Reviews of Dozen

Bernie and Lawrence are the dream, AMAZING sourdough, the best croissants (@Felicity Cloake you must!!) and always an exciting seasonal treat and something good for lunch! Not just Norwich ‘good’ these guys hold their own with the best of the UK’s artisanal bakers. We are so lucky to have them. But don’t come, I don’t want to queue 😜
M. P.
In my humble opinion the best sourdough bread in Norwich. Clean shop. Good choice. Lovely service. Priced for quality. You know it's good when you queue for 25 minutes on a Saturday morning in Covid times.

Passing this place last week was a momentarily shocking experience. For I never imagined I would see, middle class folk, queuing placidly in the rain for bread.
Foolishly I thought this necessity to queue for a staple like bread, was the result of climate change, or the vagaries of a hard Brexit and i felt my ego swell with a glorious narcissistic rage, and an urge to join the gilded folk of the golden triangle in forming a vegan-workers cooperative for the protection of our inalienable right to subsidised bread.
Fortunately, I learned quickly that in the lamentable absence of a nearby Waitrose, this little bakery was courageously making up for the lack with excellently baked bread and cakes. I joined the queue and bought an excellent loaf. It was expensive, but definitely worth it for a treat.
However, when I spend a small fortune on a French Stick, I would like what I normally receive in Gregg's, the simple acknowledgement of our shared humanity: A smile.
Edit: i have returned to Dozen about a dozen times since making the above observation. And on each occasion i was served by friendly, pleasant and humane member of staff. It is a wonderful bakery, one of the best in the UK, so along with the quality of the staff, a very well deserved 5 stars.

Definitely the best bread you could wish for, by far the best in Norwich. The other bakes are also lovely and the jams etc. are an added treat. One of my favourite day off treats is bread and butter from here.

Has to be one of the best bakeries in Norfolk, not just Norwich. Delicious breads, cakes, hot cross buns and sausage rolls - plus local preserves and other delicacies. Delightful team too - always cheerful and helpful.

Dozens sourdough is the best in town, their cookies and sweet treats are divine and the customer is service is always great - you can tell that they really care and are passionate about the products they make and sell.

The bread is fabulous; top notch regular and sourdough, with a range of grains. Always a queue so arrive early. However, the non-loaf offerings (sweets, savouries etc) have gone quite downhill since management switched hands, which really let's it down. Disappointing, particularly given how spectacular their bread is.

Wow... Had a delicious croissant from here. Wonderfully buttery, and perfectly crispy. It was an elegant English take on a French pastry. Lady who served me was friendly and price was justified given the quality. Will be back!

Delicious bread I recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Incredible croissants and pain au chocolat here, not to mention the crunchy sourdough loaves and cookies, some of the cakes are also pretty good, like the way the cakes change all the time. This place is indispensable to the NR2 community! 5*

Flawless. The highest quality produce imaginable, NR2 is lucky to have a neighbourhood bakery of this standard.

Amazing breads, and lovely service. This bakery's bread is on the top.of what a proper, tasty bread should be.
Slightly expensive but worth the quality of product you're given. Also, make sure to go as soon as possible as it is sold quite quickly!

Best sour dough bread in Norfolk. Always an excellent loaf. Thank you so much. Norwich is a better place for it.

Love this bakery. A fine choice of breads and the sausage rolls really are something special. As are the cheese and marmite swirls (or so my wife reliably informed me).
The staff are always polite and helpful when you are undecided as to what choice to make.

What a fantastic business this is and how well they have coped during these past months. The range of breads is fantastic and each day different snacks appear such as pizza or baguettes filled with unusual tasty ingredients.

Bread like at home. Although it costs more I am happy to pay the price for the quality bread available in the bakery. Sweet stuff is great as well. I always laugh when people say "I don't like the crust on my sandwitch". First of all there is no "crust" on everyday bread and secondy, try this crust! Yummy Yummy :)

I've tried several different & varied loaves, and I can't say I cared for any of them, I presume the bread sales are reliant on people who want to rave about the authenticity & origin rather than those who actually enjoy eating. Cakes and pastries are generally good, especially the sausage rolls. Could be friendlier.

We went on the hunt for some bakery goodness and came across this place. I'd previously heard good things however we feel disappointed. Everything we purchased other than the fruit whirl was either greasy or undercooked. I can't fault the customer service though, the lady behind the counter was helpful, friendly and chatty. It's such a shame because it all looked so nice. Maybe we will try the bread next time. Also the shop had a lot more space for local foods. Maybe it's because we came on a Saturday and they had sold out, I'm not sure.

Pastries and chocolates leaning on the expensive side but the bread is really good and it really smells like a good French bakery as soon as you enter the store.
A gem in Norwich that I discovered by chance and I am now a regular customer.

Self-confessed cheese and marmite swirl addict. Having previously given a very negative review to a competitor of Dozen, I feel it necessary to balance things out and review Dozen here too. Having recently completed a course in Norwich, I would pop in most Thursday mornings for a coffee and a cheese swirl. These things are addictive, I can't even write about them without having the urge to drive to Dozen! They also do fantastic baguette type breads. I guess they are very influenced by French baking as their bread and pastries have a very authentic French taste and texture. My only criticism is that they can't slice the bread but, as a small business, I imagine such a machine will be something they will invest in as they grow (at least I hope so). Customer service has always been brilliant although I must say I have never had cause to complain. The shop is a little out of the way unless you live in the 'Golden Triangle' but it is well worth a trip.
M. G.
True artisans of the Golden Triangle; breakfast can always be turned into an extravagance here. The best pain au chocolat.

This is a much loved local bakery, which bakes excellent bread on its premises. It is very popular with local residents. You can park outside for long enough to make your purchases.
