked daily. The menu has something for everyone and the cakes well......you'll have to come and see for yourself. The staff led by owner Rachel are so friendly and welcoming. For several months I drove passed a couple of Riverview signs on my way to visit my mum who lives in Hamsterly. On one visit, I thought I'd pop down into Blackhall Mill to see if I could get something tasty to have with a cup of tea... I wasn't disappointed. Fresh produce included: breads, cream cakes, biscuits, scones along with a large selection of savoury items.. can also pick up milk, fruit and veg. as well. Oh, & they're also serve a limited menu of takeaway meals. Don't know why I'd left it so long to call in.. I now call in every time I visit mum. I'd def. recommend give the bakery a try..

A quirky establishment, with odd tables and chairs. The decor is shabby chic with odd pieces of wood attached to walls. But it all works. The food is home made style and tastes great and there's plenty of it. They have a in-house bakery with a variety of fresh bread, pastries and cakes. The food on display in the glass cabinets looks mouthwatering. The staff are friendly and efficient and even when the cafe was nearly full the staff coped admirably. The food is of a high standard and at a fair price.

I'm a bus driver for Go North East and heard about the place. I had a fair amount of time before picking up and heading to Newcastle again. So went into this gem and had the best coffee I've ever had. They do lunch baps of chicken pork beef or thick gammon. You get stuffing and gravy if you want and was delicious. I was full for most part of the day....worth every penny. I came back that weekend with my partner he had the chicken burger and I had the quiche and salad with new potatoes. All this with a latte and 2 drinks for 12 quid! I did not have any sweets because I honestly could not fit it in. We will be back and I will be sure to call in along my bus route for a cuppa when I've got the time. Best cafe I've been too!

They have the BIGGEST peach melbas ive seeen in my life, they are huge and only £1.50 each. They make the very best plate pies, the pastry is beautiful and the the fillings are not missing, theres so much, proper pies. Also single pies, also with a good amount of filling. And dont get me started on the cakes. The choice is amazing, and they are always trying out new ones. They have a sit down cafe also, serving tea , coffee and food. Theres tables outside if its a nice day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Also they didnt do my favorite steak and kidney pies, i asked why, and the next day there they were, baked fresh and tasty as hell. Check it out guys, well worth a visit. Also for anyone walking their dogs, they are always welcome, very dog friendly, with dishes of water at all times.

Just found this great coffee place by a recommendation from a fellow cyclist after our usual stop at Hounsgill was closed. We came back down the Derwent Walk tract and off through Ebchester, Hamsterley Mill and down to Blackball Mill where it is by the Riverside. It has a great variation of food to choose from: scones, sandwiches both hot and cold, soup, pies and a wide variety of cakes. I had the pea and ham soul with brown artisan bread which was a delight as it was hot with large chunks of ham. The service was very friendly and it was very busy even for a Monday when the kids were back to school. I would highly recommend a visit for a great lunch.
