Reviews of Portishead Marina
M. B.
The marina is a lovley place for a walk, plenty of places to grab a drink and something to eat. If you keep walking past the lock gates you end up at a small pebble beach that has a small pier and a lifeboat station. Car parking is a £1 an hour or just park in one of the supermarket car parks for free.
A. A.
Beautiful place to visit. Lovely coffee and cake places, beach with lots of glass and rock pebbles. walks in woods and beach. Kids (9 and10) loved it!
D. H.
Lovely place to visit, especially on a sunny day. Highly recommend the Ice Cream van parked near the leisure centre for a tasty treat.
J. K.
What a lovely place to visit. Had a great walk round, stopping for coffee and cake is a must
J. I.
A great location, ideal for walking—particularly in the summer evenings. Grab a Costa on the way round, and enjoy the boats, and it is particularly interesting if the lock is working at the end.
C. S.
A beautiful part of outer Bristol right on the edge of the river Severn… A lovely marina with bars restaurants and shops . Long pathways for those that enjoy walking…. Views across the river to South Wales.. as well as a little bustling town close by…
T. J.
A beautiful, relaxing place to walk around. Nice eateries too😊😊
C. J.
A beautiful and busy marina in Portishead. A perfect place to enjoy a stroll on a sunny day, plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from while you watch the boats and people pass by, plus regular events. Parking can be a challenge but you'll usually find street parking within a short walk.
J. M.
First time here! Nice and flat for our relative to walk around with her crutch. Clean and quiet. Found a lovely café, great choice of cakes including gluten free options!
S. G.
It's a lovely place to walk around, as is the coastline of Portishead, you can walk around both if you have a couple of hours, at least, to spare. Try to visit the Marina when The Pub/Bar ' Sirens' Calling ' is open, that's a real treat.
t. R.
Lovely to walk around here. Some nice cafés and bars, with outside seating. Great watching the boats going through the locks, and the yachts mooring.
P. P.
Very relaxing place to be on a sunny day. Its a decent well kept marina, with good facilities and some nice bars and restaurants. It's quite modern and residential. It doesnt really ooze character if that's what you're after. Still, it's a nice place to beand worth a visit.
J.
Beautiful place to walk around. Would have liked to have seen more information about the place as it is very unique. It's definitely worth a wander!
T. I.
Moved here 3 months ago and simply love it .
A. T.
First time here. Parked by the Marine Lake and took a walk past all the posh houses with 'Sea views'. Worth seeing the RNLI station and what's left of the pier. Very pleasant walk. Number of coffee shops open for takeaway. Two footbridges with a one way system in operation. You can walk through to the town. Loads of boats of all shapes and sizes.
G. C.
Love the serenity of this place
r. p.
This place has a totally relaxed holiday feel. Several good eateries are located within normal walking distance and a few have continental style outside seating areas.
M. C.
Nice marina full of boats with a few bars, restaurants and a convenient store surrounding it. Nice for a stroll around and a cuppa (or maybe something stronger!) on a sunny day.
G.
One of the best location to live in the UK. Restaurant and pubs isn’t a problem.
You can book a room in Travel Lodge which is closer to massive waitrose or Premier Inn Portishead hotel which is by Sainbury.
Both Hotels are on bus lane should you want to visit Bristol or Cribbs Causeway for the Day.
S. P.
Beautiful marina full of boats. Nice for a stroll and a cuppa …
A. R. I.
I love the place, elegant marina and urban area, l love a sea view and the fact that sea is so close. A great place for walking and I think for living, too
R. J.
Great walks around the marina and further a few shops, cafes and restaurants dotted around with beautiful boats to marvel at as well.
M.
In the sun this place is beautiful and you can forget that you're in the UK. Located around the Marina are a few bars and restaurants. Great place to have a date.
M. H.
Lovely place to stroll around and with a few bars and restaurants thrown in too !
P. D.
Love this place always have a stroll around this marina stopping at Costa, before finishing our circular walk.
T. T.
Lovely walk round, plenty to see in the Marina.
Had some lovely fish and chips from the restaurant and my friend had seafood spaghetti. Everything was cooked fresh.
N. M.
Lovely marina, even on a drizzly day. Selection of places for a coffee, nice walk to battery point. Fantastic view across to Wales when its clear
M. W.
Fantastic area to take a walk and get some fresh air. Even a coffee and piece of cake.
P. M.
Nice area for a walk, drink or meal. Unfenced water means care is needed with young children. Lovely craft moored in the marina.
K. L.
Beautiful marina ... easy walking to the town .. main shops ie waitrose ..pets at home.. lots of places to eat around the marina or in the town... great Costa walks
or nature reserve ... A bonus if the tide is right to watch the pleasure craft locking through the marina... or the large cargo tankers coming and you g from Avon mouth docks. A good family day out.
C. D.
Love it, perfect for a walk on a sunny day, or any day really, worth going all the way to the end to get a view up the channel. Plenty of places to get food and drinks on the way round too.
L. L.
Just love this place. On a sunny day you could be anywhere on the Mediterranean. Fabulous bakery for lunch looking over the Marina
R. T.
Nice place for a wander around, great coffee shops and pubs. Feels quite Mediterranean on a sunny day
M. W.
Nice place. Pleasant walk, interesting views. An easy circular stroll, over lock gates, and a look at all the boats. A Costa coffee, ice-cream, and other snacks available. Fascinating public art.
C. s.
Lovely to walk around the marina especially in the summer so Costa Coffee and a snack van sounds burgers hot dogs cakes all kinds of things nice place to sit kids can go crabbing quite a good place for fishing if you like that kind of thing you can also see the new Portishead lifeboat centre at the front and kids and adults alike can go down onto the Pebble Beach throw stones in the water of the titan and the few restaurants and pubs really close by 5 minutes walk everything you need to enjoy a nice afternoon
l. R.
It was nice walking around the marina had a coffee from a truck as the main coffee shop would only take cards and we had cash . But pleasant surroundings nothing special .
B. S.
Great place for lazy walks and with a nice coffee bar and fish and chips at the end as your reward...beautiful views
s. h.
On a fine day a lovely place to admire boats, do water sports and plenty of food and drink available. Often outdoor market stalls and farmers markets around the marina.
J. P.
Great little area just outside Bristol, I would recommend parking at the Portishead Cricket ground and walking your way down.
On a hot summers day, you could almost believe you were in Barcelona!
G. B.
Very nice indeed, sun was shining, light breeze, cafe tables on the outside, liquid refreshments very refreshing !
Liked it very much indeed
S.
Lovely clean place to have a walk around
L. T.
Lovely place to walk and relax. Pub, coffee shop, bakery, local shop, restaurant, all situated on the Marina to stop by. Pedestrian links to the gym and further into the town bypassing the supermarket area. Clean and spacious, do alot of running and walking around. One loop is exactly 1 mile. Beautiful on a sunny day ☀️😎
T. P.
Pleasant morning out watching people going about their business on the water. Very relaxing.
N. K.
Loved it lots of bars and restaurants Ibis Hotel nearby stayed there good value
t.
Nice marina even though the weather was a bit storm Dennis it made for a good walk. The old lock gate winding mechanisms are still in situ and date from 1942. Can walk all the way round the marina and across the lock gates, unless they are open that is. They can be open a couple of hours either side of HW.
A. O.
Nice place to look around. Shops and coffees makes this place very popular
H. P.
It was a little bit of British winter that made the scene dreary. But we found a really nice pub that looked out at this and had a few pints.
R. E.
Visited the Hall & Woodhouse and stayed for a few cold ciders sat out in the sun looking out onto the Marina. A beautiful bar, great scenery, polite and helpful staff, clean, and the place had a really nice feel to it. Will defo head back to eat next time.
R. D.
Great day out hear.good coffee at Costa coffee half way around the marina, good meal at weatherspoons.
d. m.
Nice cafe/bar in Marina, plenty of outdoor seating, nice for a beer on nice day like today
D. S.
Cycled to the Marina from Bristol along NCR route 24/41 today, had a drink outside the Siren's Calling pub, very nice area to sit a watch the boats and people go by. Also had a coffee from the SeaRock Cafe which was pretty disgusting, not the flat white I asked for, more like brown milk. Came back on tracks via Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve which is an interesting area. Great half day ride.
C. G.
Great walk in the sunshine! Even saw a St. Bernard being trained to rescue people in the sea!
K. M.
What an incredible place to walk around and grab a coffee! Especially at sunset!
c. s.
A lovely walk and to sit and have a drink weather alcoholic or coffee let the kids go crabbing but needs a public toilet desperately
A. U.

Lovely atmosphere, very relaxing. The best Fish & Chips ever from SeaRock ( don't leave without trying them )
Y. H.
Fabulous place lovely restuarants and very clean area will visit again.
D. N.
Visited at high tide today for lovely walk. Dog poo near the new premises serving drinks and coffee just up from Costa. What is wrong with some dog owners!
C. R.
Great place to wander around when visiting Portishead. Have. Cuppa at The Captain's Cabin or a meal at any of the eateries there, or a drink at the pub next to the Co-op supermarket. If you're feeling flush buy a boat from Ting Dean.
M. N.
I am not a boat owner but admire the various craft moored in the Portishead marina and it's very good for a stroll round...I enjoyed very much the fish and chips I had in the F&C shop which is located in a row of shops half way on my walk (take away or sit in)
J. H.
Lovely place to walk around, always clean and tidy. All the Cafe's are lovely
P.
Lovely, tidy and well kept marina with modern apartments, shops and bars. There's always water in the marina due to lock gates keeping it in.
It's nice to walk all the way around the marina and it's easy to get into the town from here as it's only a short walk away.
N. W.
Actually a really nice place. I'd like to spend a bit of time exploring this area...
M. N.
great ,how the other half live fantastic bars and restaurants and boats worth a visit.
R. H.

J. W.

p. s.
Lovely marina adopting a Spanish feel. Excellent food & drink outlets. Stunning views
K. B.
Great location, especially when the sun is out.
a. j.
Great place to visit and just watch the world go by. Lots of places to eat and drink...I just love H&W. There is three supermarkets and a plentiful supply of other shops nearby.
And if you are visiting on a boat, navigation in to the harbour is easy and the staff are helpful and professional. Fuel and water are available from the pontoon near to the lock, payment at the control office. Navigation to the pontoons is easy, and you will be given a chart to direct you to your berth.
Since writing this review there has been a minor change to the fuel berth, which now operates with a bank card machine instead of having to go to the office to pay.
T. B.
Clean and very pretty, lots to enjoy, good bars, restaurants and coffee houses. Parking can be problematic if you wanted to park on the road, but there are big carports available that are right where you want to be for a few pounds and space is always available.
R. K.
It’s so gorgeous here! And the views are to die for!
C. B.
Always a nice walk around marina whatever the weather is doing

Very good place for whole family to relax on Saturday afternoon.
P. A.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't good, in summer and when lockdown is over the restaurant's will be open then it will be a lovely place to visit.
A. B.
Always appreciate the facilities and showers when heading back to home port.
Staff are always polite and helpful.
It's probably the most expensive berths in the Bristol channel though.
Sum up;
Excellent and it's worth the expense.
a. b.
Superb to have a walk around if your a boat lover
D. P.

Lovely place to enjoy a walk and a pint or fish and chips etc.Boats can be seen negotiating the lock gates from the Severn.Don’t fall in as it’s a bit of a drop so common sense needed.Fishing can be undertaken with permit.
M. M.
Great Marina with good selection of bars and restaurants, Not too far from Portishead High Street. Good walk around the Marina.
Dropped 1 star for the amount of thoughtless dog owners not picking up dog mess.
N. M.
Lovely views of the severn estuary from an iconic town , and the home of one of my favourite groups.
S. H.
Fantastic marina .and the showers are spotless .the lock staff are very efficient and approachable and friendly
j. p.

A. O.
If you want an area of water with boats on it, this is the place for you. If you want a place with a sensible number of bins, it is not. Some nice pubs and eaterys around it too
J. F.
A very good piece of modern planning. Interesting architecture and a lively mixed population.
Yes you wonder round and speculate, could I live here?
Maybe I could.
Interesting to see how some of the cladding and render has already started to look shabby.
S. P. B.
Great place to stop off on the way down to Cornwall.
w. t.
Lovely atmosphere, boats, lock, sea, modern buildings . Cafes and restaurants . Ok for a Sunday stroll or lunchtime walk.
W. S.
Really good not been there for a few years Really has grown. I would recommend going there when the tide is in great to watch boats coming through the lock gates.
E. C.
Honestly one of the loveliest surprises! This was just a stop off for 1 night to break up a long journey to Devon but it was really pretty, great restaurants and bakeries, really clean and well looked after!
We are going to go back soon for a bit longer!
J. K.
Such a pleasant walk around the marina. People who live here are so lucky. Would love to be sitting on one of the balconies observing all the fancy boats. Had a sandwich and drink sat outside Mokoko and soaked up the ambience. Such fun!
D. R.
If you want a nice relaxing time this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner
B. W.

S. B.
Nice place for a walk and a coffee. Don’t forget to go down past the lock-gates for a view of the estuary.
L. H.
Nice for a quiet stroll in the sunshine. Flat, accessible with local parking. But lacking in WC facilities, local businesses only letting customers use their restrooms. Luckily the Leisure centre allowed our children to use their restrooms which were lovely and clean.
W. M.

Love this place, lovely walk around the marina, few shops up near the lock gates to get food and drinks. Restaurants and a couple of bars on the way around also. Some nice boats to look at and the odd person fishing. Could do with more bins around expecially by the shops as there isn't any
I. H.
Walk, watch, eat or drink. It's a fabulous place to relax.

Small range of eateries. Friendly and relaxing venue

This is a lovely place it's always chilled out and you never rush when at Portishead. Mainly food shops and cafes. The harbour is lovely and always clean. Plenty of parking pay and display you can also pay via the app, also a Wetherspoons cheap beer and food.
P. H.
Great place for walks and what a views!
M. C.
Lovely place for a walk but BEWARE: there are NO toilet facilities open to the public. In normal times, not too much of a problem, but all the cafes are only offering takeaway service, therefore can't use their facilities.

E. H.
Beautiful place,very relaxing
D. H.
Lively place, densely populated with a mix of young and older. Moorings are said to be around £30 per night with all facilities. Mix of bars and restaurants to choose from, as well as a bakery and local Co-op.
Further afield, but still within walking distance, are Waitrose, Lidl and Aldi.
Plenty of dogs around - but must be on leads.
f. w.
Quite lively. Restaurants scattered about which are overpriced
j.
Beautiful marina situated across the Avon from the docks. Grab a coffee whilst watching the boats in a modern up to date Harbour. have a wonder round the marina and across the lock gates to the RLNI station and beach.

Nice to walk round plenty of boats of all sizes and of course the life boat was being taken out of the water while we were there which was exciting fir my grandson
B. M.
A gorgeous view and lovely walk. Go here frequently because it's right next to my cousins apartment. All the houses and apartments in this area are beautiful. You can see the view of the marina from the apartment balconys which is lovely. The boats look lovely and the water is always so clear, i've seen jellyfish in there before actually which was so cool.
B. C.
Vibrant atmosphere, victualling facilities, bars and moorings.
P. C.
As always, he team and facilities at Portishead Quays are second to none. We will always recommend them to customers looking to move their boats to or from this part of the country.
D. T.
Lovely walk around the marina. Some new very good looking cafes and bars since I was last there. Looking forward to returning when things have opened up more.
D. F.
Stunning place with coffee shops, a variety of eateries, beautiful walks and scenery
C. F.
Went to hall and woodhouse not much parking 🙄
S. B.
Always pleasant to wander around. Lots of decent coffee shops and a couple of bars and restaurants too.
A good walk around and only a short stroll into Portishead town centre if you are so inclined. Why only 4 stars? Parking in a word!! Absolutely awful to try and find a spot, especially on a weekend.
P. R.
Great place to grab a Sunday breakfast and then walk it off
n. P.
Totally love portishead.. the people, the place, some wonderful places to just sit & watch the world 🌎 go by.
M. A.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere just sit with a coffee and people watch
W. J.
Love Portishead, if it wasn't for the colour of the water and the mud you would think you were at a top holiday resort
K. P.
Dropping off a crew to their boat. Nice place to have a stroll, look at the boats and lovely properties. The food van by the harbour office isn't bad either.
C. W.
Spent a lovely afternoon at the docks. Had a long walk around. Really interesting place. Lots of different architecture to look from renovated light house to town houses. A few restaurants. Nice place too spend time at.
B. V.
Such a lovely place to spend a summers evening. Nice walks nearby and a great selection of places to eat.
N.
Lovely place for walking the dog. Also a lovely place for fishing winning & dinning bars are nice day in the Narrina.

Really nice walk around the marina, nice cafes to stop off at and have takeaway coffees and sandwiches. The portishead python is a good sight to see. One thing that does annoy me is the lack of bins.
W. R.
Nice walk around harbour, after lunch looking àt the boats
P. B.
Lovely walk on a nice day
C. R.
Great place to walk around for exercise during lockdown. You can still get takeaway hot drinks from The Captains Cabin by the lock gates, as well as some of the other establishments.
V. W.
Really lovely little walk with my partner

m. b.
Love to take a walk around especially when the weather is great
R. P.
My son has a permanent mooring here and lives on his boat during the week. I am an occasional visitor but am well impressed. It has great security, lots of facilities close to. The ablution facilities are absolutely spotless every time I have been there.
R. C.
I'm always bowled over when I visit here. I remember it when it was a tired little sea port with just a couple of local ships and fishermen using it. Now its a vibrant marina village with superb facilities and mooring for over a hundred vessels. Some beautifully landscaped areas and modern development help to create a true buzz and vibrancy that you can only associate with living near the sea. Portishead has been reborn.
J. R.
Surprisly pleasant area.
A. H.
Wheelchair friendly and clean environment. Good for a leisurely stroll for people watching and viewing the lovely boats.
E. H.
Very nice walk around marina a few bars and cafes
m. m.
I like this shopping area. Plenty of parking, places to do your weekly grocery shop, or grab a bite to eat. I think there is limited free parking. They have toilets in some of the shops. If this review was helpful, please like.
P. H.
Nice place to take a stroll, a few eating places under the apartment blocks but there are no public toilets available.
P.
Wonderful place for all ages to explore with plenty of benches, boats to admire and of course, the lock gates to study as they frequently open and close to admit boats. Plenty of free parking around (use the supermarket car park if needed), various places to eat and check out the statues and obelisks (up on the bay, opposite side of Portishead Pier). Do note that plenty of people live here as well so be considerate and don't peak into their apartments so obviously! ^^
A. P.
It is a really pleasant place to spend the evening. There are places to eat and a co-op if you need any shopping.
M. M.
Beautiful place for a walk or sit down loads of interesting boats
A. P.
Nothing too exciting, marina with flat packed trendy housing and expensive restaurants. Caveat... It was raining heavily so may have dampened my spirits
A. C.

We love this place. I really can not say why. Walk with kids around marina can take 1h. And from there you can do Portishead Lake Grounds circle 2h, you can go to Portbury Warth Nature reserve. In all for us 2-3h walk with some time for kids on playground and quick coffe. From Bristol great place for a Sunday walk. Love it.

A. S.
Looking out from the restaurant at the boats in glorious sunshine and under blue skies we felt like we could be on the Mediterranean (rather cold outside though!!)
D. J.
Sea air, food and drink, flat walking
T. L.
Sister Lives here, was lovely...
But management upkeep is terrible and starting to show signs of neglect in a regeneration area!
M. K.
Lovely walk nice bars etc was the sun is shining it as a real feel good factor like you could be in the south of France
Well worth a visit
C. B.
Have both sailed in and out of here, and visit as a local resident. Good facilities and chandlery as a marina, and a wonderful wonderful cafe next to the fishing tackle shop. Marina is nice to walk around too with plenty to see and shops and bars for those that have the need.
J. T.
We enjoyed a walk round the marina, an ice cream and then a drink outside, all with family we had not seen for months, a perfect day.
J. H.
Pleasant surroundings ,you can fish the Marina😁 if not try your luck on the Pier,go to The Tackle Shop and enquire about the code to open the gate.Remember to ask when The High Tide is and how big? Anything over 12.5m will swamp the pier and that ain't good☹ enjoy the surroundings and Tight Lines👍
L. C.
Beautiful area!!! X

N. H.
Pleasant place to visit, nice boats in marina, apartment overload, coop, pub fish n chips and costa cafe, good for walking about leisurely, reminds me of being abroad esp in summer, watch out not much parking, some parts looking a bit scruff, wish had railings around whole of marina,
A. M.
Always a nice place to wander round
C. T.
Sited on the old Portishead docks, this Marina has lock gates to the sea, this is the Bristol Channel, where tides vary considerably so have to be considered when sailing in or out. Marina berth holders have camera controlled free parking. Public access to the Marina pontoons and boats is prohibited, closed off by gates controlled by card access for berth holders only. The Marina is surrounded by a lot of busy housing, some restaurants, bars, cafes and limited retail outlets. Public access to old dock quays is allowed, the operation of the lock gates can be watched as boats lock in and out. A lot of people use the area, and Public parking is at a premium, you must pay in advance at the machine.
C. S.
Nice place to visit, I only marked it down due to the punitive parking arrangements as the carpark is run by Parking Eye. Limited accessible parking spaces can make life difficult for wheelchair users.
Interesting to watch the lock working as the hight difference is so much greater than the usual ones you see on a canal (tidal range on the Bristol Channel being, I belirve, the second largest in the world). A few shops including the ubiquitous Costa. A pleasant stroll along the quayside out to views of the sea across to Wales.
J. V. D.
Love the marina for a buggy friendly walk. Lots of little cafes and pubs to stop at for refreshment. Wrap up though as can be very bracing if there is any wind!
A. W.
Great place to sit and watch the boats, loads of venues to drink and eat at.
R. D.
A credit to Quay Marinas with friendly welcoming staff. Professional well maintained modern safe marina located on the Bristol Chanel. Extensive Marine services available for boaters including sales brokerage from the well known Tingdene Boat Sales. There is also marine engineers and fuel on site. Well worth a visit for waterside walks and food from the restaurants within the complex. The kids will love it too.
M. B.
Lovely place to walk, relax, eat, and drink

A lovely place for a sunday walk about.

Having a long history as a fishing port Portishead, Has over the millennia hosted a power station and a chemical works, and a large number of ship and boat repairers together with ships chandlers. Since 1992 when the docks finally closed, The harbour area, which is still evolving has been transformed into a jewell perched on the edge of the Severn Estuary. On our visit we found it easy to park the car, but I would imagine that on warm summer's day with lots of visitors around the town , it might well be a different story.
The area around the marina has a back drop of nicely designed and trendy looking apartments, all looking down and across the waterfront, with the yachts and boats completing this vista.
We were able to walk freely around the marina area, you can also cross the marina by walking across the top of the lock gates, these gates which are moved by hydraulic rams, and hold back an enormous amount of water.
There are three or four restaurant / bars around the area, plus a large Costa Coffee shop and a CO-OP supermarket . All in all you could spend a good couple of hours meandering around the marina. On a nice sunny day I can't think of a better place to while away an hour or two while having a glass or two of beer at the Hall and Woodhouse bar/ restaurant , While watching people mucking about on the water.
I have to say that I would like to have given this location, the marina a 5 star rating, but having purchased a couple of takeaway coffee's from the Costa shop, which was very nice by the way, that there was absolutely not a litter bin to be seen anywhere, where we could put our used cups. So we ended up taking them home with us, rather than litter the area. ps if you find this review helpful, please give it a 👍
C. A.
Lovely place, even in gale force winds, shops and restaurants abound, other shops and hair dresser, no Costa coffee open.
