Reviews of Walnut Tree Farm - Dining & Carvery
H. B.
Brilliantly run family-orientated pub. Staff are always welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The only downside is sometimes the carvery lacks plenty of fresh veg and sides. But a wonderful restaurant with both an indoor and outdoor kids play area for all ages that myself and my family love a trip to 😊
L. N.
I usually go early on a Sunday and the food is quite good, I've never had a problem with hard or overcooked veg as in other reviews. The service and variety of food on offer is not consistent, sometimes excellent and sometimes not. Chefs aren't usually ready by 11.30am and the last time we went my husband bought a large carvery to get more meat than the standard and was given 1 slice when usually the standard is 2 slices so we had to ask nicely for more. The gravy is thick and tasty and the dauphinoise potatoes are amazing (when they have them) and I don't have to cook and just want a very quick meal so I'm quite happy with it.
J. K.
Excellent carvery. Moist turkey roast. Delicious. Gravy on tap. We appreciated the gluten free menu. It would also have been good to know whether the gravy and cauliflower cheese were gluten free. Good service. Good value.
H. B.
People need to wear masks while not on their table. But other than that the food was better (had uncooked chicken before), but they did provide a extra plate for my toddler to share out my plate. Though other parents need to read the sign of the play area where its under 5 only. We do go here a lot. At times they didn't have any puddings or even meals we wanted.
N. P.
First time to visit as a friend bought us a Gift Card. The food was wonderful. Very tasty, hot and lots of it. Infact, almost more than we could eat. Definitely no room for ice cream. A lovely relaxing afternoon. We will be back for a coffee and a cake. The cakes looked delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.
C. W.
We had an ok experience here. The food was great, but the service left a lot to be desired. Staff at the bar would start talking to their colleagues right in the middle of a conversation which we found to be very rude. For the rest of the conversation he was only really interested in his female colleague talking to him, rather than continuing our order. Not so much of a glance in our direction even when we were talking.
No one seemed that enthusiastic either, perhaps some hospitality training should be in order for your staff.
The location was convenient though, and the interior was nicely decorated. There was a place for children to play too, which was nice. A perfectly average experience, but would have been improved by staff with a bit more manners.

Amazing visit, seems like a new business since the last time I visited. New GM Shaks seemed to have given the pub the love it so deserves. I had the nachos to start and the Carvery. Hot and fast service. Much appreciated and keep up the good work.

Very busy Saturday night, mainly because of the carvery that looked excellent value.
Wife's sirloin steak was well cooked but came with peas unfortunately we had asked for salad, the chips were OK, we did get asked if all was OK but being so busy felt not worth changing. My beef and ale pie was very good, mash could have done with some (more?) butter added,
4 x rioja(medium) £34
Would use again, carvery needs trying
M. S.
Was feeling in the mood for a carvery with the husband and so came as I had heard good things. The food was great and the staff were polite and chatty as we were served by the lovely Isla who was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Would return again!
C. D.
Had a really pleasant experience and I’d definitely recommend anyone who’s in the area to check this place out. The customer service was outstanding, our waitress Isla was professional and welcoming in a way that I feel has become a rarity. Will definitely be returning.

Found on our first night as not able to eat at beef eater were stay by Found this fabulous gem by pure chance cane back every night since never had any problems with food. Staff have been nothing but helpful and friendly making you feel welcom definitely going to be coming back here on our next visit.

Came in with the husband and in-laws this Saturday with family and had an amazing time! We were served by a lovely polite waitress called Isla, our food was delicious and the atmosphere was incredible. Very much recommend, will bring the kids next time!!!
R. T.
Good food, friendly staff, and HUGE dessert portions! Yummy!!!
S. S.
Typical chain pub/restaurant serving usual fare. No complaints, good food served hot without a long wait. My pet hate is sticky tables and that was a little issue, they weren't too bad, but training staff to get the mixture of the cleaning agent right would save money as it is down to using too much detergent/disinfectant. Must say I have had much worse. I had a steak and ale pie but the ale in the pie wasn't on the pumps, strange! A lot of people ignoring COVID rules and the staff did not seem to be tackling them, disappointing! In the end would I still eat there? The answer is yes.
M. R.
If we're looking to dine out, we always head to the walnut tree. They do a good range of food and I love there carvery, I usually have gammon and its always cooked lovely. And they also do a fantastic range of desserts, my daughter and I always have a Sundae. She has Eton mess and I get crunchy munchy.
There staff are very friendly and welcoming, 3 staff members in particular gave us a great experience. We had a lovely young lady called keeley who helped us to our table and got our sauces. We were also served at the bar by a welcoming, helpful lady called Rachel and when I went and got my carvery, I was served by a polite man called ashley.
As a family friendly pub/restaurant I think there excellent👍
n. p.
Went here with my family for a meal. Food was great, our waitress Isla was so lovely and took good care of me and my family. Will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone wanting to find somewhere good to eat with great service.
C. M.
Average food, no atmosphere. Visited on a Tuesday evening. Staff ok, Keiron behind the carvery was very polite and friendly though. Not too many gluten free options on the menu and the main options had run out. Couldn't even have chips as they weren't gluten free. Won't be visiting again.
C. T.
Quick Full English Brunch before we hit the road going North from Southampton. The place was clean. The staff was very approachable. It was a refreshing morning to spent here indeed!
G. C.
I have had carvery lunches here for several Saturdays now.Paula is an excellent front of house/hostess...and many of the staff are welcoming and very helpful.Today 9th April Kieron was carving the meat...he was chatting with my friend Pru and I...he has a very good way with customers. There is always a cheerful atmosphere here.
This place is a Blessing to Southampton.
C.
When I first started going here the food and place was lovely. Sadly the more I’ve been I’ve noticed the cleanliness has slipped and the food doesn’t seem to be as tasty as it was. It’s a shame as I use to really enjoy going there for my carvery.
M. B.
Had a nice carvery meal with my family today Staff were really nice smiling being helpful, although the person serving the carvery you could tell he was not enjoying his job.
There was an elderly couple on the table near us saying things about every one obviously goes to the walnut tree to do a comontry..
M. P.
Second time in a week I went for breakfast, And although the selection is ok the food is dry and the coffee luke warm at best.
You can bounce the black pudding and eggs the toast crumbled into dust when eating, there was no jam avaliable. The plates were grabby and some had food still stuck to them, also the cutlery was similar and the fork was bent out of shape.
J. J.
Really good customer service! Rachel served me on the till we had 2 carverys and Bradley on carvery was amazing lovely young man gave us service with a smile! Will be returning.
R. M. J.
I Was supposed to collect a To good to go order, but was told it was a mistake on their part to advertise the item. Lady manager very kindly offered me a carvery as compensation. Very good experience so kind!!
K. G.
Just thought I would try out The Walnut Tree pub as my daughter Ellie recently started working there and I am very pleased!! I would like to say Thankyou to Brad and all the kitchen staff for the amazing carvery and Aaron and Tayla on the bar. Will definitely be coming again 💖
J. J.
First time visiting here and it’s a hidden gem! The food and staff were amazing with a mention to Isla who brought me and my family’s meals out and made sure everything was perfect, which it was. Will definently recommend and will be back soon!
d. t.
Wow what a great day out! Our food was speedy thanks to a young lady named Isla, and it was delicious too so props to the cooks! will be telling the rest of the family about this place
t. t.
Been here a few times with my family, we absolutely love it the food is amazing we've never had any problems with the food or the service definitely be going back soon.
M. C.
Meal was excellent.had chicken and ribs no complaints. Carvery was excellent. Would recommend. Definitely go back
n. h.
It was really good, first time been here, not bad. I would recommend the chicken strips and beer battered onion rings they were really good and tasty
O. B.
really lovely place, amazing food, customer service is excellent! Isla ( the worker ) was very helpful and was always there for customers needs!! Very impressed!
B. M. S.
Had a great experience whilst at the Walnut Tree farm, especially the staff, in particular a staff member called Isla. She made myself and my family feel very welcome :) Throughly enjoyed my time at your establishment!
s. h.
The food here is amazing the whole family enjoyed everything. The staff are also lovely with an honourable mention to Isla who made our experience all the better!
l. m.
lovely evening meal with my husband, was greeted by friendly staff and food was served by a lovely lady called Isla who ensured we had everything we needed. food was beautiful so will definently return
B. B.
Such a great experience, my family was served by Isla and she was lovely, I could tell it was busy so the food did take a wile but so worth the wait, can’t wait to come back here
F. A.
Amazing service, lovely, friendly staff. Overall great experience. Lovely waitress called Isla served us and was very positive and friendly.
P. A.
Gorgeous food at exceptionally low prices with great service and friendly staff. A superb family location for hungry people. Highly recommend.
c. j.
Great pub great food but they need to sort out the service at the bar 15 to 25 mins stood in a line every night waiting to order food
S. M.
Had a lovely meal here for Father’s Day, food was great and the staff were very friendly especially the lovely Isla who was very polite and bubbly.
G. P.
The Walnut Tree Farm is a clean, friendly place.
Excellent food, including a small selection of vegetarian options.
The food portions are large, in fact my partner and my mum order the fish platter and ended up taking quite a lot of theirs home.
I'm vegetarian, there wasn't a huge choice, but I had mushroom pie, the filling was very nice but the pastry wasn't great, so I left it, the chips and mushy peas were very good
We ordered giant eclairs to take away and were completely shocked when they weren't bakery size but easily a foot long, not fresh cream, they are filled with very sweet custard and synthetic cream, too much even for two people.
Wheelchair accessible, don't know what the toilets are like, but I would imagine properly accessible, taking the whole venue into account.
Some of the staff are great, very helpful, very chatty, some not so much, overall good experience, would definitely go back.
Only disappointment was when we were given a receipt with an offer for mothers day, but you had to book online for the offer, unfortunately there were no bookings available throughout the website, neither could we book over the bar, apparently they can only book so many tables, then you have to turn up and take your chances.
When you want to book for 2 wheelchair users, one of whom has dementia and Alzheimer's, and 2 able bodied, but not 100% fit in your party, it is difficult to just turn up and wait for a table, especially when its busy, not all tables are accessible, getting people to move once they're settled and eating is not fair.
The Sat Nav on phone got a bit confused, but we found the Walnut tree eventually.
J. D.
Food was amazing came quickly and hot , we’re aswell drinks and Isla the waiter very polite and lovely would go there again
E. R.
Quite busy, good service, meals quite a good size, nicely cooked and presented. On the down side, menus were quite sticky and dirty.
S. F.
Visit on a regular basis to enjoy the breakfast, sometimes not as hot as expected, but still quite palatable.
Lesley always willing to help and freshen up what is required, fresh toast and butter so for service 5 stars
Bring back Lesley!
29/4/2022 08.10
Back for breakfast and what a disaster! Despite having to wait, eventually the cook brought out the fried eggs, unable to slide the spatula under the eggs or tipping the tray, pushed each one on with his fingers!
Several complaints from those at the front, when I asked what he thought he was doing just shrugged his shoulder and said thats the way.
Hate to think what he does in the kitchen!!
Decided not to have eggs, no toast ready, in fact looks like none of the staff really knew what should be done.
Bring back Lesley is all I can say, at least the job gets done correctly
A. B.
The experience was really nice brilliant food and our waitress Isla was so helpful and polite definitely go again
P. F.
The pub has a friendly vibe.
Lesley was pleasant and went out of her way to look after us at breakfast service.
F. C.
Had a meal and drinks here. Really nice and fast, friendly service from our waitress Isla. Will def be back.
C. T.
First time to the Walnut and firstly I would recommend booking. Its very busy on a friday evening and I would guess a saturday too. The host on the evening, initially said she was struggling to find a table. Then she walked away to find anything she had, came back and said, I have found a table if you can wait 5 minutes (amazing!). We sat down and throughout the evening, she was making sure we were alright, a very personal service and unfortunately I cant remember her name but she is an asset to the team!
Great food, great service. Great prices and such a large and hearty selection available for both main and carvery!
K. B.
Really enjoyed the carvery with the family. Food was very good quality and staff service was excellent
b. o.
food was amazing! waitress isla was lovely and super helpful, would definitely recommend!
m. b.
Great atmosphere! Food is great! And the people and staff are extremely friendly. Check out the cakes on offer! WOW! very large slice for a small price! Wife had the Sunday roast, I had the all day breakfast.. Absolutely delicious!! Puddings here are insane! Asked for the apple pie and custard... Thinking a slice of pie etc... Nope! Got a huge pie and custard! Woow!! Try and find that anywhere else? Trust me you wont!! The apple pie and custard was only £4!! Massive...Great place to come along, great staff! Great prices!!... Disabled friendly and access to the front door very easily obtained, what you waiting for!!? 5*
F. V. R.
Experience was great, and the staff were lovely! Especially Isla, she gave the best service and couldn’t be happier x
l. w.
amazing atmosphere, when i went the other day staff were so friendly, especially isla who was extremely lovely and warm during my visit! will definitely be coming again soon!
M. H.
Carvery was ok, meat and vegetable choices excellent, best bit by far was the coffee and walnut cake and lemon cheesecake that we took away. Friendly staff and decent main menu if you don't want the carvery.
G. G.
Good grub, cheap and cheerful. It does get busy and on a busy day you can be waiting upto 20 minutes to order your food at the bar. The app doesn't work as the signal is shocking. The staff are friendly enough but busy. Food is always hot.
S. H.
Fantastic meal. First visit but will def not be our last! Service amazing, everywhere kept very clean. And the food was out of this world. Couldnt manage desert but bought some home 😁
R. O.
Love the ambience. A children's play area while waiting for the main to arrive or after to burn off some energy.
Very kind and lovely staff.
Great food by the way!
M. S.
great service here! food is beautiful! shoutout to isla who made our experience all the better!
B. D.
Where to start. This place is a must. Every member of staff when we visited were lovely from seating to moving our table , service of food, we had the carvery, which was huge and delicious, all delivered with friendly smiles and chat. But we couldn't go without mentioning Cake away the take out cake we chose many but our fave the huge Eclair 😃 definitely worth a visit if on holiday this end.
A. B.
My waitress was Isla she was really helpful and polite, great service really enjoyed my time.
A. M.
Good value for money, however my vegetarian daughter was given a steak and ale pie instead of the veggie one she ordered. Meal was credited back to her though so fair play for that. Thankfully it didn’t spoil her evening.
Edit: she was given her vegetarian pie to take home in a box, which was a nice gesture so thank you Wayne the chef who couldn’t apologise enough. No harm done and we will be back.
R. S.
Absolutely fantastic, meals were great. Things did sometimes come out a little slow but the place was always busy so this was to be expected.
S. P.
This was the first time I went to Walnut Tree and was really excited about eating there. It took over 1hour for our food to arrive, mine personally was lovely but others had ordered fish & chicken drumstick & they looked like they had been in the oven for days (really dreadful), waiters/waitresses answered every question with "you need to go to the bar". I have given it 3 starts because for me the cakes saved the day, absolutely beautiful and massive portions. Maybe it was just a bad day........ unsure for now
M. P.
Fab food fantastic carvery.....good service great value nice atmosphere
M. M.
Hit and miss with this place. If you go whens it's quite, service is great, food is hot and plentiful and well priced. When busy the system seems to fall apart abit and can leave you frustrated. Will not stop me going back I will just be proactive when deciding on my times to attend.
J. C.
Busy place lots of kids. No mash at the carvery. Portions not the biggest. But kids eat for a £1. So cheep enough not to worry about the mash.
L. R.
fantastic carvery and fantastic service from the loveky Isla. will most definitely come again
S. P.
I like to thank all of the staff for making my little sister 18th birthday special she had the most amazing day
K. L.
I was taken to The Walnut Tree Farm carvery for my birthday. We enjoyed a lovely carvery and ice cream after and we both found the staff to be cheerful, helpful and friendly. We will revisit again one day.
L. B.
We had family come down to see us and I forgot to book a meal so rushed around to try and find somewhere to eat with no luck all booked and remembered seeing this pub once it is about 30 minutes away from us so tried our luck and called the restaurant and a lady called Paula answered the phone she was so helpful and within one hour a group of 10 of us was sat down eating dinner and what a great dinner it was I would like to thank Paula and the team for a great evening the pub was nice and clean and food was great
S. W.
Great food and atmosphere very family orientated. Just hope one day the roast potatoes might be cooked correctly they are vile. But if you want safer option I'd recommend the new potatoes. Desserts are on another level here amazing and on the extra large side. You might need 2 or 3 attempts to eat an entire slice. But rest assured if you can't you can take it with you for later.
E.
Friendly staff. Great food. Lovely play areas for the kids! Definitely the best carvery around! Thankyou to the lovely lady who was working the end nearest to the carvery this evening and for the chef who was serving! Both were friendly and happy and provided such a great service! Wish i got your names so you got a proper mention but im sure you know who you are 🌟🌟 (friday 26th November around 8pm)
T. A.
Enjoyed our meal here. Both of us had the carvery, and especially the parsnips, all was well done
J.
Nice roast dinner with vegetarian option. Desserts looked amazing but very big. Good value for money.
P. M.
Food was great quality for the price and had fantastic service from the staff. This was the best experience I have had in this pub.
M. M.
Always a pleasure, carvery nice enough for mass produced but I do wish they had a separate drinks queue, its so annoying to queue behind 20 people all ordering food when all you want is a coffee
k. b.
Lovely carvery, plenty of room when seated, service could do with being a bit better waited a long time after finishing main but the food made up for it
P. M.
me and my family came here for an afternoon meal on sunday, which was lovely! we were served by isla who was extremely helpful with everything and made our experience great, will definently return :)
D. C.
friendly bar staff and kitchen staff if they are about. its good depending on what time of the day you go, catch it wrong and its terrible you wait ages for fresh food to come out.
T.
Even with a busy restaurant everyone serving and working today were so friendly and helpful, every portion of food we had was enormous!
C. C.
Thanks to Lesley and Paula for putting smile on our faces this morning. I do feel honor bound to apologise for the side order of black pudding with a vegi breakfast but it was lovely.
k. b.

So nice there, good staff and parking, food is really good x

Excellent place for a carvery Sunday Lunch. Good value for money and very helpful staff. Would have got 5 stars if they hadn't run out of Cheesecake!!

Fantastic service from the gang at the Walnut. We had been up all night with our sick dog and thought a cooked breakfast would set us up for the day. To find out the breakfast service was closed due to a private function. Fair enough. I think the look on our faces made the Manager run out and ask us to come in & did us a takeaway breakfast. What amazing & refreshing service in this day & age. True legends. Well done guys
J. W.
Very nice meal but vegetables could have been cooked a while longer.
K. C.
Food was good but we had to wait in queue too long to order.
J. M.
Service fairly quick but food quality just okay
D. F.
A good family pub, plenty of parking easy to get to with a excellent kids entertainment area. Staff are pretty busy as lots of families there. Food is excellent however not all of the items are available on the menu and took a long time to come out.
S. P.
Good service and the food was excellent value 👌
W. K.
Can’t really fault the place at all, foods great and Isla was really really helpful, definitely going back
J. H.
My daughter very kindly treated me to a Sunday lunch. Very good value for money. We had a 'take out' which was perfectly wrapped individually and piping hot when we git home. Will definitely go there again.
G. S.
I am never disappointed when I come here, the food is exceptional, the fish supper truly is a 2 course meal in its self. Cooked to perfection.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and also quite knowledgeable.
The cakes are sublime, had the caramel fudge cake this time and it was beautiful. Very rich, but that is clear before you even buy it, so not for the faint of heart. The Mars attax is pretty tasty too.
If you are stuck for somewhere to eat nearby I would definitely recommend this place.
Also very good for those with kids as there is a little kids play area at the far end of the building inside.
T. “. C.
Excellent food and staff that can't do enough for you. I just going to keep going back
R. L.
Great food as always but didn't have so many desserts this time as the fridge had been broken.
A. M.
it was a good place for food but it was not anything special to be honest
C. s. F.
Very spacious inside and out with a great carvery.
S. B.
Good prices. Plenty of choice. Reasonable prices. Plus only around the corner from Home.
D. W.
Good food, friendly staff, great place to meet and eat. Loving the new range of cakeaway especially the very welcome return of the millionaire shortbread. Also looking forward to trying the
bannofee flan next time if in stock ;-)
p. h.
Service was really good, Isla was great help, will definitely be back!!!
J. W.
We walked in after a day at Peppa pig land it was busy as could be. The front of House Amber was excellent, she didn't bat an eyelid and was able to fit us in .fantastic service. The food was excellent, the carvery spot on .We were fed and watered to the brim left with smiles and praise for all the staff we met. Firmly recomend coming to Walnut tree farm for a great meal with great people.
s. h.
Average roast dinner. Large selection of veg. All looked fresh. Had good selection of new joints of meat when we came at 4.30pm. Couple of very good staff working and greeter did her job well. Some staff messing around tho with what I think was a non working member of staff who had come in for food. Only gripe was staff uniforms looked tad old and some not.good fit. There for gives off scruffy vibe to the place.
N. M.
Breakfast buffet, great value, only go up once unless you can eat like your doing a man vs food challenge don't pay for the large breakfast, it's a waste of money, you get nothing extra just a bigger plate to put the food on.
Food quality was OK, the scrambled eggs were bland and flavourless, the fried eggs looked great but were way over done.
Staff, friendly enough when engaging with them, but all looked very unhappy to be there and we despite booking a table, and it being quite it took nearly 10mins for someone to pay us any attention and seat us when we arrived.
J. B.
Great meals, friendly staff, and mouth watering Home made deserts
Great value for money,
Adult area, and children friendly area with activities to keep kids entertained,
A. t.
Food is amazing and service is great and a good play area for kids
T. N.
Great pub but need to update their website for the correct kitchen closing time which is 9pm and not 10pm.
P. P.
Excellent place for a carvery Sunday Lunch. Good value for money and very helpful staff. Would have got 5 stars if they hadn't run out of Cheesecake!!
S. O.
Food was delicious. Service very good too. I had a fit like alwaysxwhen eating but I warned them and all went well. I dont think I've every eaten a carvery so fast but it was delicious!!
D. Y.
Loved food...Lovely people. Our second day, first job waitress was exceptional.
A. S.
Great place. Great food, great price. Kudos for doing the kids eat for a pound during the school holiday. If you don't need to have your kids eating for a pound why not donate for a family that does.
Cannot praise the staff highly enough, polite, engaging, good with the children. Visiting whilst in holiday. Post polton park/Peppa pig world, please fill up before heading home!!!
J. P.
I can't recommend this venue enough. Food was amazing and the portions are very generous. Using the app to order is a must! It automatically searches for any relevant offers and applies them for you. You get an automated email with your order itemized, brilliant for those who forget what they have ordered. I will definitely visit again.
N. C.
Been here on mañy occasions, good lighting feels cosy.Carvery second to none moist vegetables not dry as you so often get.Good choices with all menu.
Desserts to die for.
Friendly staff help and cheerful
Price very reasonable.
Highly recommended.

Carvery was absolutely bang on, staff was great. Terry on the carvery spot on sound bloke. Lady taking out order behind the bar was brilliant our little girl is full of allergies and she helped sort out her food. 5*
L. A.
Service a little slow but staff very friendly and it was an extremely hot day.
Food as usual delicious, portion size huge - One happy dog when we got home!
Go again - definitely.
Recommend - definitely

we ate here twice last weekend, both for lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Lesley was our server on both occasions. we had an elderly disabled relative with us and all our needs asked for when booking were meticulously provided. service was very friendly and extremely efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for Lesley and the team. we will see you again soon for sure. Thanks Lesley for all your help and efficiency

Nice food with decent outdoor areas, with a small play area for kids
m. c.
Is a pleasure to visit for a while, food is always good and the carvery is well stocked and so appealing. Unfortunately can get busy because of this. Still a good choice for a cheeky Saturday drink.
W. G.
We picked the outdoors area indoors to have a drink while keeping an eye on the children playing. Drinks were served quickly at the bar with a courteous service. We will come back here again.

Beautiful carvery all round also quite a big slice of cake too 🤣
T.
Food was wonderful . Big potions. Cakes to die for had to take ours away . Staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyable evening had by all .
B.
Great food but can get really busy. Desserts are epic!
P. C.
The best thing about this place was one member of staff who by the way I would marry in an instant made the meal great with her customer skills and vibrancy would definitely go back
B. S.
Amazing service lovely employee called Isla made the experience so wonderful. Big thanks to her
P. L.
So nice there, good staff and parking, food is really good x
N. U.
Good food. The play area is near the tables so little people can play while being watched while the big people gossip and eat..the cakes are huge. And are very tasty.
S. S.
Lots of staff but seemed to be chatting and not doing a lot (forgot our cutlery, napkins). They'd also run out of a lot of food. Guessing they were a lot more busy than the previous weekends they had been open. The food was nice and hot on arrival and the kids liked the play area.
l. t.
I went out for my birthday meal with family. Daughter-in-law booked a table for 4 adults and 4 children. We had table service but it still took an hour to get our meal. So we didn't bother with any deserts. I appreciate it was very busy but this time round it was disappointing. Sorry but it's gone down hill since last time.
A. A.
had a lovely time Isla was so helpful made us feel welcome
r. h.
Good meal, parked up at Lidl RDC. So 5mim walk away. £6.50 for standard carvery and about 3quid a pint.
S. M.
Heard horror stories that due to low deliveries most items off menu but we had Great Pub food, plenty of everything, price of food & drink was good, enjoyed our evening and walked back to our Holliday Inn express hotel ideal for attending our friends wedding & visiting around the area.
D. S.
Had a very nice meal would be happy to eat there again.
A. G.
Excellent carvery but no coffee available.
A. R.
I love this place. It’s my first choice now for a carvery. The food is great with lovely staff and a nice atmosphere. Sadly we couldn’t come for new year but I was quickly contacted and refunded my deposit and have even been sent a £10 voucher to use when we can return. Thank you :)
j.
I mistakenly gave you a bad review for another place that I visited that weekend. I have amended the rating accordingly and have nothing but praise for your food, atmosphere and most importantly staff. Pub food like no another and cakes to die for.
T. K.
Amazing pub!! Friendly staff and tasty food!!
S. H.
Everything about this place is spot on. Great carvery & nice atmosphere, all good!
L. B.
Lovely food and plenty of it. Filled me up but I have brought home a lovely cake to eat later. Yummy
K. T.
Cakes are huge and divine! Love coming here as a treat with family for the roasts and cake.
G. D.
Staff are great, and the food is great. Well worth the visit. As much as you can eat breakfast for near on £6.00,
R. M.
Friendly staff. Food was good but different from a Toby carvery in that you can't help yourself to veg and potatoes which I prefer. Nevertheless overall a enjoyable experience.
C. F.
Great staff, polite and hard working. Really good carvery, excellent, my favourite is the pork and gamon. Always worth the large portion. Thank you
M. N.
Great place to have a carvery shame the day we went only had two meats to choose from
S. R.
Very good but untrained bar staff messed up our order
H. P.
Went by bus 🚌to see how to get there for Christmas Dinner with family👨👩👦.
Had a small snack with a pint very enjoyable. Lovely place to eat and drink. Big place.❤️❤️❤️👍😍👍👌
M. L.
Great value for the afternoon Lunch or Carvery. Good all round menu and selection of beverages. Also good to take the family
K. M.
Very clean. Social distancing between tables could have been better but that could just have been where we were sat, less than metre Staff were very helpful. Food was very good, we used the app and it was extremely easy to order. Only disappointment was not being able to order the Banoffee Sundae to take out.
L. B.
The atmosphere was nice and the food is really nice, but we had to wait for almost an hour for our food when the place was even somewhat busy.
L. B.
Nice food although felt rushed to leave
S. S.
Great place 4 children stay and play while you chill, food good, and staff great
H. J.
Great service. The food was amazing. The staff were helpful. I'd definately recommend the walnut tree.
S. S.
Friendly staff, reasonably priced good food and plenty of free parking
V. W.
Nice traditional English carvery with professional and friendly staff
C. F.
Not too bad, the food could be more cooked.
r. s.
Very quiet in afternoon food lovely only thing wrong Christmas tree up
M. D. O.
Great portion sizes for the price. Nice family atmosphere. Great friendly service.
T.
Nice large space and 1 way systems in place, however they still decided to seat everyone in the same area. The place was clean and tidy and we'll sign posted. The food was fantastic and the option for the ultimate drinks is worth it! Big free car park too.
C. F.
A large spacious pub restaurant with the best carvery around with 3 different prices plus plenty of other food options.
H. S.
Great for young children and food was better than expected. Reasonable prices and good range on the menu. Plenty of parking and wish I had sampled a dessert.
It was v loud due to the kids playing in doors and the toilets were quite dirty. Only 2 female toilets and 1 did not have a lock.
t. C.
Took ages for a sandwich to arrive, excellent when it did, ordered on the app my wife just wanted a starter, so they treated my sandwich as a main course, funny idea when 2 drinks are ordered you would think they could work out it's 2 people eating.
A. B.
Very busy 1st class carvery and service.
M. F.
If you’re looking for great value food, with something for everyone and somewhere for the kids to be amused then this is your place! The carvery is great, but there is also a large menu. There are two sections of the restaurant, one for no children and one for families, with a play area to keep the little ones entertained when waiting for food! Kids get a free ice cream/sorbet with each meal too, plus the cakes are overwhelmingly good and massive! Fab place for a young family, at any time of day.
H. M.
great place, isla was particularly helpful and accommodating!
T. B.
Had such a lovely meal and Rui was particularly fabulous! Really helpful and friendly. Food was great! Will definitely come again!
A. C.
I went for to the walnut for dinner with friends. The track and trace thing was really annoying... at least they us get seated whilst we completed the track and trace
Whilst i waited to be served for a carvery, I was kindly greeted by Terry (I think his name was) he thanked me for waiting and asked if I had any Allergies, even though I do not he was super nice about it.
As this was my first time ever eating a roast carvery in Southampton he briefly explained to me the different cuts of meat, and then once upon the vegetable section - he even took the time to explain all the available options and some of the nutritional values of the red cabbage!
I did ask Terry if Gamon meat was available but he apologised and explained Walnut was not serving Gamon at this time, he then offered me an extra Yorkshire pudding to make me feel better! He then carried my plate and helped me get seated to my friends then took care of all of our extra requests (sauce, napkins, ect)
Overall the food was very good but In the end I didn't really enjoy the red cabbage, but that's my bad
So sad didn't get to try the big eclair
The food is pretty good but I think what will defenately keep me coming back is Terry, my first roast was so huge! Hopefully next time when I come in he is there, or even the next person serving is as nice as he is.
L. D.
Lovely food, great choice. Good fun for children. Immense deserts plus a cakeaway option. Amazing!
M. B.
Lovely meal, lovely polite staff and helpful with dietary requirements too. Coped brilliant with a big party.
H. W.
Great atmosphere and great food! Would definitely recommend. We went for the Sunday carvery, and it did not disappoint! 5 stars *****
S. P.
Very nice and filling meal stadff were excellent

Very good food and big portion

We arrived at 2.30pm on a Sunday afternoon it was so busy which was to be expected. The male member of staff took our name for 10 people and said it could be an hour. We were lucky it only took half hour to get table, he was very helpful and friendly . The length of time to order drink and then food was very long. It was incredibly hot in the restaurant as well , could have done with air conditioning on or heating off. The food was very nice and couldnt fault that apart from one error one order of steak came covered in cheese and bacon by mistake, the older female waitress sorted it out promptly they were given free cake to compensate. One thing i would say the childrens plates came out so so hot you could not touch them. Nice food. Friendly staff but too hot.
P. P.
Excellent venue. Amazing value for money, and food as great as the service itself. Perfect for families as there is an indoor and outdoor play are for kids.
D. C.
Easy parking, great food weather you go for carvery or off the menu. Great desserts too, plenty of space for the kids to play and keep entertained
b. v.
The Carvery is the BEST. The Cheesecakes are even better. Plus if you've over eaten you can get your Cheesecake or other cake / desserts to take away. BONUS !!!!
•. n. •.
Waitress Isla is very nice and helpful
C. T.
If you love deserts this is the place but save room, they are huge! Doggy boxes available to take away, you'll need it :)
s. p.
Fantastic evening, with amazing friends. Rui made it that extra bit special by going the extra mile and making the evening more enjoyable.
A. H.
Visited for Sunday Roast again. Great dinner apart from the cardboard tasting Yorkshire pud! Thought we would go for the Ultimate roast with a huge pud. I guess they are not ordered often because it was hard and stale. Will still go back because the staff are great. Proper roast potatoes etc... not frozen which is good for a place that big!!!
E. J.
It's true, you get what you pay for! Food was average and the children's pizza was clearly a microwave pizza.
Staff seemed very stressed and were not particularly friendly.
The dessert was the best part of the meal and was a very good size portion.
I wouldn't recommend here if you are looking for a high standard, formal family meal.
S. O.
Incredible place. The dishes are American size. Try a dessert !!!!
K. D.
Absolutely adore this pub. The carvery is always on point, but if you're not feeling a roast they also have a great menu. A great ice-cream and cake selection for anyone with a sweet tooth.
The prices are cheap and the food is always good. There is an area for children to play, inside and out.
A+ pub, great for a family meal or just can't be bothered cooking.
J. J.
Lovely food and the staff were lovely too. A very friendly place to go to and we found the staff really helpful. The carvery was really good and you have the option of three different sizes. There were three different meats you could have and a good selection of vegetables to have with your roast. We couldn't find fault with our visit and we could see ourselves coming back.
R. D.
Great carvery, huge desert options (too big if anything). Excellent value for money
P. C.
Lovely meal on the whole but....half hard carrott although most cut in small rounds & more brocolli stump than brocolli & spuds not crispy roast as skins soft & more burnt like but all edible
M. W.
Food was good , unfortunately service was only mediocre, drinks arrived 30 minutes after ordering, after we had asked where they were, food came sporadically, meaning we essentially ate separately, we heard others moaning about the same, and had to ask each time for our order to be taken . Shame as the food is decent , but the service level would mean we are unlikely to return
J. M.
A large purpose built eatery, with standard carvery plus a la carte offering. It gets very busy early evenings, leading to long queues at the bar and frustration amongst the patrons. The staff handle this well and serve as quickly as they can, with good humour. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the carvery which is good value. There is a separate family seating area but at busy times, adults only parties may be seated there. That wasn't s problem for us as we visited after 8pm, when there were fewer children about.
J. G.
Went for a retirement do with five friends. This was my first visit so didn't know what to expect. I had the large carvery which was huge! They gave me a box to take what I couldn't eat away with me which was a nice touch. The others had steak which they said was nice.
The puddings were amazing and very big. The strawberry cheesecake was a huge serving too which someone took home what they couldn't finish in a box. Had to try the cake which was also huge as well and was able to take home as well.
All in all a great establishment and even though it was busy for a Saturday evening we were able to find a table and the staff were helpful, friendly and kind without being over attentive and intrusive.
Would recommend and go again soon.
N. H.
Great value pub food. Well cooked and lots of options for smaller meals. Took my elderly Aunt who doesn't want a big meal
K. Z.
Great food warm and cosy great friendly atmosphere and happy staff
V. T.
I'd read numerous reviews of this place before, some good, but a lot quite negative about waiting times and staff attitude, so I went with little expectation. I was pleasantly surprised though, yes the staff are a bit ditzy and slow, but they're all young and it's probably their first job. The food is good, for standard pub fayre, reasonably priced and there is lots of it. With the carvery seven days a week and a full menu to there is something there for everyone. Giant desserts and a selection of ice cream flavours round off the meal nicely and if you aren't bothered by the busyness of the decor and the potential noise from the kids area you'll find it a decent dining experience that is value for money.
d. a. p. j.
it seemed weird not helping yourself but liked it way better to be fair very tasty n fresh loved the veg perfect dont change anything x
J. H.
We went there with our 4yo daughter.
The carvery was good, veg was tasty and there is range of size plate so you feel you are not paying over. The ice cream and cake selection is good. Price was good.
There is a kids and adult area, so in the kids area we didn't feel we were disturbing others and she could go run in the okay area. (The kids area still feels like normal pub dining).
The kids area is good to let our daughter burn off steam.
The only downside was the kids meal. The pizza and garlic bread, the pizza was obviously just one of those chicargo town micro pizza and it was a bit poor for £5 for that and ice cream.
But if you've got an active kid but looking for somewhere to meet and have a meal this is a good bet.
D. B.
Wonderful service. There was a mix up with my food and they couldnt have been more apologetic or quick to correct it. Very happy with the service as I have aspergers and get super anxious when anything unexpected crops up.
New vegan burger is excellent! Looking forward to trying more from the vegan menu next time!
S. D.
Massive eatery. Divided into a family area and an adults (over 12s) area. Luckily our boy is 12 and we were seated straight away (a bit of a wait for families as it was peak time on a Saturday). Food was ordered and arrived within a few minutes. Very impressed. No loss in quality due to speed of service either.
G. M.
Great carvery and an awesome (indoor and outdoor) play area for the little ones!
D. F.
Went on a family lunch with relatives from Southampton. It is a relatively new building with lots of car parking. There is a straightforward menu plus a carvery. We had a table for ten. Lovely staff. Helpful and friendly. Carvery was really nice. Three sizes. Small, medium and large. I had medium and it was plenty for me. Nice and clean and tidy as were the toilets. Nice experience.
M. C.
Was really busy but the floor staff were very accommodating. Can't say the same for the woman behind the bar who was unhelpful and took great delight in telling us most of our food order was unavailable.
We arrived around 5.30 pm on Sunday, the carvery was delicious.
My only criticism is I don't think young children should be allowed up to the carvery. There were a couple in front of us missmanaging the sauces and picking up veg with there fingers....!
P. R.
Family meal out. Last minute phone call to the Walnut Tree. The carvary looked as it tasted loverly. Empty plates all round. A pleasure to go and eat there. Thank you.
e. w.
First impression.
clean tidy.
Menus vast choice and carvery.
Quality prices. And good service time.
I would revisit if I was in area.
Staff polite and welcoming.
Quiz night is bonus, livens up place when diners are leaving. Quiz for all.
Thumbs up from me.
G. S.
My favourite carvery. Great selection of veggies and also a salad bar. The puddings are out of this world, the caramel waffle cheesecake is by far the best. Great portion sizes for the price paid. Can get busy here and they don't seem to take reservations.
S. G.
Always guaranteed a good meal here. The food is nice, the desserts are delicious & the bonus is you can take dessert home if you are too full after dinner. Staff are friendly and ensure you are happy during your meal. I tend to avoid during busy times as I feel the atmosphere and service is a lot better when less busy.
P. R.
Lovely evening with friends to celebrate two birthdays - apparently unable to pre book table for large group - however we were accommodated. All bar one member of staff were polite and attentive - one member of staff however needs to learn customer service skills instead of shouting rude remarks towards customers and staff alike not a very good advocate for the restaurant and let's down all the other staff.
Food was great and large portions- puddings to go.
M. W.
Very nice choice on the menu. Plenty to come back and try. First time of trying and was great value for money. Will definitely be back.
T.
What great little gem. This is a fantastic family pub. With two under two we always find it difficult to find a place that accommodates us, and the walnut tree farm does this. We have always been happy with the carvery, which is a great price, the selection of desserts are mouth watering, there is a small play area to entertain our toddler, the staff are helpful and the best part is that people who go there seem to understand what it's like to have children. I'm sure we will see you soon.
P. D.
Visited lunchtime weekday. Must have picked good day since carvery was excellent and our experience was very good and not as reported recently by others. Quality, quantity of food was excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were both polite and efficient serving our food within the time framework we were told when we arrived. Place is comfortable but indoor play area could be better - too many pay operated rides but overall good place to take family, grandchildren and all.
m. r.
Good food friendly staff sticky tables 😋
J. S.
Come here a lot as the food is good and staff are friendly. Went yesterday for my birthday with friends and family and last orders was at 9pm and we were told we had to leave by 9.30 as they were shutting. Bit disappointing as we had to rush our drinks. Twice before on a monday and Tuesday the bar has shut at 9pm too, checked the website and it says shuts at 11pm. Maybe will just come if we are having a meal during the day.
A. G.
This is what it is and if no one expects more than it claims to be, then they are going to be deservedly disappointed. Great food at great value, we were a group of 13 elderly people and the staff couldn't have more helpful and friendly. Brilliant guy at the Carvery. We really enjoyed a day out and a good "Sunday Roast" on a Saturday. All at such a reasonable price and even the Espresso, though a bit overfull, was pretty good (that's coming from an Italian) and I actually drank it!. I was glad I didn't have the Eton Mess which did not resemble one. The dessert portions are HUGE so be ready to share. Apart from our anxiety about not being able to actually book the table at weekends, we had no complaints at all.
S. H.
Lovely meal, plenty of choice of vegetables, staff courteous & helpful. Nice atmosphere. Even though they were really busy, table found with no fuss. Great experience. Thank you.
s. f.
Really good carvery 13 different veggies to choose from and 4 joints. Other menu available too. Puddings are amazing always take them home as to full after carvery. Garden has play area for kids and also indoor play space with consoles for kids to play on. Staff friendly and polite. Clean and tidy. They do a pub quiz on Wednesday night also good fun.
S. E.
Had a meal with a friend. Asked for vinegar for our chips, this is how it came! Is this a hygiene thing? Couldn't really sprinkle it, so had to pour it. So had drenched chips. Otherwise, a nice meal.
I. M.
Very nice meal,worth the money.
D. G.
The food and service was very good, we have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed
A. m.
Lovely place but gets very busy, good choice menu with a carvery at one end of the pub. The puddings are huge and worth every penny be prepared to take the large cake home they'd be more then happy to give you a box for this. Nice friendly staff always very attentive.
M.
This was my first visit to Walnut Tree Farm, and all in all it was a pleasant enough trip.
We visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the place was very busy so it's clearly a popular place and understandably it was quite noisy with lots of children playing in the play area.
The carvery was well stocked with four different meat options and a vegetarian choice alongside at least 7 different vegetables, overall they were all well cooked and all the food looked fresh on the hot plates.
I don't have any real critisms of the place, it was affordable and reasonably good food, but if you're looking for a quite place for a meal you might want to sit at the far side of the restaurant away from the indoor play area so you're not disturbed by the children.
S. S. (.
It was ok. I was recommended by a friend. It's kind of strange as all drinks and food orders have to go through the bar and at peak times this means queuing for ages, even if you only want a glass of water. Strange as they have servers and wait staff who bring food to the table anyway.
The carvery is ok, except the line is huge, the roast potatoes are just plain terrible. Not crispy at all and hard to cut through. The meat and veg was fine. Yorkies were also tough.
The desserts are phenomenal though. Despite getting my order wrong and bringing me a toffee pudding and not a toffee cheesecake initially. The serving portions for puddings were large and honestly some of the best cheesecake I've ever had. The cakes also looked tremendous.
Overall I would not come her for the food options. The only thing I would come here for is the desserts, which luckily they provide a 'Cakeaway' service where you can get the dessert of your choice in a takeaway container.
Value for money was ok, you got what you paid for really.
Ok overall, but wouldn't recommend
S. P.
Had a much better experience today with the Mex chicken burger n chips. Speed of service still an issue and food scraps on the floor.
K. K.
Visited at 3.30pm. I think the carvery had been kept warm for hours and was dry and lukewarm warm. The coffee and walnut cake was very dry. Usually have a nice meal here but not today. Staff nice and helpful tho.
A. P.
Good Value Carvery with excellent selection of Meat and Vegetables. Good selection of drink and a couple of hand pump real ales available. Did have a chance to try the great looking cakes. Indoor play area is a good idea but could currently do with improvement as its mainly pay per play machines with lots of wasted space.
K. S.
Very good value for money. Large portions.
P. B.
Went outside of the restaurant rush hour, and as usual, food wise it's very good value for money. We all three of us ordered a carvery. Don't get me wrong this isn't a place for a romantic meal, or fine dining. It's reasonably cheap, and food quality is okay. Your roast meat isn't truly roasted as can be seen by the anemic looking Turkey and Non Roast Beef, the so called crispy fat is white and wet. But for the money it's edible and filling.
Drinks on the other hand are a ripoff. Ask for a pint of coke or lemonade with no ice and you won't get a pint. Their machine is pre calibrated and they can't override it. All their drinks that usually have ice are the same. So.. if you don't want your drinks watered down be prepared to be ripped off.
J. C. (. P.
Had a really good meal tonight for our Xmas eve meal outing. Wasn't too busy and everyone enjoyed all the food very much. Prices were reasonable too for the size of the portions. No complaints at all.
D. T.
Visit here frequently and it usually very good. However a visit today, sun jan26th for the wife's birthday meal was a tad disappointed.. whilst the majority if the food was quick, hot, and delicious. This visit the let down was the carvery. Was booked for midday, hoping for a nice fresh carvery selection....the Yorkshire pudding was so hard it was inedible. The carrots could of been fed to Rudolph they were still so crunchy ( and I love crunchy root veg). The 'roast' potatoes were effectively mashed together in a bowl, I struggled to find any with at least 1 crispy side. The only saving grace were the meats. Succulent and cooked to perfection....sadly the rest let it down.
Other than that, staff always helpful. Never had a bad experience before, so will most likely give a second chance.
L. P.
Went for a carvery on a sunday. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The queue for the carvery was extremely long but i guess as it is fairly new place it was very popular! The carvery was so good! My daughter had a lovely little meal and got free ice cream which was also lovely. The cake away is amazing and it was great to have an indoor and outdoor play area for kids. Brilliant and will definitely return!
l. b.
Very busy at times, too crowded for me personally, but it does depend on when you go, so perhaps that's a little unfair. Cakes are enormous. You could share one portion with three people! Not for weight watchers, you have to see it to believe it. Fair prices and staff helpful. But 3 star because I like smaller cozy pubs, this one is very big.
L. G.
Great during off peak hours! Nice food, good atmosphere. Nice selection on the pub menu, but no specials, but there is a carvery too. Great selection of massive servings of puddings, and there is a CakeAway option too! The quality of service & food standards drop noticeably during peak hours.
L.
Staff are please to help and seem nice enough. Zero queuing method to ordering at the bar just seemed to be whomever they fancied helping at the time. Food is mediocre fare with huge slices of cake for dessert available. But the cake is not great just there is a lot of it.
Clientelle is varied but there are a lot of children, one of them mine so not moaning about the fact, if you don't appreciate a lot of activity when you eat it is not for you. There is a non family dining area but even that is very noisy.
M. M.
Had a birthday meal here with some family and friends on Saturday afternoon. The staff were all lovely and couldn't of been more helpfull. The food was mostly good. My husband was disappointed with the carvery as he would of preferred a side plate for the cold salad. I had vegetarian macaroni was really nice. My parents brought a whole mars cake. It's massive. Had to freeze most of it. But great value for money. Me and a friend stayed on after our meal . Sat out side and enjoyed the atmosphere. We're returning tomorrow morning to try the breakfast. Wendy was exceptional. Thankyou to all for making my birthday celebration fab !
J. M.
Massive portions, went in for the carvery and couldn't help but try almost everything on offer. Good well cooked meat. Great selection of vegetables, not just boiled to death carrot and peas. Good roast potatoes. Friendly staff and a family friendly atmosphere.
Z. M. N.
Such a lovely restaurant to eat in. The sizes of the meals are definitely more than what you pay for! Very quick and friendly service. Great atmosphere and a yummy selection if deserts! Beware of the desert sizes however, they are huuuuuuge! Will definitely be coming back here again soon 😊
R. T.
Great carvery, we went on an early Sunday evening and it was very busy. My only negative was that it was our first visit and we weren't sure of the process on how to order food, when to pay, when to queue etc. I guess people just assume you know, but all carvery pubs I've been to do it differently, I will probably go at a quieter time next time.
A. C. A.
Visited just after breakfast during their break setting up for lunch so wasn't able to try any meals but enjoyed the cake! Huge slice of cake. My daughter enjoyed the kids play area, will 100% be returning to try a meal and for my daughter to have somewhere to play. Staff were friendly to! X
M. K.
We were indicated to this restaurant by the Holiday Inn Express. We saw it was very popular when we reached the carpark and found ourselves in a pub/restaurant setting. We chose from the menu and payed at the bar. The meals were huge and the desserts were enormous. Many people were buying desserts in plastic boxes and taking them away for later! Quality was perfectly serviceable.
S. W.
Food was subpar, the whole place was loud and crowded with no one wearing masks but the staff. The cakes were excellent though.
M. C.
As always in these places, the portions were generous, to say the least. My partner had the Chicken Tikka, and needed a side plate for the poppadom and naan, so she could get to the rest of her meal. I had the fish supper, and it was nice too, the batter quite thick, but still crispy and avoided being stodgy. I wasn't as impressed with the curry sauce on the side, but for under £30 with drinks, definitely a good meal overall!
N. h.
Nice place to take the family. The food is pretty much what you expect & there is a nice play area for the kids. The cakeaway is great! Huge slices of lovely cake. The brownie or the Mars attacks cake are a must if you like chocolate
S. T. R. A. W. F. T. P. O.
So long as your expectations are low, you'll be satisfied. Some visits are just fine, sometimes it's lousy. Depends on what staff are working probably. £4.49 sundaes a disappointment. People seem to like the big slices of cake, although these aren't cheap. The cake is more about quantity than quality. Carvery can be hit and miss - a lot depends on your timing.
S. A.
Food here is very nice and reasonably priced. There cake selection is amazing and you can even take it home for later. Great kids area where the little ones can play and run around and be as noisy as they like. My nephew loves it! Even has games to occupy the older kids.

Can get busy, excellent for bookings, food, children facilities, beautiful seating area where u can relax out back,( enclosed)
There Take Away Carvery is the best idea for an establishment to of thought of....!! If we visit & it is packed then at least we can take a Carvery home &still get to enjoy 🤗

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Food and drinks that will suit your pocket, clean, friendly and has an indoor and outdoor play area for children, there is also tables if you want to be away from the noise of little ones playing. It is fully accessible and has a large car park.

Went for breakfast one morning, served from 8am - 10:30am. The food was fresh however there was not as much selection as I expected. It was good if you just wanted unlimited cooked breakfast, but there was no cereal, croissants, jam and toast etc. There was a small separate menu for things other than cooked breakfast, but this was minimal.
Overall a good place to go for unlimited breakfast, but if you want more selection, I would go elsewhere.

We enjoyed our lovely carvery of Turkey and beef (cooked to perfection) large variety of spuds and vegetables, nice thick gravy all served under the best covid safe conditions. (a well run/ organised restaurant /pub - staff were professional) ps save room for dessert as the ice-cream counter is a joy to be seen.

Very nice, staff were very helpful, friendly. Food was good apart from my desert which was the chocolate eclair, it was dry, had custard in it with cream which was frozen and tasted gone off. I don't like cream so had to scrape it off(forgot to ask them to do without) so didn't eat much of it.

Food nice but very slow service. Had to wait 30 minutes for 4 drinks and then 2 were not in stock.

Lovely place for children nice little play area. Food is served nice and hot and the cake away is amazing, I have never come across that before. My sister and I took ours home took 2 sittings to eat it all. Fabulous place for families and couples.

We wanted book tables for a leaving works do party of approx 20 people. We were told couldn't book the time 7.30 we wanted to allow workmates to get there, had to do 7pm, then if we didn't arrive before 7pm they wouldn't save our tables! On arrival I was along with a colleague shown to our tables... We placed our order with a lovely helpful smiley person at the counter (only friendly woman there), when our food was arriving the woman who served us our food was very off, almost dropping our plates on the table, obviously didn't know which table had ordered what as we were told to use just one table number for all of us! Some meals were not what we ordered which seemed to annoy her further, there was no communication from her apart from stating what the food was, there was no, enjoy your meal, have a lovely evening. Luckily this didn't stop us from enjoying our evening for most part. The whole booking of the evening was very stressful for the member of staff who organised it! Due to the occasion we didn't complain about our food, not wanting to upset our colleague whom this was for, but our food was either over cooked, items missing, or the wrong item, very disappointing as I have eaten here on a few occasions with no hassle. What has happened?

Very well set out and with corona virus in mind. Order at bar then everything bought to table including drinks. Go up for carvery still but it served in front of you but behind screen. You still choose. Only thing i didnt like was hard sprouts. Lol

Carvery is reasonable but spuds were soggy. Menu is fairly standard pub grub at ok prices. Not tried any steak yet and that's my normal gauge to the quality of a kitchen. Normally very busy, but that's because prices are quite good for what you get.

Sunday 17th September 2017, 8 for Lunch, arrived early to ensure a table, so glad we did, very busy establishment, wonderful venue, great staff, very professional, extensive menu with reasonable priced meals. Among our group a good variety of dishes ordered and all fabulous. So, so busy but little waiting time, a massive big tick highly recommended.

Dont come here often as it is the other side of the river. Very busy at week ends but really reasonable on week days. There are many choices for food. There is Always a roast. At a very good price. Delicious ice cream a cake to die for.

Fabulous food at great prices ! And those cakes all I can say is wow. Definately recommend

Simply Amazing, the food here is divine. The choice is really good and there needs to be a special mention for their pudding range...all I'll say is WOW you need to experience for yourself!!
We Will definitely be back and I highly recommend walnut tree to anyone looking for great food at what I consider to be very good prices in today's market. Well done 10/10

ALWAYS amazing value carvery, 4 meats and huge selection of vegetables, salads and dressings/sauces. Enjoyed a magnificent carvery with Gammon, Turkey and Beef with a wide range of vegetables. Always a great family friendly atmosphere with fabulous safe children's play area.

Have visited the last three Sunday's and chose the small carvery. Excellent value, but not very hot. On the last occassion the day of storm Dennis the air con was on pushing cold air onto the already luke warm food. We did mention this to a member of staff and they apologised and turned it off. A short while later as we were just finishing our meal it was turned back on. At this point a family of four arrived and were seated just in front of us and immediatley we noticed they were looking up at the air con unit and were commenting on the cold air. They were about to request a change of table or going to leave, when a member of staff said she would get it tuned off. I understand the need for air con when it's hot but not in cold days. Modern air con can also deliver heat as well as col air. So why are customers expected to put up with being cold.

1st time here as visiting on way to my holiday. Staff very pleasant meal was lovely. Only problem I have is that being new to the ares we followed the directions on Google maps. Having mobile issues I use a mobility scooter on arriving at the pub i go down to the path we're the ramp is to cross the car park to gain access to the pub only to be greater with a car parked over the ramp. This is not a car parking space and big notice saying please do not park. No other way to get off curb. My hubby had to get me off my scooter and physically lift my scooter off the pavement on to the car park then I get back on my scooter. Once we got to the entrance we escorted to our table by lovely staff. I mentioned to a waitress what had happened and she said she would speak to her manager. 2 hrs later when we had had a lovely meal we decided wede go back to the hotel. And so we left and oh what a surprise car still parked there. We had to go all way round in an area we didn't know but to be honest the car should of not been parked there it needs sorting. I was lucky in the fact that I can get off my scooter but had I been on my own I would of been stuck.as I could not of got off the curb and not been able to actually get in the pub. This has spoilt the whole experience of such a lovely place. Think management need to get a grip on this sort of thing

Stayed at a local hotel and this place was a 5 min walk. Food was good (big portions). We where here during the very good weather in June and the restaurant was like walking into a furnace so it could do with aircon. Tho staff where polite and talkative and again the portions wow.

Had a works do tonight and was the first time I'd been there. The place looked good, the staff were freindly, and the food was great. The carvery was really good.
Lovely stuff!

Went for a retirement do with five friends. This was my first visit so didn't know what to expect. I had the large carvery which was huge! They gave me a box to take what I couldn't eat away with me which was a nice touch. The others had …

Great roast and great cake 😊

Nice place to take the family. The food is pretty much what you expect & there is a nice play area for the kids. The cakeaway is great! Huge slices of lovely cake. The brownie or the Mars attacks cake are a must if you like chocolate

Great food, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere! Also very good job with social distancing during this COVID situation. 👌

Really good carvery 13 different veggies to choose from and 4 joints. Other menu available too. Puddings are amazing always take them home as to full after carvery. Garden has play area for kids and also indoor play space with consoles for …

Very good pub, tasty food, affordable prices. Good family area. Very wide choice of food for the whole family, even the litlle little ones.
L. H.
Reasonably priced with good quality food. The portion sizes are HUGE. Make sure you go with an empty stomach to get the most for your money.
The puddings are also huge and you are allowed to take them home if you don't have enough room to eat it all (one pudding is enough for two people). Trust me with a meal and pudding to yourself you would not be able to finish both plates.
Highly recommended.

It is a cheap place to eat. If you have children, they will like it, they have an indoors play area, it is small but keeps the kids entertained. The ambience is that of an old pub. With strange decorations in the children's area. Table where we sat was dirty so sticky. Wouldn't recommend to eat, just drink!
B. W.
A table was available on arrival. It was very draughty and moved to another table. It was busy and quiet with the party tables. On ordering food at the bar it's not easy for the bar staff to know who should be served first. We were given a 30 minute wait for the food to arrive where it took only 10 minutes. The starters were very nice and soon the main courses arrived which were also very nice.
A very reasonable prices food. Recommend

3pm busy but not crowded, like any carvery, have a look at the meat being carved before you decide, it is all about timing. We were a party of 5, meal was nice, hot and plentiful at a good price. Service was good

Not the best for food tbf, but cheap n cheerful
S. T.
Lovely food but had to get bar food rather than use carvery due to the amount of customers and no tables available. Also when food came the waitress was very very rude. Shouting to ask who ordered food rather than checking what table number it was for. Staff made us feel quite uncomfortable. Staff was also rude to other customers in front of me.
B. M.
Just went in for a drink and a small bite, really friendly staff and lovely food, I recommend the chicken sharing platter
B. L.
It's alright. We sat outside which was okay. The table was sticky and the floor had cigarette butts on it. We had an all day breakfast which was pretty greasy. Fairly cheap and good in terms of having lots of space and room for families.

Another modern pub on the outskirts of Southampton near to the M271 motorway at Nursling. The pub was very busy so it may be advisable to book in advance. We were lucky at the time of our visit to have a table come free as we arrived. The layout of the pub is like a modern housing estate with all the tables very close given little room to move around. Food is ordered at the bar, where there is a a queuing system to assist the bar staff with who is next. Food from the menu is brought to the table. There is also a carvery with three sizes meal to cater for the not so hungry to the absolutely staving
S. L.
Cozy ambiance and very comfortable. Generous portion sizes of food for the prices. Wish it was easier to find the nutritional facts of the dishes but it was a good time out with family!
K. M.
Had Christmas dinner here with the family today and I cannot praise the staff enough! They were absolutely amazing and were constantly checking to make sure we were all happy with every aspect! The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed and we will certainly be going back next Xmas 👌😊

Arrived with my friend at 11.15am, was seated by friendly waitress. Food was hot & very tasty, during the meal two different waiter/waitress asked if we were enjoying our meals (which we did)! By the time we left at 1.45pm it was very busy. Will return again soon.
S. R.
It's a good place for keeping small children entertained while dining out. Wasn't impressed by the carvery so left 75% of my meal on the plate. Will try the place again though, and will try something off the 'cook to order' menu
C. W.
Ok I came here for mother's Day. The staff are amazing. Considering how busy they were they were so friendly. The guy that took us to our table was ace. The food came on time, to be honest I was expecting it to be late because the sheer amount of people here. Food was great atmosphere was great. Fantastic place. Highly recommended.

Standard chain pub that serves higher than usual quality food. The setting is peaceful and there is a family zone with a large play area for the little ones, although there's not much to play with if your children are under two. This was my 2nd visit and I'm sure I'll be back soon.
m. m.
The layout is good you have a section where children can play and the adults with them are in that area and those without children have their own dining area so they are not disturbed. Food is great the portion sizes are huge and worth the money.

Jack of all trades, master of none. Whilst here the staff dropped clean cutlery on the floor and put it back with the rest of the clean forks... Not too pleased with that.
Massive menu offering but the food looked as per the standard you'd expect at a pub.
Seems to be a lot of staff buzzing around but not doing a lot. Maybe will get better with experience as still fairly new. Oh and the guy behind the carvery counter was sweating like a horse! I did wonder how much of that had been wiped on his rubber glove...
Meat was cooked to a good standard though so enjoyed that.

Went there for a carvery on Monday lunchtime and found the place to be very busy which was a good sign. Carvery had 4 choices of meat and veg was fresh.Staff were really friendly.Cakes are massive and homemade but to be honest to big.Had 2 carverys and 2 sparkling water and bill was only £18.

Nice looking pub. Staff are a bit rushed....not their fault. Nice and polite friendly staff. Average food. Veg didn’t really taste of anything. So I’m guessing it’s cooked from frozen maybe. ?!
M. S.
Beer good, Carvery was not great- 4 of us, & not one liked the look of the meats... so went off the menu- starters & mains- they only went & served starters & meals exactly the same time....!! Then wondered why we said "No- bring the mains back once finished starters" !!??

Was disappointed. Used it a lot a couple of years ago and saw a big difference today. All veg was cold before I could eat it. No fish available for my husband. I asked for gin and tonic, when they gave it to me it was rhubarb gin. I definately did not ask for that. I said usual gin. Toilet out of order. Very disappointed. Left a lot.
