Reviews of Jacka Bakery
S. F.
A little gem of a bakery. Premium bread and pastries with a justified matching price tag. We visit every time we're in Plymouth. Often a queue in the mornings but all good things come to those who wait right?
T. H.
A lovely little bakery making great sourdough bread. The tart we bought had the crispest sweet pastry base I have ever had. They serve very good coffee too. Not cheap but well worth the price.
J. A.
A divine bakery.
I don't really want to share my review or this place with anyone as it's hard enough to get one of their sourdough loaves when I visit. Honestly there isn't a single thing they make that won't blow you away!!! The pastries, the bread especially the sourdough, it's just too good. Well worth the price tag and the queue.
S.
Well … see photo… this has to be the very best jam doughnut I have ever ever ever had ! And I am very much so the other side of 21 ! 😂😂😂 Thank you.. I’ll be back ! 😂😂😂
P. H.
Crusty delicious tradition sourdough loaves. Excellent cakes and coffee. Delightful friendly staff and eclectic music. Small but warm with fine baking aroma makes it all the more cosy. Unusual and surprising cakes and puddings. Selection of Cook and baking books to read. Tiny place.. couple of outside tables in the noisy street.
A. S.
It’s not only the oldest working bakery in England but they have the best bread in U.K. . Their customer service is fantastic. Try their bread , eggs and coffee and you won’t be disappointed .
I can’t recommend this bakery strongly enough.

We used Jacka Bakery to cater for an office event which required a range of dietary requirements including vegan and gluten free, and everyone at the event was genuinely blown away by the quality of the pastries and how large they were!
Plus Jacka were far cheaper than most of the catering alternatives, which made them the obvious choice for us.
I absolutely recommend this bakery, and they make the best pain au chocolat I've ever had!
C. M.
The best Eccles cakes in the world. Oh and the team there are super friendly and helpful.
J. S.
Wonderful people, and the food was even better. Lady told me the place had actually supplied a few things to the Mayflower.
They were certainly there when it sailed!
l. s.
Having lived in France I am always disappointed by British attemps at pastries, However had the best ever Cinnamon swirl at Jacka Bakery, Sour doughs, Pain Au Chocs and Brownies also looked amazing.
M. H.
A small and delicious piece of history in Plymouth. The food is fantastic, the service is very good, even the clientele are happy and talkative. When your patrons are consistently happy it's a great indicator of your quality. If you're in the area don't miss this gem!
C. G.
Amazing pain au chocolat and cinnamon
A. M.
Delicious seeded sourdough. And lovely pastries. Worth a visit if you are in tge area.
J. R.
Great sourdough bread and amazing pastries and cornish pasty. I'm lucky to find them 😁
C. L.
A pastry and a cup of tea from Jacka is my Friday treat with a friend. Sometimes I eat from the menu too. The food here is absolutely outstanding and a real treat right on my door step. Good and honest food from talented bakers
A. 1.
Can't forget those doughnuts 😋Coffee is really nice too! The only draw back for me is that doughnuts are not always available and I don't live close to the Barbican.
A. L.
Told this was the oldest bakery in the UK. I bought the cardamom cake and caramel polenta cake. I returned to take as many cakes home, cerry brownies, fruit tart and chocolate tarts. Coffee was incredibly good too. Negatives, no boxes for takeaway just brown bags difficult to transport back to crawley, coffee comes in a small only size. Staff were friendly food was amazing. Daily changes to menu
A. W.
I love this little bakery. To avoid disappointment, you need to get there early, as there products sell quickly. I had a Veggie Pasty on my last visit and it was surprisingly spicy but that suited my tastes.
M. M.
Outstanding bakery with amazing atmosphere.
Well behaved dogs welcome!
S.
Amazing quality sourdough bread. Also good coffee, and some cakes and deli items.
M. T.
Very popular so sells out quickly. Excellent quality sourdough bread and cakes. They also have a small selection of cheeses and cold meats staff are friendly.
D. B.
This bakery makes the best granary sourdough bread I have ever tasted. It was expensive but completely worth the fantastic tasty experience. Don't walk past this bakery without making a purchase!
M. R.
Best sourdough bread, haven't found a better one from London via Bristol. Super friendly staff and yes, they run out of food early, but that's because it's so good and fresh. Oh, and the coffee is a treat as well! Love this little gem.
L. W.
Wonderful family run bakery. They make incredible bread, pastries and cakes. They also sell delicious chutneys and local cheeses! I would highly recommend checking them out, but get there early as they sell out fast!
A. R.
Very well organised one in - one out system at the moment. Ordered two croissants and two coffees which wasn't the cheapest order totaling around £9. However, totally worth it! Fresh croissants in the morning, and the size... I'll definitely head back next weekend
D. S.
I had a piece of their Ham & Egg pie the other day and it was made on the premises and it was so delicious.
P. A.
Top level bakery! Highly recommended.
H. W.
Obsessed with their sausage rolls and pastys... great coffee, staff are lovely. Looking forward to trying everything else they have to offer.
P. B.
Fantastic coffee and Eccles cakes to die for. Jam Doughnuts are the best I have ever had, light and flavoursome. Sour dougfhg loves are big and wonderful. There is a reason there is always a queue outside, get there early though.
S. F.
We had a lovely experience today at Jacka bakery. Everything was super fresh!
The wild mushrooms, tarragon & eggs was out of this world! And my bakery was heaven!
I'm not so good with describing so I'll let the pics speak of themselves!
Oh! And I had one of the best Mocca coffees, yet I only wish they can have semi skimmed milk!
Thank
N. T.
This was an amazing place to visit although the bread is so popular you have to get in early to get some. However on a Sunday afternoon we did manage to get some Brioche rolls. The food was delicious and the service outstanding and friendly, the coffee was great too. I highly recommend the wild mushrooms on toast although the cheese toast was also delicious.
T. Y.
Simply deliciously the best. Got to weekend-breakfast visit - saturday and sunday 😊 good gf bread on order too
G. T.
Best bakery in Plymouth by a MILE! BEST BREAD BEST PASTRIES AND GREAT COFFEE ALONG WITH AMAZING TOASTIES! Get there early because they do sell out rather fast!
t. w.
Love the food and the bread is wonderful. Arrive early, the bread vanishes, I was in a queue this morning at 8.30...
N. J.
Simply the best sourdough bread and croissants in Plymouth. Great coffee too. And lovely snug dining for about just 8 people only (before COVID.)
A. C.
Bread range fabulous, cheese selection developing well, Dorset Vinney,Sharpham, Yarg, Quicke's too. Decent, quality, local meat for brekkie and eggs (bring yer old box) Family business worth supporting. Less queue in the week.
K.
Great place with delicious breads and cakes. Nice to pop in and have a delicious brownie in here on your way around the barbican. The bread is extremely popular, so get here earlier rather than later if you want a loaf.
L. i. B. O. V.
We enjoyed some traditional cornish pasties and biscuits. You can still see the old oven in the wall at the back of the bakery. We are glad that the oldest working bakery in England knows how to do things right. Everything looked delicious and what we did eat was.
B. C.
Really good bread and pastries, properly made. We've also had coffee here which is also very good. The bread does sell out quick so best go in the morning if you want to be sure.
J. E.
Fantastic bread. Easily amongst the best slice of toast I've ever tasted (I do bake my own bread😉).
Also, excellent flat-white: Costa eat your heart out.
L. H.
After eating one of their Salted Caramel Brownies, I think they have ruined me for all other brownies - it was one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had. The bread is also wonderful but make sure you get there early for a good selection as they are very popular.
K. S.
INCREDIBLE sourdough - wish I lived closer!
K. B.
Great bakery.
P. G.
The oldest functional bakery in the uk! Great breakfast, the bread is delicious and fresh and the coffee too. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. They pain au chocolate is to die for!
J. R.
Lovely, cosy place for a scrummy 'anything on toast'. Three choices of sourdough toast and I had mine topped with the wild mushroom and fried egg. Totally delicious and highly recommended. Lovely cappuccino and hot chocolate too.
C. A. R.
Lovely little bakery with artisan bread and pastries. You need to get there early, as they sell out fast.
E. S.
The best bread in Plymouth by far but sell out way too quick!
M. T.
If you are looking for high quality sourdough products, some of the biggest and most delicious pastries around and a friendly team, please do yourself a favour and visit Jacka Bakery
B. W.
Quite simply. The finest bread I have ever tasted. Anywhere in the world!
In the ten years since I have found out my gluten sensitivity prevented me eating "normal bread" even though from a proper bakery. And having eventually found The Brown Bread Company based near home in Hertford who have an excellent diverse range of tasty breads. However once you take one bite of the Jacka Sourdough Granary,White or Emmer? You are transported into another world! I grew up close to a brewery and the smells from there were of the fields, fresh cut grass, warm hops, the smell of the earth. The tastes were of chocolate, caramel, molasses, wheat. But equal to all those ingredients. The passion and skill put into every glass, every sip as in every loaf and every bite I and my lady have tasted from this "Baking Heaven" we have discovered. Lovely knowledgeable staff and wicked pot of tea and jam toast. Simply sitting down and inhaling makes you hungry.
Any chance of a fast bike to Hertford once a month?
Just walk through the door.
It's like Nania!
J. E.
Lovely bakery where I always buy amazing freshly baked bread and cakes. Great takeaway coffee too and a very friendly place in the heart of the Barbican
J.
Just the best bakery! So much love and attention goes into each of their products! Yum!
M. S.

(Translated) Small typical British restaurant, welcoming and family-friendly. A more than decent cappuccino, which they call milk and of which I've never understood the reason, and a toast made with peanut butter, honey and banana that is nothing short of phantasmagorical. To go there every day
(Original)

(Translated) Came thanks to TA, I was not disappointed: I asked for a cinnamon bun, it seemed that they had more, but they found and gave two for the price of one! Really commercial and friendly. For £2 it was huge and very good. Then their cappuccino for £2.5 was also excellent.
