This is a lovely clean tidy restaurant, staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered a lovely breakfast, it was tasty with very fresh spinach. The pot of tea filled three cups. The food arrives through a lazy susan which my son thought was amazing.

I have been going out their with my wife and at times children for over 6 years now and never disappointed (though taking away fries and Tabasco sauce was not a good move). Pan cakes with strawberry and vanilla ice cream was very refreshing and children loved it. Ours was usual three eggs omelette with cheese and tomato. Well deserved five stars and r recommended to go there if not done so yet!

The Black Forest is not very sweet which I like. Double chocolate is really sweet but tastes good. Both desserts are nice but a bit pricey. Mocha with cakes- perfect afternoon tea. Love them.

It’s a nice, interesting and beautiful place to eat. The food is delicious and very photographic ✨ The afternoon tea 🫖 was good with a nice selection of pastries 🥮 the price was great not expensive for what you get. The down side is how crowded and noisy it can get here. Which takes a way some of the enjoyment. Also the furniture 🪑 is very old which you could consider it rustic or vintage ✨but I feel it gives the place its uniqueness. The Wi-Fi is also alright and there is many options of seating where you could easily fit about 6 people which makes the place good for a group or a little celebration 🎉 they do have nice cakes 🎂 Finally the staff are very nice and accommodating!

So we visited patisserie valerie as we had been here before and enjoyed the cakes, but this time I got the impression that the man serving us would rather we had left. Why? Initially after he sat us at a table he mentioned that the kitchen had already closed (that was fine as we weren't looking for a hot meal). However he then went on to explain that he had put away all the cakes from the display cabinet. He said they'd be closing soon; the time was only 5.20pm and they did not close until 6pm. After giving us this information was he expecting us to get up and leave? Anyway I went on to order our cakes and hot drinks and noticed that he was putting all the cakes back in the display cabinet.There were also other customers that came in after us too. On previous occasions the staff were much more welcoming and friendly.

Went In for brunch, not impressed, my Eggs Benedict was tasteless, one egg fine other over cooked sauce congeled. Fruit salad consisted of melon grapes and 2 pieces of pineapple. As you can see seat I sat in has seen better days, salt shaker plastic broken and Sharpe. Air con unit looks like it's never been serviced. Toilets were nice though.

Lovely and relaxed place for a coffee and cake, or a delicious quick bite. Ideally located on a busy corner, this Patisserie Valerie offers a lovely escape from the bustle. Try out their Pecan Slice (I think it's called?) or scones with cream/jam/honey for a fab sweet treat, or the Valerie's Welsh Rarebit for a wholesome bite.

Lovely place! My friend and I went to Patisserie Valerie for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with the impeccable service. My friend and I were greeted politely. Although the time that we went was a busy, we were attended to very quickly. There was lots of staff around to speak to. The cakes and sandwiches were delicious, good value for money and well presented. We were not rushed out after eating, so a definite win! A big thank you to the lovely staff.

Every birthday in our home or with our friends we specifically go into Reading to get one of their beautiful cakes, tasty and moist, great variety and always pleased with the service. One thing though, the cakes don’t last long at all! I keep telling my wife the cakes evaporate in the fridge... that’s my story and I’m sticking with it ;-)

Nice cakes, very rich and filling so you could probably share if you haven't the biggest of appetites. Also, you get leaf tea which is a nice step up from most town centre cafes. Just try to avoid the tables near the counter as there is a lot of footfall and clattering from the service area.

I haven't been for a while and I was looking forward to having some lunch but I was disappointed that the menu had shrunk and I couldn't find anything I wanted being vegetarian. So I ended up having a scone and a pot of tea. I was a little sad as I felt the cafe had lost its friendly atmosphere 😞

Very enjoyable experience with quick and friendly staff. I can recommend the eggs Florentine and the avocado on toast. The restaurant is larger than appears from the front and normally has ample space and seating in the back.

I love the pastries and the relaxed, family friendly feel of this place. The only thing that lets Patisserie Valerie down is that although there are 3 toilets, they are all unisex. I wanted to use the loos before I left after my coffee but unfortunately each toilet was, shall we say, not really that clean, so I had to hold it in until I got home! I can't be the only lady that has wanted to use the facilities and then thought twice after seeing them? I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to have one male and one female toilet and it would certainly make it more pleasant for the females.

Went for a Groupon offer of afternoon tea for 2 on a very busy Saturday. Only had to wait 5 minutes. Reported as best Groupon tea offer by my partner. Good tower of sandwiches 2 scones each with generous cream and jam and then cakes. I do like the individual cakes they do as well which have good fillings in a classic French style.

Apart from the lovely cakes and a good service, Mr Mike Parry who was serving us kept my purse which I had accidentally dropped under the table. I was so grateful when I realised and returned to pick it up and wanted to offer him some money but he declined. I am so so grateful to him. I had cash and credit cards in my purse. Delicious food, but the place is understaffed, hence we had to go and find the waitress by ourselves. They are nice and friendly and helpful, but having too much on their hands they are unable to provide service in a timely manner. Not their fault,management should hire more people.

PROS: - great location in the middle of Reading, - lots of food and drinks to choose from (a whole fridge of cakes and treats), - two options of Cream Tea (afternoon tea for two or just scones, cream and jam for one), - scones were delicious(!), - seating outside and inside, - speedy service, - friendly staff, - you can order cakes for different occasions. CONS: - pricier if you order in rather than take away, - it's a chain and it can mean normal prices for London, but not necessarily for Reading.
